The best restaurants in Faringdon and The Coxwells Vale of White Horse South East

We popped by the other evening to dine in because we haven’t been there for a while except for take-always but was disappointed with the overall experience. To summarize; the place is looking quite dog eared now and desperately needs some investment. Half the lights weren’t working and the furniture and decor are really dated now. The floor is also very creaky and uneven. To the food however. Our meals all ‘tasted’ very nice - BUT - wow! … their portions have really shrunk significantly. An example of this is; I can remember ordering meat samosas as a starter way back when and you used to receive two large triangles of filled filo pastry on a nice bed of salad. That then changed to three small parcels and that has now been reduced even further to two small parcels, with a small bit of salad on the side as garnish. Very disappointing. Then came the mains; once again very tasty - But - visually, it looked like a few paltry chunks of chicken swimming in a sauce, served up on a small flat crockery salver. The prices overall seem to have remained stable, so that might explain the reduced portion sizes. Drinks are quite expensive however. I can’t see us driving over to dine there again in the near future.

Fantastic Sunday Roast! All trimmings, loads of flavour, traditional cosy pub atmosphere, staff are lovely and attentive. Chef came out to make sure everyone was happy 🙌🏻 lovely garden area, great for bikers, cyclists and walkers. Reasonably priced and a bit of a celeb hot spot ;)

Lovely Calm Hotel. Perfect after a long work day at the Airport. The reams are in an old fashion way, and the heating system is Astonisching good. I did not expect that. The Breakfast ist Easy-british, and on request you can get eggs, in different ways from the lovely team, and the Night Portier is an awesome person. The good bus connection to Oxford makes it also a good place to be. Little charming stores are located in 2 Minutes walk, and by good weather, having a beer in the garden of the hotel, or in the middle of the village is perfectly suitable. For those that can't spare having a car, you can park the car for free and for the electriccar-users you have two charging ports that can recharge it. Overall, I can only raccomand it.

Elegimos este restaurante porque aparecía como dog friendly y queriamos probar el tradicional Sunday Roast.Primera decepción: nos dicen que en el restaurante no, que tiene que ser en la terraza de un bonito jardín. Como hace buen día no nos importa (aunque no nos gusta comer en terrazas).El servicio es lento, pero no tenemos prisa. Por fin llegan los primeros platos y con ellos empiezan a merodear las avispas. Uno de los comensales es alérgico a sus picaduras. Lo comentamos. Ninguna solución. A duras penas acabamos los primeros (que no son como para tirar cohetes) y comentamos si podemos trasladarnos al interior. Nos dicen que si, pero que tenemos que dejar a la perrita fuera a pesar de que la sala está prácticamente vacía. Les decimos que para nada y no nos dan ninguna solución. Comentamos que eso no es ser un restaurante dog friendly, pero como si oigo llover.Decidimos irnos y todo el detalle y la disculpa que tienes con nosotros es presentarnos una cuenta de aproximadamente la mitad del importe de los menús de 3 platos que habíamos pedido.Una vergüenza y una decepción enorme.

Your typing costs coffee experience. The location is perfect, just across my hotel. Great for coffee on the go before seeing the city.

Visited on Thursday lunch time. Not busy, but a wonderful visit. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was very good, My husband had the sirloin and was cooked just how he ordered it, I had the Mediterranean vegetable tart which was lovely, the pastry was very crisp, with a lovely salad on the side. The desserts were well worth it too. Good selection of alcohol free drinks, important when one of you is driving. The toilets were spotless clean and well stocked with everything you could think off, including hand lotion and sanitary goods if needed. I was very impressed. We will definitely go again.

Carpenters have now sadly closed I think due to retirement but the new tenants Blake’s Kitchen are well worth a visit and serve decent food

We came across this pub before Christmas and we loved it so much we have spent the past three Sundays having our roast dinner even booked again for next week…. The staff our amazing and the food is 10/10

Food is bland, sometimes undercooked, wouldn’t recommend, my partner was throwing up all night. She had one bite of the chicken is was still slimy. Definitely need to be check over by food standards again.

Utterly disgusting. Got the order completely wrong. Interrupted me on the phone. Shouted. Rude. Would not accept liability. Never ordering again. If I could give 0 stars I would!

Absolutely adore a takeaway from The May Flower, enjoying exploring the menu but just can’t say no to the generous Mayflower Special Rice and saucy Crispy Chilli Shredded Beef. Just love ordering lots of different things and sharing amongst the family. Such good value for what you get. No photos, we scoffed it all.
