There are numerous choices of coffee shops in Newbury . This one was convenient so we used it. Should have known better. Coming to the conclusion they're all just terrible . What really annoyed us with the arrogant and nonchalant attitude of the staff, particularly a young man who was slouched against the counter complaining he still had two hours of his shift left. All this while there were barely any clean empty tables available. No more Costas anywhere ever. Terrible value.

This is our local Costa and we don't normally use a café so close to home, but it was raining, so we took a break and a coffee here. It is just as any Costa Coffee should be, predictable but reliable. They were cleaning even the ceiling lamps when we were there, so they must take cleanliness seriously, even though some tables needed to be cleared. Happy to come back again when it rains.

Four of us booked afternoon tea at the Restaurant at Hlliers Hermitage a week before we wanted to attend. On Saturday 1st February 2025 we arrived at the restaurant to book in. Firstly there was problem using the two £40 vouchers we had. When this was finally sorted out we were asked had we booked and we said yes for 3 savoury afternoon teas ad 1 sweet afternoon tea. We were old our tea would be brought to the table. This was done but two of the party wated coffee and they said they would do this. We waited quite a while when eventually a platter arrived for 3 sweet teas and told 1 more was to come. We said we had ordered 3 savoury teas. The guy took the tray away but then brought the afternoon tea for one to the table. I noticed there was no sausage roll on the tea and was told there was none. I asked to see the manager (who was the chef) he came eventually and said there was none. We said where was the 3 savoury teas. This came but was the same plattter which we had been offered first but with some filled lettuce leaves on it. Then another waitress arrived and plonked a plate of chopped up sausage roll and two bowls of crisps on the table. We still had no plates. Then another waitress came with plates and said we had been booked in for the next day, Sunday. I said this was ot so and so looking at the tea which cost £80 whic looked awful I asked for the Manager again and whe he arrived I asked for our money back. The samwhiches were just hard boiled egg on white bread and ham and cheese. They had obviously forgotte out booking and every thing was done in a rush. We were eventually given two credit notes and we got up and left the tea on the table. The staff were not very friendly and huffed and puffed about the situation. Apart from our money back we feel we should have had more compensation. We will not be returning.

Unfortunately 1 star is the minimum rating. This location used to be reliable and good quality; since outsourcing their delivery to Uber you now have to wait over an hour and a half for delivery and their solution is to wait until the pizza arrives cold then they will send a replacement, prolonging the time further.

Staff seems to get there as the cafe opens, so there is a wait for them to get themselves sorted before they could serve, the cold drinks were all warm as the fridge had obviously been turned off overnight. Got our cutlery and sauces and sat down in the conservatory area, the cutlery was filthy so I had to wash it myself. The whole area seemed unloved and grubby. There were other customers with multiple small dogs at their table which barked aggressively as anyone walked past including small children going to the soft play. The noise just echoed around the area and made it quite unpleasant. The breakfast took around 25 minutes and was barely edible, the sausage sandwich was only just cooked, the sausage ring was extremely anemic with no colour and my partner lost his appetite and left it. My breakfast was ok, my sausage was cooked, was given a large slice of nearly toasted bread with one tiny butter. Some of the staff need to smarten up and have clean uniforms and look presentable. We won’t be coming back here.

On our way to Bournemouth we had a comfort stop at Chieveley services we manage to purchase 2 lovely decaf coffee's at Costa coffee we recieved quick friendly service I enjoy the blend of coffee served collecting the bean's is a good incentive.

Litterly the worse place to drink in this town the barmaid was rude and looked like she didn't actually want to be working was more than happy to doss about outside having a fag and thing's and generally complaining about everything when she finaly did actually do anything,there was no ice for drinks or any stacks the hole place had a very negative atmosphere felt very uncomfortable with the attitude of the staff and the other customers at times

No nos gustó el desayuno, pero sin duda disfrutamos de un café recién hecho. Fue un placer como discutimos a qué hora queríamos salir para terminar nuestro último tramo de nuestro viaje. Disfrutamos sentados y viendo el mundo pasar antes de aventurarnos en nuestro camino. Gran café cada vez.

Not happy this time as well . Ordered birthday cake for 31st March 2024 a week before. The day of collection they said , they were unable to deliver as the cake was damaged . Trying to convince us , to take another cake , At the end I got the refund. I am sure they didn’t even realised how much it upset a customer. I understand problem happens but the way you solve it that makes the difference. If the attitude is like , what’s the difference to take any other cake but not you have chosen . Careless and unprofessional.

I’m not allergic to nuts. Husband allergic to nuts Child, potential allergy. We ordered an ice cream each and two of those were the chocolate brownie ice cream - this was ordered based on no advertisement of nuts being present. My son ate his and thankfully no reaction but my husband who has a nut allergy had a sudden swelling of his lips and throat and quickly went up to the counter to ask if said ice cream contained nuts. The Asian man at the counter looked at a rolled up piece of paper in a plastic film and threw it across to us without saying anything and we looked ourselves and peanuts are in fact in the chocolate brownie ice cream. My husband then told them of his allergy and said this needs to be advertised, no apology from them. In fact, they actually didn’t respond and we left. A simple lolly stick in the gelato with the allergen written would suffice. God forbid someone buys their ice cream and is highly allergic. Needless to say, they have been reported to public protection.
