Tails 2 in New Forest

Always been a nice shop. But recently it's declined in quality. Last week I rocked up at 5pm to get some chips for tea, they were very obviously chips that had been left from lunch and redone cos the taste of redone chips is unmistakable....chewy and stale. Gonna try elsewhere for a while

This place is very hit and miss, but my experience this Saturday was the last chance. My fish was anaemic, undercooked with soggy batter and almost raw fish. My wives fish seemed ok. But we need consistency and there are much better places in the forest.

Inexpensive, tasty, large portions. 5* Some items from the menu were unavailable: mushy peas, etc. Hence 4*. Atmosphere also 4*, they have a large number of returning customers, I would consider their produce as traditional. It is a bit foggy inside from the vapours. Payment by cash only (or diamonds :)) ) Worth visiting

What lovely staff, so kind and helpful. Can't do enough for you, I was really blessed by them today and Can't thank them enough. Please support them as they are reallystruggling to get customers due to the frustrating roadworks.

Still good value for money, still friendly staff, still never had a meal from there that failed to please. Small chips will easily feed 2 adults. Note that it is cash only.

Can't beat this place for fish and chips. Best on the Waterside.

Just had the worst fish & chips ever, fish was like it had been sat on the hot plate all weekend, asked for a pea fritter & got a plain sausage, steak & kidney pie was warm & soggy & the chips were verging on cold. All in all a very poor experience.

Cannot recommend enough, the service was great and both ladies behind the counter were very friendly and managed to turn our cub order around in no time

Terrible, the batter was soggy and very undercooked. The chips were limp, absolutely no bite to them. Just a soggy mess of stuck batter and damp chips. If I hadn't driven 20mins round trip to get them I'd have taken them back. This is the second time we've had bad fish and chips from here. We won't be back.

My partner is a coeliac. Tails 2 staff were very friendly and accommodating. Loved the food, will definitely be back soon!!

Disgusting cod was old and like cardboard mushy peas were broken up garden peas and chips were soggy awful never again wasted £ 25 yuk !!!!

Had large cod and chips last Wednesday evening. Huge portions and loads of vinegar. We were very full afterwards. Best chippy for a long time. I’m just miffed as we were on holiday and live in Plymouth so no near to go back . And their fish is much better value than in Plymouth where we have a fish market!!!!! . Thank you girls you were great really lovely and one day we’ll be back .

Food amazing and portion are worth your money..

Just moved nearby. The first time we tried it it was really poor. The quality was low however we thought we just had a bad experience. If you really think this quality then try the others in hythe. Only a few minutes further. Tried again tonight and it was worse. We were offered two pies because one was burned. The chips were a mixture of uncooked and overcooked soggy mush. Certainly will not give them a third chance. A few extra minutes drive and the quality trebles. On the up side the service was friendly but the quality needs to improve.

Had a really nice takeaway from here. The portions was the biggest I think I have ever seen. Prices reasonable. Food really tasty and hot. Will definitely return. Only problem is I have tried once but the opening times seem a bit hit or miss

I know I've said this before, yet if you are looking for value and a friendly service come here. Whether your local or visiting the area, it's definately worth grabbing a great british meal from a friendly and welcoming team. Thanks again guys for a brilliant experience of your service. Beautiful fish and chips-- big portions-- and the spam fritters and fishcakes were the best we've tasted in a long time - will definitely use more often-- people behind counter were nice and friendly and had a laugh with them

Was in the area and not tried before, was ok but the chips werent for me, quite soggy, and had a couple of hairs in there to boot. Fish was nice but sausages were quite weird tasting. So good but not great imo

Just been reading some reviews and laughing; be sensible people. Great local chippy, never go anywhere else for years now. Food good, staff polite. If you have a problem tell them there and then, I'm sure it will be sorted! Be real, decent people making a living......

I have no idea how the fish and chips in this place are cooked and i dont mean to be rude, but a further effort could be made. The fish was bland and the chips were not very nice

Hi All, I've said it before and just want to say it again.Thank You to Darren and his amazing team for continuing to serve the community during this difficult time.Tails 2 is definitely the chippy of choice for me and my family.The service and food has always been great and the old style atmosphere has been really appreciated over the past months during the Covid 19 situation.This is still the best place to go if you are in the area.Please people support this and other local businesses who have continued to offer a great service during this time.

The shutter was down although the doors were open so I asked are you open the women politely replied 5 mins When the shutter opened I ordered cod and chips which turned out to be very greasy and as I was paying, the bloke frying made a sarcastic comment about me asking if they were open as the shutter was down.He didn't even smile ... didn't make you feel welcome in there. As stated before very greasy fish and chips.Hollybank next time although same company as more friendly.

