Golden Wok Chinese Takeaway in Shepway

I have ordered from the golden wok before and it was ok this time ordered a meal of salted chilli chicken , but you just couldn’t swallow the chicken it was hard and stringy and apart from the taste of salt there was no flavour I also ordered the November offer which was the same very little sauce on the chicken and the chicken was so chewy we had to give up , the rice was brown and sticky had a really weird taste off it , we ended up eating chips and prawn crackers , I’m sorry to have to write such a bad review but would rather save someone else waste £21.00 won’t be going back x

Ordered pork balls but they cooked chicken by mistake they used Crap cheap pork ib pork balls the beef with broccoli only had 2 tiny bits of broccoli can't recommend anymore the cheap meat is disgusting

Changed hands, not so good. Dripping in grease and tasteless. Used to be my favourite! 😢

Used a few times now over the years & have never had an issue, food has always been nice & not too expensive either you get what you pay for, I like that if you go there yourself you can see the kitchen area it's not hidden from customers

Had lots of beautiful meals so went back,food still tastes ok but dry and I mean really dry,used to be so good now after that I'm never going to use them again 😭. It was that bad I had to throw it straight in the garbage.

My local. Always fast and tasty. Normally I'll order the Bachelors' Special: Beef Chow Mein. They do it good, and if you ask for hot you get it hot. I also order Capital Ribs, which is really Spare Ribs with Capital Sauce. I recommend this to rib lovers. But tonight instead of ribs I ordered Chicken Satay Skewers. Although this is a Thai dish, they excelled. I also recommend!

Best by far, was so tasty and had massive portion! I'll definitely order from there again the delivery guy was lovely too gave him a little tip and then got my food out to find I had 2 lots of free food 😋👌

Update nov 23 After getting meat instead of vegetable spring rolls last time, spoke to them about it and ordered vegetable spring rolls again. Girl took order and checked with the cooks that they were vegetable rolls. Got them home and found they'd given me meat ones again!!! Absolute ☆☆☆☆ing idiots! Update Nov 23. Tried again. Food OK but all underseasoned, rice, tofu, and chow mein. Had to add alot of soy sauce to taste. CAUTION! IF VEGETARIAN. ORDERED VEGETABLE SPRING ROLLS AND WAS GIVEN CHICKEN!! Very unhelpful and not bothered when phoned to complain .just dropped from 3 star to 1! Reasonably priced food. Cooked quickly front of house which is always reassuring. Food was ok. Not the best but definately not the worst. If anything was slightly under seasoned and a bit bland. Tofu in black bean was ok again slightly bland. Satay chicken was ok but sauce a bit greasy. Not first choice but would use again if necessary

Food was good originally when it first opened the lady was rude and delivery driver would not come up to my flat and said to me GET DOWN TO CARPARK in a demanding way so I ignored him 1 hour later he phoned me to say he was in carpark still he was the owners son I think when I said I don't want it he ran up stairs giving me a lot of obscenity abuse

best in Folkestone town. Very big sized portions good for the price. The meat is just how you want it!! quick delivery, the young girl, delivery driver was so lovely and polite she put the cherry on the cake. Definitely will be ordering again, thank you

I've used golden wok for about 2 year's now will not be using them again prices gone up 2 times this year and portions have got smaller and smaller takeaway's are just taking the piss now

Ordered delivery. Figured I'd try a new place. My plate was an overture of beige. The flavours were so absent in my meal, it reminded me of having COVID-19. Avoid.

Used this takeaway restaurant in the past, when newly opened and it was OK. We received a new menu through our door and thought that we would try it again, we have a tried and tested takeaway, but they have put prices up and made a few cuts. However,after what we received tonight, I'd rather starve! What was delivered were containers of pure glupe. Shame coz meat content was OK veggies were scarce, but all just completely drowned in far too much sauce. I ordered szechuan pork, but got pork in Capital sauce and not spicy at all and extremely glupy. We ordered house special fried rice, ie. With mixed meat and veggies only to find it drowned in tasteless brown sauce, not a white grain of rice anywhere to be seen or veggies either really. Other dishes where chicken and broccoli in garlic sauce, which was OK, but the special rice noodles had been drowned again in this tasteless sauce. Freebies coz our order was over 25.00 were mini spring rolls, which were more pastry than filling. Will not be going back ever. This was appalling, how could they make good ingredients taste so bad!!!

