Good wine and beer and bar service. Food took a long time to arrive although the pub was not that busy , 2pm. Burger was rather dry and shrivelled. The bun was soggy. Chips and coleslaw were ok. The Panini I ordered was disappointing . The streaky bacon was undercooked , not crispy as streaky bacon should be . I couldn’t eat it . The Brie was cold inside . The actual panini was ok Both salads on the plates were uninteresting, just mixed flat lettuce from a bag. Overall a disappointing lunch.

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at the ElmTree on 19.10.24. All I can say is Wow! Thank you so much for making our wedding so amazing and stress-free. Katherine has been awesome from first contact to the event itself and I'm so glad we chose the ElmTree as our place to get married. The ease of room changes, and the music being timed perfectly on top of the room decor and lighting made it just perfect. The staff were fantastic! Drinks kept flowing, glasses being cleared the whole time and they were all so friendly. Food was impeccable! Hats off to the chef because we got so many compliments on the food spread and the quality of the food itself. We couldn't have asked for better. Being able to bring our wedding decor early allowed us to just enjoy getting ready for our day the morning of. It was honestly perfect. We have been coming and will be coming to the ElmTree for lunch occasionally for over a year now and the food is always delicious, the staff are always friendly and efficient. Id recommend the ElmTree for any event or even just a bite to eat! You don't be disappointed. Thank you so much! Hannah & Lee Jones

Had my dad’s wake in the barn. Met with Katherine she was just lovely, and she went through all of the options and food we could have. The room was beautifully set up and the food was just as beautifully presented. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and the sausage rolls hot and delicious. Such a lovely family run pub. My dad used to love coming in here for a pint of abbots and a packet of pork scratchings. Would highly recommend having an event here or even just popping in for a drink and food. Even Katherine’s mum the landlady came over to offer her condolences and ask if everything was alright.

I held my 60th birthday part here in September and I couldn't have wished for a better night! The ambience of the Barn was really lovely, intimate yet large enough to hold a significant number of guests (75 in my case, but it could hold plenty more). We had live music and it was the perfect venue. The food was top notch, the staff were friendly and helpful, and importantly there is plenty of room for parking. Katherine was always available in the run up for assistance, and was very accommodating. I would highly recommend this as a party venue, I looked at a fair few beforehand and I am certain that I made the right choice.

Nice venue, friendly bar staff, but the food and service really let the place down… 4 burgers, three of them warm and one jerk chicken burger as cold as the waitress. Disappointingly had to call over Mrs McTweedy from Chicken Run and ask her to take it back to the kitchen. All the chips crispy on the outside but also crispy on the inside! Waste of hard earned money, can’t believe the owner is pleased about his place being let down by the restaurant side. Big clue - it was a Friday night and very quiet in the restaurant - only two other tables being served. Real shame as they’ve made the place appear so welcoming. Might go back for drinks, but never food unless they improve.

We visited for dinner as a family of 4 and unfortunately it was the worst meal we have experienced. The menu is very limited & expensive, no children’s menu, the staff were very cold towards us & not welcoming at all. We waited ages for our food to arrive, one of the burgers was cold & the Caesar salad was dripping in dressing making it completely inedible. The table next to us also had to send back their food as it was cold. Such a shame as it’s a lovely looking pub which could be amazing with different staff and a new chef!

The pub had a smart, welcoming exterior and the staff were equally welcoming inside. Drinks orders were quickly taken and delivered straight away. We weren't hurried to make an order but a member of staff appeared promptly when we were ready. Two of us had fish and chips, just about the best I've ever eaten in a pub! Crisp, thin batter and succulent, beautifully cooked fish inside. The third member of our party had ham, eggs and chips. A huge portion with proper home cooked slices of ham. All in all, a very pleasant lunch experience

What a shame! Lovely looking pub but barman could not even say "hello" let alone how can I help you?! Nice weather so we sat outside with our drinks but oh dear, two smokers stepped out right by the entrance door and we were smoked out. So if you wanted to go back into the pub you had to walk through their smoke from their lungs. Gross.

