This was a gem found by pure chance. Stayed a couple of nights ate both evening meals there. Huge portions and served very hot. As you’d expect but not always get. Good real Ale. Very busy so if fining probably best to book. Rooms very in keeping with period. No skimping on heating. WiFi good. Shower also good and very clean. If I’m looking to moan a designated soap and shampoo is expected. The only complaint is the mattress. To protect from springs slept on duvet. A memory foam protector would no doubt rectify this. We would definitely stay again. And as everything else so good giving full marks.

From the moment we arrived we could not have asked for a warmer welcome. Now the owners have only owned the pub/restaurant and adjacent caravan site for 6/7 months, so the caravan site, whilst functional, is a work in progress. The showers are beautifully hot, the toilets clean and the pitches level. Now, as for the restaurant we cannot recommend highly enough. The food is outstanding, plentiful and priced fairly. The owner Ruth, and assistants Denise and Eve always serve with a cheerful smile and are always willing to have a quick chat. The chef and his team are brilliant and work tirelessly to present beautifully hot food which is totally delicious. Because I enjoyed a previous meal so much, on our last night they went out of their way to prepare me the same meal, and it wasn’t even on the menu - fantastic. We would rate our experience here as a 11/10 and we were truly spoiled here. We will be back.

Love this place, the rib room is downstairs in the beautiful Hardwick hall hotel & surroundings. The staff are fantastic & the sharing steak for two, was cooked to perfection, wow the whole meal was gorgeous. Nice area out of the way to have peace & quiet & so friendly & welcoming. After we took a walk near the lake & was really lovely to see two weddings happening in the hotel. We got married here 8 years ago & the standards of the hotel never change, just perfect.

Very good service. Very nice staff. The ice cream wasn’t bad. I should of had it in a tub but I had a cone. Recommended.

Ordered tea here for the first time. Food was lovely and good size portions. However the young girl behind let my experience now as soon as I walk through door she wanted to know what I wanted before I was allowed to browse menu then she spent most of the time playing or talking on her phone ignoring customers

Only wanted a bag of chips with scraps . Last who was serving only half listening as someone phoned order at same time. I got the most dried up manky chips I've ever had , also no scraps even though I asked twice . Will not be going back

I was here for an afternoon tea gathering for a large group of persons and I was SO disapppinted with the food and the service. The vegetarian tea had incredibly poor choices. I have had many vegetarian afternoon teas in the north east of England and this was the worst by a long way. Service was also very poor. The setting of this hotel is magnificent but the food and service was well below what you would expect from a hotel of this advertised quality.
