Ate here while on a short trip in London. Food was of a decent standard and the upstairs surroundings pleasant. HOWEVER if they try to seat you in the basement, refuse. We were put there because it was busy. It is a souless pit. The floor is uneven so your tables constantly wobble. The music revererates around the walls and being away from the main part of the restaurant, the service is far less attentive. Worst of all, it stinks of paint. I assume this is a recent thing and hopefully temporary. Whoever decorated it has done an ambush makeover, even painting over the light-switches and sockets. A few items of cheap tat were arranged in an attempt to look rustic. It felt like a pop up restaurant challenge from The Apprentice. The paint fumes genuinely made me feel dizzy and the area is poorly ventilated. I had concerns about my young son who was with me (the restaurant also does not have a childrens menu and refused to do child portions). I asked to move a second time and did eventually get a seat upstairs thankfully. They need to wait till the paint fumes are gone or else someone is going to faint down there.

we had been at an event in Tavistock Square and spotted this across the road as we walked along. WE liked that it was independent and the menu looked good. We were not disappointed. The food was freshly cooked but we did not need to wait long, service was friendly and prices reasonable. One of us had deep fried calamari and the other a delicious chicken casserole. There as a tempting choice of desserts from the trolley and we chose apple pie.

It was my favorite place to have the typical English breakfast, but it has lost a lot in recent years. The food and ingredients are correct (somewhat bland) when before it was delicious. It is a place absolutely opposite to those for tourists, extremely simple and, I think, without a toilet. The girl who served us was friendly. The manager or owner, not so much, apart from wanting to charge us £4 more. Correct and economical option if you are there, in short.

We had the delicious sharing platter and a bottle of chenin blanc. Perfect for lunch and definitely enough! But Aneta our waitress made our time extra special. She was lovely, friendly, efficient, respectful, responsive and thoughtful. My daughter and I would definitely love to come back here largely because of her! Thank you Aneta!

The burger I had was very good. This was well presented. As an aside the noise level is really high and so you have to take this on board. Thankfully the food made up for this. The location is also good and I enjoyed my brief visit. I will go back again and try something else on the menu. So, if you are visiting Covent Garden or the surrounding are and want to try something different you should visit.

Had a lovely brunch and cocktail here sat outside in the sun. Great food, decent bloody Mary’s and a great location to watch the world go by. They have crammed in as many tables as possible inside so does get a touch loud but that’s ok. Only problem and cause of missing out on five stars is they have a single unisex toilet for the whole place, which makes it a bit awkward. Food is super tasty and they have a varied menu, everything is cooked well and served nicely

The family-run CaffeTropea in Russell Square is a stand-out gem of a cafe/restaurant. Set in purpose-built premises, it complements the rustic atmosphere of the huge Russell Square gardens beautifully, offering a civilised and relaxed recuperative retreat in the middle of Bloomsbury. The range of food us amazing, from full-on Italian dishes to traditional English breakfasts. When my wife and I visited the sun was shining and there was a light-hearted festive atmosphere in the open-air seating in front and to the side of the cafe. The smiling waiters added to the mood, relying on their own voices to find the right client for the dishes they brought forth. Our late-morning brunch was delicious and plentiful, and was exceptional value! We met several members of the (Italian) Tropea family, all cheerfully hard at work. The family has evidently run and staffed the cafe for three generations. A wonderful experience, to be repeated as often as we can!