Great outdoor vibes on Saturday afternoon - bbq and live acoustics! The burger was delicious - probably best I’ve ever tasted (jerk chicken style). Music was great too followed by country band inside later on. Good selection of beers - staff were helpful and seemed to cope despite a quite unreliable card machine! Nearly got a free round!! The Elm Tree hosted their first summer Saturday event last weekend and it was absolutely amazing! The newly renovated country pub garden was perfect for a few drinks from the outside bar and the BBQ was delicious- especially the jerk chicken, with gluten free options too! There was a fantastic atmosphere outside with live acoustics playing, then the fun continued inside with the ‘Blue Collar’ keeping the country vibe going. Thank you Katherine and everyone involved in a great ‘start of summer’ night-out.

Oh dear, so disappointing A group of 12 of us met for a family reunion; the food menu was very limited & extremely expensive for what was served. No separate children’s menu & minimal vegetarian options. The lady who served us had no natural warmth & it seemed like we were a trouble for her to serve us and the lad behind the bar seemed very new and/or frightened to serve without us trying hard to be chatty! We used to be very regular customers of this pub and can see lots of investment has been made in the place, but we’d say still rather a way to go in the hospitality & food side of the business I’m afraid

I could recommend the gammon egg and chips, but my wife is still debating whether her Beef Ragu Tagliatelle was the worst or second worst meal she has be served anywhere. It was dry, tasteless and the meat content looked and tasted like mince rather than shredded beef. Service was slow considering few others seemed to be ordering food. A real pity as the pub is newly refurbished and has character. Drinks ordered ok. A very limited choice on the menu. Not like other Green King restaurants we have visited.

As my wife and I suffer from disabilities, we cannot sit long enough to eat. hence , we only stop for a quick drink. The welcome was really warm and friendly from the two bar ladies, even bringing our drinks to us. A very nice ambience inside and an attractive exterior. This was actually a stroll down memory lane for me, as I played in a band there about 40 years ago ( just for one night ! ). The car park could do with a little re-surfacing, although there are plenty of spaces. I cannot comment on food, as per previous sentence. My wife enjoyed her small Guinness, my pint of Old Trip was a little cold, and sadly no dimpled handles were available, however, I had a straight handle instead. Call me dull, but my choice of vessels seem to affect the taste. The welcome by the lovely staff outshone any niggles though. Thank you ladies.

Took the in - laws there for a late Sunday lunch on 14th January as we were based in Ringwood for the weekend. I / we had just about given up on dining out due to numerous overpriced disappointments but thought we'd give the Elm Tree a try and book a table; best decision ever, seriously ! Everything was just perfect from start to finish; it was a cold January day and when we arrived we were shown to our table right next to the wood burner / fireplace. The beer was really well kept, the service was very friendly and ultra efficient, especially from the lovely dark haired lady that looked after us ( bad me for not getting her name ). We chose three different roasts plus a veggie Wellington; it was impressive that all were still available so late in the afternoon despite it being busy ... in fact it was 4 roast options as lamb was also available as a special. We all agreed that it was by far the best Sunday roast we could remember having 'out' in many years if not 'ever'; fantastic gravy and homemade Yorkshires were the icing on the cake. The pudds were also superb; all at a really reasonable price we thought. To round it all off the owner took the time out to have a proper chat with us for quite some time before we left and explained his 'journey' with the pub, which was really interesting; what a great bloke ... why can't we have a landlord like him at our local in Horsham ?, maybe we'll have to move to Ringwood lol ... seriously though this place is priceless; the lovely thatched building, the barn ... everything; spotlessly clean too and above all really happy staff that seem like they love being there ... which is about as rare as rocking horse poo these days. It's everything that a pub should be in every way; I'd almost given up hope of believing that such places still exist; thank you all so much and I really hope that we can be back sometime VERY soon.

