We had an utterly delightful time at this restaurant. The photos don't do it justice. It just looks a little drab in them, but in person the interior and garden when you are there and actually boots on the ground is charming and relaxing, as was the small interior room we ate in close to the tiny bar with the game table. Our meals were amazing, frankly shocked by how good. Corses 1st - 4th perfections. Could have eaten 2nd's on everything. It been quite a while 6 years, so might have gone down, but surprised by the 4 star reviews as I would have given it a 5 back then. We really had a lovely time. I have always wanted to write them a review and just found their card while looking for places for a relative.'s trip . I am thinking people had to have hit it on a bad night, or maybe it is under new ownership, but I would agree with the bride's review, we had a perfect evening and everyone including my daughter was was about 11, my husband, I and some Oxford Don friends have a blast. It will definitely be on my places go back to when next in the area. The staff were very gracious, welcoming, sweet and kind to my daughter. I think it does not photograph well in these photos but I found the place very visually appealing and I am a fussy visual crank. The service well managed organized and smooth.

Have put one star because lack of accurate communication available. We tried to come here for lunch on our walk to Wytham Woods two days ago but it was closed and looked properly shut up. A gentleman saw us looking and told us he was local and that the owners had left and the pub was now closed. If this is correct, then they need to update their website to avoid confusion.

I find this pub a shame and embarrassing in the way they have gone ‘Insolvent’ and not selling for retirement which the Oxford Mail publishes, whilst the landlord escapes. This is all whilst the staff fight for there unpaid wages through the Government scheme. This is also the pub which the public liked throughout covid, however the owner sifted off tips from staff they were deserved. The Oxford Mail paint a different picture from their awful journalism. I hope the staff get what they are owed and a new employer pays them what they truly deserve.

The reservation confirmation had a link to a traditional Sunday Lunch menu - perfect for a lunch with my mother-in-law. However, only a BBQ menu was available. Woefully understaffed & overbooked. We saw 2 sets of diners leave before their meals came - fed up with waiting. We were just about at that stage when our meals arrived-mediocre & flavourless would be an apt description. If we have been asked how our meal was, we would have let them know! Management were not on the premises - I can see why! We won’t be back.

Booked on the basis of website menu and previous visit, expecting Sunday lunch . Note - not a walk in where waiting to be expected. Cold inside. Barbecue menu with no 'Sunday lunch' and nothing like the website menu. Over 30 minutes after ordering, had to go to bar and ask where our bread (focaccia) starter was. Should hav ebeen suspicious when asked to give second choice in case first. choice had run out.v Meanwhile table of 4 got up leaving nearly full plates which were not cleared for 40 minutes. Then watched neighbouring couple receive their meal and instantly walk out. Getting really concerned by this point - two tables' reps went to look at abandoned meal to see what might be wrong. Ugely presentation but not obviously putrid. At 1 hour 30 wait point, a different table who arrived after us got their meal. Asked waiter for an explanation, got 'short staffed, owner always over books even though one in the kitchen , one indoors and one outdoors' i.e not a one off, result of a crisis. 'Not my fault, nothing I can do about it'. Child at next table getting distressed. Further request for ETT of food - no idea. Making to leave when food (most of it) arrived : OK but not memorable and definitely the second choice, about which we had not been informed. A further table walked out without paying. My companions were not willing to leave contact details and a message to owner / manager - contact us for payment as we don't trust you to act on feedback unless you have a financial incentive. This place deserves to go under so someone truthful and competent not a complete fantasist can come in & take it over. Th website should be taken down instantly as grossly misleading.

