What an amazing culinary experience. Food is some of the best I’ve tasted. The use of fresh produce paired with amazing staff knowledge makes for a wonderful experience. Joel and his team were super friendly and did a great job at looking after us. The okonomiyaki and the beef karaage were the standout and not to forget the wonderful homemade matcha ice cream. Would certainly recommend going and I will definitely be visiting again.

I recently had a wonderful experience visiting this authentic Japanese restaurant. We were hosted by Emma and Matthew, the owners of this lovely place. The service was impecable, everything was explained to us down to the smallest detail and the dishes ( the pancakes ) were prepared in front of us. To say that everything was delicious is not enough! We enjoyed every dish we ordered, from special Genman Cha tea, natto, special pancakes okonomi-yaki and ending with lovely desert Kyoto sundae. I was very impressed and would recomend Abeno restaurant to all lovers of Japanese food.

Daughter was turning 18 and wanted okonomyaki. Booked for a treat and didn't disappoint. Small restaurant but busy. Waiter/cook (not sure what to call him) was absolutely amazing. Food was really lovely and it was a great experience with the flat grills.

Took my dad here and we had a great time. All the staff were wonderful and the food was so warm and filling. It's a shame I can't give any more stars. I will definitely be coming back to this place.

I can't find the words to describe how good this place is... I'll keep it short - if you want to taste authentic Japanese cuisine while you're in the UK, you can't find a better place! It absolutely deserves a Michelin star! Hopefully, it will happen one day!

I've been here a few times and I don't get tired of watching the staff prepare the food on the hotplate on the table. Delicious food and a lot of options. You'll leave smelling food a little bit but it was not an issue for me. Make sure you book in advance.

Had an excellent meal here! Really loved everything and you can tell the staff really care for the product. I ordered natto and I actually really enjoyed it. Really is 'Japanese marmite'. Coffee is excellent. Desserts also excellent. If you love coffee you have to get their coffee jelly. Can't wait to come back and try more!

The best Okonomiyaki in London.

Impeccable. One of the best meals we've had in London. Flawless food & service. We usually go to Nobu but this was just as fresh and faultless. Absolutely amazing with our baby. The best 'baby' experience we have had dining out - both in London and all over the world. Thank you - we can't wait to come back.

We ordered deluxe seafood okonomiyaki and both of my friend and I had stomachache/diarrhea and vomit. We think the food wasn’t fresh at all.

I've been craving authentic Okonomiyaki for a long time, and finally found Abeno! I can tell it is very authentic and delicious! The only difference is probably the portion but I understand as it is central London price. Service was excellent and everything was just no frills. Coffee jelly and cinnamon ice-cream for a dessert was a perfect finish as well. I would love to visit here again with more friends so we can try different toppings next time! 💜

Absolutely incredible food and friendly service. The flavors, the freshness, the variety—all superb. We came with little idea of what to order and how much, but the waiters kindly explained and made recommendations according to our preferences. The food was mixed, stirred, and cooked real time in front of us while we enjoyed our starters. I am most impressed by the flavors. Indeed I think I have never had such a tasty meal. I am also very happy with how friendly and professional everyone was. Even small things like thanking us for coming and asking us how our food was go a long way. Overall, a perfect experience. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Overpriced and Over rated for what it is. Okonomiyaki is just an Omelet with veg or meat and seafood. They don't cook like in Hiroshima or like on YouTube. Prices are so high for portions. I have tried in Jeux Jeux and the is better like Hiroshima style. It's not worth going unless you got money to throw. Sorry I m disappointed for what hopes I had with ratings. Never again rip off for what it is.