First time visiting since the change of owners, and likely to be the last. Not exactly a warm welcome from a waitress who needs a lesson or two in customer service. If you don't like your job...change it. The starters were quick and hot, which was lucky as it went downhill from then. The smallest piece of fish I have ever seen be served then arrived. I don't expect limp frozen chips at these prices either. The Cajun burgers were 'ok' at best. We all left feeling we would have been better off at McDonald's. Unfortunately one of our party was very ill later on the evening ,he hadn't finished his pudding as the ice cream 'didn't taste right'. Being 'british' definitely got the best of us, we didn't realise until after we left that we had all wanted to complain but didn't want to embarrass the others as it was a family get together

Secondly the waitress was not the most friendly. Every time I asked her a question it was like I was being a pain! The food was ok, however I had to wait for mine and then it was like warm and also had to wait for my veg to come out. One of our party had hairs in his fish and chips. After a year of trading very little, one would think the kitchen staff would have had time to improve their culinary skills but no, it’s still the same pre made (most likely frozen) burger patties. What an absolute shame that most pubs no longer aspire to freshly made food but go for the quick and cheap alternatives. COVID wise. Can’t be faulted. All outdoor tables clearly socially distanced, staff wearing mask and gloves, one way system etc.

Came here with my family as I haven't seen them since last year.Negative I was disappointed , as there was limited Food options which would of been fine but the food that was on offer was poor . The Salad was limited and spicy so 3 people couldn't eat. Burger was too fat and just dry which wasnt nice , the burger bun was hard so couldn't eat that , chips were under cooked and anemic, Turkey meat in the pie was under cooked and dry. Positive The service was great people was polite and nice all our drinks were lovely and cold in clean glasses . The 4 puddings that we had were fantastic and was the best item on the menu. There should be soups with warm bread not hard bread , salad with iceberg lettuce , salad peppers , tomatoes, cucumber with an option of salad dressing. Eggs should be in any kitchen as they didn't have any eggs which is so strange as eggs is a staple in any kitchen but not in this one .My other half and daughter wanted ribs but there wasn't any in the limited menu eleven though it's the main dish this place is famous for weird I'm so sorry but I don't think I will be eating here again until it changes

A cold winters night house hunting we spotted a warm and cosy cottage looking pub in Hightown near Ringwood. Perfect for some much needed gin and food.Parking up, we walked into the busy pub and were greeted with a nice smile from the bar lady, who asked is what we would like to drink - as she did so a man (who later identified as the landlord) strode up to us and asked if we had just parked in a disabled bay. Smiley and happily we replied that we are not sure - to which he replied ‘you are so go and move it’ in a very passive aggressive manner (We wondered if he’d been lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on unsuspecting customers, maybe he has a hide in the grounds he shares will Bill Oddy in cold nights?, cosy)We of course agreed, but explained that we had not been here before, it was dark in the stone car park and we didn’t realise there was any disabled bays marked, let alone parked in one. Muttering to himself (maybe he’s the only one that will listen?) he walked off into the kitchen. We ordered our drinks and the embarrassed bar maid apologised for what had just happened. We assumed he might be having a man ovulation and we had got the brunt of his cycle. We stewed on it for a few seconds and my partner asked if he could speak to the man again, as we felt he’d been quite unnecessarily and needlessly aggressive to us, shooting first and then asking questions, maybe Hightown is the Wild West, I was awaiting Will Smith to pop out at any minute and the challenge of a pistol duel?Long story short he came back out and we explained calmly that we felt, although rightly we HAD parked in a disabled bay, he dealt with us as patrons in a very aggressive and threaten manner - which we were not happy with. A simple ‘heads up guys, your in a disabled bay, when you’ve got your drinks do you mind just moving down a few yards? - cheers guys, enjoy your stay’.The message could and should have been dealt with a in totally different way, however we could clearly tell he was getting more and more angry and red in the face when we asked him to deal with us in a correct manner, with a little respect and any level just above really poor customer service. He said if we didn’t like it we could leave, we had the choice to leave if we didn’t like his tone, manner or what he was saying. We decided to take our customer elsewhere into the next town. The problem was not where we parked or being asked to move but how it was dealt with by Grant Mitchell, alright Marrrr.Little does he know that we are moving close to the pub and we do like to eat out a few times a week with a bottle of wine at our chosen local - normally at least £50 a pop which works out at £2500 a year min! (shocking, never really worked out how much I spend in the pub!!), needless to say this money will not be lining Mr Angry’s pocket.Perhaps, as he can clearly turn away patrons on a cold Wednesday evening with money to burn, he has the necessary cash flow to self invest in a ‘customer service course’ or a ‘conflict management course’. We were not agressive, clearly made a human error and were happy to move, how the low and indecent attitude we were shown as customers left a lot to be desired.Safe to say we won’t be back and for gods sakes, if you do decide to risk being spoken to like dog faeces, heavens forbid, don’t park in the wrong place.

