Really lovely pub, relaxed atmosphere, very exciting menu filled with interesting dishes and very well priced. Our children were welcomed and also loved their lunch. Lovely staff all doing great work. Thank you and I apologise we didn’t realise the tip wasn’t included, we will come back!
To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.
Such a splendid place for a great lunch... we were so impressed that we went on two consecutive days! The first lunch was a stunningly good steak and ale pie. Lovely service and
lovely food...and the temptation was there to return for a Sunday roast.... Romney lamb a great vegetable selection and apple crumble for dessert.
Very caring service and highly recommended.
Th establishment also houses a rather splendid butchers shop and an excellent delicatessen, both of which we've sampled and would highly recommend.
Wonderful
Always enjoy going to see these guys they treat you with respect and have great service, their vindaloo I ordered was on point as it should be, very hot but not losing its taste, amazing work loved it!!!
We were an extended family of ten.We are regulars as we live nearby and in the past have generally been satisfied but unfortunately things did not go well today.
We ordered drinks but they took half an hour to arrive.
The meal choices had been given some time previously giving the names of who was ordering what but clearly the staff were totally unaware. They arrived with two starters but didn’t know who they were for.We had to struggle to remember what we had chosen weeks ago. Then another two arrived.Eventually there were still two starters outstanding but the time they arrived everyone else had finished.Exactly the same happened with the main courses and the wine that was supposed to go with the mains was so late in coming that we rejected it as no longer required. My main of salmon was very poor as it was fishy, overcooked and dry. This service shambles was repeated with the desserts.
We complained to the manager who cancelled the service charge on the bill and reduced the drinks prices by 50% but this did not compensate for the disappointment on a special occasion.
We like to come to this hotel but the quality of the food and service has to improve and they must recognise that patrons on the same table must all receive their food at the same time. This is fundamental restaurant procedure.
We have already previously booked for New Year’s Eve so this is going to be make or break as to whether we and all our friends and acquaintances maintain their custom at this hotel.
We visited here twice on a recent visit to Rye, once for lunch and once for brunch - friendly service and excellent food. Cooked breakfast delicious and happy to add/remove items as requested.
Worst Chinese I've ever had dumplings dry and deffently really old and rank, the dipping sause for them is just malt vinegar with some ginger thrown on top. Duck with fresh mango was like jelly and rated rancid friends chow main was OK apparently
Positives - Free parking (provided you remember to check in at the bar on arrival). Warm welcome.
Dog friendly.
Good value drinks.
Had only intended to stop for a quick drink on the way home, but ordered a takeaway fish & chips from the pub side before we left (2 cod & 1 x large chips).
All cooked to perfection.
For info, large chips does actually mean large portion!).
Less positives - Quite chilly in the bar, and only two other customers in the time we were there, which was probably 1 1/2 hours.
Hopefully, The Royal Oak will gain more support and customers as winter turns to spring, and can avoid having to close like 2 other pubs close by in Lamberhurst.
Attached to The Weald Smokery, the Kiln Room is an excellent place to drop into for either a drink and/or a snack. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a good choice of snacks on the menu; special diets can be accommodated.
I came with a friend he had cod and chips which he said was delicious. I had Classic burger and chips and onion rings we had 2 lattes. I paid the bill. When I got home and checked my banking app I saw I had paid £32.90. I thought this very expensive for what we had. When I looked at the menu on line I saw that the burgers come without chips and I coudnt find how much they were. So either the waiter made a genuine mistake and thought we had other items or he decided to stitch me up. The food was very nice and the next time I will ask for a receipt so I can check the bill.
