The Oaklands Hungry Horse in Cheshire West and Chester

Lock malfunction. Terrible, the fire alarm horn around 2am we ran out of the room and realized our parents were locked in their room, we asked for help on reception describing what was happening while other people were running out. The response was literally a steady who employee said "so what", when we get to open the door and ran out of the building we can see another employee holding cigarette that possibly set the alarm.

Stayed for one night 15/2/25 in room 1 which is on the ground floor which was I requested on booking so really happy about that . Room was basic but more than adequate and really clean , shower could have been more powerful but that's my preference . On arrival plenty of parking on site . Now this is where it gets really good , had a lovely welcome on checking in and everything about my stay was fully explained . Had a delicious evening meal at an excellent price and all bar and waiting staff were super friendly and professional . The pub had a lovely atmosphere and showed various sports on the different big screens around the pub . Had booked b&b and the breakfast was delicious also with a good selection . Would definitely recommend and will use again if in the area as the price was very reasonable. Thank you.

Exploring Chester and hoole, came into the Oaklands and had a lovely experience with staff especially Elaine who was very accommodating and helpful and pleasant throughout the whole time i was there. Can’t wait to come again

Called in for the football, the mood was lively and great friendly atmosphere, the server Kirsten explained the menu and shown us the specials. These were two meals for £12, a great choice for a light bite or a smaller portion. Staff were friendly as ever and I recommend the Greene king IPA ale.

What a lovely meal we had here. It’s lovely and clean, reasonably priced, food was delicious. Lots of options to choose from. Our server was called Louise, she was so helpful and so friendly. She couldn’t do enough for us. Oaklands is very lucky to have her. Overall an excellent meal,clean and tidy and wonderful staff especially Louise. We will be visiting again soon, thank you

My family and I just moved to Chester and wanted a meal to celebrate. We were unsure as to where to go due to being new to the area and we popped in here. We were truly blown away. The food was gorgeous, decently priced and we didn’t have to wait too long for it either! My husband enjoyed his pints and is definitely going to make it his new local. The kids loved their meals and ate it all, normally they are picky eaters!! I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Our server, who I believe was named Louise, elevated the whole experience with her amazing customer service. The beer my husband normally hasn’t wasn’t there and she gave a list of what she recommends and it was really helpful. She didn’t take long to clear our plates and even talked us through the desserts. Just an amazing experience that we weren’t expecting.

We are local and been coming here for years but as of late seems to have deteriorated , as someone else posted about none availability of foods on main menu, it’s happened to me in the past, Sunday roast at 2pm, (I don’t think that that is late for a Sunday lunch), sorry sir, no beef left, ok, I’ll have the fish chips and mushy peas, sorry, no fish either, why said I, a supply issue he replied, surely apart from the Sunday lunch, the fish and chips would be a popular choice, never went back again for about a year until today decided to give it another go, scampi for my wife please , and I’ll have the fish chips and mushy peas, (3.30pm), sorry no fish, why ?, we’re out of it, ok reluctantly il have the scampi, do you want tartare sauce?, thinking it was included as normally is, I said yes please, when the meal arrived, I don know if the chef was having a bad day but the presentation was none existent, 6 pieces of scampi, well, a tiny shrimp covered in batter, obviously from a frozen bag, Literally a tablespoon of mushy peas, (I think they probably ran out of them as well judging by the portion size)), tiny slice of lemon,,a teaspoon tartare sauce in a little tub that I found out later was at an extra cost, plenty of chips though, sadly shan’t be going back again, have to say though majority of the staff are lovely and very friendly, Just a little footnote on the presentation of the food that looked really bland, maybe a few less chips but with a lettuce leaf and half a vine tomato would make all the difference, just my opinion, we are not normally the complaining type…..

Popped in here for some food and drink this afternoon. We were served by Adam at the bar, he was really friendly, funny and made us feel really comfortable. The food was lovely, drinks reasonably priced and all the staff were friendly. Good location, car park at the front and back. Will definitely be back.

