Spotted this pub and restaurant as we were travelling back up north. Lovely setting, easy to get on and off the motorway. Food portions very generous and wonderful. Highly recommend the belly pork salad that I had. Service excellent, staff friendly and professional.

had a table for six people booked for 7pm. six meals booked and paid for by 7.30pm was told it would be and hour wait by 8.30pm no food no body came and said anything 9pm told be a few minutes. got a full meal refund but we do not get out as a family much just spoiled the night

Just popped in here for a quick lunch. I was welcomed by Josh and Karen, and both were extremely friendly. I chose the 3 for £11.75 starters. My choices were Spicy Chicken Nachos, Crispy Prawns and Crispy Mozzarella, and Jalapeno Sticks. Washed down with blackcurrant & water with ice. Food was served quickly. Will be back again.

Absolutely appalling tonight. Waited hour and half. Still no meal. When we asked they said soon. 15 mins later they still didn’t have a clue. So asked for a refund with other people. Perhaps if they concentrated on the restaurant rather than the take way 4 lots came in while waiting 😡I wouldn’t have been leaving this bad review. Don’t even offer us a drink for waiting for so long.need to get to grips with the problems

The Swan is a pub restaurant and part of the Sizzling Pubs group. As such the menu changes with the seasons and always has the basics you’d hope to find, including a children’s menu. Food is freshly cooked to order and the desserts are great. They prefer you book in advance, easy to do online, but I’ve been going for years and have only been turned away once or twice when it’s been really busy. Friendly staff, a beer garden for when the weather is nice and TV’s for catching the sports. Highly recommended.

They were busy and kindly fitted us both in. We had our dog and were seated in the bar area. The waiter was super - really friendly, smiley and welcoming. Both my son and I had the chicken Greek flat bread. All was good except the chicken. I wish I’d taken a photo as I’m sure anyone would have been horrified. I’m still not convinced it was chicken. Rock hard tiny bacon looking scraps. It was horrid. I picked the scraps out and inspected, nope… never seen any meat look like that. Everything about the meal was nice, salad, flatbread and chips, cooked and presented beautifully. But please, just put obvious chicken in it. The meat went to the dog!

Had such a lovely time with the family and they had everything on the menu as we had a wide range to pick from, my personal favourite was the Greek burger, but will be trying the boss burger next time I visit

Cheap and cheerful pub. Good basic food at a great price. Family friendly, cheerful, friendly staff. Pool table. Sometimes have a longish wait for food if it's busy. Would recommend it if you want basic pub grub.

Called in last weekend. Bar was busy but we were shown to a quieter area. The young guy behind the bar was first class. Food was very reasonable and good quality and drinks were the same. Great little pub.

Lovely pub but oh dear .. when we went to order we were told most of the menu was unavailable. They didn't seem willing to swap for things they did have, it was just no. When we eventually managed to order what they had it took an agonising hour and a half. Food was below par, scampi overcooked, portions really small and luke warm. One order completely wrong but too fed up to change it ( didn't want to wait any longer ) The staff seemed under pressure and didn't hide how miserable they were. Won't be back any time soon.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and have a quick drink and the food was lovely and really cheap to, didn’t wait that long at all and the staff were very nice, will be visiting again but next time will bring the family with me

Me and my partner could see it was very busy as there was a few large groups in and the bar staff did explain there would be a little bit of a wait but we was happy to wait, when the food arrived it looked amazing and I could under why they get really busy in there as the food was really good, also was able to have a few cocktails as well as they have them on offer, also with some of the shots being 4 for £6.50 which is really cheap, will be coming down again as we had such a lovely experience 10/10

A friend of mine recommended here for a quick bite to eat while I’m on my lunch break from work and he was right, on the menu they have a wide range to choose from and at cheap prices as well, also the barman suggested I download the “sizzling pubs” app so they way each time I come in I can collect stamps to get lots of offers like free drinks, discount on meals, free birthday drink and much more, so I now know where my favourite place is to go and I recommend it to others as well

Me and my mates came down to play multiple games on the pool table as it’s only £1 a game, but we also could out about the great deals on shots and cocktails as well, which made it even better for us.

