I would like to start this review off by saying this is an absolutely stunning venue. We had a very warm welcome and the gentleman was kind enough to take our coats. Upon sitting down we were asked if we would like champagne, and promptly brought the first item, which was a yummy truffle dish. The service went down hill after this. Around 20 minutes after we had been given the truffle, we still had no tea and we had to ask someone to bring us some. We then also waited quite a long time for the sandwiches to arrive. The sandwiches again were very nice. After these we were asked if we would like more tea, which we were given, but my friend asked for a replacement cup. After 20 minutes of not having one, she did have to get up and ask for a cup. After this, we were presented with some warm scones, but no plates to eat from. By the time we managed to call someone’s attention to get some plates, as again no one came over with any, the scones were no longer warm. After the patisserie, we were told we would be able to have a slice of cake to take home. Again, unfortunately we waited a very long time after finishing the cakes, and we did have to chase a waiter to bring us both the bill and the cake. The food was absolutely five stars, but having to constantly chase for simple things such as plates and tea, was really disappointing, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. I hope that the restaurant do acknowledge this, as if we knew the service was improved, I could definitely see myself visiting again.

What’s happened??? Have visited here many a time for a Sunday Carvery and have never been able to fault it at all, however today was a different experience all together. Where has the chef gone that had been there for years!! Because they should get him get back. Half the veg wasn’t available and what was there was stone cold, couldn’t even warn it up with the gravy because that was cold also, as well as being waterey!!! Meat was overcooked and dry and probably the first time in my live I’ve left half the food on the plate. Such a shame as have never faulted this place, and always recommended to everyone. Also staff are waste of space! May aswell not be there and about as much enthusiasm as a bald Gibbon. Couldn’t even be bothered to see if we wanted anymore drinks, take the dirty plates or come and give us out bill!!! And as someone else mentioned the seating arrangements are a joke!!! Literally had everyone crammed in a small line whilst half the restaurant was empty making it an unenjoyable experience for all! Nothing against dogs but we don’t all want to be harassed by them when eating food!!! Shame! And will be going elsewhere now for our carvery’s as didn’t realise it has changed.

We called in to the Elm tree on Saturday as it looked a lovely place for lunch. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming but the food was very disappointing. The ‘Caesar’ salad had miles too much dressing making it too acidy to enjoy and the extra chicken on it was extremely dry. The basic burger was also dry, small and charred on one side. The chips were nice! Not sure we’ll bother again despite the pleasant ambiance.

Place relies on lovely location too much! It's tranquil and outside any towns however this does mean you need a car to stay mobile as the pub nearby is pretty basic. Hotel itself was a bit dated, pool was tiny and easily filled with a single family so not great experience. Rooms are a bit drab and need modernising. A nice stay but 3 stars sums it up.

We stopped at The Plough Inn for lunch on a Saturday. As it was a lovely day we sat in their garden. Lots of tables in the garden and also a covered area under a marquee. The had a nice children's play area as well. You order at the bar, just need you table number. We ordered a Ciabatta Prawn Marié-Rose, a Ciabatta with Southern Fried Chicken and a Nachos with Three Bean Chilli. All the food was tasty.

As I was working in Lyndhurst I decided to book an hotel overnight stay as a treat. I chose the Stag as the price was competitive and close to my work. As it was a Friday night the bar/restaurant was busy and bustling with a good atmosphere. I was welcomed by a charming young gentleman who could not have been more warm, friendly and welcoming. I ate in the restaurant, which was very good. There was a slight mix up with my room reservation but this was quickly and efficiently sorted. The twin room I had been allocated was huge! Spotlessly clean apart from a wee that had been left I flushed in the loo. As it is a very old listed building, the windows do allow in a lot of noise, however a sign in the room explained that work will be carried out in 2025 to rectify this. Earplugs were very thoughtfully provided so the noise from the bar below did not affect sleep. Unfortunately had to check out too early in order to enjoy breakfast. All in all a pleasant stay with great staff.

The lady answered the phone and straight away said hello hold on - I then waited for 5 minutes - I placed my order and was told 45 minutes. 1 hour 15 minutes went past so I called the restaurant back to speak to the same lady, I asked when my order would arrive as my granddaughter was hungry ( was getting late ) we ordered early as knew we needed to feed a child! The lady advised me I should have fed my child which by the way is rude to begin with! We made light of her comment and when she said food was on the way that was that! The lady then called back to ask why we said she was rubbish which we didn’t say even if we had why would you call back your answering a take away phone! However we did not say that. She was very rude and abrupt, we asked to speak to the manager and could then hear the lady in the background talking about us which is very rude in itself! Anyway the food finally arrived to be missing items, when calling back she said it was our fault and it would take an hour for the missing items to arrive I asked to speak to the manager and could hear her in the background saying how she couldn’t deal with us! Working in customer service myself I would never treat a customer in anyway!