We had a Christmas catch up with friends and picked here for convenience with car parking. Lovely pub and warm and inviting on a cold day. Staff are really friendly and make you feel welcomed and great prices and offers. We will be returning here again soon

Went in here with my family last month and was greeted with amazing service from the young bar staff. However we received problems after what appeared to be the manager was rude and unhelpful in her service, and she spoke even worse to her staff members! Bad middle management is common in pubs and restaurants like this, I hope the chain makes effort to remove managerial ‘bad apples’ in future otherwise we won’t be dining here again.

This might be my first ever review on google as I’m not a complainer ever. However we’ve just been here for food on a Saturday afternoon and if I could give zero stars then I would. Minus stars would be more suitable as that’s about how cold our meals were when we got them. There were barely any other customers here either so I don’t understand why 2 lamb koftas and a kids pizza could arrive so lukewarm as the food arrived about 5 mins after I ordered. Even then the koftas were basically Aldi kebabs chopped up in to pieces with cucumber and tomatoes and some fries on top of a cold flatbread not that I was expecting the finest of dinings but just something that was befitting a nice family meal. Really really disappointed. We did not complain and just got on with it but I really hope the management take notice and improve as last time we came last year it was really nice. And this time it was just a complete waste of £30.

Easy to get to and massive, although reservations are recommended as itvgets super busy. Generic pub grub but prepared well and came to the table quick. Service was great. Would go again.

Stayed here New Year’s Day and had the breakfast before leaving! Great service from Wendy who was very chatty and friendly.. great breakfast and everything was cooked perfectly! Will definitely stay again!! Thank you to Wendy and her staff for looking after us!!

I would personally recommend this place to anyone, and in particular one of the bartenders Adam (Ginge) by nickname goes above and beyond for anyone that he serves, his manners and his politeness are next to none and so welcoming

me and my partner recently visited the oaklands for some food and drinks, we were served by maisey who’s service was absolutely phenomenal she couldn’t do enough for us which led us to staying all night, maisey was very accommodating, kind and a barrel of laughs! What an amazing member of staff you have Oakland’s she deserves so much praise!

Lovely place in a lovely village like setting in Chester a friend Adam Nicholson told me about it and it did not disappoint lovely food and comfy rooms will be coming back.

Adam Nicholson provided excellent service. Had my dads wake at the Oaklands and he was so helpful and made the day really special. The buffet food was gorgeous and really reasonable price.

We came in on Monday for an Abba tribute. We had a 3 course meal and the entertainment for £20. The tribute act was amazing my mum loved it as she’s a big fan. Talking to the manager this was the start of bringing entertainment to the place. Looking forward to coming back for future events.

What an Unbelievable experience I had here on Thursday 12th December! The member of staff called Adam also called Ginge maybe? He was very attentive and such a genuine human! With a great sense of humour! Would come back just for his company again! Didn’t stay in the rooms so can’t comment on them but heard they were nice!

Booked the festive menu lunch that also had free entertainment- the ABBA tribute act was brilliant! Great location close to Chester, friendly staff and onsite parking.

I recently visited the Oaklands with a couple of friends on our way into chester. When we got to the bar we were greeted by ginge who let’s say is such a character. He has such amazing humour and banter and he is very very knowledgable about what he’s doing! We were only popping in for a drink before walking into the city but because ginge told us about all the offers they had on it was kinda hard not to take advantage of some of them! Me and my friend ordered a pint each and we ordered 2 baby Guinness and ginge told us about the 3 for £6 but there was only 2 of us! Somehow Ginge managed to persuade us to get 6 shots instead and instead of baby Guinness he persuaded us to mix and match so we had 3 baby Guinness and 3 chocolate liqueur shots and wow they were amazing!! We didn’t have food this time around but the pub was busy with people eating. Next time we are in the area we will definitely have some food. We just want to say a massive thanks to Ginge he held a great conversation with us and is such a credit to the team.

