I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

Food OK. Service great to start then once food arrives non existent!! No offer of more drinks or dessert menu. Missing the chance to sell more. Decor very dated & not family friendly no baby change facilities available, wouldn't take much to install a changing table on the wall 🤷‍♀️. Finally no one brought the bill could so easily have walked out without paying but we wouldn't do that as a family. Paid at the bar on the way out after waiting for the no service available. Such a shame as this was our first visit & will also be the last!

The photo does not truly represent the dark grimey sticky tables. The pub was dirty, dingy and frankly a disgrace. The menu was all over the place, Thai, Spanish, Greek, British. The bread served with the starters was fresh and hot, as was the vegetables served with a main course. Very disappointing.Would not return.

Having driven past this pub many times we were intrigued to see the inside and sample the cuisine. My husband and I both had the roast lamb. The yorkshire pudding and potatoes were both processed and the meat was similar to a boil in the bag product in watery gravy. A strange menagerie of side vegetables were served in a red water including soggy peppers and courgettes. We had previously been offered ‘Left over Greek Night’ starters so presumed that’s what these were. One of our teenage children had ordered a ‘curry’ after being assured by the waitress that he could request that it be ‘mild’ but unfortunately it was very spicy and he found it inedible. The other teenager ordered a ‘plain’ cheese burger meal when the burger arrived it had a spicy sauce on it, he was so hungry he just ate it. The five year old had scampi chips and peas which was a perfect size portion for him and the ‘kids meal’ menu represented good value with three courses for £8.50, although he wasn’t offered a starter. I opted out of ordering dessert at an overpriced £8. My husband took a chance and had an apple crumble which was floating in a watery custard. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, practically tripping over each other to serve us, but the food was disappointingly poor. £120 in total 🥲. We sadly won’t be returning anytime soon.

Everything was ok, we have dined at the restaurant before and it was very good, the young lady serving was very professional and good at her job. BUT! Unfortunately the food was mediocre to say the least which I accepted however to speed up our exit I chose to pay at the bar, this is where the saga ensued. Embarrassingly i presented my debit card which was declined, after being told this in front of a busy bar I tried to pay again with the same result. The young lady, obviously feeling uncomfortable then suggested the internet was the problem and left the bar to check with the manager, she then returned and said the router was an issue and started unplugging it and trying to reset ( all the time the audience taking interest. Then FINALLY the manager appeared, engrossing the crowd further, out of pure frustration I suggested I pay the bill with same card via bank transfer and asked the owner/manger to enter his bank details in to my phone so I could prove that I had funds to pay for my partner meal and leave. Exactly the same card, paid the bill n full, bloody joke as the owner/manager offered not a penny of discount for the embarrassment. Mediocre and overpriced!!

I was treated to a birthday lunch at this lovely pub. The welcome from the staff was warm and friendly and the service was prompt but not overpowering (no-one said 'enjoy!' or kept coming to ask if everything was all right). It was just perfect with a lovely ambience, no noisy music, lovely and warm on a beastly cold wet day with a roaring fire. The food was just superb, exceptionally well presented and generous portions. As a vegetarian I often find the veggie dishes are a bit of an afterthought. Not so here and I sent my compliments to the chef. The nut burger was the best I had ever tasted. My friend and I both decided to add The Denbigh to our 'favourites' list and to recommend a visit to others. We could not fault anything at all and the whole experience was perfect.

The staff were very nice so no worries there. The fish and chips were the most awful I have ever had. The pub is near the sea yet the fish was clearly months in the freezer. The flesh had no substance. The thin coat of batter was only just cooked, sloppy and no crispness. The chips were also slightly undercooked and the mushy peas clearly from a tin. The meatballs were swimming in fat. Given the good reputation of this pub I was very disappointed and won't be returning in a hurry.

Went here for a meet up with friends, Ordered fish and chips which was tasty but small portion, served with french fries which is unusual but they tasted ok, the peas could have had a little longer in the water. The desserts are not homemade according to the waitress (apart from the cheesecake) so at £7.90 are too expensive. We didn't order any for that reason. My friend did have the cheesecake it was tiny and definitely not value for money. Overall, a lovely evening with the company, the service was a bit slow as there were only 3 tables eating and doubt I will return but that's purely for value for money. Ending on a positive - my friend enjoyed the duck salad and it did look good.

Went for Sunday lunch (or not)! We booked a table with the owner, but when we arrived there was no booking. The waitress just said ‘oh well I’ll find a table’. She showed us to the table and asked what drinks we wanted. When she brought the drinks over she also gave us some menus. We then sat there and sat there and no waitress came to take our order. The waitress who gave us the menus walked past us and looked over many times, but did not take any order. Our booking was for 4pm and there was only four other tables in the pub so they were not busy at all. The waitress was small and blond and has worked at the pub for some time, as we have seen her when doing the quiz etc. A man on the next table called the same waitress over to him (he had also been waiting a long time) and ordered a dessert. The waitress looked at us, saw the menus on the table and said nothing to us. We thought she might be back in a few minutes - how wrong we were! What she actually did was bring her own food out to the bar!!!! After 30 minutes of waiting we gave up, paid for our drinks and walked out. The most appalling service we have ever had. We live very near the pub. We always do the quiz, have eaten there before and often go for a drink there. I am sorry to say we will not use the pub again. Please get some staff who care about customer service and can organise the pub in the owners absence.