This was my 1st visit here, to meet a friend as it’s halfway for both of us! What a lovely place, but what made it even better was the staff… Above and beyond, refreshing to speak with a server (didn’t catch her name) who is so passionate about the food, drink and our overall experience. A real asset to this place and I left feeling like a new gem of a place had been found. Can rate every course I had highly! And will certainly be back. Ryan

Just on the A4 outside of Newbury town centre. Visited 31 Oct 2020. Really friendly and attentive staff members. Menu is full of choices,such a large choice. Food came out absolutely piping hot,as the staff clearly on top of ensuring the meals are not sat waiting to be collected under a heat lamp in the kitchen. Prices are really competitive with other chains. Well done The Swan at Newbury.

I came out for a meal with my family and we were more than happy with the service we received. The food was delicious, credit to the chef! It had a friendly atmosphere and the staff were so helpful and professional during this time. We felt very safe. We Definitely will be returning and I recommend you do too!

We went as a family of 5..walm welcome at the door by we'll trained staff... Who explained rule and regulations with us.. Lady even took time to help us down load app.. Which we found too technical. But with guidance managed to use.. Our drinks arrived quickly along with cutlery.. Staff were talkative and happy to help.. Our food arrived. Burgers were fine and ample amount of chips.. My mother who bday it was had fish and chips said the fish was the best she had in a very long time.. 1st but not the last visit we as a family will be making.. Lovely pub. Well kept clean and safe.. Nice helpful staff..

When my food was delivered the portion was for a child not a grown man. The food was cold. smashed potato was hard and dry. Gravy wasn't gravy but warm water. We were told we had to wear our masks when not seated but staff didn't wear theirs. overall this was the worst experience I have ever had. The best part of the evening was when I walked out the door.

Service was appalling, staff were rude. Waited over 45mins for someone to take our dessert order. Tutted when we were paying by cash. Portions were tiny. Will not be returning Avoid!!!

Went for our first family meal out in ages and our first time visiting The Swan in a very long time.Our meals were very good and portions were very generous! the staff were very attentive and helpful.I did notice that the pub and facilities were much cleaner and tidier since we last visited and the pub is under new management and that clearly shows.There was plenty of hand gel and systems in place (ie 1 person at bar) so I felt quite confident that they were doing their best in the current climate.Will Definitely be returning.

We booked a table for 7 on Saturday night met by a member of staff who was friendly and informed us over there procedures for covid. We ordered through the app table service which worked very well and we ordered starter sharer and drinks and mains we ordered pie and mash and burger all came promtly and food was excellent and tasty and staff were friendly and the manager was a breath of fresh air and what was needed and hope the place is a success with the new manager.

Visited yesterday with a friend and the dog. The staff were welcoming, and very attentive, drinks and food arrived promptly. Unfortunately my main was burnt (only the way a microwave can do) I mentioned it to the waitress as we left as nobody checked that the food was ok, and she said she would tell the chef. I would go for drinks and the friendly team again, but to be honest, the food wasn't worth the price.

Hi had a lovely meal in here on the 23rd jan 2020 with my wife food was incredible drink were good as well atmosphere was good but what made it a incredible place to come was the waitress Megan she was so helpful and could not do enough to help they should clone her here would be amazing will go again for sure and will recommend to others well done MEGAN your a star

Went yesterday for lunch after having issues previously we stopped visiting new manager came in and things went up so started to come back in for our lunch breaks. This visit was lacking any management or standards. Food was lovely, staff had no can do attitude. Server with blonde hair was polite, person who bought our food with brown hair and white hoodie jumper on just dropped the food on the table with no acknowledgement to us full stop, no one checked on us on our visit and tables were not cleared once we finished food, still was not cleared when we left. Won't be back any time soon.

My friends and i enjoyed our visit to the swan, all our needs attended to, the young lady Victoria was very polite and attentive. The food was excellent and drinks very good value for money! The food service quick and efficient and again good value for money. The lads enjoyed the sky sports and were thrilled to hear about the new opening times for both restaurant and kitchen! All in all a great visit will definitely be returning!!

Iv'e been here lots of times over the past few years some good some bad meals. Over the last couple of months it has changed the food is very good plus you don't have to wait a long time. The table service it very good. Meg looked after us last time she was very polite.would recommend the swan.