Visited the elm tree with 4 friends yesterday as we live locally. In there for a couple of hours and then a few more friends turned up so we moved to a different table. The landlord then decided to come over and introduce himself and give us a “warning” that there is 36 cameras in the pub so we shouldn’t step a foot out of line. We had literally just sat down. He was EXTREMELY drunk when he came over and have been told he was out drinking in another that bar all day that day. When we challenged him he just kept replying “I don’t care, I’m the landlord”. It was extremely disappointing to be tarnished just for being a group of young people. We go out regularly and cause no issues. In his words “I don’t recognise you so I don’t trust you”. Nice. You would think a landlord would welcome new customers who are putting money behind his bar. It’s safe to say we left just after this and went to a more welcoming pub to continue our night. Absolutely disgusting landlord and I recommend no one goes in there.

The Elm Tree food definitely isn’t what it used to be. The chicken bacon and mayo sandwich was awful. There was more mayo (which was not nice and tasted more like tartare sauce) than chicken or bacon and considering the bread was meant to be ‘granary’, the flimsy, stale Hovis packet slices were poor. It was completely overpriced at £5.95 for what it was and I left most of it. Very disappointing. The Rekordalig was £5.10 which is also ridiculous, especially as I wasn’t given the whole bottle from the bar staff.

Wow what can I say, what a lovely pub/inn. We travelled a hour to come here after a recommendation from a family member. We rang up that same morning for a table for 3:15pm for the Carvery all booked in. When arriving plenty of parking and the place looked lovely. We went to the bar to order drinks (as we arrived early) the man who served us not sure if he was the landlord but he was so friendly and welcoming. He tried to interact with our child but he’s a little shy. We asked about our table and he went and checked straight away, we were told someone would come and get us in 5 when the table was ready. Once seated order was taken quickly and had to wait a few minutes for them to come and serve the carvery but when ready, portion sizes are extremely generous and help yourself to as much veg as you like. The cauliflower and broccoli cheese was lovely to be fair the who meal was amazing, meat was tender, veg cooked to perfection. Myself and my two companions had a lovely evening meal at the Elm Tree Inn. We all chose something different from the menu and we were all very satisfied with our meals. The Inn provides a very pleasant surroundings and the service was friendly and efficient. Another point to mention is the toilets were very clean. I would definitely return for another visit.

We had a skittles afternoon in the barn at the Elm Tree with 52 people. The pub catered for all of us and the food was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and they served the food swiftly and while it was still hot. The presentation of the food was great. We would thoroughly recommend the Elm Tree for group events, or for just family meals or couples in a lovely surrounding. There is an excellent car park and outside seating. Louise and Martin or own the pub could not be helpful. And as it was close to Remembrance day they had a superb remembrance display and we hope they win the competition for the best display.

I visited this pub after a day out in the New Forest and was drawn inside by the appealing exterior of the pub. Inside it was pretty standard, quite dim and rather empty. The service was lacking even though it was so deserted and you couldn’t tell who were staff members. The food was nothing special, overall an average experience.

9 of us had a meal here for my birthday. The food in this lovely pub was excellent. The Wednesday carvery was perfectly cooked and the meats weren’t Dry. Great value for money. The ribs and burger were delicious and the staff were very attentive even though it was busy. We will definitely be returning.