We booked online having looked at the Sunday menu on the website which had roast lunches. On arrival we were told that they were not doing Sunday lunches currently. An update on the website would be useful as we heard other customers requesting the same. A bit disappointed but chose from the current available menu anyway. We waited over 30 mins for starters to arrive, we ordered olives and Foccacia. The olives were nice, the bread was warm on one side and cold on the other..Maybe this was deliberate to cater for individual tastes? Thankfully we had a jug of water placed on the table when we arrived as with no visible waiting staff and the long wait for food I had drunk my small glass of wine before the starter arrived. 40 minutes after our arrival the table opposite, where previous diners had sat, was still not cleared and I was getting so hungry I started contemplating picking at their left overs! The main eventually arrived, turning the heads of all the other diners who had been patiently waiting in anticipation. I wish I had taken a photo of the plate that we had been presented with, a dinner plate with half of it covered with a greyish coloured potato salad and a small amount of some slow cooked short rib. The potato was fridge cold and the beef was tepid. Who wants half a dinner plate of potato salad? and is willing to pay £18 for it. Anyway, we looked at the plates and left after speaking to the man in charge. We offered to pay for our drinks and the starters but in fairness to him he said that he would cover the cost of these. Popped to the shop on the way home and now cooking a roast! Bullet point feedback; hire more staff, sack the chef, update your website to reflect what you are currently serving, rethink your Sunday menu and rethink your business model! You are in an 'on a limb' location wise, thus people need a reason to go the extra mile to visit you, make that extra mile worth it for them and you.

Located in the lovely village of Wytham the pub offers a cosy environment to enjoy great food and drinks and a friendly personnel. It could have been a better experience if the BBQ menu available on the day we stopped by, would have been handled different: the food was good but we had to wait a long time (nearly an hour) for it. There was also no kid menu, but unfortunately it is common in many pubs - not helpful when you travel with a family and want to enjoy pub food.

Whoever is managing this pub needs to go back to catering college. The food is overpriced - £18 for a tasteless hamburger with solid cheese on top for which we waited over half an hour is just ridiculous. We were given water for the table but no one came to ask if we would like anything else to drink. The final insult was to have the service charge put on to the bill…we did not pay it and I think as customers we should not pay unless there has been exceptional service. How they manage when there is a crowd in I don’t know.

Superb dinner in their walled garden dining in one of the pods. A warm welcome from the ever charming Baz before dining on local, seasonal food with a good selection of wines by the glass and an interesting non-alcoholic cocktail for the driver. We had asparagus, crab, cod & steak all cooked perfectly before sharing a jubilee trifle. Special mention to the ever smiling Jake who looked after us. The new chef and menu at the White Hart really tells - as do the welcoming helpful staff and well judged ambience. This looks to rival Arbequina as our go to date night destination in and around Oxford. There is plenty to choose from on the menu. We went for the Radishes with Almond Mayo which were deliciously crisp and subtle with a portion to please Peter Rabbit. The Scotch Egg was near perfect: crisp coating, really savoury port covering and a soft yoked egg. The bacon terrine came with pickled radishes which balanced out the saltiness and super thin Melba toast. Mains were grilled mackerel with grated fresh horseradish (a trick I’ll be taking home) and cod in parsley sauce (ask for a spoon as the creamy sauce is to die for). The reconstructed chips are to die for : grated potato in a sleeper shaped bloc crisp on the outside and not greasy, served with homemade mayonnaise. Fine beans and a salad were as described. The choice of spirits and beers/ciders is great. The wines we had were OK but not quite the match for the food. We’ll work our way through the others and report back. Apart from the food and the welcoming responsive staff it is the well judged ambience. Relaxed, fun decor (great hats) and unobtrusive jazz in the background makes it feel like a comfortable chair you can sit it without worries. What a joy to find real thought through well sourced food in a great setting. Go now. This will soon be packed.

Well, what can I say. From the very first time we met and chatted to Baz about having our wedding evening reception here, it was a done deal. Baz was enthusiastic, eager to provide what we wanted, keen to work with us to ensure a real value-for-money event and as pleasant and amenable as one could ever want. In fact, all the staff here are superb too. Very polite, chatty and make you feel very welcome indeed. Needless to say the event was an unqualified success and in no small part down to Baz himself and his team. Great food, great service (despite them being seriously short staffed that night) and terrific atmosphere. They have a new chef by the way and he's damn good. A great place for a drink, a meal, a short stay or a lingering one. Speaking of which, try the Sunday lunch, you will not be disappointed. I'm a fussy and, my new wife assures me, a grumpy old git, so if I give five stars, you'd better believe it's well earned and well deserved.

