Rubens Coffee Shop in Cheshire West and Chester

Mi esposa, yo y dos de nuestros amigos vinimos aquí a tomar un café y una torta, después de caminar por Chester. Está bastante bien fuera de los caminos trillados, pero vale la pena el paseo adicional lejos del centro de la ciudad. Todo a un precio razonable y de buena calidad. El personal era muy amable y hizo que nuestra visita fuera muy agradable. Fue muy agradable sentarse en los sofás de cuero y relajarse mientras tomaba una copa.

Ordered over phone to eat before my son's wedding and collected. When opened it was on white bread not brown. Paid £3.45 for eye of bacon on one side and two bits streaky bacon on other. I could not eat it as bacon was burnt to a crisp it was disgusting I was just binned it!

Really friendly staff, good food. Unfortunately could not drink the latte. The coffee was pre ground, come on its a basic to grind to order and you've got the grinder.A latte should not have a cappuccino foam on top, so much I had to scoop it off. It was served way to hot making it taste bad.Guys these are basics of coffee. You can learn this stuff on you tube.

We visited as a group of 8 for Breakfast but we all ordered separately in parties of 2. There were no other customers in the cafe at the time waiting to be served (2 people in had already been served drinks). The drinks took ages to come. The server on the Till had poor English so made lots of mistakes on our orders. One off our group were served but we waited another 40 minutes before anything else was served. After 45 minutes my order came but only one of use was served Pancakes instead of Waffles and they hadn't even started making my order (poached egg on toast) so we asked for our money back and left.One of our party had Omelettes and they said they were not cooked properly (raw in the middle). Overall it was really quite bad.

Popped in on a rainy day for coffee & cake. Really good tasting coffee. Large selection of delicious cakes & pastries. Staff are very friendly & welcoming. A great little coffee shop that has a lovely relaxed feel about it.

My partner and I are currently visiting Chester and we came here yesterday (Sunday) and returned this morning for breakfast. The food has been excellent and all of the staff (different today) have been so welcoming. I have seen them interact with locals and potentially people who are visiting for the first time or at least not regularly, and they are simply fabulicious !They are happy, attentive and friendly and try to make everyone welcome.Thank you guys

My Wife and I had lunch here, scrambled eggs on toast, once again food good, staff really nice, clean place throughout, thumbs up!

Came here with a group of 7 others - 3 from USA. undoubtedly the best pancakes I have ever had for breakfast. Lovely friendly staff, couldn't do enough. I would drive the 50 miles here just for my breakfast

Visité la víspera de Navidad con un grupo de 10 personas y comí un delicioso desayuno inglés completo. Para ser honesto, el servicio fue un poco lento, pero para ser justos éramos una gran fiesta. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Bonitos asientos interiores y cómodos. Buena elección y totalmente recomendable para el desayuno. También en una excelente ubicación, la parada de park n ride está directamente afuera de la puerta principal. Algunos de los de la fiesta tenían los panqueques, que eran muy agradables y el café también era muy bueno. Completamente recomendado!

My wife and I came here again because it's one of our favourite coffee shops in Chester, was really impressed again,staff brilliant and very efficient,polite and accomodating too, great food,well priced, definitely recommend.

Popped in for breakfast before visiting shops and Christmas Market. I had small breakfast. Beautifully cooked not greasy like some places. We also had ham omlette again very nice. Coffee and tea also ok. What more can you ask for. Staff also polite. We then came back later in day for coffee and cake before train journey home.

Stopped off for breakfast this morning.We ordered 1 small and one large breakfast.Service was fast and efficient,food was well cooked and of good quality.Friendly staff,we will certainly use this establishment if visiting Chester again.

Popped in while waiting for an appointment in town. Nice a clean with plenty of seating. Friendly and helpful staff and a decent cooked breakfast with HP sauce on hand.

Had a lovely toasted teacake and Earl Grey tea,wife had coffee,very good, staff really pleasant, clean throughout,will return.

This is a great spot for good coffee at a reasonable price. The cakes and porridge are also consistently good. Welcoming for small children and dogs too.

Not as friendly as other ships in the chain, they were busy, but felt as if we were intruding. However the coffee was good

Just ordered a chai latte to take away and by the time I got out of the shop and into the car and took a sip it was just a regular latte #disappointed In the upside the staff were very pleasant.

Waited well over half an hour for our food, with the Cafe being pretty empty and a very limited small menu i am highly disappointed. Even our coffee alone took shy of 20 minutes to make.

They make a nice vanilla latte, with a good selection of cakes to accompany your beverage on a weekend walk through Chester. A hidden gem in the city.

Helpful and friendly staff but the full English was terrible. Had stale bagels for the eggs benedict too.

Visited on half marathon weekend-Sunday with my partner. Extremely slow service. Waitress kept saying ‘there’s only 2 of us today ‘. Food took 30 minutes to arrive for my partner. He had finished by the time my food arrived - poached eggs on toast. Food average, service poor, coffee good. Just go for a coffee.