Beef was tender and tasty. Puddings consisted of banoffee pie, chocolate brownie and Portuguese tart, all demolished, so we all enjoyed! Eaten here before and always enjoyed, and will return again. Only downside today was service was slow. I’d say a good 25 minutes between our food order being taken and it arriving. We were not in a rush but would have preferred to have not waited so long. However first time this has happened eating here so either due to being busy or maybe understaffed today?

Firstly NO Track and Trace in place when three of us visited the Denbigh .I have been coming to this pub for fourteen years , although not on a regular basis. And unfortunately my last visit made me feel that everything needs updating. From the carpet and decor, which neither has changed in that time . To the menu which is the same as it was a good couple of years back . The service is very slow, not in a relaxed way but inefficient and the food, although ok is now just average. Which is a real shame . The table where we ate indoors had food on the floor, and as the pub was not busy I think that should have been noticed and dealt with. This pub is alright for a pint in the garden but doubt I will be eating there again . Think maybe the owners need to add a little organisation and structure into their business and bring it back to the standard it used to be

We went to the Denbigh for lunch. There were six of us and we had prebooked. We arrived at 12.30pm and were shown to our table. Waited 45 min for someone to come and take the drinks and food order. The drinks arrived aster 25mins and then 10 min after that the food arrived. The cutlery and serviettes were in a glass on the table which were jammed in so tight that when one of us tried to get a serviette out of the glass tipped over and broke. Someone came to clear it up and stated that it always happens. Lessons to be learned perhaps.Someone came to give us more cutlery and had the cutlery in a pouch in her apron and she took the cutlery out of the pouch and gave it to all of us with bare hands. In view of the current Covid 19 pandemic how this can be hygienic on any level is beyond us.One of the party ordered chicken curry and when it arrived contained an extremely large bone which clearly had to have been there at the very beginning of the curry preparation.Someone came to clear our table when two of our party were still eating which is rude if nothing else.Another wait of 20 mins before someone came and asked us if we wanted to order desserts. When we ordered the deserts we also ordered two drinks which never arrived.Another 20 mins before the desserts arrived and then we had to wait again for cutlery to be brought.Asked for the bill to pay and waited another 15 min before the bill came.Overall the customer service was non existent. The Denbigh is currently only one of two pubs open in the Little Common area, as The Wheatsheaf is undergoing refurbishment. Whilst a long established pub, the interior of the Denbigh is small, cozy and welcoming. However, the same cannot be said of the restaurant, as you have to go up 4 very steep stairs to reach it and the decor is very poor. The menu offering is limited, (as you might expect) with a special promotion 'Sausage Week' currently on offer. The food was quite good - flavour and presentation wise, but not exceptional. The service is not great either - no offer of dessert or coffee, we were just left with the dirty plates for a time - so honestly I would think twice before I go back there. If the revamped Wheatsheaf opens with a decent food service, the Denbigh will be the first to notice a downturn in its restaurant business.

Called in yesterday with my husband. Didn’t want a big meal so we ordered the mixed Ploughman’s and a Pork, stuffing and apple sandwich on a baguette.. Food arrived after waiting longer than expected for the very simple food ordered, plus it wasn’t busy. Ploughman’s looked lovely. The smell of mine wasn’t very nice. I open my sandwich to find what I can only call disgusting . The meat looked like supermarket pre packed pork wafer thin slices that had clearly been microwaved! It was dark, shrivelled and full of fat. It really was disgusting. I called the owner over( tall very slim lady) and showed her. She looked in astonishment and apologised stating she would re new it. I requested I didn’t want the same and I would have the same mixed ploughman’s as my husband., and pay the difference. She said she wouldn’t charge me anymore. I waited once again a while longer. When the food arrived, there was a tiny piece of cheese and no coleslaw. The pickled onions were dark brown and slimy. I ate what I could and left the rest. The lady came over once I had finished and asked if everything was ok with the replacement. I told her about items missing so she said she would discount our bill too. When we paid the bill, as well as only charging for a pork sandwich instead of a ploughman’s, and then giving a 30% discount, this makes me wonder how they survive. Yes, financially it was to our advantage( although our lunchtime treat was a disadvantage with the disappointment of the quality of food served) This pub looks great from the outside, very “ with it “ and welcoming. Inside is old, the toilets were dirty and had a musty smell, tables were wiped down with a dry cloth and spray bottle. Not your good old fashioned clean soapy water, hence why the table mats stuck to the sticky dirty tables. This pub could be so much more with dedicated owners and staff with a passion to serve good quality food and cleanliness. Unfortunately, I won’t be going again

I was invited by two elderly ladies who are neighbours and had frequented The Denbigh previously. It was a good recommendation. It appears that the menu changes regularly since having downloaded the menu, the menu offered today was different. An excellent choice of Mains which should cater for all tastes from Steak, Roast to Penang Curry. The portions were very generous, very hot plates, separate vegetables and excellent quality for the reasonable price. We all had the daily roast. The desert menu again was varied The restaurant area was very busy and we had booked which was worthwhile. Very spacious car park. Very friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely revisit.

