The Ninth in Camden

I unfortunately can’t recommend this restaurant. We went for the midday 3-course menu. There was nothing special about it. For starters we had the fish carpaccio and spaghetti, fish was nice, spaghetti had nothing special that you could not get anywhere else. For mains we had the gnocchi and pork shoulder. Half the pork serving was fat, and the meat was tough, had a nice flavour, but nothing making it special. Gnocchi was the best meal, they were toasted o. The outside and soft on the inside, very nice sauce. Dessert we had the French toast, very nice caramelisation and soft core. The disappointment comes from being a Michelin restaurant, the dishes did not seem elevated or innovative. Service was very kind and attentive.

The dishes we had were delicious. Up there with Michelin grade food. The pork dish in particular was as good as I’ve tasted that meat cooked. The problem here was the service. It was disinterested and unprofessional in so many small ways. The one big way was that we sat for twenty minutes before having our order taken. That should never happen. None of the staff are rude but everything they do falls short of top standard and often falls short of basic service levels. Their dress code of jeans and trainers is absolutely fine if you deliver elite service levels. If you provide poor service the dress code grates as it appears a reflection of shoddy, disinterested, unprofessional attitudes. A few small examples that all add up over the course of a meal: - waitress takes order but is looking away into the distance at other tables. Clearly paying no real attention. - waiter picks up dirty and discarded serviette and folds it up, then replaces it on the table in front of me with dirty stains showing. Is it that wild an idea to replace it with a fresh serviette? - waitress picking up my empty plates from the table whilst my partner is still eating her main course. - When bill is delivered and card placed down, the waitress looked at the table twice and then proceeded to pick up plates and cutlery to lay some other tables. This is at the end of the night so there were no customers expected. It was just to prepare the tables for the following day. She even came back, glanced at the bill again and then picked up glasses to finish preparing the other tables. These might seem small things but seriously this is Michelin starred food at a top price whilst the service is half arsed and they appear untrained. It really ruins the experience and does a disservice to the chefs.

Exceptional food and service, with a personal touch from the staff.

The welcome was lukewarm, with no real interest in how I was doing. I wasn’t offered a drink before being asked about food, and there were no recommendations offered. This was a shame as a side with the main was really needed, and I would have ordered, had it been suggested. The crab tartlets were tasty, though I was surprised they were served hot, which made the tartlet case a bit soggy. The seabream carpaccio, however, was simply delicious. Used cutlery left on the table until the main came - not ideal, and had to ask for replacement. The pork shoulder was flavorful but tough to cut in places - a steak knife would have been useful. Some gristly bits were too much and had to be left. The grilled chanterelle mushrooms and pickled cobnuts were well-balanced, but there was no follow-up to check how the food was. I might have asked for a side if they had. The portion of meat was a bit too large. Less meat and another vegetable on the plate would have made it feel like a more well rounded dish. I was given a recommendation for dessert (after asking). This pud was pleasant and I enjoyed it. Offered coffee, however no alternative milks are available (I drink oat), so no thanks. While paying, no ask on how my meal was. I agree with other reviews to some extent, that while I’m not bothered so much about the dress code, the overall service here does seem to fall below par for a one star. Regardless if you’re here for the set lunch menu (which I was) or à la carte in the evening. Would I be back, highly doubtful. Would I recommend, not particularly.

Weekday evening meal on 16th October 2024. Fair food, ambience, and service, but lighting too dim to read the menu. Resorted to using the torch on my mobile phone. Nothing deserving of a Michelin star - surprised they have one! No wow factor at all for any aspect. Presentation of food was mediocre. Food prices are inflated, I suppose because of the one Michelin star rating. Waiters wear jeans, and two were wearing trainers. Not even smart casual. Customers were all more smartly dressed than waiters. Well below expectations overall, and wouldn't want to go back. Many no star restaurants perform better than this one. My rating is based on expectations for a star rated restaurant, hence the disappointingly low grade. Oh dear!