Delivery and service very good but the food was a poor standard. In the past, the food was great, but the spring rolls were filled with onion, no bean sprouts and little else, fatty and soggy; the crispy squid was soggy and covered with too much batter but it was spicy at least; the crispy pork had crispy batter, but the pork was hardly to be seen. Great if you love onion as there was plenty of that. Pity, because I feel let let down this time, when it has been much better in the past. I'll wait to see if the reviews improve before ordering again.

Really bad. You have to worry when your meal starts off with a bad pancake roll, but this wasn’t good at all, mainly filled with over cooked cabbage, very mushy. Mixed balls were all heavy set dough balls with little filling, sweat & sour sauce was forgotten. Salt & chilli prawns were adequate, grilled dumplings were the only saving grace - very nice. Seaweed all oil retention, suggesting fryer wasn’t up to temp at time of cooking and all absorbed, then coated with so much sugar, (I’ve never left a seaweed behind) also was devoid of any grated scallop roe. My question of how you ruin a …..? was then poised again with one of the most tasteless chicken chow meins I have had the misfortune of encountering. Chop suey was swimming in sweet & sour sauce as apposed to lightly wok tossed, black bean curd was stewed as appose to corn starch coated and fried off. Braved some of the apps, binned the balls & all the mains - tragic. Will never order from again

We buy several different dishes every visit and not always the same ones. Every time is great. Full of flavour not just salty or MSG overload. Always hot and very helpful staff. 5/5 always.

We only have takeaways now and then from Golden Woc. And the food is always really tasty. Best we have had. But we have stuck to this one for over 2 years.ß

Chinese food is arguably one of the best cuisines in the world, but unfortunately most Chinese takeaways in this country bear little resemblance to this excellent cuisine. This is due to maximising profit at the expense of quality. The meal here was atrocious, mediocre cooking, substandard ingredients and little creativity. The chicken is obviously frozen and like rubber with no taste, the deep frying is just oil in the product and soggy and too much MSG. I have nothing against MSG. It is a vegetarian, taste enhancer and all or most Asian chefs use it but this actually upset me here and causes hallucinations if used incorrectly. It is such a shame that this place could be so much better if a little bit of flair were to be used and the menu cut down, they obviously work very hard but please more creativity and some vegetables pak Chou or Choi sum. I shall have to try the Asian restaurant in Bouverie Rd West that is very popular but I will not order from GW again

2nd time we have had a takeaway from here and it WILL be the last. By the time I dished the rice and noodles up it was cold, the Prawn toasties and chicken balls were so greasy all you can taste is the fat it was fried in... Was offered discount next time but I won't return,asked for a refund to be told NO.

Usually great food, however tonight it was a disaster over an hour fir delivery. chicken was dry. rice was hard.

Food freshly cooked to order, really tasty and lots of choice. Also deliver but don't accept card payments.

Read some unflattering reviews.... I have never had a bad experience here, only the best so far and have used them enough for them to know our address from what we usually order lol.

I don’t even live in folkestone and this is by far the best chinese i’ve ever had. Collected it in folkestone and drove an hour and a half back to home to eat it and it’s changed my life. forever.

The bin is the best thing for this! Only food edible was the crispy duck which had two very large bones in it and little meat and the prawn crackers. The beef in black bean sauce was like rubber only tougher and the sauce was like brown wallpaper paste. The chicken chop suey was again like rubber and in a disgusting thick sticky sauce. The special fried rice was certainly special in that it was grey full of lumps ...never again back to The Taste of China

Normally love this food but last 2 times has been very disappointing sauce lumpy as in congealed.Ribs thick with fat.Wont be using again

Just ordered a takeaway.. very dissatisfied. My king prawn balls were not fresh, the batter was chewy and so were the prawns inside..seems like they were cooked yesterday and thrown in the fryer to refresh. The prawn toast was the same and egg fried rice was hard. It's valentine's Day and thought it would be nice to have a takeaway...wish I didn't bother. I'm surprised as I was sure it would be fresh as it's valentine's Day and there would be a lot of orders! Use to like there food but this has really put me off and I won't be ordering there again. If the owner is reading this then my only advice is ... don't cut corners because in the long run you will loose customers and your business will struggle.

Greasy and hard rice, first and last time

The quality of food can fluctuate from the Golden Wok it was better when they first opened not sure if they have been victims of their own success. I was appalled at the food when we ordered a take away for delivery over the weekend, I ordered the vegetable pancake rolls and they were delivered stone cold.

We have never had a bad meal. Fresh, hot and delicious. Highly recommended! This is a take away.... always and on time.

