Extremely limited menu, which bore no resemblance to "Sample Menus" online!!!! Roasts were reported as being very good but not much use if you don't like roasts!!! Very pricey for pub grub, extra £'s for everything and hugely expensive wines. Basically just another overpriced pub/hotel, which used to be a fine dining venue but is now the same as every other ones. Very disappointing

What a shame. Go here most days as is our local, just for a drink. My husbands birthday today, so we had lunch. Wish we hadn't. Chicken burger over cooked and coating stodgy, fish was just the tail end, overcooked. After complaining, 2nd piece, tail end again, also overcooked. Terrible value for money. If you are thinking of going there for a meal, think twice .

The staff are welcoming, attentive and friendly. The venue is set in beautiful grounds. It is dog friendly and this was a bonus for us. Food was good, the padron peppers and pork roast were stand outs. The beef was a little fatty but worth a visit and we will return

Charming place beautifully situated but don’t go for the food it is awful. Peppers padron well under cooked and the Sunday roast was diabolical. 2 thin slices of beef sat on a pile of lukewarm vegetables and soggy roast potatoes although don’t think they have ever seen a roasting pan. The thin watered down horseradish again the worst I have come across. Yorkshire pudding was acceptable. All in all a very bad experience that won’t be repeated.

Having read some less favourable reviews, I'd say calm down everyone,... this place is actually great. We've just had a meal and stayed there, only one night, but it was just fab. Fine dining? No. The best and most comfortable hotel on the planet? No. But, this place was busy, lots going on, young and eager staff still learning their trade, in a lovely setting. If you love dogs, you'll love this place. If you detest dogs, you won't. If you want perfection, it's not for you...But, for a fabulous, friendly accommodating vibe, lovely (in fact very good) pub grub, a good nights sleep and a lovely breakfast, look no further. Just book in, relax and enjoy your stay. When we had our meal, we were served by an excellent chap called Jake!

Our second visit here for a family birthday meal, this time for Sunday lunch. We had a pleasant table in the conservatory and despite the number of people eating we felt that the service was ok. There wasn’t any point where I thought that our order was taking longer than I expected. We asked if they were doing the specials from the previous evenings specials board. Despite it being busy the chef was happy to oblige. Our meals were good, the fish excellent. The trio of toast meats was plentiful. No fat or gristly, all nicely cooked. We did think that the there could have been more chips with the burger for an adult meal. It always looks a bit stingy when a few chips are placed in a pot on the side of the plate. I appreciate however that lots of restaurants do the same, that it’s trendy. Deserts were good but it might be useful to serve them with a fork and spoon. We should have asked for forks. The young lady that served us was very attentive and we didn’t have to wait long for drinks and complimentary water. There was a band in the garden, maybe a touch too noisy for us but we weren’t disappointed in either the venue or our meals (save perhaps the chips!). Definitely return, better than other local offerings in our opinion. We’d definitely return.

Great! We'd had disappointing mains (and welcome) at a local pub we've always loved - so we made our way home, somewhat deflated and noticed The Mill, somewhere we've always meant to try. Decided to pop in and see if they had any gluten-free desserts; (we were also looking for somewhere to book for later in July for a birthday, when all the adult kids come to visit!) We received a very warm welcome (from Dan, I believe) despite only wanting desserts and drinks. He couldn't have been more helpful and checked out the GF options for me - there were several - we had sticky toffee and chocolate brownie puddings respectively (one with vegan ice-cream so lactose free). Both were delicious! The outside space is lovely, beautiful setting by the river, with lots of seating and well-kept. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and have booked for birthday visit for us all, later in the month. Very surprised by some of the negative reviews- that was definitely not our experience. The food and service were faultless. Many thanks to all, especially Dan.

This was my second visit, and I only returned as I was invited by friends. I was not impressed with the menu so thought I would play safe and have Fish and Chips! Unfortunately they were nothing to get excited by either. Also as others have said the surroundings are lovely, but the inside could do with some attention, the table we sat at was tatty, and the window sill next to the table needed repainting.

Went for Father's day with friends has we were on holiday in the area. Waited 1hr.for our meal. When it arrived it was not what we expected. 1 carrot 1 parsnip under cooked savoury cabbage 2 roast pots soggy. red cabbage. In a pile with the meat laid on top then smothered in gravy not very appealing and a giant Yorkshire pudding and only warm. For the price £120+ for a main course and only 2 drinks well and truly over priced. We told our server that the meal wasn't up to expectations. But like normal nothing was done. Menus did not display the prices very clearly Would definitely not return or recommend this place

Beautiful old pub with garden, right by the river: lovely spot, and very characterful inside. Sunday roast pork was very good, too. My only small criticisms are that it was really draughty inside (maybe we were unlucky with our table: it was a stormy February day) and the only non-meat Sunday lunch option turned out to contain dairy, so no ‘roast’ option for my dairy-free daughter.