Good experience to have birthday lunch. The staff are very friendly and good services. Lunch set is so delicious. I highly recommand the spaghetti starter, Crab & Seaweed Tartlets, Pain Perdu & Tonka Bean Ice Cream, Crème Freiche Ice Cream & Praline those are so so yummy.

My husband and I enjoyed an exceptional evening meal here on Friday the 11th of October. We sat upstairs and were treated to amazing food and wonderful service. A memorable evening.

I had gotten a new job in London and was flat searching, so thought I’d treat myself. The girl server was so lovely and brought me out a ‘congratulations’ desert free of charge, as well as being super welcoming! Highly recommend!

We took the chef's menu and every single item was wonderful. The dishes are flavourful and balanced, I can't think of one thing that was "just ok". We finished everything because it was too good to leave a single crumb... and had to roll home !

Super chilled out fine dining with rock solid food! Every dish was delicious, the lunch set menu is very reasonably priced for the food on offer, every dish sang a different tune, every plate worked well together. Would recommend!

Birthday meal. Elegant and very tasty. Michelin star restaurant but not super expensive. I love everything about the place: fantastic food and drinks, attentive service, atmosphere and clean bathroom. Excellent choice for a nice occasion. I would recommend it for a casual meal too if you can afford it. I would like to come back.

I would highly recommend The Ninth. Each plate is beautifully presented, making for an enjoyable visual and culinary experience. The ambience is warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy decor that creates a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are attentive and extremely welcoming.

This place truly surprised me in the best way possible! I ordered a toast that, honestly, was divine. Easily one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The meat was incredibly tender, and every single ingredient tasted so fresh, you could tell with every bite. The waitresses were super attentive, always ready to guide you through the menu with a smile. Without a doubt, I'll be coming back!

Amazing food, so flavourful and a very friendly staff. Mushroom Spaghetti was awesome, and some really good starters like Sourdough with Butter, Tomato Salad etc. We went for a team dinner and we had an amazing time. Probably the most budget friendly Michelin restaurant in the area.

A lovely relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff, great wine pairings and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. We have the chefs tasting menu which was delicious, the pain perdu was the highlight. Would highly recommend.

The lunch menu is incredible value for a Michelin-star experience. We had the hake and the poussin and they were delicious. And wine by the glass was around 10-15 pounds. The team have such passion and are so nice, thank you. Can't wait to revisit!

Really yummy food and amazing service. Very attentive and engaging staff, who were happy to provide recommendations and information about the dishes. Highly recommend the beef cheek and tongue starter, and the pain perdu dessert!

Is pain pardu worth the hype? Absolutely, it's perfect. Impeccable service, too.

Amazing technique, exceptional service by Artur and others. Faultless from start to finish, the Cacio E Pepe was unlike any I’ve had before. All three courses for £35 were amazing value, and so comforting.

Disappointing I had heard very good things about this restaurant and so brought several friends with me. Our service was very sweet but we seem to be forgotten compared to the table next to us which meant that we were only just getting our dessert at closing time. We all opted for the tasting menu, which I think is a poor decision. For a Michelin restaurant with a tasting menu, I would expect delicate, well presented, and complex dishes. Instead while everything was quite tasty, it was all served as small dishes meaning one had to serve oneself and it looked a mess on the plate. I am afraid it’s not a restaurant to which I will be returning.

Wonderful food, the panzanella made me dream and will remain among the few dishes that truly amazed me. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, informal but refined environment, very, very good dishes. I often eat in starred restaurants and I will remember this

Food is on the saltier side, not with a lot of layers. Lamb tastes very game-y and the sauce did not exactly compliment the meat. Most of the dishes have simple seasonings.

Slow service, rubbish food, expensive (£140 a head) for mediocre culinary experience. I would not recommend.

Racist staff. Refused us entry because of the colour of our skin. We rang a few mins later from outside in order to make a reservation and they said they've got availability. Surprise surprise. Turned up and they let us in.