Although the shop front is unassuming, Abeno has a welcoming, clean and cosy atmosphere where the staff greet you cheerfully upon entering. The staff are polite and helpful, happy to talk you through recommendations and explain the shop's specialties and the ordering process. Our server, Matthew, attended to us diligently and with a smile, patiently explaining the ingredients, ordering and cooking process; even allowing us to practice our meagre Japanese with him. The menu is available in English or Japanese, via a QR code on the table. As a handy bonus, all the staff appear to be bilingual so there'll be no communication issues whether you're English or Japanese. The menu is varied and authentic, offering many delicious variations of Okinomiyaki -(this was the first Okinomiyaki specialty restaurant established anywhere in Europe, I'm told)- along with many other classics of Japanese fare. We ordered the chicken Karaage, a beautifully elevated version of this classic izakaya staple featuring a yuzu pepper seasoning (which I regret not asking for the recipe of) along with the tempura which was light, crisp and airy, not heavy at all, and the dipping sauce it came with was savoury and complimentary. For our mains, of course, we had Okinomiyaki. One Osaka and one Tokyo flavour- these were both delightful and well made, and having them be cooked on the grill in front of you is a joy, bringing an authentic yet deeply personal feel to the meal. It is definitely worth a try if you've never had it- Abeno's ingredients are all organic and it definitely feels much more like something I could eat every day than the usual high-sodium japanglish food available in most London eateries. They make truly beautiful food here! Speaking of beautiful food, don't skip out on the pudding. Gorgeous sundaes, hotcakes and even more traditional Japanese desserts like red bean anmitsu await you- extremely rare for this type of specialty restaurant! Some desserts available include homemade mochi (I had the anmitsu with this in and I can honestly say I was genuinely upset to finish eating it) and house-made matcha ice cream- almost everything here is organic and made from scratch & in house. All in all this is now one of my favourite restaurants, and made all the more special by Matthew and the other wonderful staff who were knowledgeable, attentive and cheerfully diligent with caring for us, even without a reservation. Thanks a lot everyone & we'll see you again soon!

The staff were all lovely, welcoming and explained everything to us. The food was all amazing, and having them cook the okonomiyaki in front of us was a great experience. Would give more stars if possible.

Dinner with family. I have been in Japan multiple times and I must acknowledge that the food is as real as it gets. I felt throw back in time when biting on the okonomiyaki and the birken sundae was just an explosion of flavours. I would go back any time if I would not be in Singapore where I live. Best Japanese in London. I used to live in Osaka, Japan, and this restaurant is as authentic as it gets. Best okonomiyaki, so tasty.

I saw Abeno is famous for the it’s okonomiyaki (Japanese tepanyaki pancakes) but I wasn’t sure how good their vegan version would be - I was pleasantly surprised! The vegan okonomiyaki is cooked on a flat top grill on the table in front of you and the chef explains all ingredients used for the dishes as he makes them. The okonomiyaki came with 2 sides and vegan mayo. All tasted quite good and the dishes complemented each other well. The menu overall had a good range of options for vegan/vegetarians. Bit on the pricey side, but worth the experience. I would recommend booking in advance as it does get quite busy.

During my two week stay in London, I went to eight Japanese restaurants, and of all the Japanese restaurants, Abeno was the best in my opinion. The owner's family offers heartfelt customer service, reasonable prices, and an effort to rotate seats to maintain this. The quality of the performance of making okonomiyaki in front of customers, and the taste of the food. While there are few restaurants overseas that can serve 100% pure Japanese food, I admire the efforts that have been made in England for over 30 years since 1993. It was delicious.

Very cozy restaurant, the table have a flat top in the middle where they will cook your okonomiyaki in front of you. The service was friendly and accommodating to dietary requirements. The price is on the slightly expensive side but it is well worth the experience.

Came for a pre-theatre dinner after hearing about this place from friends. The staff were friendly and helpful in recommending items on the menu. Between four of us, we ordered two okonomiyaki (one large, one regular), two side dishes, and a yakisoba, which was the perfect amount. The okonomiyaki and sides were cooked on the teppanyaki grill in the middle of the table, which was a really cool experience. I was very grateful that they allowed us to swap an ingredient in one of the pancakes, and they seem to be very accommodating for dietary requirements and preferences. We tried a red rice ale for the first time, which was very sweet and paired very well with the savoury food. Overall a very good meal and experience with fast service (especially as it was a Saturday!). I think that this sort of dining benefits from having a group of at four people so that you can try lots of different dishes, but I can also see it working for a cute date night.

