Rob & Will have quite literally saved The Plough. The food is always good, the atmosphere is welcoming, and we love coming to the pub for food and/or drinks. We’re very lucky to have such a great pub in the village.

Lovely looking old pub. We received a warm welcome from the very personable landlord upon arrival. I had fish and chips (all fish gluten free so I was very happy!) my son enjoyed the venison burger a lot and he’s really particular about his food. Hubby had pie of the day, steak and ale and enjoyed that too. Nice atmosphere, the locals that we met were all friendly. We will be back soon, thank you

Popped in for a lunch after taking the dog for a walk on the flooded river nearby. Couldn't be more welcoming to us and our dog. Lunch was higher than 5 star. The fish finger sandwich was such good value large portion size but also tasted fantastic; proper fancy sandwich not fish fingers but 2 large goujon fillets.

Lovely old village Pub , very friendly staff and great food, nice selection of ales and tap beer, good wines. A recent change of chef has bought some changes to the food style and the offering now is changing and evolving regularly. As an example there has been a range of pies on offer with tasty fillings , such as Pork and apple, steak and ale and a gorgeous Lamb suet pudding. I recently had a Lamb curry which was so tasty, sensibly spiced and with so much flavour . Thoroughly recommend a visit.

The Plough Inn is de lokale pub in Appleton.

Been visiting the area for many years and had seen this place reopen so thought we'd give it a go. Nice size garden, could use some tlc in places, but plenty of space and sun. 7 of us stopped for lunch on a Sunday and was a good overall experience and friendly service. Menu wasn't extensive but often that's a good thing as you can do only a few things, but do them well! We had Sunday roasts that were plentiful and tasty, plates went back empty; £19 with a coice of meats Desserts are made in house and were all enjoyed. They don't do the standard kids menu (chicken nuggets et) but again this didn't bother us, they were able to do a few of the menu dishes as kids portions which again we prefer. Add to that, 3 cask ales and we all left very happy. The owners mentioned they'd got some investment coming so we'll definitely be back sometime. Well worth a visit if you're in the area!

We called here today after a lovely walk in nearby Besselsleigh Community Woods where the bluebells are currently wonderful. The pub is really welcoming and we were sorry that we only had room for starters after rather a big tea yesterday. The blue cheese mousse was yum. We’ll def be back for a full meal before long. The current guys have not been there long but have earned golden opinions locally. There are two very good but quite pricey pubs nearby - the Greyhound at Besselsleigh and the White Hart at Fyfield - so the Plough’s aim to be a more modest village pub seems like a good idea. Thanks very much for a great visit and looking forward to next time

Absolutely love this village pub! We are new to the village and have been visiting since Will and Rob opened. Such lovely people, always making it so fun to visit. Good selection of cider and beer on tap and amazing food. The gluten free fish and chips are amazing, and the staff are very knowledgable on coeliac disease. The menu is always getting new options, good for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters. The pub quizzes, bingo and other nights they host are thoroughly enjoyable. Will most likely be back this week.

We've been here a handful of times already since the reopening and we only have great things to say. The food is top quality - we've loved all the menus we've tried so far, the regular, the Sunday roast and the Argentinian week! So nice to be warmly welcomed, with a smile and called by my name (I'm a local) unlike the recent proprietors. The place is clean, nicely decorated and furnished and is warm. The garden and car park, previously a mess, have been cleaned up. I've had several meals, all good and the presence of a chef is obvious. Not out the freezer, into microwave, and onto plate as how many pubs serve food. Such a change and heartily recommended.

It's just reopened for the first time since we've lived in the neighbourhood with new ownership. Lovely couple of chaps running it, very friendly and welcoming even with our handful of mucky children. Still refurbishing the kitchen so the menu was limited but nonetheless the homemade burger and pie were both absolutely delicious. Nice, if small, beer selection, and a rareity for round here they had some craft beers (beavertown, brewdog, and brixton breweries) on tap as well as a selection of real ales including darkstar. Place is all newly done inside, clean and nice atmosphere, real open fire. Highly recommend stopping in.

