Counter staff a disgrace. Looked sulky unapproachable and angry. If she can’t smile or look welcoming she shouldn’t work serving the cakes and dealing with customers.

This our 3rd trip for lunch and to be fair you can't fault the food. Portion sizes are right, well presented and everything we have eaten has been very nice and great value for money. The staff however are a different story, bordering from pleasant to outright rude, with more being in the second category than the first. Staff walk off to do other things in the middle of you speaking to them when ordering your food, arguing amongst themselves and generally miserable. This could've been a 5 green ring review if only for the staff.

Had a lovely breakfast here. Was staying in the Premier Inn next door and didn’t want to pay £10 a head so came here. Service was quick and the staff were happy to mix and match items, to suit you, within the number of items allowed for the money. Even had whole meal bread for the toast which some places don’t do. Had a quick look round the garden centre while there aswell.

We decided to have lunch at the Burleydam garden centre and we ordered- what sounded like a perfect lunch - the real ale Welsh rarebit and the Stilton mushrooms on toast. What came was some foul tasting cheese mixed with a strangely cardboard bit of bacon 🤷🏼♀️- who could tell?- on thin sliced sourdough (I think) - a bit of salad and some poor quality coleslaw…. The Stilton mushrooms were served with exactly the same weird tasting cheese and a couple of soggy minuscule mushrooms. Evidence of Stilton was impossible to ascertain but I think it had not even smelt a whiff of blue cheese. These cost nearly £8.00 each. Service was pleasant but given what we were served was in fact quite slow…at one point I think there was more staff than customers. All in all very disappointing as we have had some ok coffee and cake there in the past. I wondered if they had run out of ingredients and made do with what they had in the cupboards….. if so it was a bad mistake to make.

We popped in to the cafe before we did our shopping for the plants we needed. I was surprised how busy it was on a Tuesday lunchtime! However, the number of available tables has expanded since we last visited nearly 3 years ago. We both chose the 3 cheese and onion baps. It was prepared and brought to the table promptly. It was well filled and was accompanied with a bit of salad and some crisps. It was very tasty and good value for the price. The staff were friendly and the tables were cleared and wiped down regularly. We had a great experience and will return again.

Terrible experience. 4 of us visited, if I hadn’t been with my mum, I’d have left before I’d ordered. Slow service and disorganised. Very rude counter assistant who did nothing but moan to her colleague. “There’s no medium cups what we supposed to do if they want a medium”. We ordered 2 tuna panini’s really dry and hardly any filling. Chicken Pinini hardly any chicken and again dry. Tea cake - burnt and wasn’t edible so left it. Wouldn’t recommend and we won’t be visiting again.

This garden centre is next to the Premier Inn. We popped in for a snack on a Wednesday afternoon after our journey from Shropshire. The cafe is large and looks very attractive, as does the servery area. Staff were very welcoming. We wanted sandwiches but were told, with huge apologies, that they only had white bread left. I opted for a strawberry shortbread instead from the cake display. It was delicious - two shortbread rounds sandwiched together with jam, cream and very tasty fresh strawberries. My husband decided to press on with a sandwich, even though he doesn't like white bread. The sandwich was ok, as was the coffee. The pub attached to the Premier Inn is dire, so we decided to go to the garden centre for breakfast the next morning. Again, very welcoming staff created a good first impression. Husband chose the 5 item breakfast, which we assumed would either be freshly cooked or at least hot, judging by the covered cast iron dishes on the hotplate. The only slight concern was the solitary fried egg sitting on a plate at the side. I had a slight concern that there was no steam at all coming from any of the dishes when the lids were lifted, and also my husband got the egg which had been sitting around on the plate. I asked for a three item breakfast batch of sausage, egg and mushrooms. To my dismay, the server reached down below the counter and produced a large plate of already fried eggs, which could only have been cold. He added one sausage and an egg to one side of the batch, then a spoonful of mushrooms to the other, not bothering to fold it over. I assume this was so that the person at the till could see that there were 3 items - except that the person at the till was also the person who had just served us the breakfast. Both plates were stone cold. We then had to queue for coffee and to pay at the till, then find a table. So, breakfast was cold egg, cold (poor quality - where was the meat?) sausage, cold bacon, cold hash browns, cold beans; and for me cold white batch (no choice of brown), one cold sausage and cold mushrooms, all served on cold plates. By the time we got to table the coffee was also lukewarm. A very poor start to the day and a huge disappointment. Come on, folks. You have a captive Premier Inn audience next door, the restaurant looks great, the garden centre is great............ why are you serving cold poor quality food on cold plates? It could be a little goldmine. That said, on both occasions the restaurant had lots of diners. Maybe we are just too fussy.