If there were 6 stars, the White Hart would deserve them. Very imaginative renditions of quintessential English dishes made with the best local ingredients.....done with finesse but not fussy or pretentious. The asparagus was sublime, the Scotch egg wonderful, the neck of pork succulent and the rhubarb bakewell was out of this world...kudos to the chef/s! And very reasonably priced! Plus friendly service. Get there while you can!!

We went here this evening and were sadly disappointed. I have been here a few times and had a nice meal. Tonight was a very limited menu and expensive. I had the chicken breast which came with a small ramekin of sauce and nothing else. My husband had the steak which came with 6 chips! There was no garnish on either plate so good job we ordered side dishes to go with it. Unfortunately this has put us off from going again. We were seated in the conservatory but the smell from the toilets was awful so we asked to move outside. The guy that served us was very nice. I have definitely had better meals in the past so not sure what has happened.

From a fairly limited menu it was hard to find a vegetarian gluten free meal I fancied, but the asparagus starter was good, the only thing I would choose. The deserts were all fairly calorific, only one that appeared to be gluten free. A pity there wasn’t any fresh fruit on the menu, except under a lot of cream. I’d have given the pub a 4 star rating if it hadn’t been for the ladies loos, which were obviously undergoing something of a blip, as the smell was almost unbearable. The waiting staff were really nice, although a little forgetful, but were obliging when reminded. The outside space for eating was very well organised for socially distanced times, if a little hot under all the plastic, but we’d have been grateful for the plastic had the heavens opened.

We had to wait 1 hour to get our food even tough the pub was not too busy. The food is extremely expensive for what you have and is not even cooked well: £16 for a plate with literally 1 piece of grilled chicken which was also dry. The crab starter had bits of shelves… Plenty of better pubs nearby.

Appreciate that they are busy but it's no reason to be rude and could have very easy asked us to come back another time or leave contact details. RE: Unfortunately what you consider as 'very polite' is not how it was received by four people. Pros - large outdoor seating area and a decent amount of parking, although probably less than would be needed if the pub was full. Real fire Cons- unlike the nearby Trout, this pub is not on the river so no attractive view. Such a pub needs to compete on its food, drink and service. Which were from a factory, nothing special and very slow (although the manager was very sweet) respectively. In summer, if there is village cricket, the village pitch is lovely and a short walk away. Perhaps then one might have the quintessential English experience. This pub is probably best avoided the rest of the year though.

Getting to the White Hart requires you drive past several other welcoming pubs and the fact that, despite this, it was busy when we visitied on a mid-week evening speaks volumes. On Wednesday this week I dropped in on spec to find a Jazz evening being hosted in their ancient, walled courtyard. The atmosphere was fantastic, the music excellent and the food being served at the Courtyard tables looked great (on this occaision we didn't eat but based on really good past experiences we were sorely tempted) As part of their COVID precautions all the outside tables have plastic enclosures and due to the nature of their walled courtyard the pub have been able to put a huge clear "roof" up giving a really good inside feel to an outside area. Go back? Absolutely, Recommend to friends? Without hesitating

Really nice place with really nice food. Covid friendly. A bit pricey for what you get but absolutely nice for a treat.

Fantastic pub and restaurant. Delicious food, wide choice including plenty of vegetarian options, friendly staff, great events, loads of outdoor but undercover COVID safe seating, beautiful location. Can't fault it.

My granddaughter and I met half way for lunch and were not disappointed. We sat in the garden and both had ciabatta filled with bacon and Brie that came with fries. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely, homely pub! Hayley is an amazing host who goes above and beyond for the customers, it feels like you are speaking with a friend. Couldn’t recommend this pub enough, the food is lovely, the atmosphere makes you feel at home and prices are very reasonable.

Rob & Will have quite literally saved The Plough. The food is always good, the atmosphere is welcoming, and we love coming to the pub for food and/or drinks. We’re very lucky to have such a great pub in the village.