We booked a table and arrived in good time. The bar staff were welcoming. The 2 vegans in the party had gone online to check food labelling but the menus in the restaurant had different information on 1 item of interest. We were shown a list of all the allergens for each menu item which was really helpful. Once our food was ordered we didn't have to wait very long until the it arrived - well, some of it. Items were missing from the mixed grills, the steak and the katsu curry. The added items for the curries, which were ordered for the vegans,arrived on a plate with the steak so couldn't be eaten and 1 meal failed to arrive until 25 minutes later and was also incomplete. When we mentioned all this to the bar staff we were brushed aside with a comment that this was the kitchen's fault. It turns out that there was just 1 chef in the kitchen that evening. We didn't stay for desserts.We were given 10% off the total bill and a somewhat late apology.All in all the food quality was borderline - chewy steaks, cold chips. We won't go back.

Food came out nice hot and presentable. Children enjoyed their meal with sharing an adult macaroni and chips, whist i had 5 different starters at very reasonable price of just £15 for all 3 was well worth the money. Thank you to the team at the swan tonight x

I see this place has a a lot of bad reviews but we were driving past and decided to give it a go.

We had visited the Swan previously on a weekday and found it satisfactory but on this occasion we were looking for somewhere to go to on a Sunday. As the car park did not look too busy, we decided to give the Swan a go and found a table for four with no trouble. Though we were forewarned when ordering there could be a delay we

This a very strange restauarant as there isn't really a proper dining room - just a series of very small rooms with tables. My main course was for Scampi with chips and when it eventally arrives - it was on a wooden plater that had seen better days in the past - with a small bowl on top that contain what I had ordered. There was considerably more chips than Scampi which one had a very thick crust over each surface. It tool ages to order a pudding as there was no way attracting the waitress confined as we were to this very small room. Eventually I had the Sticky Toffee Puding with ice cream - but really a small portion for the price being charged. I really was at all impressed by the food that other of my companions were eating. No an expereince that I care to repeat at any time in the future!

Food took over an hour after ordering and when it did arrive, there was blue tack on my sons plate! Only 1 sausage arrived in the kids all day breakfast instead of 2 and no toast! The veggie burger was supposed to have salsa which it didn’t and when chased, we got chopped onions with tomato chunks arrive! Accused that we were notified food would be over an hour which was not true.

First time we went with our well behaved dog they let us sit just inside the door due to the questionable people in the garden. The lady couldn’t do enough for us and brought a bowl of water for our dog. Food was fine and we thought it a nice place to eat. However, the second time we went it was the complete opposite. We weren’t allowed in with our dog, half the food on the menu was not available and what we did order was sparse and some of the meals were tasteless and incomplete. Plus lots of bad language overheard in the garden. Don’t think we will be going back.

Very nice pub with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They serve food until 8pm on a Sunday, but not many snack items.

My partner and I have just moved to Newbury and we live a stones throw away from the Swan so decided to try it! The food was really nice and affordable and the staff were super nice and friendly. We were really impressed and therefore, decided to go back for lunch. However, when we went for Saturday lunch there was a notice that no food was being served due to an oven fault. We decided to try again and for lunch on Monday at 12:30 pm. They had a reduced menu on (see picture) with very limited options. I had a grilled chicken burger and it was so dry that I hardly ate any. We are quite disappointed as we had such a great first-time experience.

After long drive we notice pub called ‘The Swan’ we thought ‘posh’ as we was tired we wanted to sit down and some coffee and beer, maybe some food, we parked, coming in at Monday at 21.30 when it is stand open till 23, the girl, who actually was nice, had a cigarette in her mouth, and then we should leave, but I just asked.. can we have just some coffee and beer? She said yes, so I order a beer and coffee and she said coffee machine is off now... ok.... Monday. Beer and cola, after two sips of beer I thought I will be sick, I looked on the table, menu, quite big, reduced to 6 items???? Is it a joke??

A wonderful old Inn with a good menu, great food, and super staff. Lovely surroundings with gardens looking nice and a brook running through the middle.

