Absolutely a family favorite. Kayleigh and Mariamo were excellent!

We had a booking for my birthday . I couldn't thank Aaron enough for giving us such a nice private room . The food was delicious and Emily and Jack were ace at service . Thank you ☺️

Nice pub, wasn’t impressed with the ‘American’ food honestly (chilli loaded fries, mac and cheese with brisket) and a couple of our party had bad stomachs the day after

Love this place for the Sunday roasts, VERY good. Also has live music and great atmosphere. Mariano is a great bar manager always providing a warm welcome.

Went for a meal the menu looked good and the pictures online looked ok. However when the food arrived it was disappointing. We ordered a platter for 1 and burger. The platter was 90% deep fried. The only things not were the Ribs and the pulled pork. Could not taste or see anything sign of the meats being smoked. The burger was basically Mince in the shape of a burger no seasoning or flavour. In today’s economy £55 for 2 people is a lot and to be served what we had is extremely disappointing

We came here for a Sunday lunch & found The Newbury a welcoming, friendly pub. Staff were great, especially Jess, food was spot on so big thanks to Chris & the team in the kitchen. Next time we are down in Newbury visiting family would not hesitate to come here again.

Popped in for a bite to eat with the kids, Jack Mariano was the guy behind the bar. Excellent service, can’t fault it. If you need a bite to eat with kids - definitely recommend.

Jack Mariano is incredible. He made us feel welcome and treated our children as if they were his own. Could not recommend any more!

Went to a live band at the terrace at the Newbury. First time back in Newbury in ages and was so impressed. Great venue with good space and great atmosphere. Jack and Hal were the upstairs bar staff and were fantastic, real bar staff that were able to keep up with the rushes that comes with live music but also really friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend as a live music venue. Also drinks are very reasonably priced, especially for a venue.

In the search for a roast dinner during our stay in Newbury we came across the reviews for this place and made a last minute booking. What a good decision we made. The roast menu alone had us salivating, and the meals themselves did not disappoint! Lovely tender meat, great roasties and yourkshire puds, and the veg skillet was great. Definitely up there with one of the best roasts I've had away from home. Friendly staff and a lovely interior and atmosphere. If I was local I would definitely be coming back.

Been visiting the place for about 8 years, always enjoy the food, service, wine, and beer.

My first time in here. Went with friends for a Sunday lunch. The pub was tastefully decorated, comfortable seating areas, tables nicely spread apart. The staff were polite and helpful. The roast beef was tender and the selection of vegetables was good. A tasty meal. I didn't have dessert but the Bourbon and cherry cheesecake looked delicious, a huge portion with plenty of cherries on the side.

The new menu is so good! I mean we only had hotdogs this time but they were smashing! My favourite was the Korean sausage one, it has a bit of a kick. We will definitely come back to try steaks! The place has an amazing vibe! Everyone is warm and welcoming. We had a great time!

I’m a big fan of BBQ and Smokehouse food, so came here for dinner to sample the “smokehouse” menu, but unfortunately the food was tasteless and overcooked. Couldn’t taste the BBQ sauce, ribs were dry and bad quality, pulled pork lacked flavour, wings were the same. Wouldn’t recommend or go back unfortunately.

Used to really like this place however im "Definitely" not coming back here they drenched the hot dog with ketchup and mustard and then took almost 30 minutes to re cook the order.needless to say we didn't get to eat dinner together..then when speaking to manager he was clueless absolutely ridiculous

just had our sixth form prom on their roof terrace and it was amazing!! firstly organising the whole thing was a pleasant experience with all the staff being kind and helping cater to all our needs and being patient the venue itself was sooo beautiful especially in the evening when the fairy lights are turned on, very spacious and fit everything we wanted in we had a pizza buffet and it was DELICIOUS eveyone talked about how amazing the food was all the staff were so kind and fun the whole night, and created a lovley atmosphere i would 1000% recommend this place to anyone looking for a venue

Visited 26/6 at lunchtime. Food was delicious. Burgers went down very well and half chicken was absolutely lovely, would definitely order it again. Service was great, young chap (whose name I didn't catch sadly) was welcoming and helpful with the menu, also remembered all his dietary/allergen checks and was very attentive to whether or not we needed anything else throughout our meal. Only feedback my partner had was the music was a bit repetitive but I couldn't hear any music, so we just said 4* for atmosphere but in all honesty we'd still come back because it was fab overall.

Stopped by for lunch with my partner, the gentleman behind the bar and serving food was extremely polite and friendly. The food was incredible, definitely the best brisket I've had in long time and my partner enjoyed her steak. I thought the portions were very generous as well, we were both stuffed and more than content. It was very quiet while we were here but the place still had a nice ambience about it.