I'd say first off that the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the pub itself was fine. The food we finally selected on the night was also very good but it was the choice of food on offer that was the main problem. We were informed that three of the advertised dishes from the main menu were unavailable and to make matters worse we were left with a choice of just two desserts - one of which was ice cream. Not good at all and I felt sorry for the waitress having to explain away such a poor choice of food. No doubt this feedback will be put down to it being just "one of those nights" but you're either going to be serious about providing pub grub or you're not.....there's plenty of choice out there these days and unfortunately this pub won't be on our "return to" list anytime in the near future.

Took my sister here earlier in the week, was served by a young woman with blue hair who was really friendly, the food was good traditional, warming pub food and we were happy to wait a little bit longer as you could tell it was all fresh and not just microwaved. Dogs being welcome is always a big plus as well and added to the cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately they didn't have any alternative milks for coffees which would have been nice but will still definitely be coming back!

Having read good reviews about the Wednesday lunchtime carvery we gave it a try.It was fantastic !From the smiling, polite staff to the quality of the food we have to say that this is a real turnaround from the rubbish that we had previously experienced. The flavour of the different vegetables, the turkey and gammon tasted home cooked...one of our party has an interest in a very busy food operation and she thought that it was very good too. So,well done and Thank You for making my 65th Birthday Lunch a very enjoyable experience.

Service great nice and helpful and polite. Nice clean environment. Dinner was a bit on the large side. Apple crumble was a bit burnt. BBQ ribs cooked great just the sauce was a bit to strong so to overpowering I thought. The Chips were so yummy. The birthday son loved the special beef stilton pie with chips and beans. The Meal was served in good time of about 30 minutes. All in all the meal was great.

Much of my steak was gristle and inedible. The chef would have seen this on selection but chose to cook it anyway! Not busy for food but slow service. On arrival food was luke warm and salad wilted. Chips were indescribable. Friends pie and potato was only mediocre and the mash was microwaved and gravy forgotten for a while when it arrived likely not vegetarian. Used to be a regular at this INN but sadly has gone downhill. I couldnt recommend it on this recent visit.

Some members of the Portsmouth Reptile & Amphibian Society (PRAS) regularly get together for days out, followed by a meal on our way home. Today we visited Liberty’s Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre (throughly recommend a visit). The Elm Tree is on the way to Liberty’s so it seemed perfect to stop their on the way back. Considering there was 9 of us and no prior booking made, with a 15 minute wait we were soon settled tucking into a gorgeous carvery - portions were so generous, not to mention proper yummy with good selection of meat, and lots of different veg etc. If anybody is ever passing through and you’re after a really good Sunday lunch, this place is definitely worth stopping at!!

I highly recommend this as a wedding venue. We hired the barn & bar and hired a huge marquee the went along the length of it. We had our blessing in the barn and had 100 people seated in the marquee. The landlord & lady went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect wedding day. We will be regular customers here and will be telling everyone about this wonderful pub.

After reading recent reviews we came here with slight trepidation, a table had been booked. Our fears were abolished immediately with the friendliness of the staff. We were late due to traffic, but this was no problem. The pub was very busy, we were seated at our table, three had the Carvery and it was excellent, three had ordered different and we were told when their food was nearly ready so we could all eat together. The portions were generous, nicely cooked Thank you everyone there, we had a lovely lunch, will be back for another visit soon

We visited recently with some friends for an early evening meal. We ordered around 6pm and our "food" arrived at 7.30pm. Trying to get drinks was difficult as there were several of us waiting at the bar to be served when a cyclist ordered 3 coffees - this threw the one barman a bit, but at no point did he apologise for the time it took to make these coffees, or summon help. By which time there were even more waiting at the bar. Drinks were ok but not all our glasses were clean. Whilst waiting for food, the less than cheerful publican and his group sat nearby with a vicious looking black dog, which got very excited when another dog appeared, growling and barking menacingly. He told the dog to "sit the f**k down!". He should have assisted behind the bar - it would have smacked customer care, as would some moderation of language.

