Carpenters have now sadly closed I think due to retirement but the new tenants Blake’s Kitchen are well worth a visit and serve decent food

This listing needs to reflect the change of cafe ownership. We used to go to Carpenters canteen regularly and it was fantastic. It had been a place we always made excuses to visit with our dogs for both the food, atmosphere and location (for dog walking). In the last year, it has changed hands and is now run by Blakes (who have a successful cafe in a village a few miles away). Everyone was raving about them and their Cinnamon buns (which I admit are good), however after a few visits, it's just not as good as it used to be. It gets overly busy and the food options are very restricted compared to before. Plus value for money has taken a dive. A bacon sandwich barely contains any bacon and it's not cheap. They only have a few things on the breakfast menu and then a few for lunch. Why does anyone have restricted hours for such food, none of it takes that long to prepare. We no longer make any effort to go. Now its full of families and cyclists so it's hard to get a table and too cramped and noisy when you do. It's OK, but no longer anything special. We now go elsewhere. Such a shame as it was the best place around to take the dogs and only 2 miles away from home.

We popped into the coffee shop for lunch and a cup of tea. The tea was fine, but the Cranberry, Bacon and Brie roll was awful. My husband and I had the same and choice for lunch. The Bacon in both our the rolls were re heated tough and hard, it had been cooked twice. I couldn't cut through the bacon, so sent it back to the kitchen. The replacement Cranberry, Bacon and Brie roll arrived and the bacon was fresh, but not cooked enough. For £22 you expect a higher standard. In future we will just have a cake instead. A very disappointing lunch. I wish taken photos to show on this review!

As a group of Cotswold cyclists from the Stow on the Wold area this a longish mid week ride for our first visit to the Carpenters Canteen at Coleshill. However, we were rewarded with a venue full of character, plenty of spacious outside seating and safe bike Parking. The staff were particularly cheery and helpful and the selection of cakes and sandwiches of very good quality and generously portioned. The Barista style coffee was excellent. With the best part of 30 miles to return home we greatly appreciated the quick service and this was easily up with the best we have experienced on our weekly ‘WG’ ride-outs covering a 30 mile radius from Stow. We have added it to our ‘Go To’ list of Wednesday Group Cafes and look forward to returning soon.

This place is absolutely superb! A wonderful range of lunches and drinks. Dog friendly in a beautiful area with both outside and indoor areas. Peaceful and a delightful ambience. Best Flat White I’ve ever had with a wonderful range of cakes and a very homely feel. Customer service was exceptional and staff were friendly, attentive and polite. Despite being busy - service was quick. Thoroughly recommend!

Beautiful hidden gem! I almost didn’t go as the place has almost zero online presence so thought it wasn’t open anymore. We are so glad we did! We went for breakfast every morning following for the rest of the trip. Beautiful lot decorated, dog friendly and friendly staff. The £5 bacon bap was incredible. The pastries looked amazing too. Don’t miss this!

A nice.cafe with a outside area. Sandwiches look.nice and not.too badly priced. However, coffees are so expensive! £3.50 for a cappuccino and if you want plant.based milk (oat milk for me) it's an extra 80p. £4:30 for a coffee?! Cafes sometimes add extra for plant based milks, usually 30p. Visited today on request of a friend so I.opted for tea....2 teas, a small pastry and a peice of cake £12:40. Such a shame

Stopped here on cycle ride, mid-morning Sunday. Not too busy. Lovely place with friendly, efficient staff. I had nice vegan flapjack and coffee with oat milk. A couple of vegan things on lunch menu so will visit again but would be good to see more choice of vegan cake other than just flapjack. Good walking area so ideally placed.

I haven't been here for quite some time, and I really wonder why! We had the most amazing lunch! We called in on the way back from Witney managing to arrive 5 minutes before lunch service finished at 2pm. We were allowed in with the Westies, ordered coffee, sandwiches and cake. We were warned that there was a wait for food which wasn't an issue. We enjoyed our coffee and naughtily nibbled our cake. The lady who brought our coffee and cake came back apologising that our lunch ticket has slipped somewhere and just been found so would we like another drink. The service was was amazing and lady came to apologise and the gentleman who brought the coffees said to let him know if we needed anything. We had a coronation chicken sandwich and a toasted chicken, stuffing and cranberry sandwiche which were stuffed with filling, a side salad and crisps. Our cake was a blonde rocky road (sweet and naughty) and bread pudding, delicious. We're definitely going back! Sometimes we pop to Highworth for a treat but we're definitely going a bit further in future. In fact I think my parents have already decided they are borrowing the Westies to take them out for lunch! Thank you all

I visited this cafe with two children. First impression was the garden was nice and there was a good selection of food and drinks. We ordered a cake each, 2 soft drinks and 1 hot one, the bill was over £17! I thought the cashier had made a mistake but as she grabbed the receipt off the the card reader without giving me a copy, could not check. We sat at a small, bare, square table next to a wall. The tray of drinks was brought over and plonked on the table and tray left there, covering most of the table. The requested marshmallows had been forgotten on the hot chocolate so I had to remind the waitress when she brought the cakes. The waitress started to walk away still leaving the tray still covering most of the table, I had to call her back to ask her to take it. Although the cakes were good, I didn't feel very impressed with the experience.

Coleshill park has the most beautiful walks but the jewel in the crown is the cafe. I wanted a small coffee so it was specially made to my liking. The Portuguese tart was crisp and delicious. Can’t speak highly enough of this pretty and welcoming spot.

The old gates and tools on the wall are a marvel to look at and the forecourt is a lovely space to relax with a coffee. Will be going back again.

We have regularly visited carpenters canteen which we have always enjoyed. However,on our recent visit on the 5th August we had our usual capuchino and cake only to find the coffee cost £3.10 and the cake £3.25.These prices are,in my view extortionate and do not equate in any way with usual market prices.Clearly overpriced and smacks of attempted profiteering and perhaps a little greedy.A real shame as we always enjoyed our visits.Pleasant staff and good service but we will not be visiting again and will be supporting other equally good but more reasonably priced cafes.

We called in here as I’d never been and thought we’d try it out. We ordered two cheese scones with butter and two coffees and sat in the garden. Our very small scones arrived before the coffees, We thought as we buttered our not very cheesy cheese scones that the butter had a strange texture, the coffees were very small and not that hot. As we sat chattering I noticed on the butter wrapper, ‘use by 6/6/23’ The date of our visit being Monday 19th June!! My friend caught the attention of the waitress and told her we’d just eaten two weeks out of date butter, she just said ‘Oh sorry, I’ll tell the kitchen’ We sat for another 15 minutes half expecting maybe a further apology from the kitchen but nobody came near us, so we left having spent £12.30 on two small un-cheesy scones, stale butter and two small warm coffees. Obviously there won’t be a return visit.