Four of us enjoyed lunch on the terrace yesterday. What a treat. The food was exquisite. Sea trout, risotto, hake, pain perdu. All beautifully cooked and presented. The lunch menu is excellent value. Relaxed atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. Delightful helpful service. Fun location. We are already planning a return visit. This is a very special place. Highly recommended.

The place is cute, the food is well prepared with really good ingredients and the neighborhood is so nice to walk! For michelin-star I was expecting a little bit more but, of course, everything was really tasty. The desserts and the tortellini’s were amazing! Be aware that the corkage fee is £40 (expensive for London) but they have a good selection of wines as well.

Excellent food and service, really enjoyed my time and experience at the Ninth! We came for the lunch set and the food was flavoursome, well-seasoned and tasteful. I especially enjoyed the mousse from my smoked trout starter, the duck ragu starter, pain perdu dessert and yuzu pear collins cocktail. The service was also extremely welcoming, professional and the staff were highly attentive to all tables. As an added bonus, all of the staff had lovely smiles on their faces and the courses came at the perfect time/intervals. Would 10/10 recommend this restaurant to everyone and looking forward to returning soon!

I’ll be honest, probably one of my more disappointing experiences. Food was average at best. No stand out flavours. The service was poor and I hope it was just the day but it set the mood for the entire evening. Overall I’d choose somewhere else, but who knows, may have changed.

The Ninth is a Michelin star restaurant, so I was expecting something really nice. The service was great, and the place is cute. However, the food itself wasn’t amazing—I’d say it was just okay. My starter had more pasta than duck, while the person I was with had more duck than pasta, and my main course had a fish bone in the fish. The price was really good though; we took the “set lunch menu,” which was only £30 for 2 dishes.

Taken here for a business dinner and what a dinner it was, Scallops followed by Duck followed by Pain Perdu. Just wonderful. Full of flavour, amazing combination of ingredients and served in beautiful surroundings by lovely staff. What more could you want!

Nice experience. I can’t say the food was perfect, it was nice but the risotto disappointed us unfortunately. The desserts are amazing, you must try the pain perdu and the pavlova! The service is great!

Very good service. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The set lunch was good value. The quality of food was good. The dishes do look a bit small in portion but they were actually enough. We were full by the third course. It was my husband’s birthday and they served him ice cream and he was also given a card. When we wanted to add tips to our bill, the waiter was very frank and honest and pointed out that service charge had already been included and wanted to confirm that we wish to add additional gratuity. We like the style and surroundings in the restaurant.

Just perfect in every way! We celebrated our anniversary here and could not have been happier. Every single dish on the tasting menu was utterly delicious and perfectly balanced. The wine pairing was also absolutely on point with some very interesting options. The staff were beyond lovely. Super engaging and knowledgeable about the food/wine, but not in your face. They even brought us a little gift of some of the delicious sauce that came with the potato dish. When you read through the menu ahead of time it sounds like a very classic menu, but its not. It’s classic elevated to a whole different level, with touches of Japanese accents. It’s just a perfect experience at the right price point in a great location. We’re already planning our next visit.

I had an exceptional dining experience at Ninth! The Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and paired with special potatoes that were absolutely delicious. The highlight of the meal was the incredible Pain Perdu, which I highly recommend. The service was outstanding; the staff were knowledgeable and accommodating, especially with my dietary restrictions due to pregnancy. They took great care to explain the menu and suggest suitable options. I didn’t have any alcohol, but the attention to detail and customer care was impeccable. I highly recommend Ninth for an unforgettable dining experience!

One of our favourite restaurants in London. We have been many times and the food is always outstanding. The pork main course currently on the menu is the best pork I have ever eaten!

We went for lunch together and opted for the lunch menu priced at £35 per person, offering a three-course meal. The reservation process was very easy, and the staff were fantastic. The food was amazing; I've never eaten anything so delicious. Everything was perfect – the taste, the texture, the harmony. Next time I'm in London, I will definitely return to dine, and I look forward to trying the chef's choice, either the 7 or 9-course menu.