It was our first time visiting here at approximately 10.00am on Saturday the 2nd of May.....cant comment on the coffee as we walked in sat down then witnessed a female member of staff with dark hair talk to a customer like absolute dirt!... I can't serve you now I'm 2 busy with all these orders you will have to wait... Well that was enough to make us get up and leave. That girl should be sacked and certainly not working in a customer service environment. Disgusting.

Visit every week coffee made to our tase cheaper before 1200 am. Polite and cheerful staff . Would recommend.

Stumbled across this cafe whilst walking the walls. Good size cup of hot coffee. £2 Dog friendly. Good service. will definately be back.

My friend and I went for a drink quite soon before the closing time last week. We found that we were taken advantage of because of our age by the young waitresses who had awful attitudes . After the long wait for cold "hot" chocolates my friend went out to take a call that's when one of the girls dived under my chair without any warning. Before this, they started to pack up around us and just playing on phones and blaring their awful taste in music. We were also pressured to buy a cake.15minutes before the closing times we were kicked out in the cold and dark.My other experiences with Rubens have been positive but due to these waitresses I would never consider going again.

Came here today with my boyfriend, we ordered two omelettes, coffee and a tea which came to over £16. The coffee came and the cup was dirty and had hair in, told the waitress but got no apology. Then the food came and it was wrong however when we asked about it, we were told that we are in the wrong and again no apology. Over priced order of the omlettre too, total should have been £14 but they overpriced us at £16 and we had to ask for a refund. Wouldn't come back again.

My friend and I went for a hot chocolate at Rubens on the 7th of February 2018. We found the staff disrespectful and rude. They took a long time to make our hot chocolates (approximately 10 mins) and when they arrived they were cold. After we had been drinking for about five minutes they started to close the shop around us without warning. Then we were asked to leave 15 mins before closing time and we were left outside in the cold feeling quite vulnerable as our parents were picking us up at a prearranged time. Ido not believe this sort of disrespectful behaviour should be tolerated. We wonder if we were treated this way because we are both nearly 13 and they thought that they could get away with it. I would 100% NOT recommend Rubens on account of my experience.

My mum visit the caffe all the time.. we went for a caffee and pancake/ waffles.. my son needed changing. For what I was told they don’t have a changing room.... or any facilities.. it was full with people and he’s 8 months old so isn’t that small... they said I have to go to subway oposite.. I went with my son in my hands and Sunday said sorry we don’t have changing facilities... so I had to change my baby in the middle of Rubens.. on his pram.. right next to my waffles and his pancakes... nobody wants to eat in the toilet. Yes toilets are small but there could be fit a folding changing table in the toilet. Even a small one is better than non.. I won’t be returning unfortunately as I can’t do that to my son again although his pancakes was very very nice.. and the staff are always friendly.. There have to be baby changing facilities as a mother this is a let down sorry...

Three quarters of a way through an eight mile walk in and around Chester the need for a break and cup of tea was getting quite urgent. Where could I go with my dog? Rubans i thought and so I could. The staff were welcoming to both of us. The tea and cakes excellent, the atmosphere cosy and warm. I've been to Rubans before, without the dog, for coffee, which I highly recommend. The range of breakfast and brunch dishes is wide and of excellent quality, the prices affordable and it all comes with newspapers to read. Excellent.

I was visiting chester for a couple of days I stumbles upon Rubens. It's a hidden gem on the outskirts of chester. Staff was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about all the products. Even my son who is a very fussy eater eat well here. Lovely coffee amazing choice of panini and cakes. Was absolutely spoilt for choice, I would highly recommend the nutella pancakes they are absolutely to die for, Me and my boyfriend couldn't finish it.

One of the prettiest buildings in chester; was really looking forward to coffee and panini here. Waited 10 minutes for panini; no croissants, no apology, clueless staff,not even a pleasant place to sit! Decor poor. Customers queuing at till awaiting orders placed and the service was dreadful.

First visit here, clean and friendly We had tea/ coffee and toasted tea cakes Very enjoyable and comfy settee

Very impressed with the food and the service, the staff were very polite and the food was delicious. Will definitely come again.

Visited here yesterday as always have wanted to poo in. So girlfriend and i decided lets pop in for breakfast. Staff were nice and pleasant and food full English was enjoyable, however my girlfriends breakfast pancakes with maple syrup arrived with that i was ready for mine to arrive, however this was not the case as was around a further 0 minutes till my breakfast arrived by which this time my girlfriend had finished her breakfast. Poor timing and should always serve meals together so we basically ate our breakfast separately which should not bethe case. Placewas not busy either as only one other couple were present. Was disappointed as the breakfast was spot on to be fair but has put me off returning.

I popped in on the way to the station as I was running early. Not expecting much I was hugely surprised. It's as good a coffee as I've ever been in.

Decent coffee and sandwich. Does what is says on the tin. Prefer this to the chain coffee stores. Feels more personal here. Well worth a visit.

