The Greyhound in Vale of White Horse

Four of us had starters, mains and pudding: all of which was absolutely first rate, compliments to the kitchen staff. A big thank you to George who waited on us. He was very accommodating; served with a smile and was quick to clear our table. Cannot record highly enough. Thank you greyhound team!

A pre booked and preordered Boxing Day lunch. The venue is delightful with easy car parking. The young servers were efficient and polite. On arrival we checked in with the lady behind the bar who appeared to be running things. She just pointed and said your table is over there. She certainly wasn’t welcoming. The pub was busy but not full and they certainly were accepting walk ins or people who had not pre ordered. The turkey dinner ordered by four of us was probably the worst any of us had ever eaten. Three sprouts, three small pallid roast potatoes, no parsnips but a spoonful of something that might have been parsnip purée, no cranberry sauce, one carrot, a slice of stuffing and some acceptable turkey. As it was Boxing Day this was not cheap. A very disappointing occasion. Surely cooking a Christmas dinner for a chef should be no different to cooking a Sunday roast?

Really enjoyed our lunch. I'm coeliac and they cater extremely well for us non gluten eaters. Extensive menu with many gf options and interesting ones at that. The very well-informed waiter explained they use gf beer in the batter - I could have had onion rings! Unfortunately I only spotted that when it came to desserts. And I was just too full... Would certainly go again.

Went here today. Didn’t book at lunch as showed lots of space.Went to the bar and seeing it was busy asked if they had any availability even if not straight away. Manager looked up and said we are fully booked even though tables were free. She was busy on iPad and didn’t even say perhaps grab a drink and see, we would have waited. Had a friend over from 2 hours away and never experienced such rude behaviour won’t go back again. Went to bear and ragged staff who welcomed us and couldn’t do enough and had a lovely meal so they can have my customers instead. Even if you are busy please don’t ignore people and show them no manners at all, it costs nothing

We had a lovely meal here in the cosy (but not too small) restaurant. They had something for everyone including a 5 year-old who was part of our party. We would come here again.

What a fantastic meal. Being a coeliac, eating out can sometimes be difficult and boring. There menu was full of gluten free options. I started with the salmon fish cake. Packed with fiery flavour. And a decent size. To follow was the bacon chop. Every mouthful was delicious. The chop was beautifully tender, and the colcannon mash was fantastic. Dessert was a good old sticky toffee pudding. Atmosphere was a nice busy Monday lunch. If I could be super critical, it lacked background music. As it got quieter, it just needed something to lift the atmosphere up. But overall a great meal!

Exactly what we wanted! Delicious food, superb beer selection, buzzing (but not loud) and friendly. We can’t wait to come back!!!

Visited with friends for an early dinner. Our drinks arrived quickly and our starters weren't far behind. Our Goan curry King prawns were delicious; would be great as a main course. For our mains we had the cod and chips, ribeye steak and roast loin of venison. All were delicious! Mrs D said her venison was just the right amount! (Restaurants that insist on serving mega portions, please take note!). For desserts we had puddings - sticky toffee and bread and butter. Both very yummy! Great staff and service. I haven't been to The Greyhound for a few years, but after finally returning for a Sunday lunch with family, I was happy to find it was as good as ever. It was very busy, but the service wasn't bad, considering. All of my food was delicious and portion sizes very generous. The crispy beef salad was lovely, with so much beef, and the Bramley apple sorbet was amazing. The pricing was very reasonable for the quality of food and everybody thoroughly enjoyed their meal.

We arrived at 12:10 and left at 15:10 after just 2 courses. The food was very good and tasty, well presented from a very mouthwatering menu. I think the restaurant was very busy because the food is so good but 3 hours for a 2 course meal? I was told they were very busy and had staff shortages. I felt very sorry for our young waitress struggling with a tiny paper pad and pen - where were the tablets other restaurants use? This would have been a great help instead she had to go back to the desk and key in all the orders - time consuming when the restaurant is so busy. Please Greyhound use the technology.

Excellent service, food and establishment. Friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to make sure our experience was a great one. The food is absolutely beautiful - highly recommend the steak, it was cooked to perfection. The crispy beef salad was refreshing and delicious with mountains of crispy beef. The perfect lunch before our visit to Blenheim which is just 20 minutes away.

Great menu, backed by great food and service The Moroccan lamb burger with halloumi was a particular favourite, the steak burger and chicken pies were also complemented by our party.

I'd give this visit more than 5 stars if I could. My family & I have visited for many, many years, as it is our "halfway" meeting point for my family - it takes us all 40 minutes to get to from where we live. This time, we had mains & desserts, followed by coffees for afters, & I / we can not give it any negatives at all - it was just perfect, from start to finish. * Staff extremely friendly & welcoming * Food was absolutely delicious (compliments to the chefs!) * waiting time was absolutely fine * lovely & clean all around the place. Lovely food and atmosphere. I had the crispy beef salad and it was delicious the only thing I would say is that the food was quite expensive. I’d go again but for a treat.

Both my partner and I had a roast and it was all perfectly cooked. The staff were lovely and the dog menu was an added bonus to keep our dachshund Olive busy while we enjoyed our meal. It is perhaps a little over priced but it really was delicious and the building and gardens are well kept.

We’ve been here before and it’s been excellent, although that was a year ago in 2022. The starters were great but my son and I ordered a ribeye and sirloin steak , rare and medium well done respectively. My ribeye was like a rump, very fatty and grisly, and the sirloin was rare rather than medium to well done. Not a great experience. The times been giving us the menus for desserts and taking the other was over half an hour, which was way too long!

Beautiful pub, with lovely gardens. Welcoming and efficient service with wide variety of drinks and food. Would highly recommend.