Good pub grub with friendly service. Good portion sizes. A potty they did not have a pie we wanted but they were more than happy to mix and match some other dishes as an alternative.

Popped in today for a quick spot of lunch, had the sweet chilli beef. The food was amazingly good, things have definitely changed here for the better. Will definitely be coming again soon

Arrived, without booking, at 4pm on a sunny Saturday and there were plenty of tables inside. A bottle of tap water was brought and we ordered the brie and beetroot tart with sweet potato chips and dressed leaves. The food arrived in good time and though the generous portions meant we couldn't manage desserts, the Americano coffee was delicious.

Visited yesterday (Sunday) as a family of 6 (4 kids) on the way back from a 3 hour drive yesterday - we were all VERY hungry.

We visited tonight for an evening meal, we were greeted politely and asked if we had a preference on where we would like to sit.

Visited today for an evening meal only to be told food stopped being served at 6.0pm it was only 6.10pm. The bar was filthy tables hadn't Been cleared the floor was messy. This is the 3rd time we've visited and food is either not available or there is a restricted menu ie no meat. One young lady was trying to serve at the bar as queues got longer. The place is a shambles. Shame as is our local but will not be returning. Short of staff and certainly no help from landlady who is nowhere to be seen.

I was at 11am to take my breakfast and the kitchen was closed, the coffee was rubbish and bad service. In the garden had lot of garbages. I'll never go back there!

Came here today on a Saturday for lunch, phoned up to make sure they would still be serving food at 3pm which they confirmed. Me and a friend arrived here for lunch for 3. We went to order food and drinks to be told at the bar “ kitchens closed, we won’t be taking any food orders untill after 4ish!?” So couldn’t even give me a time.. just 4ish!? We ended up going somewhere else! Why tell me over the phone you serve food all day but to then close the kitchen as and when you please... do you not need the custom? This has happened before and also to a friend of mine at 5pm!? Either close the kitchen at a set time or keep it open!? Will not be returning as it’s too much of a gamble as to if we will get food or not!

I've driven passed this place several times so when I had a day off work, for a diy day I thought I'd stop in after shopping at B&Q.; It was a nice place, clean & tidy. I decided to sit in as it was a bit too cold for outdoors. The bar area was quiet as was the seated eating area. I chose my meal, BBQ chicken & bacon baguette served with chips plus a Diet Coke from the lunch menu. I ordered from the bar & was told to find a seat, grab myself some cutlery from round the corner & she'd bring everything over. About half an hour later she appeared with food. She didn't come back with my drink so I had to go back to the bar & ask for it. The food was nice, well cooked & tasty. I'd recommend the menu choice. I also visited the ladies which were nice & clean. All in all it was a nice lunch, nothing special, but I'd definitely go back. Little tip, check the website as they often have discounts.

We ordered three mains while after waiting 1 hour only 2 dishes came so we had to reorder another dish, my peas where a dark gray colour, chips where raw and haloumi was oily and cold. The portion sizes where very small! This place looked like it had good food but these dishes you could buy from pound land. I dident complain as I never saw many staff but I would not be coming here again I’m sorry xx

We ordered our burgers, and the bar staff asked which fries we'd like, normal or sweet potato. We chose set potato thinking we'd just missed that they're was a choice on the menu. Turns out they up sold us a the sweet potato fries were more money. Sneaky!

I visited the swan inn with my family and I had steak mrs had mix grill and kids had nuggets food was cooked perfectly and staff were very attentive I was served by Jordan who was very friendly

So, as myself and my friend were shopping in the local area we decided to visit The Swan for the first time. I downloaded the company’s app so also had some offers which made our visit even more cost saving. We were served by two friendly servers (the guy was named Jordan, I didn’t get the lady’s name) but they forgot to wipe the table as I requested but didn’t spoil our visit too much. We both had burgers (chicken/beef) which were delicious and obviously we enjoyed our drinks. Overall we had a great visit, just next time to have staff pay more attention to customers requests.