We had a post wedding party in The Barn at the Elm Tree and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice of venue! From the moment we contacted Lou, her and husband were nothing but helpful, so lovely (and very patient with me!) we had a BBQ for everyone which was fab and the venue looked stunning with the fairly lights and added lanterns. The staff were fantastic all evening long, everyone had a brilliant time. In term of size if anyone is wondering, we had a singer, a DJ, a photo booth plus table for cake and a sweet table and around 100 people (inside and out) and it all fitted in perfectly. I would not hesitate in recommending The Elm Tree for functions or even just lunch and dinner, it’s absolutely fab and we love it! I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done to make our wedding weekend so special and memorable.

We thought we would try out this pub again having not visited recently and what a disappointment it was! We had booked a meal to celebrate our twins 5th birthday. We were asked to pre-order our food- I am not sure why as the food still came out nearly 40 minutes after our table was booked for! ( we were all sat around waiting) When bringing out the food ( we were a table of 10) they brought all of the adults food first and left our 5 year olds waiting! The food itself was average, the decor of the pub itself is getting dated and clearly hasn’t had any TLC recently. When we came to pay we used a 10% voucher which is displayed on their website. They printed off an overall bill showing the discount however when all of us went to pay they didn’t apply it! We didn’t notice until the day after so I contacted the pub and although it was eventually refunded it was almost as if I was an inconvenience- no apology just simply told it hadn’t been applied cos we didn’t all pay together! Their attitude was appalling and wouldn’t have been hard to just say sorry. This was once one of the best pubs in ringwood and their food was amazing. I find it really quite sad that the current owners clearly don’t care and have let it get like it is now. Such a shame!

Went for a meal at this lovely looking old style pub. Can’t fault the service, friendly staff. Had a long wait for food because didn’t realise they weren’t open until 6, food was very disappointing. They did allow me to have a steak and rib combo for £14, Looked great but steak was so chewy I couldn’t eat it and the ribs tasted like they were covered in thick ketchup. My girlfriends burger was very dry and over cooked, we only ate the chips which were delicious. On the plus side I complained and got a full refund, perhaps it’s time to get a new chef? The other issue was just the whole place could do with a little TLC, particularly the men’s toilets which seem have had all the locks ripped off

Just average. My small portion ribs were very nice and good sized portion but 2 had lasagne, normal size and can't imagine what size small portion would be, it was about 3" square and not cheap. My brulé looked nice but the creme bit was utterly tasteless. One pudding was uneatable, tasted like chocolate sawdust but in all fairness they didn't charge for it. Waitress was very friendly. But all in all, very average.

Having been disappointed by the menu offered at another local establishment, we remembered about The Elm Tree. Large car park is a good start, and the staff are friendly, so another 'tick'. Good choice of lighter items for lunch and we enjoyed our toasted ciabatta with halloumi, pesto and peppers, and chicken and bacon sandwich on granary. Bread was sliced rather than from uncut loaf, but easier to eat! Lots of tables outside so we enjoyed a bit of spring sunshine. Would say you get what you pay for, decent pub grub at a decent price. RECOMMENDED.

My wife and I called in today whilst out cycling. Wanted something quick so we both decided on the baked potato with cheese and beans and salad. I love baked pots'. Butter salt - yum. To our complete and utter disappointment, they would have been better described as baked golf balls. Had been in the oven way to long and the skin was about an inch thick and the consistency of ceramic. Just couldn't cut it. The baked golf ball was about the size of the ramkin dish the beans came in. I kid you not. It was so small there was no flesh to talk of. Both meals were the same. They even had the cheek to ask if we enjoyed it... An absolutely lovely location but I won't stop here again.

What a shame. Go here most days as is our local, just for a drink. My husbands birthday today, so we had lunch. Wish we hadn't. Chicken burger over cooked and coating stodgy, fish was just the tail end, overcooked. After complaining, 2nd piece, tail end again, also overcooked. Terrible value for money. If you are thinking of going there for a meal, think twice .

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!