My wife and I recently stayed here for a One night stay, we've spent many weekends in Chester at different Hotels and b&b's but sadly this is the worst room we've had. As soon as we walked in the creaking in the floorboards was ridiculous, you couldn't quietly go to the toilet in the night without waking up your partner. The paint was peeling off the walls and the window.was broken and rattling, we had to pull the blinds down and barrier up the window (as in the photo) also it looked like someone had tried to break into the room at some point with the door frame coming apart. But the worst part was that the bed head board was next to a box section on the wall that had a soil pipe coming down so when the room above flushed the toilet you heard it clearly. On the plus side the food was lovely.

Just had amazing afternoon. Went here to see the Abba tribute and have a meal and several drinks. It was a fantastic time food music brought back loads of memories of going to see Abba voyage. It was a brilliant atmosphere . Trying to think how to get next Monday off work to come for the Michael Bublé tribute 😊

Always go in here on way to Chester and never disappointed was quite busy for a Monday afternoon but served quickly would definitely recommend

We Came in for a 10th birthday and wow! The staff were amazing. We were served with in minuets of walking in by ginge who certainly knew his stuff. Food was brilliant and it was all round a brilliant experience. We will definitely be back soon.

I recently visited The Oakland’s pub, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Only visited the Oaklands for a family meal. Was very polite service, and the food was excellent and better than some other Hungry Horse venues I have eaten at. Prices are good, some new food on the menu which is always good and makes you doubt what you want ti eat as so many choices. Definitely be visiting the Hungry Horse venue again.

Went for a Sunday roast with my family. The roast dinner was lovely but I recommend asking for an extra pot of gravy as the original serving is not enough. Great food and service from the staff.

It’s basic but it does the Job. I didn’t know Green King was a football pub chain, I should have done more home work, because there is not a inch of wall real estate that does not have a tv playing football. The room it’s self does the job, but no fridge, soap dispenser on wall for sink and shower like you would have in a public toilet. The chairs in the room are plastic covered cushions for easy cleaning. For £140 a night I would have expected a lot better. I thought it was a lot closer to Chester, but Chester is a big city, so to get to the Center it is a 40 min walk unless you power walk. I wouldn’t stay again and would not recommend for the price. However if you get it significantly cheaper, want to use the pub and you’re a football fanatic who does not mind the most basic room, then go for it. On a plus note the staff were very nice.

Great pub loads of TVs with all the sport and even an outside TV. Food looks great but haven’t tried it yet. All the staff are friendly but Kirsten is on another level she is a ray of sunshine on this dull summer day. People say the birth of a child is the most amazing day of their lives, those people have never pleasure of being served by Kristen

Popped in after a visit to Chester Zoo, which is proudly advertised with a mural on the wall of this venue. Had a lovely meal with my family, just a pity the table felt sticky and the peas were overcooked.

Went to Oaklands for Breakfast with Mum and then some shopping in chester due to living in Wales. Wendy one of the staff was asking us about our day, we told about going shopping and told us where to go in chester. She was so kind to my mother.

Great hotel in Chester. The rooms are neat and clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. Everything is very affordable. The food was not entirely to our taste, but it was well prepared, you get value for your money and the choice is wide. There is ample parking space in front of and behind the hotel. There are also many people who come alone to eat or drink, which improves the atmosphere. A bus stops close to the hotel for visits to Chester city centre. This is also easy to walk.

Meet up with some of my girly friends, i just like to say we had a lovely time catching up, the food and the wine was lovely. I had fish and chips was warm, the staff who served us was Wendy she is so lovely and warming. We all will be back soon. Thank you

A great venue for good food at fair prices , Sunday Roast is definitely the winner on the menu, cleanliness and lovely atmosphere tope notch . Staff friendly and polite , would especially like to say thank you to Sophie [ fair girl with glasses ] who managed some very young children left to run loose in a caring professional manor and therefor stopped any accidents that were close and relayed this to the parents. Well done !! certainly will return again soon with friends and colleagues thank you .