Average Sunday lunch. Booking was for 4 but they said we'd only booked for 2. Sat on high table by open door , then moved to a proper table. No chicken nor venison at 2.15pm. Beef tough, no crackling with the pork. Veg good. No crumble left

Steak knives to eat pizza was a warming for the thick, doughy heavy pizza which was to follow.

If you want a reminder of what customer service is, go to The Newbury. Went there last night and it was amazing, food was great and everyone was very friendly. Highly Recommend

Sunday lunch was quite good generous portions. Table was unstable. Service was slow. Many people behind the bar chatting instead to be around to help whenever you need

Experienced a friends lovely 50th birthday here, it was very busy and noisy at the bar, however the birthday room much better (except the noise we made 😁). The room itself was decorated wonderfully and I took pictures for inspiration at home. Staff were great, but needed reminding a couple of times for requests. However they were keen none the less. Most of the food was tasty and cooked well with no complaints, however my wife's chicken was dry(over done) and quite bland compared to the other meals I tried. I can certainly recommend the venison and bread sharing starter. There was a multi storey nearby that made parking a breeze, it does close around 10.30pm to new visitors, but you can still buzz in and leave yourself after that time. I would definitely use the place again if I lived locally myself and would recommend to others.

I came here for dinner with my familyl based on a recommendation from a friend. We truly had the most lovely time. Everything from the service to the atmosphere to the food was 10/10. Issie our waitress was a delight and made our evening a special one. After not expecting too much, we left thoroughly impressed. I will be returning and recommending to friends!

Food was lovely I had the fish stew which was amazing and the service couldn’t have been criticised. Overall a wonderful experience and atmosphere definitely recommend if you fancy a nice meal in a relaxed environment.

We had the room out the back for a friends birthday meal. The service was awful, we didn’t get our food for over 2 hours and no one came in to check how we were getting on. When the food arrived it was dry, cold and not very nice. Also, a dish we had ordered never came out and someone had to eat something they never ordered. We’ve heard great things so I was excited to see what the buzz was about but I was very disappointed. We were a group of 16 and even pre ordered.

This place used to be so good!!! But today had to be the worst service I have ever had its very disappointing there isn't many places left in Newbury now to eat in. … I won't be back after today spending £300 for a small group of us you would think that it had a Michelin star, 🌟

Came in with my family for Sunday lunch and it was amazing! I had the Venison and my Dad had the Turkey. The service was attentive and everyone was so lovely. Me and my boyfriend have come a few times for dinner and it never disappoints!! Thankyou very much!

Had a lovely meal here with a large group of friends. It's a great menu with plenty of choice, I often struggle because I am gluten-free. I had the Venison Bourguignon but I could even have had many of the others including fish and chips, which is very unusual. Our party all agreed the food was excellent. The staff were friendly, charming and helpful - Briony was a stand-out! Will definitely be back.

What a fantastic evening. I couldn’t fault anything. The food was all excellent. The fish and chips was one of the best I have ever had. The bread and butter pudding wasn’t what I expected and I absolutely loved it. Even the beer somehow seemed better than I can think of elsewhere. All at competitive prices for pub grub but somehow done to perfection. The staff were all extremely attentive, friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was lovely. Thank you all for the effort that you clearly put in. I have worked in hospitality for some years and I know that it’s not easy, especially nowadays. You are all doing a fantastic job. We will be back.

Went for Sunday Lunch at the earliest time you can book and found the first problem was cold plates, so the food went cold very quickly. My wife had pork and found it tough, supposedly was cook over night, so expecting it to be very tender. I had the beef, very thin cuts, being from the country used to thick cuts of tender beef, but tasted ok, and came of roast potatoes with plenty of vegtables and the obligatory large Yorkshire pudding. Service was very good and very friendly staff.

Delicious Aubergine Katsu Curry & Merseilles Fish Stew! Highly recommend. We were too stuffed to have desert. They allowed my partner to remain behind for 1.5 hours whilst I attended a workshop. How gracious!

Have been eating and drinking here for a bunch of years now. The food is of a very reasonable standard. The service is always friendly and as efficient as they can be. Nice friendly atmosphere. The volume of people both at the bar and in the restaurant speaks for itself. Recommend to anyone to pop in for a drink or book yourself a table for eats.

Good meal but please be careful with allergies. I visited and ordered the Aubergine Katsu Curry and there was no mention of nuts on the menu or by waitor. Not even the general check for allergies when we arrived or ordered. Good meal and staff however.