Good portions huge Bad chips had lots of green / black ones Service was really poor - staff stared and looked at us like we had 3 heads. Didn’t look or behave like they wanted to be there.

Following all the regulations since they re-opened, fish and chips as good as ever, opening hours seem to be shorter though.

Just enjoyed the best cod and chips in 2 months. Due to Lockdown Masked and gloves... shop has their own protection too. Certainly recommend Thank you for being there...

I purchased fish & chips last Friday 17th @ about 1715. It was the worst I have ever had. The batter was so hard it was uneatable. I believe this fish was cooked lunch time

Greasy tough haddock complete with bones. Chips were were plentiful but stale. I regret not going to Hollybank chippy, which is excellent.

Been here a handful of times and it never really disappoints. Ordered the large cod, chips and mushy peas.First things first - the fish was HUGE and the batter was lovely.Chips - excellent value for money - ordered the small but even that was plentiful. Mushy peas - bit on the dry side and this was the only let down on the meal. Service was efficient and friendly. Looking for a good chippy? You can’t really go too wrong with this place.

Enormous cod that was classed as large and delicious. Young lady serving didn't quite know how to wrap them.

I've used this fish and chip shop on many occasions and can honestly say that the service is outstanding and I've always been greeted with a smile and friendly staff. The food is exceptional and always of a high quality.Would recommend that both locals and tourists visit here and step back to a time when people have time for each other and you can always guarantee that you'll come away happy and full.I personally would not use another place to get my Great British fish and chips.

This fish and chip shops feels like going back to a time when people actually enjoyed making you feel welcomed. Good straight forward chippy, ample portions of everything. Sold lovely kebabs but as not that popular decided to withdraw. This chippy is definitely well worth a visit Darren and his staff always happy to serve you.

Cod, scampi, jumbo sausage. Chip portions are huge.

The chips are good and the batter is crispy on the fish. The portions are really big an extra large chips is enough for 4. The staff in here are also really friendly. Can't asj for more, really good chippy!

Very disappointed I think the fish and pea fritter were from dinner time! But which day I don't know? Total waste of £15!

Once again, went there and ordered, close to closing and thd staff were welcoming, friendly and poltie. They never showed any disapointment or fustration over my order and the food was great. I would advise anyone living, working or on holiday to take a visit and taste some of the best fish and chips in the area. Thank yku guys and gals

Love this place - really nice food and staff!!!

Served by a lady and a man ( who appeared to own the place). The guy made rude comments to his colleague as we asked for gluten free batter. The comment was that hardly anyone is celiac and it was very rude, was meant to be heard by my partner.

Just went to tales 2 and ordered a small chips, large sausage and a small battered sausage to come home to find the chips are undercooked and the small battered sausage well I wouldn’t say it was a battered sausage as it had hardly anything on it! Not happy!!

Found this place online as we are on holiday and was close to where we are staying. The guy had obviously had a hard day as he was closing a little earlier. Very generous with portions and also gave us extra food. Didn't realise until we got back. Thank you for the extra sausages and sorry we couldn't say in person. Chips were perfect, pie was glorious. Definitly recommend. This is a cash only place but Tesco opposite has a cash point.

Only been here once but the cod and chips was very poor. Big portion but that is the only positive thing I can say about it. The fish itself was past its best in terms of freshness and was tougher than it should be and dry as it had been overcooked. The batter was soggy and greasy - the cooking oil was obviously not hot enough. Same story with the chips. Actually we quite enjoyed the mushy peas there was nothing wrong with those. But seriously - go somewhere else for your fish & chips. We were worried that we would be hassled by the cat at the B&B; where we are staying when eating these but we needn't have worried, it came along briefly but immediately turned tail and wandered off! Sensible cat!

I don't know why but Tails 2 is not as good as its sister restaurant, Chip and Tails, that had the recent unfortunate fire despite the same staff. I had a small chips and cod and the portions were humongous but the quality was poor. I watched the fryer take the fish out dripping in oil without draining it, which meant by the time we got the food home the batter was sodden rather than crispy and sticking to the paper. And unfortunately I didn't find the service too pleasent either. Shame really.

Two words - HUGE PORTIONS Quality food at reasonable prices. Make sure you’re hungry as the portions are very big. Fresh and varied menu. Would order food from them again for sure.

we were on our way back to Southampton from Bournemouth on a day trip during our holiday. we wanted fish and chips so we searched online for some recommendations and this place came up. it was a bit out of the way on the way home, but boy are we glad we chose it.

Best fish and chips in the area. Very generous portions and wide choice available.

A bit pricey but look at the portion size and you'll see why. Amazing fish.

Often stop here on way home-really good portion and thick cod with crunchy batter. Not cheap, pay £650 for cod and chips but quality food. Wrapped in paper too!
