The best restaurants in Willaston and Thornton Cheshire West and Chester North West

Looking for an al fresco coffee? Quirky setting? Sunny aspect? Then look no further. The Platform Pedaller is located on the platform of the former Hadlow Road station in Willaston. The station has been preserved as it was in the 1950's with old metal advertisements. The cafe is currently outdoor but the proprietors are due to open the station masters house soon. Yesterday, our cycling group of 27 called in for coffee. Our customer experience was exceptional. I'll start with the coffee - superb blend dreamed up by Emily, who served us all quickly, efficiently and smilingly. The sunny aspect and traffic free location make this a great pace for a break. Easy access toilets in the old waiting room. Ideal for cyclists, walkers, dog walkers, runners and equestrians. Free car parking too. We will certainly be back!

Didn't have food. Just popped in for a couple of drinks before a party. Was a nice, friendly atmosphere, and I'm told the beer garden is beautiful, but I'm yet to see it as it was raining and cold when we went!

Our local. It isn't actually a hotel. It's a sizzling pub.

We walked in without a booking on a busy Saturday night. They still found us a fantastic table. Service was very friendly , food was amazing and prices very helpful to the wallet . For me though it was the choices on the menu that really wowed us. There were four pages of choices ranging from a sandwich to a full on steak dinner. You can have small starter or a huge plate of food. There is so much choice. But best of all no time frames. You can have a steak at 1pm or a sandwich 10pm. The Chef or manager has really got it right at this place. Just go its a fab place eat.

Went for the traditional breakfast. Big portion size, lovely food and service. Smaller breakfast is an option aswell :) Highly recommend!

We often visit this cafe for coffee and cake while out walking . Today we were a group of 6 family ,including elderly relatives. We were sat in one of the rooms inside. The staff were very attentive and friendly . We ordered both the small and large breakfasts along with coffees and tea. The food was very good . Lovely and hot and well presented . It was nice that 2 different members of staff checked all was OK with the food. The cafe has a loyalty card scheme, where you gain a stamp every time you order a hot drink. When the card is full you can get a free drink.

Food was lovely, great surroundings.

Sunday 29th great day "my birthday" recommended by very close friends Mary & Doug , wish they had told us a lot earlier, when we entered The White Lion you can feel the welcome then the aroma fresh cooked food, all 9 of us said this is a real country Pub in every sense of the word, 9mains 9 sweats later a few drinks unbeatable. Stayed here for a week for work. The room itself was clean enough, can’t complain. The hotel looks a bit old and tired. My work had booked the ‘meal deal’ for the week. I’m working in the area, I’d just like to come back, have a shower, have some dinner and chill out. Every night I was there I was told they are really busy at the restaurant and I have to book. One evening I was trying to order food at 6pm and I was told I couldn’t order until 8pm, I was in the restaurant and there were literally 3 people in there. It’s not on seeing as the food is pre booked and paid for, there’s seating for about 100 people, if they can’t cater to 4 diners at a time they shouldn’t be selling people packages that include food! Every evening I was there, there was never more than 6 people in the restaurant. Everything is too much hassle for them, there’s a really dull atmosphere to the place. Food is poor quality, wait an hour and out comes a lukewarm microwave meal, save your money and dine elsewhere.

A wonderful friendly warm welcome by the 2 ladies who were happy to answer and reassure me regarding allergy concerns, helping to make considered recommendations. The cafe was warm, clean and a great menu. Lovely quality food and drink. I loved my gingerbread latte, very festive!

Excellent, attentive staff. Beautiful food and a great quality pint. There is a great adventure playground for the kids. Always a joy to visit Pollards.

Food was OK.. nothing special, just ok!

We ate dinner at The Chimneys while staying nearby in August 2024. We booked the restaurant on a recommendation and found it to be a generally enjoyable experience. The restaurant is well located for the M56 motorway as well as being on the main road towards Chester. There were a good range of drinks including Tarquin's Gin, which my wife had previously enjoyed in Cornwall. We had fish and chips which were all cooked well, the only disappointment was that the garlic bread starter we had was pretty tough and not really edible once it cooled down. The interior of the restaurant was very warm but I appreciate that on a busy day, there's probably not a great deal that can be done about that in an old building. Overall we had a good meal here and would return.

Counter staff a disgrace. Looked sulky unapproachable and angry. If she can’t smile or look welcoming she shouldn’t work serving the cakes and dealing with customers.