Visited The Newbury last night 20/12/23 for our Christmas Party - it was a fabulous evening, wonderful service from beginning to end, the food was amazing and my colleagues who’ve never been there are converts and they loved the ambience and cannot wait to visit again. You guys did us proud and I would like to thank all the staff who organised and served us. PS - the festive music was absolutely wonderful.

SO SCARED!!! SCAM ALERT !!! After a lovely evening of dinner with friends at this pub …… a man approached our table accusing us of not paying in full. He was not part of their staff but we had no idea he wasn’t (no uniform or security tags to tell us he wasn’t an employee) intimidating is an understatement, I was shaking with fear.from his demeanour. Ruined our entire evening . Staff spent ages trying to sort it out, all I wanted was the charlatan to leave so I felt safe but they let him stay until he finished his drink. All we were told when we approached management that we were speaking to them with an attitude- I was scared by the imposter!! Tearful as I write this. Can’t believe I was treated this way - beware of anyone approaching your table to discuss money & requests for payment at this pub, ask for ID & keep receipts. SCAM ALERT.

We visited on a weekday lunchtime. Couldn't fault the food or drink. Service noticeably slow. Pleasant enough overall. Would go back.

We had such a lovely impromptu evening here, with quality live music and yummy wine. Headed straight back the next evening for more of the same. Really great place for a town centre pub.

Made the booking for the wrong day, the mgr was so helpful and accommodated all 4 of us out so we could eat. Natasha was our server and was a delight. Will be singing this pub's praises 👏

Stopped here for lunch on our way back from our holiday and the food and atmosphere was lovely! Very good value too, and the Vietnamese oysters were delicious.

Who knew food in Newbury could be this could? The new menu is unreal, we had a variety of things and they were all absolutely delicious, the fish stew and arancini balls were the highlight. Huge portions, fabulous chips and super service on the side. Such a lovely venue, can not recommend it enough.

Have visited The Newbury countless numbers of times and always had the most amazing experience. When I was planning my fathers 90th Birthday celebration, there was only one place to choose. I booked the private dining room for 18 family members and friends. We had a fabulous and memorable time. Everyone’s food was on the table at the same time and everyone enjoyed the wonderful Sunday Lunch with beautifully cooked fresh vegetables. I cannot fault anything - the staff were attentive and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. From beginning to end this was a wonderful experience and one we will always cherish.

We recently held our wedding party celebration at the Newbury. We had around 60 guests, and hired the upstairs terrace and lounge. Aaron and his team were consistently good at communicating with us, and catered for our needs extremely well, including providing a DJ with short notice too. We use their buffet menu which provided 3 hot options along with side orders and starters. Our guests complimented the food and we agree, it was tailored to people’s needs including, vegan and GF. We would recommend The Newbury to anyone thinking of having a celebration there, we really did have a great time. Thanks again Aaron and team.

Aug 23. The directors. They set up a new company and wound up the existing one. A suggestion. Don't pay in advance or give them credit. What if they do it again?

After coming into the Newbury for drinks many times; as we've always found it a great atmosphere on weekend afternoons and evenings, we tried the breakfast menu this morning. I had the full English and was really impressed - not only was it beautifully presented but you could also tell they use quality produce. Coffee also really good. We had a really tasty breakfast and will definately be back again, highly recommend.

We wanted a Sunday roast in a pub in town as our friends hadn’t visited before. We usually go to a Country pub. I only have good things to say so don’t understand the last few reviews I have read. The staff were very welcoming and happily moved us as I wanted a quiet table. The 4 of us has different roasts and the meat was tender and veg plentiful. Service was polite and friendly and didn’t have to wait long despite the pub being full. Can recommend the roast beef and the vegetarian option. The Eton mess was huge and my friends enjoyed the banana bread dessert. We will return.

Food not bad in a noisy old pub /

An awful experience at The Newbury Pub while we came for dinner with family - all I can hear from the kitchen is a young chef with an earring behind the main pass shouting and swearing and just pissed off at everyone. We felt so ashamed for the owners, especially not a good look with a handful of families with young children. Need to sort that chef out. We will not be returning.

Came for breakfast on Saturday absolutely disgusting everything was over cooked and toast was burnt not good,seems like a rush job won’t be coming again.

The Newbury has been modernide in recent years. One side is gastro but we've yet to try, the other side is for drinks. I remember thet there was an upstairs terrace but didn't get that far this time, maybe next.