Our 2 night stay was better than ‘average’ but not as good as ‘very good’ but despite this I’ve given a 4 rating. The place is beautiful and our room was lovely, clean and quirky. The weather was rank but it was still great watching the wildlife on the river in the rain from the conservatory area. The first night was a disturbed one; my husband is positive he was woken 3 times by a ghost. As he was falling asleep, he heard a bang, like someone bashing a frying pan right next to him. The next disturbance was when he heard the heavy door to our room brushing against the carpet as it opened and felt a draught on his legs, he jumped up but there was nothing there and once he’d settled he was startled and woken again by someone shouting in his ear. Needless to say he didn’t have a good sleep that night. I didn’t hear anything and am quite a light sleeper. I must add that there was no alcohol involved. Breakfast on the first morning was great; I had the eggs Royale and my husband had the full English, both breakfasts were tasty; the sausages and bacon were clearly from a farm shop. There were no hash browns which we were told about by staff. Breakfast on day 2 wasn’t as nice I’m afraid. I had the smashed avocado on toast with 2 poached eggs. The avocado was completely unseasoned so I had to heavily salt and pepper it, an addition of chilli flakes would have been nice. My husband had the veggie sausages which were dry and over crisped on the outside and he was offered a potato rosti as there were still no hash browns, but the rosti was tough and unpleasant to eat. We stayed in room 5 and didn’t have any hot water on day 2. When asked if there was an issue we were just told that our room was the furthest from the boiler so we’d have to run it for a long time before it’d get to us. A notice in the bathroom would have helped. It’s a pretty place to stay but pricey.

Stayed for a single night. This was during really heavy rainfall and fortunately the check in team suggested I move the car as the mill stream adjacent to the hotel can flood the access and part of the car park. The rooms have been recently refurbished to a very high standard and are very good. Food at night is typical pub menu. Breakfast cooked to order and that was my only criticism that I was there at the start of breakfast and it took 45 mins for the food to arrive - I nearly gave up but I suspect it was an isolated issue. The location was a bit too far from where I was working but I’m sure it is ideal for visiting the National Park

The restaurant and setting are stunning the service and food not so, out with friends for dinner last Saturday 17/02/24 and we felt a little rushed by two of the team especially towards the end of the evening 10.30 or so when one waitress in particular made a point of clearing the table and returning on several occasions asking if there was anything else we wanted, Cleary not as we had paid the bill and were finishing drinks and didn't need to be asked the same question three times in 15 minutes! The food was ok! I had burger and fries, all not very exciting and my wife had fish pie which seemed to have the same temperature as the sun and was inedible for some 5 minutes or so, not a lot of fish going on in said pie but was tasty by all accounts. Would we go back........Probably not but maybe for drinks if we were passing and needed a drink. Bill came to £150 or so for the four of us with drinks.

Eight of us were staying locally and needed a venue for dinner in the evening. The Old Mill was a luck find, the food was very good and the service (Michaela) was excellent.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Old Mill. Fantastic food, staff were attentive. Our waitress Alice really looked after us all. All set in a gorgeous setting.

Delicious brunch on a wet, windy Friday morning. The food was delicious, the service was great and the woodburner made the whole place feel warm and cosy. Very reasonably priced too.

We were at The Old Mill for what was supposed to be a celebratory celebration for our Wedding Anniversary. Firstly we were shown to our table - talk about 'Little Jack Horner, sat in the corner' was like sitting on a perch, with a cold...

Looked forward to a meal at the Mill - the ambiance of the restaurant and surrounding are beautiful, with tasteful decor, etc but the food was overpriced, no finesse with the food presentation on the plate. There was no salad garnish dressing at all with...

Have not been here for a few years, but decided to go with my friend for our belated Christmas lunch get together. Absolutely lovely surroundings, we sat by the large indoor style fire pit. It was after 2pm so quieter, and very cosy. The January...

So disappointed! Just like eating in one of the big chain pubs for Christmas dinner and at just shy of £400 for 3 courses for three we reckon poor value for money. (Three beers and a glass of wine, in case you ask). Starters were...

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!

En route back from Southampton we broke our train journey home @ Brockenhurst and dropped into the Forresters for a couple of drinks - Saturday evening husell and bussel - a busy local with atmosphere - great for a drink and being near to station was really handy.
