Pennington Fish and Chips in New Forest

Probably the worst chippy meal I have ever had. Gravy was microwaved. There was enough salt on the chips to kill a thousand slugs and the steak pie was cold in the middle. How bad was it, well my dog refused to eat the leftovers and he normally eats anything and everything.

Friendly staff and lovely food. Whilst i was waiting for my order a hoody came through the door and started a fight. I battered the hoody. I think i chipped his tooth whilst throwing him over the counter. The poor owner now has to repair the damage. He is sadly between a rock and a hard place. 😁

Probably the most disgusting fish and chips I have ever eaten. Fish was dried out almost inedible and chips scrappy and fatty. Obviously everything had just been sitting there for a while drying out.

Overcooked fish and dried-out chips. Dreadful! Maybe it was just an off day for them but I won't be back. Fed-up with miserable staff.

I am not a fussy eater as anyone that knows me will agree but last evening I had a lovely piece of cod, shame it was spoilt by oozing with grease, after putting it on two separate sheets of kitchen roll I still couldn't eat it. I think either the fat wasn't hot enough or it hadn't been drained before serving, the batter was disgusting but the cod was ok

Appalling, unfortunately not able to leave no stars. No salt & vinegar on them, even though we asked for it. Fishcake burnt & hard underneath, where it had been left on the hotplate too long Chips tasted stale and u edible. Do not recommend

We held a skittles evening at Pennington sports and social club and I ordered 40 suppers from here. The staff were really helpful and the food was first rate. Piping hot and excellent to eat. I asked everyone for their comments and there was not 1 negative one. Totally recommend them. Well done and Thank you, Pam Mckenna, on behalf of a group from Lymington Baptist Church

Would give no stars if there was an option. Very slow service. Food is not that great and takes like 30 minutes. This has happened several times over the past few years. I'm not ever going back.

I regularly use Pennington Fish and Chip Ship - it provides excellent service to the local community (I live in Lymington), food is always cooked well, the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is also good value for money. There a choice of meals small, medium and large.

Normally I have fish and chips weekly and this place was a fav of mine, Usual spending was £20-£25 a visit. Sadly just lately the fish & chips are of poor quality appearing to be recooked from another era, The cod has been getting extra batter and the fish is dry and hard. I Wont be going back anytime soon

Friendly and welcoming staff let down by the quality of the food. The chips were acceptable, however the quality of the fish was dreadful. Massively overcooked and dry. I know we came at the end of the day, but quality should be the same throughout. Portion size and price reasonable. The quality was too disappointing though, making this my first and last visit.

After having these chips a few times now I can clarify that are not what they used to be when mister pinks owned the establishment. Big let down. Small portions. Not cooked properly and lacking salt and vinegar.

Haddock and chips was tasty although the fillet itself was on the small side. Annoying that they don’t take card payments. Still better than average, though: particularly the chips.

I am really disappointed with the service I received. The lady was rude. The food is cold and not tasty. Really surprised that there was no card machine especially in covid environment.

Just had cod and chips and pea fritter from here won’t be doing that again chips were I reckon were from lunch time same as the non seasoned pea fritter and the cod was really small I’ve seen bigger fish fingers i will be giving this place a miss from now on

Fancied fish and chips, heard lots of people saying that this is the best fish and chips, well I thought it was worth a try. Well all the reviews before matched the fish and chips were spot on. Fresh fish and perfect chips so what more does one want, the’re number 1 in my estimation, ok you’ll get blips but that’s will occur where every you go, so well done and the staff are polite greet you with a smiley face. Sorry that there isn’t a photo it was devoured quickly

Staff are amazing. Special thanks to Kerry who very kindly sourced gluten free batter and understands how to keep people with a celiac diet safe. 👍😍 The fish and chips are freshly cooked and delicious. Easily 10 out of 10. Feel very lucky having this as our local chippy. Thank you.

COVID-19 brought in some changes, now you have to order using a mask and only 2 people at a time allowed in the fish shop! Once you've ordered you need to stand outside and wait for your order, allowing other people to be served. What originally annoyed me was the "local" people who didn't abide by these rules. Silly "Selfish" people who still stayed in the shop waiting for their order, preventing other customers from entering. Also people who said they'd "pre-ordered" and expected to "jump-the-queue", whilst you'd been there waiting 20 minutes from opening time!!! While the service wasn't ideal, the quality of the white fish was excellent. I'd ordered 3 times whilst on holiday and found my large cod and large haddock to be quality fish and mushy-peas second to none. However the batter was very dry and not to the quality I'd normally expect as from my native Yorkshire Resorts of Scarborough and Whitby. Not sure whether they use "Beef Dripping" here, but comparing with my visits in 2019, it seems the quality has vastly improved.

I've been here quite a few times, always cheerful and friendly staff, they remember regular customers and have a chat. Convenient location opposite mini Tesco, so I can place my order, cross the road and get some cider or a bottle of wine, come back and its wrapped and ready for me! My only complaint is they close at 9 pm, thats a bit early for me sometimes! and beware, they do not take credit cards its cash only. You can I suppose eat there, but really its not a restaurant its a take-away service

Had fish & chips twice whilst on holiday. Both times fish was overcooked and dry. Was left disappointed.

Shocked and appalled to find a hair in the already disappointingly small saveloy and chips. Not friendly at all and would never recommend to anyone. Just go closer to the sea.

Fast service. Sometimes there are mistakes which are made but don't find out till you get home so can't do anything about it. Pies aren't nice for some reason since the last 2 times i brought them. Pea fritters are unpleasant no taste really dry...

Great fish and chips. Good selection for adults and children (small boxes with drink included). Fish lovely and crisp batter and chips not too oily. Cash only but cash machine available opposite at Tesco.

First of all the positive - fish was lovely and scampi as well, now the downside - the chips were really not nice and the mushy peas was really tasteless. The staff was very friendly and polite, so points for that, but I'm afraid we won't be using them again next time we are in Lymington.

A visit to nearby Milford on Sea revealed a closed fish and chip shop. A couple of calls later and we were back in the car driving 5 miles back to Lymington. We wanted a New Year walk after fish and chips on the sea...

First time here, good efficient service, all food cooked to order, fish was lovely, not too much thick batter just as I like it, also not greasy, chips tasty, grandson thoroughly enjoyed his burger! Would recommend this fish and chip shop highly.

We have been using this Fish shop for twenty years. They have a very varied menu. However, we always order Haddock, which is cooked while you wait. Always delicious.

The smell of fish and chips as we walked along the high street drew us to sit in the restaurant and eat. Delicious and fresh. No surprise there always seems to be a queue outside for take away.

The chips were good but the curry sauce was very watery, maybe because it was heated in the microwave rather than usual big vat.