Lovely Scotch Egg starter Awful chicken main course, the mash had more taste My fish and chips was very disappointing, the fish was a small child’s portion and only 12 chips!! So annoyed all 4 of us decided against a dessert so we went to Sainsbury and bought some cheese. A very sad experience overall.

The Menu is full of variety, one stand out meal is the sea food curry it’s out of this world. Nice atmosphere.

We both had seafood curry last night that was out of this world, absolutely delicious. The assistant manager was very helpful & informed us of open mic nights & other functions. All staff were extremely helpful. We definitely will be back. Thank you. Annette

I go there every Thursday for open mic which is upstairs (most of the time). The chips are amazing and so was the burger. Definitely come here it is amazing

Glorious Race Day Brunch. Hot breakfast with delicious scrambled egg and salmon, amazing sweet treats, the waffles were perfect. Excellent cocktails and all served with a smile. Thankyou so much for a great start to our day.

Go along on a Thursday evening for the open mic music stage upstairs. Some really talented acoustic performers.

We stumbled upon this place in the day, visiting friends, who had just moved into the area. We were served by Mariano (a great, friendly guy, who gives a great first impression of the place), and went up to the roof terrace to drink in the sun. During our time there we chatted to the head chef, who was getting involved setting up for showing Glastonbury. This made us go back for dinner later. Dinner was spectacular, every dish was delicious, and the service by Paige was impeccable. This is now our friend’s favourite venue. Great as a bar/pub or restaurant. If you visit Newbury, you are doing yourself a disservice if you do not eat here. Well done The Newbury, you over delivered, and we’ll be back.

Great pub food, good collection of drinks with amazing atmosphere

Fantastic experience. Rang to see if they had space, very last minute, and the staff were very helpful. Lovely warm welcome. We chose to sit on the terrace, and the staff went out of their way to set it all up for us as we were the first up there. The beef was to die for!! We will definitely be returning again soon.

Great place great food and great staff, prices can appear to be a bit steep but well worth it

Terrace is decent but the chicken burger was genuinely disgusting and it was £10 without chips. Chips when they came were overly salted and not worth eating. Avoid like the plague if I was you for eating - just not even worth the money. Get a rustlers burger and you will be £9 better off and just as satisfied

Very expensive. £8 for 5 pieces of crispy squid which was blatantly frozen from aldi or something similar. If your going to charge prices like that then at least make it fresh.. just because you present it all fancy it doesn't mean you can rip people off.

We had bottomless brunch for my birthday and it was unbelievable! The service was at a high standard and our drinks were never empty. The food was incredible very well cooked and presented, with very good ingredients and plenty of choices. Highly recommend!

Couldn’t recommend this place enough. I held a surprise meal for my boyfriend and the staff were so accommodating, the food was delicious and our waiter was amazing.

Place looks lovely inside. Clients appear to be upmarket. The staff are all really beautiful or handsome and immaculately dressed. I only came in for coffee but every time I come here the staff look stressed, running around, lacking smiles or any signals that they enjoy what they're doing. Don't get me wrong, it's not like they're like a bunch of reprobates sitting in a dole queue wishing they were at home playing Xbox, I'm sure they're all smart and intelligent, they just look like they're not loving what they do. A real lack of warmth. The guy who served us was an older far Eastern guy, he was the only person to eventually acknowledge us (it wasn't busy in the bar). He was pleasant. The coffee was ok. We didn't stay for another.

Excellent gastro-pub food in a friendly atmosphere

We had a business celebration dinner for 30 people with pre ordered food. Even though we started later than planned due to guests arriving late, the kitchen was not phased. (Sorry chef)The food was excellent - & between all guests, we covered all the menu choices! Bailey & the others in Aaron's team worked exceptionally hard all evening. I was particularly pleased the food was served all at the same time. No small achievement & the pub was very full . Many thanks to all. Highly recommend Penny

We are a big fan of Newbury race course and many years ago (10) I asked my now husband to marry me at the Newbury pub....I thought I'd invite a small select group of friends to go back to the pub and have a great...

Thought the food looked a little expensive on the menu. Then I tried it and it was worth every penny. Excellent, would highly recommend this place.

Newbury town is reason easier to walk around to not worry that you have to go up or I left. There's more on the pavement to walk around even if it's really busy you still got space to walk. They have a nice museum with a coffee shop. You can set canal watching the boats go through still have a beautiful view of st. Nicholas church

We had a delicious Sunday roast at The Newbury and the service was very good and friendly. The food came within 5-8 minutes of ordering and we were pleasantly surprised. The chicken roast portion is quite large! They bring a pan of vegetables to share at the table. Lovely atmosphere and tastefully decorated. I would definitely come back.
