Golden Bowl Takeaway in Shepway

Nothing golden about this place anymore, since new ownership the quality has slipped astronomically. Missing item in order, refused to deliver them up the road. Dry and inedible if you ask me, no good Chinese in Hythe anymore. New wok in cheriton is the only place to go for good Chinese in our opinion.

Chicken balls and chicken in the rice definitely needs improvement, the chicken balls are like rubber balls, basically inedible. Chicken in the rice is also tough, suspect it’s extremely poor quality chicken or frozen or pre-cooked which is wrong for the price you pay. Restaurant also smells of old oil. No prawn crackers unless u spend £20, I will not be coming back.

Absolutely amazing, got a take away after a late shift on Saturday and couldn’t think what to order so i asked the lady on the phone to choose a chicken dish with chilli and a veg chow mien. Well i’ve never used them before and i was so impressed! The chicken was delicious, not sure what it was but ill be going again! Friendly staff too

Takeaway for two, chicken awful, dry and pork just the same. Food tasted as if it had been left under a heat lamp. With so many other Chinese takeaways in Hythe, no point in wasteing your money and digestion here.

We have used the Golden Bowl for decades and have always found the food delicious. We have used Chens Garden recently as they deliver but decided to collect from Golden Bowl for a change. We'll that was a mistake. We had heard it had changed hands and we had also heard mixed reviews recently but due to the many years of good food we had confidence. We had several different mains plus chips, rice and prawn crackers. Everything, except the chips (which weren't great but were edible), ended up in the bin. It was disgusting. Thick stodgy bland and tasteless. Literally unpleasant to eat. Even the prawn crackers weren't crisp and tasted of old cooking oil. We shared the chips and then got the cornflakes out! Maybe a one off but there is so much choice in Hythe we will be sticking with Chens in the future.

We have been regular users of this takeaway for the last 20+ years and have always been impressed by the quality and value of the food from the Golden Bowl. Unfortunately on this occasion our loyalty was not rewarded. Despite Visa signs being displayed, I was told that I had to pay with cash. The foodl arrived promptly but when we got it home, we were distinctly underwhelmed by the quality, The sweet and sour chicken balls were like battered rubber and totally inedible. Beef chop suey consisted of beef and masses of bean sprouts but no other vegetables in a tomato-based sauce, My bbq spare ribs were dried out and unappetising and the singapore noodles were bland and overcooked. The only dish we had which was up to the Golden Bowl's normal high standard was the mixed veg curry, I very much hope that this experience was a "one-off" as this is our "go-to" Chinese takeaway.

We couldn't fault the takeaway!!! Crispy Duck was excellent, shrimp curry lemon chicken and Singapore noodles. All brilliant . Thank you

I decided to visit this takeaway whilst on holiday & am so pleased that I did, I ordered a king prawn curry with egg fried rice from the friendly lady at the counter, I had my credit card in my hand to pay as that's what most places prefer you to use these days, but was told cash only & paid via a jug that you put the money in & are given your change in the same way, they are seriously following Covid 19 guidelines. I took a seat taking in all those lovely aromas in the air, and in no time at all my meal was brought out to me from a very friendly looking man, when I got back to my accommodation after a short drive, the meal was absolutely delicious, the rice was light & airy, the curry sauce was so thick unlike most places these days where many resemble water with no real flavour, plus the amount of prawns was astounding as I normally get 4 or 5 & the rest is alive with onion, but not this one as I must of had 9 or even 10 of them & all full of flavour, with only 2 small pieces of onion, an unbelievably tasty meal for the price paid & only wish it were my local Chinese takeaway, the local people are SO lucky that live nearby, thank you so much!!

Been a customer of the Golden Bowl to get a takeaway for years now, great tasting food every time never disappoints. Great value for money and very friendly. Always fresh, never greasy or cold.

decided to not cook on way home stopped of for small chinese ,can get half portions of some food if eating for one even better,enjoyed delish.

BUT an amazing takeaway it was gorgeous plenty of meat and veggies in it all definitely value for money and would go again

We ordered a two person meal, but when we got home and started eating it, this was not a great take away. Rather dry and over cooked, the rice seemed to have been around for a long time and re-heated. Did not finish it, the local fox eat most of this meal.

