Tapping the Admiral in Camden

After complex numerical analysis and many pints, me and my friends truly believe this to be the best pub in London, phenomenal vibes, music always on point, gorgeous interior, easily accessible but in sleepy suburbia of Kentish town, great food from a lovely kitchen staff and one of the best real ale pubs in London offering a CAMRA discount, thoroughly recommend the pub quiz on Wednesdays and meeting the pub cat, Nelson.

Our favorite bar in Camden: a wide choice of beers on tap, a relaxed, authentic and unpretentious atmosphere (rare in this trendy neighborhood), friendly waiters and... A big, friendly cat who runs the place. This is the cheapest pub we have been to for such quality.

Very nice pub lovely stout I had in there. Unfortunately the bar lady came over and my friend had his baby in there sleeping in his parm and the last said you can't have kids in there after 8.00pm unfortunately I thought that was wrong so we left just after 8pm 10/02 absolutely better than last time fantastic drinks

Best pub in north London. Consistently at least 8 or so ales on pump. Bar staff and atmosphere are excellent. Beer garden is covered and cosy.

🚇 Kentish Town West 🍺 £6.20 Asahi This pub is located in a quiet backstreet between Camden Town and Kentish Town in Northwest London. The nearest station is Kentish Town West on the Mildmay Line. This unique looking pub was built in the 1850’s and was originally called The Trafalgar. This pub replaced The Castle Tavern which was demolished when the local area was redeveloped in the 19th century. Legend has it, after Horatio Nelson's death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, his body was stored in a barrel of brandy to preserve it during the long journey home. While en route to Gibraltar the crew of the HMS Victory tapped the barrel and would draw brandy through macaroni straws, to toast the Admiral. This is the origin of the term 'Tapping the Admiral'. This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub which is nautically themed. The servery is centrally located with the bar forming a “U” shape around it. Across the walls are an eclectic assortment of naval pictures, posters, bunting and a multitude of trinkets. One of my favourite features is the old Truman’s sign taking pride of place above a fireplace. There is plenty of seating throughout the pub including sought after stools around the bar. At the back of the pub is a comfortable beer garden which is partially covered. The beer line up is excellent, so much so that North London CAMRA have awarded Tapping the Admiral ‘Pub of the Year’ four times. There are eight cask ales, local London brews and premium beers to choose from. I decided on a pint of Asahi, my pint was great, price point was reasonable. The food is by @vibe_n_go who serve up authentic Caribbean cuisine plus Roasts on a Sunday. We arrived around 8.30pm on a pleasant spring evening in May. The pub was busy with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There was a lovely local feel to the pub with a mix of punters of all ages. The service was friendly with lots of banter toing and froing across the counter. The @tappingtheadmiral is a top tier pub that offers a superb traditional pub experience. Great pub, with amazing people both sides of the bar.✌🏾

On a rainy morning in Camden Town this pub gave me a Sunday moment of warmth and refreshment, in which I tried the famous Sunday roast, one of the most typical dishes of English Sunday lunch. I tried the lamb and chicken ones, with vegetables (a little raw and lacking in salt), mashed potatoes and the inevitable gravy. I also enjoyed an excellent apple crumble with custard cream. Environment of a typical pub, rivers of beer, but I went for the rhubarb, fireplace, good service and average prices.

As a Cask Ale drinker, this is one of my favourite pubs to drink in they always have a great range of ales on offer from low abv to a higher abv. The Ale is always of a high standard. Thanks.

Proper pub with a good choice of beer

Classy old boozer in west Kentish Town with eclectic and interesting range of real ales including a dark mild and v decent London Porter. Like some other veg pubs it has it's own therapy cat...always a good idea. Engaging staff and Jamaican burgers type food . Tasted good tho' limited choice at lunch time. Great set of Nelson memorabilia on the walls. Sat at a marvellous oak ( drop leaf ) table in the corner that they seemed to think was nowt special! We'll certainly go again, using the London Overground to nearby WKT station. Deserves it's place in the Holy Trinity of Kentish Town pubs! Ps great beer prices...well under £5:a pint with your Camra card!

Quite simply my favourite boozer in London. The people make this place as the bar staff are always willing to greet you with a smile and a little idle chat. Once you get to ordering their incredibly broad selection of beers, ales and liquor offers a smorgasbord of options which they’re more than willing for you to taste before committing. Cosy up next to Nelson the pub cat and tuck into one of their delectable homemade pies with lashings of gravy and mash. The Admiral has a special place reserved in my heart.

Quirky, comfy pub. Lovely staff and customers. The Sunday veggie roast was disappointing and not very hot but the atmosphere really made up for it. Was there as a big group and they were very accepting of our large drunken group. Fab place.

Traditional local backstreet boozer with good ales and friendly staff. Went here for a quiet pint on a Saturday afternoon after finding the nearby Southampton Arms rammed and loved it, definitely looking forward to spending some time here in the near future.

An exceptionally friendly pub from the owners of the well regarded Pineapple in Leverton street. Really good selection of ever changing well kept real ales, justifiably a repeated winner of the CAMRA North London pub of the year award. The gastro pub style food is good (better than the sister pub, The Pineapple's Thai menu). The bar service is always fast and the resident cat; Nelson, is often happy to be stroked.

A great pub, I loved the music-severe issue with the Guinness though, as a fellow publican I think it's a problem with the gas (no shade just as a helping hand, I'm also Irish)

Unfortunately they weren't doing food when I visited. Was there with a party of friends and was hoping to eat, but the beer was in good condition and the staff friendly and welcoming.

Gone downhill sadly. This used to be the best pub in the area. It’s been going downhill a while but especially so since they took on staff from the closed down Lady Hamilton. The staff ignore queue order and take their friend’s orders ahead of everyone else. They are mardy at best. I think most of them are just strung out and unprofessional. Food is decent but not enough to draw me in anymore.

We went as part of a running group.... Good selection of ales on tap us some tasty mulled cider. the landlord looked after our bags while we ran..... then we had a great roast meal for 18 quid

The Admiral is a perfect neighborhood bar a short walk from the craziness of Camden Market. The best cask ale selection I came across. Their drafts were constantly changing while I was there. They also do a phenomenal Sunday roast. Thanks so much for welcoming me in!

What's the point of booking a table if you are not going to honour it? Definitely not a women friendly place.

Had an amazing time here as usual. Great service from the team and the atmosphere is always warm and inviting. It’s a gem of a spot tucked away from the busy streets of Kentish Town and Camden. Can’t wait for winter as the fire is roaring and the pub cat looks more and more like the king he is.

Been here twice, both times wonderful. Nelson the pub cat is always around, keeping an eye on everything. Full of happy people enjoying a good pint or 4. Food here is excellent 👍

Great atmosphere with live music. I was lucky to see Whiskey Mick live with a guitar band playing some sea shanties. Had a lot of fun!

Lovely pub with good beer and cider. However, this is the second time we have had trouble with food orders. We had to wait over 1hr for food we had ordered, no warning, some of my party over 1.5 hrs. This also happened last time we ate here.

Good honest pub grub. I went here on a Friday night; If it's fair to say that it's a popular pub and a busy on Friday nights, then this is a successful local. It was very busy and had lots of the louder younger crowd in it (no doubt celebrating ensuing summer weekend ahead). The food is mostly well made burgers, I had the Lamb burger, Chips are chunky by default but everything was worth the wait. I'd be happy to return.

Friendly, chilled pub. Good beers and non alcoholic beer options. Lots of seating in cute courtyard and dog friendly too- What's not to like!
