The best restaurants in West Berkshire South East

Underwhelming to say the least … we have attended for Mother’s Day today… we did get a complimentary glass of fizz for the two of us who are mothers. We arrived early and sat for a drink at a table in the lounge area with was covered in salt from the prior guests who were sat there I assume…. No one thought to clean it before or during the time they brought our drinks to us. We were seated on time. Family of five seated at a table for four and expected to squeeze in without being asked if it was ok to squeeze in. Youngest is 10 We ordered the food after a while, some set menu some normal menu and a kids menu. We waited about 20 mins for our starters and they were nice, we didn’t all have one. They were eaten in about 10 mins. We then waited a further 30 mins for our mains. Bearing in mind we didn’t all have a starter that means some of our table were an hour into the sitting before eating anything. During this time, not one person asked if we were ok or how the starter was, did we need anything else or anything at all really. The mains came, at this time I had to ask for more drinks, as no one came to offer them. The mains were fine, everyone enjoyed their food… our plates were taken without the offer of any desert menu. We waited for some time for this to be offered.. in the end we had to ask (twice) after about 20 minutes. We got our puddings really quickly, they were also fine. Nothing special. We had those, no tea or coffee offered, we then asked for the bill. The bill came, it was incorrect.. as we had ordered things from the set menu but they had been charged individually.. so the bill was returned. It came back corrected and we paid and left. For the prices asked and the lovely venue it’s such a shame the service and attention to detail is so mediocre/non existent. This is our second time here. The first was also disappointing with an incredibly soggy pizza and lacklustre service which is why it’s taken me years to get my other half back here. I used to go to the minehead Coppa a lot, it was MUCH better and I had hopes this one would live up to the standard. We won’t be back again.

Josh was an absolute delight to be welcomed and served by this morning for breakfast. You don't usually get much of a smile from any workers here but this guy made our breakfast a very warm experience. 10/10 for customer service to this guy. Would have given 5/5 but unfortunately I always get shell in my eggs here, please check when cracking the eggs.

Ordered a veggie pizza. Nice selection. A lot of veg. Very cheesy. Garlic sauce works super well! Was offered extra. Suggest to get extra if you're a saucy freak. Served by owner, respectful and good manners.

First off we ordered drinks. the teapot was dirty and looked to have bean juice all over it. the food took ages and when it came there was a hair in the egg. Food was horrible and inedible. I then visited the toilet and was met with 2 that lights didn't come on, one didn't have a toilet seat and the one I ended up in was disgusting with a broken toilet roll holder making it really difficult to get any off. Such a shame as looked such a nice place but really didn't hold up to the expectations. Don't waste your money visiting here.

Pedí comida grande de cola de buey. Llegó comida. No había arroz con guisantes y las verduras al vapor estaban secas e insípidas. Llamé para quejarme y la señora me dijo que el arroz y los guisantes fueron entregados. Le pedí que confirmara la dirección y me dio una dirección diferente. Cuando le avisé de que no citaba mi dirección donde le entregaron quería discutir conmigo. Colgué y decidí no volver a hacerlo. Realmente lástima ya que la cola de buey era perfecta. ¡Sólo una mala actitud!

The meal for I was definatley not worth£16. Could not find chicken in sweet and sour plus very chewy . Not much egg in egg fried rice. Very disappointed

Welcoming staff, friendly faces, polite floor team. Food very enjoyable and quick service. New chefs have made a difference.

We made a last-minute decision to eat at the pub. The food was OK, nothing mind-blowing but good value for the money. But what I must call out is how exceptional customer service we received. Scott and Elle were incredibly kind, friendly, and professional throughout our visit. They truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. Based on that, we will be back. Highly recommended!

Late night kebab action. On entry the friendly crew was busy cleaning, a good sign! Chicken kebab was spot-on, loads of well-seasoned chicken, good sauces and fresh veg. Totally hit the spot. Enjoyed it very much

Had 2 pie and chips, 1 large chips, got home and the chips where warm and dry, pies where like you got them out the fridge, Cold. Waste of £18.10

Many years ago, The Dundas went through a bit of a dip, that lasted some time. For that reason, I’ve never really considered it as somewhere good to eat with friends and family. Last summer (2024) a friend invited me to join him for a pint there, which I did, and it was immediately apparent that the place has improved, considerably. I’ve been back twice with family to eat there, including today, and it really is pretty good indeed. The food was excellent, a good atmosphere, helpful staff, and that garden really looks inviting for when this weather improves. If anyone out there still considers the Dundas (like I did for a long time), as a place to avoid, I think it might be time to give it another chance.
