Al's Plaice in Cheshire West and Chester

Maybe I was unlucky as I called in at about 4.30 after work, when it was quiet, staff were great however the chips were terrible, hard , tasteless and chewy. Maybe fresh chips would have been better

The takeaway food today was awful. The quality's gone right down. The chips were dry and awful...tasted old. The pie was burnt and half hollow. The crust was inedibleThe burger was tasteless. We used to like it here but gone right down in quality. Won't be coming back.

Food just warm. Ordered 2 hours before with the estimate of 25 to 40 minutes. Then delivery stopped to pick up something else on way to drop off. If you are waiting 2 hours for delivery, its poor when they stop to pick other orders on the way.

They had run out of steak pies so sent a chicken and mushroom pie. I rang the chippy and explained that the person having the pie is allergic to mushrooms and all they did was turn around and said ' oh we ran out of steak sorry '

We popped into Al's plaice this evening, we just thought we would save cooking and order fish and chips. I really wish we hadn't, they were probably amongst the worst chips we have ever had, and we are in our 70's so have eaten a fair few chips. Granted, we ordered them at around 4:30 but that is no excuse for serving scraps of chips. The fish was cooked as we waited, but it was just two small pieces, it was supposed to be a large fish, it tasted ok but wasn't the best. I really feel if you are paying £11:40 for fish, chips and peas it should be of a certain standard. I very rarely post reveiws and if I do, it is generally in praise. I will not be buying chips from Al's plaice again. There are some very good fish and chip shops in Winsford, pity we didn't go to one of the others. I will add though, that the person who served us, was a very pleasant young lady.

Chips were re heats and burnt, fish was over cooked breadcrumbs were like trying to bite through rock, normally a good place to eat but this has probably put me off for a while.

Absolutely awefull chips well the bites were like bullets and tasted greasy, battered haggis you neaded a hacksaw to cut it. Also very very greasy

Just had a delivery Chips you needed a hacksaw get through them, I wouldn't of called them chips more like crunchy bites and tasted greasy, Battered haggis was the same Worst one I've ever had from here

Myself wife and our two children aged 4 and 6 called here on a Saturday afternoon.We had fish and chips mushy peas,and children had chicken nuggets.The fish and chips were just over £8.There was not a lot of batter on the fish,but some people would prefer it like that.but it was nice all the same.The Latte looked nice and for once was a sensible price,just over £2.I do not know how cafés that charge over £3 for coffee get any business.As for places like Costa and Starbucks,well their prices are on another level again.Well done Al's Plaice for serving lovely home cooked food and drinks at a sensible price.

the meals I ordered were disgusting in size and in quality. cod was tiny and was supposed to be large and it was definitely not large and it was very greasy like the fish had been sat in cold oil. chips were dry and not of great quality. I was very disappointed after paying £25 for two meals and we hardly ate it.

Excellent meal, their spicy curry sauce is amazing.

My 12 year old went out with friends for dinner, they wouldn't serve her a kids meal, didn't believe she was 12. What 12 year old carries anything to prove age??? Had to pay adults price to eat half the big plate that was served to her.

I was very surprised. Very nice meal. I usually go Woodford lane but with that closed I thought I would give it a go and was surprised.

Food is good but in the handful of times I have ordered there is always stuff missing out of my order. Not quite good enough

bit upset cause on instructions before placing order i asked if cheese could be put on large chips yet now received the receipt been told in future add 1 curry to pay for the cheese and write in notes , whats point in giving instructions with order if im to be treated in this way im gutted to be honest as i am a valued customer when it says leave instruction then you give instructions that should be it as its the idea of giving instructions! gutted upset here

Staff are always friendly food normally decent but today every other chip I biten had hard bits in like mini stones even the kids and missus had them so binned most of it definitely a off put.

Large milkshake was only a quater full, then just topped with cream....no flavour of strawberry at all. Canned drink was missing.

It's a great chippy. Hot n spicy curry is great! Crispy fish and vinegar steaming on your chips, great! Staff excellent, attentive and happy.

I'm not happy that the delivery price was more expensive then the food. But everything else was great

£3.70 for 2 cones of chips ,what a rip off , £3,70 for 2 potatoes 🥔. What's the world coming to ,wouldn't fill a childs belly.they must buy the potatoes from asda lol 😆.the price isn't a problem, it's the amount your getting for your money. Calling your customer a muppet isn't the reply you should be putting out there ,isn't professional at all is it .

Great value for money food lovely and fresh perfectly cooked friendly staff nice clean and tidy has some great offers on the menu if in the area would highly recommend

A local treasure. The chips were hot and fresh and delicious, The fish was outstanding. You even have two different types of curry sauce!!! That's amazing. Today was fish friday, I got a proper meal for under a tenner. Thank you Als Plaice. I will definitely return.

First time trying here and it’s safe to say I will be back foods tasty and fresh I tried the battered Nutella butty something I’ve never seen before but definitely recommend it

Great fish and chips, best in Winsford.

Went with my niece's at 3:30pm, straight after school. Chips were Lukewarm and clearly been re-fried cple of times. Only ate the sausage and few chips, threw the rest. Not even the seagulls would eat them! The staff shouting and balling at some teenagers outside the shop(high school uniform), one of the staff snatched (aggressively) the small speaker out of the young lads hands and tried to put it over the counter. Continued to shout at the young lad, on the customer side of the counter right next to my young niece's . The staff acted like a bunch of hyenas, shouting and laughing about the situation. Use to be a nice town chippy, will not be going back anytime soon. Only gave one star because it wouldn't let me leave zero!

Chips were cold, full of ‘eyes’ so the children wouldnt eat them due to this, tried picking some out but it was practically every chip. (Large portion and chip bap)

The best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten!!! Crispy and perfectly cooked fish and chips just how they should be and the fish melts in your mouth, thick old school gravy which I absolute love great to a see a fish and chip shop sticking to old traditional routes and not cutting corners like other chip shops, people complaining about waiting 20 minutes I understand but maybe that’s a good thing as the foods that good there’s demand so worth the wait, will definitely be coming back shame can’t be open at night

Terrible ordered steak pie and chips with gravy. Pie burnt to a cinder gravy thicker than custard. Chips ok. Didn't bother complaining young staff on so didn't need the hassle.

Recommended by family to come to this establishment.. Lovely welcoming staff.. But I'm. Afraid that's where it stops... Ordering... Easy.. Waited over 20 minutes... Not a joke! Although the server tried to keep the food warm under the steamer... The fish unfortunately was like warm which wasn't great it does put you off..as we're the peas and gravy and curry sauce Kept waiting on potatoe fritter they were hot so a plus Watched as people came in... All served at different times with their order's.. Obviously popular which is always a good sign... Unfortunately service lacking badly which puts you off... I'm told the restaurant is alot better but this has put me off and therefor honestly wouldn't recommend unless you're in no rush.... Or eating in restaurant or Uber... Sorry Al its a no from me

Foods nasty, had better fish and chips from a curry house. EDIT: Owner is a plum who says all negative reviews are fake but the amount of negative feedback says otherwise. Hopefully will shut down soon

Got an order and one of the young lads handed it out by accident so the young girl remade it and apologised great service

Just had chips from there . They were the worse chips I've ever had . Very pale and very hard. won't be recommending this chippy to anyone ..