A must go if you like Japanese food. It’s not only good but a bit of cultural experience seeing staff cooking right in front of you. You must try their salty pancakes!

The food was not good, simply put. The okonomiyaki was dry and tasteless. All the side dishes tasted old and stale. Spinach was particularly bad. Staff not friendly almost rude. All the portions were extremely small and stingy. Very poor dining experience and waste of money. Sorry

Really cool place. It's not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for. Osaka Style Okonomiyaki is a real treat and the pleasant staff make the process a real treat.

Very welcoming and friendly, excellent service, interesting food genuine Japanese concept, lovely experience. Much appreciated the advice we we were given on our choices. In particular would highly recommend the tempura, small bits of prawn and shredded veg combined - delicate, delicious. Dumplings perfectly made. Drink warm Sake and gallons of water!! Excellent for various dietary including vegan. It's a family business, they work hard and deserve every success and accolade.

Simply delicious okonomiyaki. Really comparable to Japan

Wonderful Okonomiyaki, service and experience. Many options to choose from and you can even get Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki with noodles. There's vegan options available and like any great Japanese restaurant there's so many brilliant drinks to choose from. Everyone from the staff was really nice and helpful. This place brought us back to the fond memories we have from traveling through Japan. Definitely recommend it!

The only Abeno currently, providing amazing okonomiyaki and would definitely recommend that as the dish to get if it's your first visit.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We are gluten free and there was a good selection on the menu and the staff checked on sauces with us. The Ebi Itame and Hiyayakko for us and Chicken Kaarage for the kids were very good. We had a couple of gluten free okonomiyaki which were also very nice and cooked in front of us. The plum soda also hit the spot. Booking is essential but I would highly recommend!

Superb discovery! This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who had already had the opportunity to try it during a stay in London. All ingredients are quality/organic. The atmosphere is excellent. You are greeted by all the staff upon your arrival and upon your departure, in the Japanese style. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. The food was delicious, my palate discovered some new flavors! I advise you to do it well in advance if you want to reserve a table, they seem to have a lot of demand! Price-wise, we got it for around $60 for two (£30 per person: 2 starters, an Okonomiyaki, a drink, no dessert). I highly recommend this restaurant!

Recommended by a Japanese friend. Four of us went, including another Japanese friend. We ordered 2 staters and okonomiyaki. The okonomiyaki were above my expectations, not too oily. All the dishes were delicious and the menu says food is organic. The vegetable on-soba was just right, sauces were well balanced. The only drawbacks are the narrow aisles in the restaurant and since food is cooked in front of you, you come out smelling like a chef. We will return to try out the rest of their extensive menu and pancakes. Booking is a must, the take a deposit in advance, it’s ver popular.

Great food, great staff, small and cosy, not bad pricing for the experience

We visited at lunch time and fortunate enough to get a table in this cozy yet limited-space restaurant. I’ve ordered an om-soba, and gyoza. The gyoza are cooked before our eyes which is very interesting. The om-soba presented nicely and the seasoning just perfectly balanced. We’ll definitely come again for the matcha ice cream :)

This place is INCREDIBLE! 6 stars! Well done! Food amazing! So delicious. Cooked at the table! The staff were so kind! We walked in with no booking but they managed to get us a table after a short wait. It was our first time and they took the time to explain he menu in great detail and did t make us feel silly for not understanding. The man cooking for us at the table was really lovely. The food really was an experience. It all was! At the end all the staff thanked us for coming and said good bye. I wish there was one of these in bracknell! I'd love to go again and try more of the menu! It's a must visit!

Lovely little restaurant a stone's throw from the British Museum. Some dishes are cooked at the table, on the large central plate. In addition to the excellent preparations, the attentive and kind service is striking. A place to return to!