Great spring rolls, rice and satay... But the chilli sauce was diluted with vinegar as was the sweet n sour. Raw chunks of pepper chucked in with the sauce dishes.... Won't order again.. The easy things were awful

Our normal take away has been closed since the recent 'stay at home' guidelines and we wanted that type of food and found the Golden Wok OPEN. We ordered and collected food within 15 minutes. We found the food quite enjoyable and would happily go back given this recent plandemic. Just one thing to note they only take cash. Hope this helps.

i have used this restaurant many time before, often making allowances for different culture having different views on hygiene. But won't use it again, ordered Kung Pao from there recently and frankly some of the veg (guessing chestnut) must have been off as the dinner tasted as if urine had been sprinkled on it. Very expensive but couldn't eat any of it. Shame as location ideal. Will definitely never use again!Going back to fish & chips.

Hit and miss poor curry mix like a sweet syrup ruined my meal waste of money

After many great meals tonight was well below par the curry sauce was like a sweet syrup and made the dinner uneatable must do better golden wok

Very disappointed, Singapore chow mein very bland and not at all spicy, pineapple and chicken rice was tasteless, childrens chopsticks were hopeless, very bendy, even I couldn't pick food up with them, the prawn crackers were stale, on the plus side, the soup, chicken spring rolls and spare ribs were nice.

Ordered many times and sometimes hit and miss with bits but have continued to order as only lived here for a year. this time the order was wrong and it was a battle to get the real dish ordered and new chips as they were also nearly cold. They seemed in no rush to get it to me. Won’t be ordering again that’s for sure. Very poor customer service. Delivery man is brilliant though

Golden Wok is my favourite take away Chinese in the area. The food is always fresh and tasty and not greasy. Just one ongoing gripe. You can't pay by card for delivery meaning that you need cash to hand. Not necessarily a problem apart from the extremely rude delivery driver. Trying to get change from him is painful! To avoid conflict today we made sure that we had the exact change ready but this was met with an equally rude response. Tipping when you are already paying a premium for a better quality Chinese is surely at the customers discretion. We have tipped him before but he was unimpressed with this too as it obviously wasnt enough. Maybe restaurant needs to pay a fair wage so he doesn't rely on customers tips.

our normal takeaway was closed for holidays so we checked tripadvisor for somewhere else and tried here as it had good reviews. Normally a reliable guide, not this time.The sweet and sour chicken balls were more like doughnuts with tiny pieces of chicken inside, the crispy shreded chilli beef tasted gritty as if there was sand in it and the chow main was swimming in grease. The complimentary prawn crackers were stale. Will be crossing this off our list.

We had a very tasty meal. One of the best in long time. Generous portions of meat and not too much liquid. We would highly recommend this take away.

Good clean food, fast delivery and good price.

Having lived in Folkestone for more than 32 years we have experienced many Chinese takeaways.Last night, 6 of us ordered a selection of dishes and were surprised at how quickly it was delivered.The food was perfectly cooked, was very tasty and the portions were very generous.We were unanimous in agreeing that it was definitely the best Chinese meal that we had eaten in a long time!

Lovely food. You get fortune cookies, as well. Very good deals on take away menu. The only thing I was not impressed, were the ways of the delivery driver, who tried to kiss me, haha. It was only a half joke. It's a shame.

First time takeaway from this little Chinese. Not having a menu we went and we're surprised at how clean it looked and the lady serving was very nice and friendly. Food can be viewed being cooked fresh to order. Our only problem was our lemon chicken was overcooked and a bit chewey otherwise a nice meal and we will use them again.

We had our first meal from the GW delivered last night. We are not actually in Folkestone but an outlying village, so very pleased that the food arrived piping hot. It was DELICIOUS. We have lived in the area five years, wish we hadn't waited so long.

My daughter has bought a house around the corner and she moved in yesterday. No one wanted to cook so we chose to give this a try.We had a real mixture of dishes and all were great particularly the seasame prawn toast!!Everything was hot so no complaints.We will use this again as soon as possible.

We found this takeaway whilst looking on trip advisor there was only one review but it was good enough for us to try .I have to say the food was excellent &amp; plenty of it what a find!!!! will defiantly be using the golden wok again thank you very much delicious food

Decided to try this recently opened takeaway the other evening and am really pleased that we did.The food was delicious, portions were generous and all very reasonably priced.The staff were very friendly and helpful and everything about the takeaway itself was new and spotlessly clean.A brilliant new Chinese Takeaway in Folkestone that we would be pleased to recommend.