Ordered the child's fish fingers meal for my daughter. Once it arrived I took one look to see the worst fish fingers I've seen in my life, and I was a University student for three years, so that's saying something. While the outer coating looked appetising, the content was anything but - it was not fish, it didn't even look organic, more like old masonry from a disgarded brick (greyish brown)! It was plane to see the ingredients used by The Orchard Cafe are sub-standard, below that even. I am not joking when I say, you'd struggle to find such poor quality food (fish fingers) in an Albanian minimart! Even more shocking given the venue. Having the goujon sandwich myself, I would again say the quality was average, but at least edible. The tea cake which I bought my daughter to replace the fish fingers, which I asked, and received a refund, was again, average, with minimal currents and bland. This place is on my doorstep and I had such high expectations. While the Garden Centre is a gem, the Cafe should be treat with caution. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because of the staff, who I found very polite and hard working. For goodness sake, buy better quality ingredients!

I live locally to The Orchard Café and it is often a first port of call for catching up with friends for a coffee and cake or a light bite. The stilton mushrooms on ciabatta is delicious and certainly enough to satisfy your appetite. Now that the Christmas decorations are starting to appear, it is a magical place to visit. There is something for everyone. As someone who worked at the Burleydam Garden Centre when it was little more than a wooden hut and rows of greenhouses, I am delighted to see the transformation that has taken place over the years. Definitely worth a visit if you have not been before and a revisit if you have.

We chose our breakfast and then had to wait with our food whilst the young lady tried to make a coffee. Once we sat down our food and coffee were cold. The breakfast was awful, the sausages are the cheapest fattiest sausages I have ever tried. the bacon was undercooked and covered in white spots because it hadn’t been drained. The fried bread was cold, greasy and as soon as you tried to cut it it disintegrated. Hash browns were cold and undercooked. The only things on the plate that were edible was the mushrooms and the egg which was fresh out of the kitchen as we ordered.Such a shame as it is a lovely cafe and a nice environment and could have been so much better.

Been going to the Burleydam Garden Centre for more than 25 years. Recently its not what it used to be, the food is often cold by the time you get to your seat, so you have to return it to be warmed. The organisation of the restaurant lets the place down, there was a Lady Manager in the restaurant who appears to have gone now, she was always on the ball and kept it running well, that may have a bearing on the issues?

How do these places stay in business? Curried parsnip soup was Ok and not extraordinary. The sandwich was served on a plain naked plate, no salad, no pickle, no crisps...just unremarkable. Having had a delicious Xmas lunch here previously, we opted to go to the Orchard Cafe located in the Burleydam Garden Centre for their Sunday carvery. Unfortunately we did not have the same enjoyable experience and left hugely disspointed. Our beef option was regrettable, fatty over cooked and extremely tough. The gravy was a watery greasy substance not helped by the huge amounts of water spooned onto our plate with the carrots and cauliflour. The Yorkshire puddings were a flat dense mass of stodgy batter and all was served barely hot. The only pleasant thing were several roast potatoes. Reason no complaint was made directly was due to the line of waiting customers at the counter and not feeling it would be appropriate to raise such a complaint in view of other customers.

I have taken friends as well who were very impressed at the quality of the food. The tables are pleasantly situated with plenty of light and the view onto the outside area is nice. I had a hot lunch last time. It was tender pieces of Liver in a beautiful rich sauce. The vegetables all tasted fresh. I really enjoyed it. I hadn't time to stop for dessert, but I can recommend them from previous experience. The coffee and tea are good too. The car park is always pretty full and I cannot always get a disabled space which I need to have enough room to exit the car without hurting myself. I try to find a suitable alternative space, otherwise I would have to leave. Luckily I found one for the last visit. The bonus is having the garden centre to walk around before and after lunch.