Came for lunch and received a very friendly, attentive and charming service by all staff members. Ordered cocktails as an aperitif. Was disappointed by how minuscule the clarified margarita was for £15. When your pre-lunch cocktail arrives as a thimble, it’s rather off putting. The food was fine. Perfectly tasty, very salty. Nothing refined. Nothing you won’t get elsewhere for less money. There were two deserts on the set menu and, although we were the second table to arrive for lunch, the Almfi lemon cake had already “sold out”. I wanted to like this restaurant and I recognise that you don’t get the full Michelin star experience for lunch, however, I’ve been to many similar places over the years and it’s just not worth bothering with. Far more interesting restaurants in this city. Meh.

Staff were friendly and engaging providing us with a wonderful free sorbet for our anniversary. The food was delicious very reasonable set 2 or 3 course menu for 25/30 the pork neck and duck ragi especially delicious.

Food is outstanding and only rivaled by the caring and joyous staff — they are a delight! We went for dinner and had the Yellowtail and Salted Beef Cheek & Tongue starters — both incredible and would absolutely recommend. From the mains, we tried the Iberico Pork Pluma and the Glazed Duck Breast — each cooked to perfection and full of flavor. We ended with their specialty — Pain Perdu which also was fantastic. Would definitely visit again!

We had a lovely time. Went well over our 2hour slot and did not feel rushed at all, even after the kitchen closed they made an effort with bringing us an amazing dessert congratulating us on our anniversary. Great food and service with an added special touch.

The food was delicious - we had the set menu and had vegetarian options. The flavours were exceptional. The lemon curd donut was just the perfect finish to the meal. The champagne match for the main course was perfect. The service was superb enough, discrete and warm. We were not hurried in any way which meant a lot to us as old friends catching up.

I had just read a review for the specific restaurant, and i was curious to see it first hand. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Really inspiring . I had the iberico pork with wild asparagus and my wife the duck breast. As a starter, we had the beef cheeks. Everything was lovely, especially the cheeks. These are really reoccomended. What was exceptional, though, was their service. The people there, i personally believe, made the difference. Well done, guys! See u again. Date of visit 18.05.24 noon.

Doesn’t deserve 1 star…. Long waiting time between course…

Had a great evening and delicious food. We chose the chefs menu and it was fantastic. Several dishes were ones that wouldn’t normally be my go to but was so surprised as loved every course.The tuna with amalfi lemons just a wonderful start, pasta dish with morel mushrooms my favourite I think (would never normally order pasta), the sole beautifully cooked and the pork so tender and flavoursome. Lastly the pain perdue was so light and crispy and definitely not the heavy dessert I was concerned about. A new favourite! We also had the wine pairing…great flavours and matches. Again not wines we would normally choose. The only slight improvement was a little bit more enthusiasm and explanation on these would have been great. I get you don’t want too much and come over pompous but it is that extra expense and we always like to learn a little about why those particular wines were chosen.

Exceptionally good from starters to desserts. My absolute favourites were Crispy Risotto Primavera, Broad Beans, Asparagus & Tropea Onion, and Courgette Flower Tempura, Pecorino & Wild Garlic Aioli. The desserts were also wonderful : I sampled Pain Perdu, Tonka Bean Ice Cream, and enjoyed Poached Pear & Yoghurt Ice Cream. Wonderful service, and beautiful setting.

Everything about the Ninth is an experience never to forget. From the service to the melt in your mouth Yellow Fin and the wine, every element is very well thought through. The food is absolutely sublime. We celebrated our anniversary at the Ninth and could not recommend it more.

We sat at the bar and had the tasting menu. From the moment we walked in the door until we left the service was exceptionally professional and friendly. The vibe in the place was perfect. The food was delicious especially the fish. Every course was exceptional and the wine pairings were spot on. Good value, excellent food and exceptional service. Highly recommend.

The food was fabulous. Deliciously tasty, delightfully presented and the matching wines superb. The staff were also wonderful - courteous and friendly - they made an impact. Superb, all round.

