Quite simply the very best chinese takeaway tasted in all my years - twice
Two separate orders on different days and both were wonderful. Not mass produced and quantity over quality.
Just the right amount for one or two either way - thank you
Nothing golden about this place anymore, since new ownership the quality has slipped astronomically. Missing item in order, refused to deliver them up the road. Dry and inedible if you ask me, no good Chinese in Hythe anymore. New wok in cheriton is the only place to go for good Chinese in our opinion.
Poor repair, toilets often out of use - and they smell. The outside of the place looks derelict and the inside is only a little better. Beware the car park as you will automatically get a ticket if there for more than 90 mins as I was with the lady that I care for. Being disabled she does not move quickly and can often refuse to move at all, but the people in charge of the car park don't care at all.
There are many places to drink or snack in the town - why on earth would you stop here!
We ordered a 4 part meal. There was no part that could be enjoyed. The egg fried rice was lacking egg and looked like porridge, the noodle dish was 90+% greasy noodles, 3% rubbery, tasteless chicken and 7% other tasteless stuff - oh and other were 2 small shrimps.
We should have known better when we saw the prices which were too cheap for anything but basic budget food.
This has got to be the worst Chinese take away my partner and l have ever tried to eat. I ordered roast pork chow mein. The pork was fatty lumps. My husband ordered beef, ginger, spring onions. The beef was tough and stringy. However the worst thing was the pancake roll which was blackened and burnt. How can food sold be this bad? Why would you serve it? What a shame we will never go back and will tell everyone we know how really bad it was.
The venue and staff were perfect.
Booked the venue for a celebration of life and the staff and owner could not have done more to make the event perfect.
The venue has had a fantastic refurbishment and is incredibly well presented.
If you're looking for a lovely setting where you are really looked after from start to finish you could not find better.
🌟 A Sunday Roast to Remember at The May Fly! 🌟
If you're craving the ultimate Sunday comfort food, look no further than The May Fly pub – a hidden gem that delivers big on flavour, warmth, and hearty portions. I recently popped in for their famous Sunday roast, and let me tell you: it was pure joy on a plate.
The star of the show? The gammon – beautifully glazed, tender, and packed with that rich, smoky-sweet flavour that just melts in your mouth. Each slice was thick and juicy, perfectly cooked and full of soul-satisfying goodness.
And let’s talk about the Yorkshire pudding – golden, towering, and delightfully crisp on the outside with a fluffy center that soaked up the rich gravy like a dream. It was everything a proper Yorkshire pud should be and then some!
The roast itself came with a generous helping of perfectly roasted potatoes, seasonal veg that still had bite, and lashings of rich, savoury gravy that tied the whole plate together.
The atmosphere was cosy and inviting, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the portions were generous without being overwhelming. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The May Fly is the kind of place that turns a lazy Sunday into a full-on feast.
Do yourself a favour – book a table, bring your appetite, and prepare to fall in love with one of the best roasts in town. 🥂🍽️

I went for the chicken wrap thinking with the additional salad and chips it would hit the spot. I was expecting chunks of chicken, bit of red onion, cucumber, tomato and refreshing Tzatziki sauce. When I opened the sealed wrap it was barely warm, aneamic, I had to hunt for the 3 slices of cucumber, 2 bits of tomato and 4 fries! There was no red onion and the sauce had zero flavour. The chicken was like scrapings of kebab chicken and hardly any in it! Not worth £11.50 at all, hugely disappointed and wish I'd gone for the jacket potato with filling for £5.50 at the neighbouring stall. Will never eat at this stall again.