Very friendly local village pub in the beautiful village of Appleton. The menu was very well priced and varied with lots of different specials, not your ordinary pub. The burger was outstanding the best I have had in a long long time and the Greek Kebab was delicious. Local ales and ample outside space, perfect for families or couples, it is nice to find somewhere where you can have a meal and you feel you are not paying for over priced food, it is very different food, made with passion, will definitely be going back to try other things on the menu. We thought that we would treat ourselves to a pudding but were told there was only one serving of a pudding and some ice cream, as it wasn’t the weekend- extraordinary! As a family of four we visited the Plough last week on the way to Oxford having read good reviews on their website. We booked a table for 8.15pm only to find on arrival they had closed any further orders at 8pm because of numbers and were turning customers away. To be fair when we told them we'd booked they allowed us to order food but it took over an hour from ordering to being served. Despite being stretched, from what I could see there was only one member of bar staff, one waitress and probably only one chef on duty given the time it took, and the way we were each served food at different times. Despite decent food I've given a 2rating, it would have been more if the experience had been more enjoyable and more staff employed to make a smoother service.

We stopped off at the Plough Inn for a quick lunch after hearing good things about the new owners. I hadnt been there for a couple of years so decided to give it a go for lunch before continuing to Oxford. The pub is bright and airy amd we were given a warm welcome as we approached the bar.I chose the local.trout with buttery potatoes (great to see a pub keeping their food miles down) whilst my friend asked about their gluten free options. She was thrilled when told they do their own gluten free batter for fish and chips and opted for that.Dishes were served in a timely fashion - it was relatively quiet but it was just after midday butit did steadily get busier. And the food? Delicious. Everything was obviously fresh and cooked to order and it showed. My trout was cooked to perfection and my friend enjoyed her fish and chips. The gluten free batter was light and airy amd i helped her finish what could be described as a very generous portion.Alas, we didnt have time for the tempting dessert menu but that didnt stop us looking!I will definitely be back soon!

Third recent visit, and each time the problem is the same. Lack of experienced, welcoming front of house staff. We turned up on a saturday lunchtime and despite plenty of punters there was no one behind the bar. We all waited for over 10 minutes for anyone to appear and then the service was painfully slow due to unfamiliarity with what was on offer and how to work the till. Sad, because the food has been fine on each visit (standard pub fare rather than gastro), and not too long a wait once ordered. It’s a new team so hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Myself and 5 friends went to the Plough Inn over the weekend to have dinner. When we arrived, we ordered our drinks at the bar. Bar service wasn't great, the man working wasn't particularly welcoming or friendly. It was a really lovely evening so we went to sit outside, however the majority of the tables were very old, broken and dirty. The garden was a complete mess - there was broken furniture pushed into a corner and there were old plates left out which was surprising as the pub was completely empty so seemed odd they hadn't been tidied away. We then went up to order our food and the group was told that if we wanted to order food then we'd have to move tables because the lady behind the bar (who i assume along with the man behind the bar were the managers) said she didn't want to bring the food all the way out to our table outside - this really added to the unwelcoming feeling of the pub! The table outside was probably about 20 feet away from the door of the pub so it seemed odd to make out it was so difficult. We decided to settle up our tab and leave without ordering any food and instead got a cab to another pub a short drive away which was lovely.

Great place! Having been through a lot of owners/tenants recently the new Team here really do seem to have customers and good quality food at their heart! Great Sunday Lunch and great Saturday Afternoon late lunch.

Absolute gem of a cafe. Delicious food and the personal service really makes it a special visit. Keep going back as I'm always made to feel welcome and can't beat the food. Reasonably priced as well. Can't recommend enough!

We dined here on a Friday night and both the pub and Thai restaurant was busy (which is a great thing to see in a small village). The service was attentive from both the pub (they serve the drinks) and restaurant staff. The Thai meal was fantastic, super aromatic and flavoursome. We had the fish cakes and honey pork, if choosing again I would drop the pork but the fish cakes were delicious. For mains (portion sizes are large, one would have been sufficient) we had E Sarn chicken and sea bass with a panag sauce. Ho my days was the fish good! We had a side of sticky rice and broccoli (enough for 3 people) Highly recommended! Looking forward to going back.

Lovely, homely pub! Hayley is an amazing host who goes above and beyond for the customers, it feels like you are speaking with a friend. Couldn’t recommend this pub enough, the food is lovely, the atmosphere makes you feel at home and prices are very reasonable.