So glad that we discovered the Golden Bowl in Hythe. Delicious authentic Chinese food. Now becoming a regular Friday evening visit

Just had a really great meal tonight. Sweet n Sour King Prawn - lovely Schezuapn mixed veg - great Plain noodles - yummy Pork and mushrooms - pork tender and thick sliced. Mushrooms lovely.

Earlier collected a meal from this establishment. I had ordered duck with plum sauce. Took it home and discovered that I had got duck with pineapple. I was not overly concerned by that but it tasted as if the cook had spilled the salt cellar into it. It was inedible. 10 minutes after tasting two mouthfuls my mouth still tastes as if I had rinsed it with salt water. My wife would not eat it and neither could I. I telephoned the Golden Bowl to complain and ask them to provide the correct item but without the excessive salt. They suggested that duck with plum sauce was duck with pineapple with the plum sauce underneath and that the problem with the excessive amount of salt was due to my taste rather than a fault with the meal. They offered to replace the food but refused to deliver it. I took the food to 2 other people to taste to confirm that there was a real problem with the food and they both concluded that it was disgusting and inedible. One wanted to rinse out her mouth after tasting it. I returned the food and had to argue that the rice was part of the meal and that I should get a refund on all of it. They did not want to refund the cost of the rice that was also returned to them. Eventually I got a full refund. I found the lady who dealt with me to be arrogant and rude. They have lost a customer.

Used this takeaway a few times now since moving to Hythe. The food has been freshly cooked and tasty and the wait is normally not very long. We've had the chilli honey king prawns, king prawns with tomato, salt n pepper bean curd and hong kong king prawns with both veg mixed rice and egg friend rice. We will certainly be using again. It always seems busy so need to pick your order times as it seems very busy later in the evening.

I have used this takeaway od off for many years, but this was the worst, food undercooked and I was the only one in there. Eat here at your peril, better down the road.

Chicken balls were chewy, stale and inedible! Took them back, owner was unapologetic & denied blame, instead blamed a bad batch of chicken - why are they serving bad chicken? She told me any fresh chicken balls would be the same outcome so got money back. Disgusting.

A lovely take-away meal from Golden Bowl. Traditional Chinese take-away. Would recommend beef in black bean sauce. Good crunchy vegetables-obviously freshly prepared. Try it!

Nicely priced , easy to park and friendly staff , always good food , plentiful portions , you can see your food being cooked which is always a bonus , thank you

Use the Golden Bowl for a takeaway. Only draw back is that they don't deliver. We have been disappointed with the food although do tend to order the same meal for 2.

Muy contentos con este para llevar, tenía dos veces y las dos veces fueron muy sabrosa. Los gustos de comida fresca y no grasosa. Los platos son de excelente salsa bean negro junto con el pato. Llevar son bien presentada y la espera está a la derecha. Sin duda volver

Hemos visitado esta llevar varias veces a través de los años, pero tengo que decir que la calidad tiene mala calidad! I le concede que el contenido eran algo pesada y frescas verduras y grandes precios de carne en el especial Chow mein y el pato en salsa alubias negras, pero como es habitual no había sabor, muy sosa . No cabe duda de que no es la mejor, comida para 2 era mala todo sabía de amarga mantequilla. No regresaré mejor comida para llevar chinos alrededor

He visitado el Golden Bowl durante 20 años. La comida es de una calidad excelente, con una gran variedad de elección. Siempre conseguirás una recepción agradable cuando se visita.

Excellent little take away in the centre of Hythe. Prompt services along with some of the best Chinese dishes I've ever tasted. The rice just floats in your mouth.

If you are looking for a nice little Chinese Takeaway in Hythe its a good place to go, the prices are really reasonable and their duck pancakes are lovely

Liked food, always is good. Disliked price. Rather expensive. Still it is the best Chinese in Hythe, but only a takeaway.

This is a well known take away, which on a Friday night is always full.The food is typical Chinese with no frills, but good value.Never had a problem, eaten food from here many, many times.

I bought chicken balls and rice etc. I have been up all night being sick and this morning. My boyfriend was sick last time but assumed it was a bug so gave it another try. I won't be going back again obviously.

Reasonably priced for a very varied menu. Good size portions all freshly cooked to order and extremely tasty. We eat from here regularly and have tried the other local Chinese takeaways but none are as good. Unfortunately they don't deliver but worth going to collect.