Went in with a fairly small expectation but the coffee was good, the staff were nice & helpful, the menu for toasted sandwiches was good as well. Papers were provided and overall was a pleasant visit.

This place served me the worst milkshake I've ever had. Tastes like they put carte dor in it rather traditional vanilla ice cream which is what I wanted. They also.topped it off with whipped cream which I wasn't told about.

Paid a visit to here as we were in Chester looking for somewhere to eat and this seemed like a nice little independent place. Food and drinks were reasonably priced. The tea was lovely and I had a ham sandwich which was quite a generous size. The staff were polite and friendly and we were served quite quickly following our order.

Called in for a coffee on a very cold day, friendly staff, nice and clean. Nice coffee at reasonable prices. Just sat and watched the world in comfort and warmth.

Handy coffee shop on edge of Chester - halfway between station and city centre. Friendly staff and good selection of cakes etc. Sandwiches are ok if nothing special. Coffee good. Pleasant surroundings better than the chains.

Good selection of things for breakfast. Excellent service and great value for money. Went there several times whilst staying at the Premier Inn over the road.

Rubens is a great little coffee place, good coffee, English breakfasts, croissants, sandwiches, tasty snack food and good soft drinks and tea. At the edge of the city centre. Very friendly service, dogs allowed! They made me a great English breakfast and extra coffee, friendly diners, too! Not an expensive Cafe.

I've been here before for drinks and snacks but thought I would give it a try for lunch on my break from work. It wasn't too busy so I got served very quickly. The young lady who served me was very friendly and courteous- I couldn't fault the service at all. I ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich and a cold drink. I was given a glass with ice for my drink and sat down. Within 5 mins my sandwich came so I was impressed with the efficiency- however having paid £3.50 I was a little disappointed to see two slices of thin white bread with a slice of cheese and a dash of pickle. Yes I know a cheese and pickle sandwich is what I ordered but given the price I would have expected at least better quality bread, and some nearby places charge similar prices but come with a side salad at least. I deliberately didn't go to the nearby waitrose and pick up a sandwich as I think they are overpriced for the quality but I may as well have. Overall I would come here again as I said the service is excellent but think I will stick to drinks/snacks rather than lunch

Stopped here for breakfast on a wet Saturday morning. If it hadn't been raining we would have walked on and i wish we had ! Very poorly cooked English Breakfast. One of my sausages was inedible,i'd suspect re-heated from the day before at a guess. Such a shame when places forget where their priorities lie. A little further down the road is Weatherspoon's a much better option.

When entering this coffee shop ,there was only one other person ( a gentleman ) in there so got a seat easily , had our table cleared away and wiped down ,then the waitress came to take our orders but didn't write our order on a pad or paper but on her arm .Did not think much to this and then another party of ladies entered ,sat down in the coffee shop and there orders taken .The other gentleman who was there before us also had a lunch order taken , we waited a short while but noticed that all the other people who had ordered after us had there drinks, our drinks did come but then everyone else in the coffee shop had there food orders and we sat there waiting and asking each other , why we had not had ours yet.Time was getting on no and it was at least 35 minuets before we had to ask the waitress ,were is our food order , their reply was , its on its way.But on looking at the counter saw that the sandwich were still being made.I explained we had ordered our food before everyone else in the coffee shop and that we had waiting that long we would have to have them wrapped up to take away as our car parking time was nearly up. We didn't get an apology off the staff and didn't even look bothered about this .We have often walked past this coffee shop and thought we would try it but will never go again, very disappointed, To top it off when starting to eat the bacon and chicken sandwich my tooth cracked and broke.

Visiting Chester for a long weekend. Wanted somewhere for a relaxed lunch. Had this recommended as near the station. Great place that I would highly recommend myself now. Simple m we by well presented. Great service. Lovely atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Recommend the paninis and tea. Thanks guys

It's a very retro feel as you walk in through the door. Blissfully warm for February this rock music playing cafe has some of the nicest staff i've seen who are normal down to earth people. It has a downtown starbucks vibe going on without all the corporate branding.

Called by here for a sandwich and panini. Both were delicious and atmosphere was great. Yummy cakes and staff were friendly. Can't fault it for a lunch stop.

We've been to the Liverpool Rubens several times and loved it! Chester Rubens just as good, great food, very friendly service and cosy interior! Well worth a visit

Friendly, smart, Charlotte made an amazing Latte and Taylor Swift wasn't playing but Florence was. Panini super too. Thanks guys...and only 5 mins from the station.

We've visited Rubens in Chester almost every weekend over the past few months, favoring it over Chester's many other small cafes for it's relaxed, friendly atmosphere, delicious breakfasts and strong, rich coffee.

This place is an absolute gem of a find. Recently decided to take a stroll into town through the Grosvenor park and came across Rubens coffee house, decided to go in for a latte and panini before heading of to the shops.

Rubens, who have several cafes in the North West of England have recently opened this cafe in Chester.
