Always a lovely pub especially with a bit of nice weather a you can sit and watch the world go by next to the canal lock. Beer variety is good and the conditioning is excellent. Food is meant to be good but I've not eaten there for a while. Writing this review makes me want to head there now! Beer anyone?

A party of 20 of us cyclists went here on Sunday 1st September. We had pre ordered our food as there was a big party . We couldn’t say an exact time as needed to allow for punctures etc. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. It was all so well organised. The food was great and considering the large party we all got exactly what we ordered, I would definitely recommend this place in a beautiful setting

Food very average with very little choice. The drinks were well overpriced. The food potions were small . Dessert menu had two options and ice cream. It was like London prices but 60 miles away. The bunked seating is so crammed the food had to be handled down and to get out everyone has to move it’s crazy.

After a long day on our feet and with the sun coming out we decided The Lock Stock & Barrel would be a lovely spot for a couple of drinks. We managed to get a good spot next to the canal and took a seat with our (over priced) IPAs. Unfortunately the glasses we were served our drinks in were very dirty, to the point where they look like they hadn't been washed at all - the rim had some form of sticky residue around it, both inside and out. I went to the bar and politely asked the barmaid (possibly the bar manager) if it would be ok to swap them. She reacted very rudely to this enquiry and made it quite uncomfortable. She went though 6 more glasses before she found 2 clean glasses. She rudely passed the new drinks to me and made me feel I was in the wrong for this situation. About 15 minutes later she was outside looking our way giving us bad looks, again as if we were in the wrong for raising this issue and making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. It's always been a lovely spot but I'm not sure this employee is a good fit for the establishment.

Sadly a poor experience, we knew it would be a wait for food, but the order was wrong when lunch arrived, one meal completely lost. Staff brought no cutlery and tried to take plates before we had finished, then got grumpy when we asked them not to clear. Could be a fabulous place but over priced and poorly run. Don't have the mushroom/veggie sandwich, was very minimal filling

Came here on a friday afternoon, lovely welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and was served either straight away or with only a few minutes wait. Had the fish and chips, theyve defonatly done the national.dish proud. Fish was moist and flakey. Batter had great flavour and wasnt greasy in the slightest. Tables were being cleared regularly so very clean place. Beer slightly ecpensive of which im assuming is due to the location. However I tried the IPA on draft and was great quality. 100% will be returning.

Visited the town for a short while whilst in the area and picked this pub/restaurant due to its idyllic location by the river. Limited staff with only one person serving both drink and food orders. Ordered a Lincolnshire Poacher and Branston Pickle on Ciabatta (no other choice of bread). We were expecting a nice chunk of Lincolnshire cheese but the ciabatta contained a ration each of finely grated cheese which due to its portion size, it could have been any cheese as no real flavour. Chips were standard chunky chips. Disappointed to say the least for a £9.50 meal at lunch.

Could be so much better, especially given its nice canal side setting with some outside seating. Adult meals fine, barely any kids meals to choose from, and they're not very good & portion size tiny. Barely any desserts on offer. So if you have children and/or like pudding, don't go here.

Fullers pubs traditionally had great food available. Proper pub food. Sadly the LSB has ordinary food. Too much cheap fried food, too many cheap ingredients. Flat breads made of cardboard. I'd rather pay more money for better quality, decent food doesn't have to cost a fortune. Amazing cheese though, they got their supplier for that spot on! On a happy note, lovely well kept Fullers beers. Sitting by the Kennet and Avon enjoying a pint in the sun is what it's all about. Lovely people working here that look after their guests as well as they look after their beers.

A very lovely location with great outdoor seating by the water. We ordered 2 drinks and 1 bowl of chips. We waited for 1 bowl of chips for an hour, I know it was busy but it’s a bit slow considering our drinks were finished a long time before they arrived. The staff are very lovely and polite so it is not their fault whatsoever, maybe the kitchen are a bit slow or disorganised? Especially when it’s only 1 bowl of (frozen) chips…..it definitely ruins the dining experience which is such a shame and really lets the place down. I could see other people were also getting annoyed at having to wait so long for their meals so it wasn’t just us, it seemed to be everyone else too.

We were here on a Saturday for a family lunchtime gathering. We had to pre-order our food, which we were happy to do. However, this didn't seem to help as our meal delivery was sporadic and slow. It took so long that the people whose meals had been delivered couldn't wait for the other meals to arrive as theirs was going cold. Some people had finished eating by the time the last meals arrived. Some of the meals were very small portion wise, although the food was nice. Staff were inattentive and very slow. Twice they took unfinished drinks away, even 1/3 full bottle of wine. I got a gin and tonic without gin delivered and when I spoke to the staff member, they were not even surprised. They simply shrugged and added the gin.

We have visited the Lock Stock a few times, it is a lovely pub, very cosy and with friendly staff. However something was a little wrong this time - the menu was a lot more limited than previous visits, hardly any starters, no Sunday lunch, with many items on the menu not available (we have visited at the same weekend other years, so I can't see why the lantern parade would have impacted this year more than others). the food we had was lovely however. The biggest disappointment was when we went to order dessert - a few minutes later, after I had paid for our order, someone came over to let us know that the kitchen closed at 5pm! How did none of the bar staff know this, why were there menus still on the table, and how was it possible to book a table for food if you weren't actually serving (I have since spotted that the food service time is on their website, which makes it even stranger that the staff weren't aware of this when they took my order). It was very fortunate that we turned up earlier than our booked time, otherwise we might not have been able to get anything at all. We were also left sitting in near darkness in the conservatory area, the only lights being a string of fairy lights - not sure why we were allocated that table to dine when there were others available. It was lovely when we arrived and we foolishly expected some more lights would come on once it got dark. With so many good pubs in the Newbury area, I have to admit that these little issues combined would make think twice about picking this one next time, as something seems to have declined in the service.

Very lively pub down a side street off the main street. Friendly greeting and quickly given a seat. Unfortunately the table was in a poor position, but luckily a table became free and we moved. Menu was good, although they had run out of a couple of the items and it was only 7.30 p.m. Staff (barman) was very friendly and th service was quick. Food quality was very good. It is basically a very busy pub and there were several parties and couples just having drinks. I think, in the summer, it would be a great place to go as it is next to the river and it would be nice to sit outside. Would return if we returned to the area.

An English village pub in a pretty village, serving fresh tasty food, where you can sit outside on a warm summer's evening or enjoy the comfort of the bar and restaurant. Hubby ordered skate, which came with a decent amount of potatoes and veg, I ordered the Rendang beef curry, the meat was tender and the flavour fabulous. Compared with other pubs in the area the food is reasonably priced. We sat at the window table overlooking the front of the pub, where there was an array of interesting books to ponder over while waiting for our food. A nice touch. BBQ food was on offer outside the pub, which was popular and looked good. We would happily go there again.