I think every time, and I am thinking hard, we've been here it's been out of convenience rather than an actual real want to go since it's been 'done up', and every time, without fail, there is something not on the menu for at least one of us. In my case two things today. In other examples, the chefs not turned up, the kitchen is not working properly, the food is stuck on the M4, the kitchen is flooded..... the list goes on for reasons not to have either what you want or in some cases nothing at all. In many cases, if they have more than 6 people ordering then your wait goes up significantly. On a plus I think they are trying to improve the food quality but appear to be cutting down on size as a result, my £9 meal arrived on something slightly larger than a side plate and was missing some of the ingredients shown on the advertising picture. We will try again in about 6 months as we usually do to see if it's worth going back to, but for now, until they learn how to manage it properly, don't bother.

3 hours for a 2 course meal.... absolute joke! Whilst waiting for a ridiculous amount of time between courses, we nearly froze to death.

We used the swan as a place to stay with our baby for a wedding. The accommodation was comfy and quiet as set away from the pub. We had a nice rest there and a solid if unspecatcular breakfast.

I would not have even given them a star. We visited The Swan - Newbury and had an absolutely vile and unacceptable experience. We ( a family of 6 ) sat down in the restaurant Area and decided what we would like to order. On approaching the bar to order our food we were told that it was a 45 min wait, which we accepted and continued with our order. When ordering we asked for the kids food to be brought out at the same time as our starter and their pudding to come out with our mains. We sat back down and after 30 mins the waiter came over and said that she was sorry but didn’t have half of the starters we had ordered. Not a great start but never mind, so we chose a different starter. Another 40 mins after that we finally received our starter (1hr 10 mins) after being told it’s a 45 min wait. The starters were ok and so we are them, we then waited another 40 mins before approaching who we now know to be as the chef and asked why there was a hold up with our mains. His exact response after me telling him that we had waited almost 2hrs was to look at his watch as if I was lying and then say “well you’ll have to wait unless you prefer a raw steak to come out” rather than being empathetic to our situation. He hen said it would be just a few minutes, so we waited 15 mins before approaching the bar staff to ask why our food was not brought out and why nobody had informed us. He was actually really apologetic (David I think his name was) and told us that it’s on the pass right now so just a minute or two. Another 10 mins after being told it was on the pass our terminally ill, 61 year old mother went to speak with the chef. As anpartially deaf lady she speaks slightly louder than the average human and therefore he thought she was shouting in which he told her to stop shouting at her which she wasn’t. She then asked where our mains were and why we had been waiting so long in which he denied ever speaking to me although everyone around heard him. A shout she was speaking to him the mains were brought out however the kids pudding was nowhere in sight. She asked him where their pudding was in which he replied “I don’t have a ticket” “tell me what you ordered” so she stated that the bar staff ran it through the till so you must have a record. After waiting 2 hrs we had forgot what the children asked for in which I told him that he must have a ticket in the kitchen which he responded “I’m not in the kitchen” so I told him to go and have a look rather than continue his argumentative attitude and behaviour. To which he became extremely aggressive and threatening, started pounding through the kitchen door shouting, smashed something on the other side and then started shouting at his colleagues. He then pounded back through the doors shouting to his colleagues “watch what happens, see what happens if they complain”. As he had gone into the kirch n we returned to the table, still horrified by what we had just witnessed and as we sat down it was clear to see that most of the order had been sat under a heater for quite some time and had dried out and become bland & the scampi was burnt. By this point my 9yr old daughter and her 9yr old cousin were so scared they wanted to leave, and we felt that actually the best option was to remove ourselves from an environment that had become extremely hostile and threatening to us. We didn’t want to go to the bar to ask for a refund as we were worried hat he would come back and become violent! So we left! £70 our of pocket between us and left with a fear of ever visiting a sizzler. I would like to know what is going to be done firstly to compensate us not only for the food that we had ordered and were unable to eat but for the emotional damage that had been caused to my child, my terminally ill mother who had enough to deal with and to us! I am appalled that you would hire such a horrific human to work in a customer based environment and whether this is common practice for your staff! If I do not hear back within 24-48hrs I will be taking this much further as I am not allowing my child or my ill mother to feel that way!

Burnt dry tasteless lasagne, soggy bread, dry and congealed fried egg, nice Pinot though, seriously give the food a wide berth 🤨

For the last three years we have chosen the Swan pub to celebrate Christmas Day.. Our meal on on this day is superb. So for Christmas 2018 guess where my wife and I are heading.

