The Swan in West Berkshire

Service on arrival was good, albeit the young lady didn't really seem to know what she was doing. Food was OK, however one item on the mixed grill was awful. We were never offered any money off for booking and staying overnight, even though the menu seemed to imply we should have done. The rooms were tiny, bed uncomfortable and overall the place was 'tired'. Breakfast was awful, Service was poor, not what I paid for

Popped in for a drink with friends, great beer & atmosphere! Scott & Sadie always smiling & attentive behind the bar! Ale £2.90 a pint on Mondays!

Great environment, staff are amazing.. especially Scott, Saedi and Charlie. Good selection of beers and nice food. Pool table is always a touch

Here for a wake. Staff lovely. Food adequate. Room not value for money. Can hear people every move above room 6. I mean shouldn't be able to hear them in loo, walking about on very creaky floors. Room basic, but clean.

Perfect pit stop after a weekend in Swansea, lovely choice on the menu, quick service and good food. Poppy was a lovely waitress, friendly and attentive.

Business stay Not happy with the customer service, they have taken money on the visa without authorisation. Despite many calls requesting a call back I have not received one. Many emails sent asking why they took extra money when the accommodation was paid weeks in advance, only to be told a manager will ring back. I have still not received a call.

Popped in after picking up the new car whilst it got new tyres. Weather was awful but the service and the burger put a grin back on my face.

Delicious food and beverages. Friendly staff. Clean cloakroom facilities. Gorgeous big garden in which to relax (plus food can be eaten out there if wanted). All in all an excellent afternoon spent there. Thank you (especially Lucy and Ian)

WHAT A FIND, WE LOOKED ON GOOGLE FOR PLACES TO EAT, WE CHOSE HERE AFTER LOOKING AT THE REVIEWS, WE DEFINITLY WAS'T DISAPPOINTED THE STEAKS WE HAD WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD, VERY TASTY AND PERFECTLY COOKED EVEN THE CHIPS WE HAD WERE TASTY ALSO, IT WAS VERY BUSY IN THE GARDEN PLENTY OF FAMLIES HAVING FUN, I WILL COME BACK AGAIN.

Enjoyable good fun with pool and food was fresh and tasty I definitely recommended the pub if you want to have a nice dinner and a bit of fun.

Was visiting family in the area and came to the swan for a family meal as a table of 9. I got a gluten free meal which is allergy. Food was great and I didn’t get sick! Being from the USA, it can be nerve wrecking trying new places that can accommodate gluten free but my concerns were eased. Beth was particularly wonderful and was always checking in at the bar. Will be happy to go back next time we are visiting.

Room was tidy. Very clean. Noisy from above. The pub was very pleasant. The food disappointing as no grill items at all. So menu very restricted menu. Anyway very bad planning.

We came to the swan today to celebrate my nieces birthday. When we arrived, we were greeted by Draco at the bar, who was very friendly and polite. He served us our drinks and left us smiling. Once settled, we had a very tasty meal. I had the chicken and bacon salad, which was not just any plain salad. Professionally prepared by the chef, Scott. It was amazing. Safe to say, we left satisfied. Definitely worth a second visit.

Busy Friday lunchtime in the sun, only a couple of staff out front but they’re pro’s, particularly Beth who thrives on the action and delivers faultless customer service. Top marks.

Lunch was amazing, it was very busy and Lucy stepped up to the mark, despite being under age to serve alcohol helped out in every way she was allowed.

We came for a quiet family lunch, the pub had a lovely atmosphere which was mean even more enjoyable by our server Beth. The food was cooked to perfection by the amazing chef Lauren.

A great Sunday lunch, reasonably priced and very tasty! A table of 5, food came pretty quickly 1 especially for a Sunday!

Very disappointed with the service. Last time we visit the swan. We booked the window table at the front of the pub, at 2.45pm on Friday 16th of Feb , due to there being 7 of us and my mother being disabled and unable to do stairs the table was booked for 5.30 Saturday the 17th of Feb as we arrived we could see there was people at the table so asked a member of the team about our booking only to wait around for 10 minutes to be told the only table available was down stairs I explained we had booked the only large table on the upper level because my mother couldn't do stairs! but this fell on deaf ears. This happened last time we visited the swan but the manager explained to the (just drinkers) that the table had been reserved and they were happy to move, but to be fare neither times had they put a reserved sign on the table. So we took our £200+ business elsewhere.

Just tried the Swan as part of a camera walking group to see if it was worth coming here with the main group. A very bubbly welcome from Beth set the tone for a great lunch stop. The food was great in terms of price and portion size and the team were wonderful with the service and smiles. We booked for the main camera group as the whole visit impressed us.

What is absolutely outrageous about this place is that they employ a private parking company and they charge for parking. The price of drinks in this pub is astronomical without paying to park. I met my son for dinner and my partner dropped me off and then picked me up 2 hours later. The parking company quite conveniently photographed my car entering to drop me off but not leaving. It did not photograph my car entering to pick me up but it did conveniently show my car leaving once I had been picked up. I would NEVER use this pub again and I would advise anyone thinking of doing so to THINK AGAIN and then go elsewhere.

Easy and cosy cheap overnight stay to visit friends locally. Welcoming staff, quick and easy check in. Clean bedroom and bathroom. Didn’t use pub so can’t comment but the room was fine. Would stay again.

Stayed for 4 days over Christmas and found the room ( numder5) and although the room was nice and clean however there we several problems with the plumbing, I sent polite review then looked forward to hearing you coments sadly my coments were ignored which was dissapointing John Rider…..Bristol

Turned up during a busy Friday without booking a table and was greeted by an amazing team who went out of their way to provide a great service. Food was spot on and the wait wasn’t long on food at all.

Absolutely fantastic food and hospitality. We were greeted by Kate and Hayley who looked after us, then the food was great! I bought my 87 year old Grandad who had the Cod and Chips and he said it’s the best he’s had in a long time! Compliments to Mark and Lauren in the kitchen! Great to see this pub finally have good staff and management. An absolute gem!

We’ve been in a few times now over the last couple of months for both food and drinks. The bar staff have been extremely friendly and attentive each time. Hayley and Kate really looked after us today and it’s great to see the pub thriving again. This is absolutely a result of the efforts of the staff. Mark & Louise worked so hard today on a very unexpected busy Thursday lunch time. We’ll be back soon!

Shockingly bad. Really really don’t go here. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Family Sunday dinner costs a lot of money these days. These guys just don’t care…bad service, mediocre food. They couldn’t care less when food took ages to come, the order was wrong and they forgot one plate (and there was only 4 of us). Lots of other pubs in the area…I won’t be going back to this pub in a hurry…

Stopped here passing through, and I was really glad we did. The service was really good, the food was hot and bought to us quickly. The pub garden is HUGE and amazing for families with dogs and young kids. Highly recommend.

I stayed at the Swan in thatcham, the accommodation is fine modern and clean. My main complaint is that I asked for breakfast at 8am, we turned up and no one was at the pub. Myself and my daughter stood there in the pouring rain....