We have been here before and had the most wonderful cream teas but breakfast on Tuesday this week was appalling. We had egg on toast - 1 scrambled and 3 fried. The toast was cold, the scrambled eggs were cold and lumpy and the harassed and sullen lady scraped the last of the egg from the bowl and slapped it on the toast. The fried eggs were horrible - not properly cooked and all slimy. While we waited for coffee and to pay the whole lot got even colder. It was just horrible. Did we complain? No, because we were on our way to East Anglia and didn't have time. But I wish we had. We voted with our feet, left the food and won't eat there again.I agree with the other reviewer who thinks this is the start of a complacent decline - management, do something now!But .......... the young man on the coffee machine was pleasant and the coffee was good. And the actual garden centre is worth a visit - it has some lovely and unusual things in it.

Three areas to pick from, tea bar, salad, sandwich area and hot food bar.Chose the hot food potato ash dinner and a lamb casserole dinner, if you are calling for a snack forget it, I got the impression they were feeding the multitude on my plate alone. And looking at the specials and salads/sandwiches as they went past another winner for a plate full. As you look around for a table there are soft seating and hard backed dinning chairs. Cost for two meals£16-50 and two teas £3-0-0. So lunch for two up to £20-0-0 or less .Can't fault the food, good value.

I would recommend this cafe to anybody wanting a 'Real Afternoon Tea' thanks to Julie and all the staff

Went to Burley dam garden centre for Sunday Lunch as was told it was lovely. Had a walk around the centre and it was lovely especially the Christmas decorations. So off we went to the restaurant for Lunch, stood in the long queue waiting to be served, eventually it was our turn, asked about the Lunch as my husband is Coeliac but was told they did not have anything to eat for Coeliacs and that was all that was stated, so we had a look for a cake and a cup of tea, but again nothing for Coeliacs to eat so just had a cup of tea. When we arrived home we wrote a letter of complaint but we are still waiting for a reply that was approximately 1 month ago, surely in this day and age there could be something to eat for Coeliacs.

Visited last sunday for breakfast. One surly more 'mature lady' serving who really didnt want to be in work and a really nice young lad who couldnt do enough to help ! strange how two people working together can be so different; you would of thought management would be on to this. We use to come here most sundays as it was really well priced and it was hot and very tasty. This time however it was very expensive, and the breakfast was luke warm / bordering cold. also eggs not fried properly; when you get a cup of tea or coffee you get a thimble of milk in a tiny plastic container which means ( if you dont mind queing up again) you have to ask for more by which time your coffee is cold.; to be honest we where all starving so we just ate it rather than trying to take it back. Wouldnt bother again; its one of those places that was good, and good value and has thrived on this reputation but has become complacent and will eventually get a bad reputation; this is probably the start of the decline. Management need to be on the ball and check on customers sitting down and ask if everything is alright. Staff also need some basic customer care staff and ensure the food is hot.Sorry if this sounds like a real moan, but it was all these things together that made it a rather unpleasant experience...oh ant to top it off the cairs are like sitting on a slippy hard as nails rock.

I've dropped in here twice now for cake and coffee and both times the service and food have been excellent. The staff are brilliant, so friendly...and the cakes and coffee are wonderful. Burleydam garden centre itself is well worth a look around too, they have some lovely items. Well worth a visit if you're in the Ellesmere Port area!

We have popped into the Orchard for tea/ coffee etc and a childs meal when we have had our grandson with us but it's not very often we decide to go out for breakfast but today was the exception. The 8 item and 5 item breakfast is well worth the money, it was well cooked, hot and tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend

Have been going here for a few years now, food is always good so is the service. The staff are very friendly and give the whole place a sense of community! Lots of activities going on throughout the year including a tea dance once a year which is great! My only criticism is i wish the tea dance was on more often, heres hoping!

We use the orchard at least once a week, the food is always spot on and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. If you want a quick salad, cake or even a roast its spot on and great value for money.

Having had a browse around the garden centre we went for morning coffee. There is an unbelievable choice of cakes- we eventually chose the cherry scones which were huge and well filled with cherries. As a season card holder we had a two for one on coffee. Very affordable morning coffee. The staff are lovely and polite. We sat outside in the lovely sunshine and passed a very pleasant half an hour. Definitely somewhere we will return.

Definitely worth a choice if in the area, cafe was clean and tidy and the food was fine. Was busy but that didn’t affect the service. Staff were really helpful and pleasant by far one of the better m&s cafes. This place seems to have two though the one downstairs doesn’t serve hot food

Cold. No atmosphere. Terrible halloumi sandwich with barely anything inside it. Expensive and won’t be visiting again.