Traditional pub food, good vege options. All the beers, ales and lagers you'd expect from a local with your standard top shelf options and a small selection of wines.

What kind of chef serves an egg like this come out of the kitchen, never mind serve to a customer? When my wife complained & asked for a fresh one, was told she had the last egg in the kitchen? Unbelievable, won’t be visiting again😡😡

Visited this pub many times in the past and always had issues including undercooked chicken.

Arrived at lunchtime on a Friday afternoon, was told 45 min wait for food (understood at first). however having looked around the place there were not many customers so not sure what the wait was for...

Food was just edible, chips were few and tasted of oil whe they were supposed to be seasoned . Staff were not interested in serving until prompted and £2.60 for half a glass of apple juice!! (the rest was ice)

This would be on e cheap eats kind of side. There is a lot t on the menu and. Can be confusing. I have not seen anywhere do a kids menu that's under 5s and over 5's.

We are just home from what I can only describe as the most disgusting breakfast I have ever had the displeasure of looking at....I can't say eating as I didn't eat it.

Visited with son and future daughter in law for late Mother's Day meal, had a lovely meal great value. Tennessee steak was delicious. Very busy for a Tuesday.

Came here for dinner tonight. We both thoroughly enjoyed it! Recommend the Backyard BBQ Burger and the Chicken Tikka Masala. The sundaes are also amazing!! We had the mint aero sundae and the Cadbury lovers sundae 😊

Ordered a Sunday roast and what was served I wouldn't have given to my worst enemy. reheated dry disgusting. Complained to the person who served us, too the food away and never came back.

We went to the swan for breakfast and we were so ill after it as the Greece was so bad. We will not be going there again for breakfast. We have had evening meals in there which were good.

The service was awful! Service WITHOUT A SMILE!! Mid week and most drinks not available along with no ice. Fish all sold out ( apparently within 35 minutes previously)and left with dirty plates for over an hour. No service outside 'in case the server slipped' as they'd had a heavy downpour earlier in the day! ( never mind the customers!!) That was ok but while we were waiting for our food out trotted the server, to another customer with their food, outside!!! Steer clear if you want a stress free quality meal!

Went to the Swam for a quick lunch. The food is average, portion sizes a bit on the small side and the speed of service was a bit on the slow side, considering we sat down around midday when they were not busy.

Mi primer bocadillo de pimientos a la parrilla con haloumi. Absolutamente con patatas fritas de camote y un capuchino muy bueno todo por menos de 6 libras. Un servicio excelente y amable.

Been here before and food was great but tonight the gammon is chewy and over cooked so are the peas I'm not allowed to complain as my husband doesn't like to complain but the chips were nice my advice get new chef one who can cook!!!

Went in for lunch with the in-laws have not been here for awhile good selection on the menu. Did not have to wait long for the food the food was hot. The only negative thing really about the place it needs a good clean and outside needs a lot of work.

How you could call the Nacho a sharing plate I don't know. Not even the equivalent of half a packet of Nachos with three "dollops" of Guacamole, Salsa and Sour Cream. For cheese it looked like something you squirt out of a bottle and it had not been under a grill. For £5.99 not worth it.

Ordered a lovely lunch with my family to end our holiday today, the staff were attentive, fast and friendly, being exceptionally considerate that I had 2 children with me, by offering to 'rush' through the kids meals so that they didn't have to wait.This pub is also DOG friendly having water bowls outside near the tables/benches, which I inquired of before arriving and made use of with our pup.The meal was amazing, very generous portions and very good quality - honestly I was amazed that they didn't charge more!Even though they were busy for a midweek lunchtime , they said there was a wait of 25mins for food, our adult meals was delivered to our table very quickly (no way near 25mins)Very impressive service and very welcoming - will certainly be returning!

had read reviews that put down this sizzler pub, but we found staff friendly, food good and reasonable price and eating area clean, what more do you expect?

It's cheap and cheerful I suppose is the best description, presentation is average and the atmosphere is the same. It's close to home so is convenient which is a personal plus point but think I'd choose further afield to get better quality.
