Great get together with friends

Visited at lunch time and service was quick and efficient. The bar staff were friendly and served quickly. The football was on which entertained the kids. Sadly points were lost as the locals were swearing so profusely that we wanted to leave with the children. Every other word in the bar began with an F... Which really ruined the atmosphere.

Was camping at Sedgefield racecourse the other wk and came across this pub. What can i say excellent staff and beer spot on plenty of locals in all friendly. It's also dog friendly and one of the locals shared his sausage roll with my dog. If ever I'm round that neck of the woods again that's my go to pub 👍🏻

Just popped in for a pint. An old school pub that likes sport of all sorts. Nice vibe and the car park round the back is useful.

Got rodded same round price went from £17.60 to £23 pound something when questioned a young lady about it all we got was that's the price. We wasn't local 😡👺🤬

We were visiting Sedgefield for 1 night and was passing the Golden Lion and heard they have sport on tvs. The staff were friendly enough everyone seemed to know each other. There were a couple of tvs and a snooker table. It was ok while passing for a quick drink in afternoon.

This is without doubt the best pub in Sedgefield. If you want an honest drink with non pretentious people this is the place for you.

Canny little pub, sat out front. Quickly served.

Typical village pub. Cosy environment plenty of seating, friendly bar staff. Plenty of TV screens to watch sports. Games room atvthe back with Pool table, cards table and dart board.

Very traditional place. Full of characters. Great place to watch the football when the Boro are on the TV. They even tolerate supporters of other clubs. Friendly staff, reasonable priced. Don't expect anything flash - its not that sort of place.

Awful, used to be a really nice pub but now full of all the dross the other pubs have barred. Won't be back

Located in a pretty village this pub has ample parking a nice atmosphere with friendly staff and a good range of beers .

Visited Sedgefield on my way to Durham. Chose here to stop for a pint as they had Black Sheep Ale. It was a mistake. Rowdy. Noisy. TV screens blaring out so called ‘Christmas Hits’ or just blank. Fighting amongst locals. And the beer was off. Avoid.

A proper 'locals' pub, very friendly and a few doggies in which was nice! The lady behind the bar was lovely, even going out of her way to make me a coffee, great service with a smile!

Call in today just for a quick drink, they've stopped doing food and now it's just the way it should be, a very good boozer. Prices are very reasonable too, Great atmosphere, just like the old days. Wish I lived nearer.

This is a decent pub on the main street in Sedgefield .It is clean and while it is slightly frayed around the edges is presentable enough. The food, served until 2pm was not bad value, £7.95 for a parmo which while it wasn`t the best i`ve had and was a little sloppy was fine in terms of taste and temperature and the portion size was good. The service was friendly and there is a separate dining area. Overall I`d probably come back here. There is on street parking close by.

Visited on holiday and found staff very helpful. Pub was nice and homely but we found the food was inconsistent. Some dishes were good but others only average. We would give them another chance and visit again in future if in that area.

It was like we took a step back in time, we called in for a drink after we had been out for a meal, the pub was quite busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, they had a bit of disco going on - we had a good time

Used to be a good locals pub but since the other village pubs have gone more upmarket it's now full of underage teenagers who shout, swear and carry on. Unless the management get a grip it will soon have a reputation it will find hard to change.

we stumbled across this lovely country pub on Sunday after a visit to Hardwick Park. The pub is situated in the heart of the village. We were greeted by helpful friendly staff, we were given a choice if seats in the restaurant. Very good menu, and very reasonable prices. The food was delicious, home cooked. very well presented, and served hot. we will definitely return.

After reading the reviews we thought that it sounded the perfect place to eat we were going to drive straight there but thought we had better check to see if we needed to book which was a good job as we were told that they do not do food on a Friday and Saturday

Came here after a long day just as the kitchen had shut down for the night. The lovely cook however went out of her way to rustle us up a delicious fresh fish and chips to which we were extremely grateful. Lovelely tradirional pub and freindly staff, highly recomended.

It's open late, it serves booze, it's a bit dated and has a very "old man pub" vibe. Nothing wrong with that if you've got a few good craft beers and good drinks options, but this place really is just old for a lack of updating rather than as a conscious choice. Does what it does well, just feels a little bit like stepping back time twenty years.

We dined here on Tuesday evening. I'm a vegetarian and the chef very kindly cooked me my favourite dish - mushroom stroganoff. It was the best mushroom stroganoff I've ever tasted it came with delicious homemade chunky chips and rice. Excellent service. I'll be back!

Although this pub is clean it is really a typical 'Northerners' pub i.e. horse racing on constantly, the bar is crowded with men who do not move away to make space for people trying to get a drink especially women. Not very friendly staff either...

Visited today after Enchanted Christmas at Hardwick Hall. Food was great, home made food (none of the frozen chain restaurant rubbish). Good and service were excellent and very reasonably priced! Would highly recommend!

Good pub, well equipped with sky sports on multi screens. Decent pint, well worth a visit. They sell a good range of ales along with a decent choice of food for either in the bar or the restaurant.

Visited with a group of friends for a birthday meal and the service was really good, the staff member looking after us continued to serve us well even though some of our group was rowdy . The price of the food was really good value...

Had a couple of really good pints of local-ish real ale, both beers were very well kept, and in good condition. Don't serve food on Monday's, so unable to eat there, and therefore no idea what the food is like.

Had another great Sunday lunch at the golden lion. Food is pipping hot, lots of fresh veg, tender meat, yorkshire and gravy. Service excellent. Outstanding value.