Attentive, excellent service from arrival to departure, no waiting around, drinks order taken immediately and delicious food, served on hot plates (always a good sign,) served quickly. Absolutely delightful food, in a pleasant pub - we booked from a distance and weren't sure what to expect. The pub itself is nice, with a warm atmosphere, but the back room that we were put in as a big party seemed a little tired. So we were very pleased with the quality of food and service that transpired. Lots of variety on the menu, and all 10 of us really enjoyed our meals. Will definitely return if down this way again.

As a frequent visitor to the area for many years, I have eaten at The Denbigh on numerous occasions and it was once a family favourite. The last 2 times I have eaten there however I have been really disappointed. The most recent of which, last week, we found our food to be luke warm, tasteless and looked as though it had been heated in a microwave. The service was slow, staff were clearly new and inexperienced, which is fine, but we were given wrong information regarding a meal which meant that a member of my family could not eat their meal. Very disappointing and sadly I don’t think we will be returning.

Last day staying locally and we found this, a little walk from where we were staying and we arrived at 14.15 (they close at 15.00, the whole place) but we ordered and sat in the garden (very nice). My wife order a dressed crab salad, which came with chips and all the trimmings, I ordered a steak baguette with a bowl of chips, the baguette came with all the trimmings as well. We both enjoyed what we had. Would we go back, we certainly would.

We had my dad’s 91st birthday meal here, we sat in the bar area due to his mobility issues, but it was so hot. We mentioned it to the lady serving and she said we could undo the windows but it was locked, and there was no air in there at all. Dad had a funny turn and had to go outside for air which wasn’t great with the mobility issues. We thought perhaps we could have dessert in the garden but there was no shade. Possibly having the doors open would’ve been nice.

I ve been visiting the denbigh on an almost daily basis for the past 3 months and really enjoyed it there even though the service is incompetent by seemingly untrained staff yet they re friendly and I accepted it as we all have to start somewhere. Last night we had a meal there once again and our table was approached by a gentleman with a bulldozer attitude throwing a bill on the table stating " you have an unpaid bill from friday" No hello excuse me pardon me or anything resembling decency and manners. I queried this and stated we ve never left here before without settling any bill be it cash or card and adding generous tips with every payment. Recollecting the horrific experience and the manner with which it was handled . The penny dropped. We were overcharged on that friday and we queried the bill before paying. A new bill was issued which we settled. The old double charged bill obviously wasn t cancelled and placed into the till as owing. Won t be going there ever again . The gentleman who approached us obviously was the landlord with no tact or manners accusing us of not paying a bill in front of everybody. My advice to him would be learn some manners and approach sensitive matters with more tact than your present bombastic way. Next time call somebody aside to talk to them. To let everyone know our bill last night was £32 and I rounded it off to £60 with the gratuity. For a £22 "unpaid" bill the denbigh has lost customers that have spent near enough to £1000.00 in meals and drinks there over the last 3 months

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

We bumped into this beautiful pub whilst away on business. Very grateful we did. A fantastic pub with friendly staff and frankly outstanding food. Gammon egg and chips was everything you’d want, A salty thick slab of beautiful gammon with perfect eggs and crispy chips. The pie was increíble- a generous slab of (surely) homemade shortcrust pasty, chicken, ham and leek pie with chips, veg and gravy. Deep filled is an understatement! Couldn’t recommend more- a big thanks to Nikki and the staff.

I’m relieved to see this establishment has closed its doors. My experience there was one of the worst I've ever encountered, especially considering I live in the area and never expected to face such blatant racism in my own community. The owners, Jimmy and Carol, were never friendly right from the start, and it's astonishing that they managed to operate this restaurant for so long. I had often walked past it without giving it much thought, but this time I was with a few friends and thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, the way we were treated was nothing short of appalling. We stood in the middle of the dining area for at least 15 minutes without even a greeting. It’s hard to believe they could miss us, as there were four of us waiting. The waitstaff glanced at us several times but never made the effort to approach. I can’t help but wonder if our Asian descent played a role in their indifference. Despite the available seating, we chose to wait out of respect. I sincerely hope they never reopen a restaurant. If they do, I hope they learn a valuable lesson in customer service.