Good food (had a 2-course lunch menu) in a simple setting - good for a casual lunch with friends or colleagues

Fabulous welcome from the lady from Liguria. Immediately showed a sense of fun while being professional. Then we received the same enthusiasm from our waitress, also from Italy. Couldn't have been more impressed with both of them. Would actually come back because of them. The food was also great and the wine list was pretty on the mark too.

Followed by the Michelin guide, I am keen to experience food at the Ninth. The service from the staff is brilliant. I really appreciate it till the end of my dining time. The food caught my interest before I arrived at the restaurant. I was looking for the salted beef. It was amazing. The meat is so tender and full of flavour, really recommend it for those who wondering to try it. ☺️ Coming to the main part, the main dish. I ordered two plates, one was the role deer and the second one was a vegetable dish, the roast king oyster mushroom. Both of them were magnificent. Trying deer is a whole new experience. No fishy smell at all. The meat is soft with a rich flavour from the sauce. While the mushroom is ok. It had the same components as the deer, being a good option for vegetarians. Lastly, the Pain Perdu was amazing. The toast is so soft including an ice cream to fill in your mouth. A great combination to end the day. But the poached pear is too sweet. But the yoghurt ice cream can help to reduce that sweetness. Looking forward to coming back and exploring new dishes✨

For a 1 Michelin star restaurant was underwhelmed. Had tasting menu & some dishes very good & some ok. Seating not especially comfortable & service patchy. Being very picky having eaten in some excellent restaurants both starred & other. Didn’t like concept of sharing dishes on tasting menu so had to effectively serve ourselves. Was slightly messy & awkward. Overall just not blown away but food generally pretty good.

Food didn’t wowed me, nothing wrong with the cooking but the taste profile and presentation didn’t shout one Michelin star to me. The restaurant was busy and very noisy, we have to raise our voice to have a conversation

Has a Michelin Star for a reason. The risotto was delicious. I could not believe the flavor. It was also surprisingly filling. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and accommodating. Great experience.

It was a very lovely place with a definite personal attitude and a very intimate ambience. From this point of view it was a Michelin experience. However, the food (we tried several different dishes from starters to mains) was rather standard and even average. Yes, the bill came very low for a Michelin venue (at level of any simply good London restaurant), but why the star then? Nearby Lima for example has only a basic Michelin recommendation, but it gives you much more of gourmet experience for less.

Good food, or I should say, really good food 😊

We popped in to the Ninth for a mid-week lunch, and had the three course set menu. I had the sardine spaghetti to start, the duck with tarbais beans and cavolo nero for main, and gruyère alpage cheese to finish. I particularly enjoyed the main, but all dishes were delicious and perfectly portioned. The staff were super attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Certainly recommended!

The Ninth had been on our "to visit" list for a while and we had the set lunch option (£30 for two courses or £35 for three courses). The choice is quite limited, just two of each course, so it may be restrictive for some diners. The sardine spaghetti starter was lovely as was the artichoke salad and both mains ( duck leg and roast pumpkin) were nice. We both had a nice piece of gruyere for dessert. All the food tastes and looks good and is quite inventive. There is a short well chosen wine list with plenty of choice that won't break the bank. Service is efficient and friendly. With a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, teas and coffees the bill was just below £150 for two which we thought was pretty good value for money. We would certainly go back. As to whether a Michelin star is warranted person I think the jury is still out!

Excellent food and services! Very pleasant atmosphere.

Came for dinner and had the tasting menu. While the presentation and ingredients were a of very high standard, most of the dishes were looked a lot better than they tasted. The duck was excellent and the desert was very enjoyable but everything else was rather underwhelming. Service was ok and it wasn’t very busy though that was fine as we were a table of 4.

Good food but the dessert and bread were the highlight of the meal for me. The winter truffle pasta was not strong. The truffle shavings had very little flavor which was disappointing which made the pasta taste like boxed macaroni and cheese but less flavor. The starter snacks and salad on the fixed menu were amazing. The meal started strong but was just not stacking up on the mains. The sole was good but the miso broccoli was more impressive. Duck dish was good. Pain perdu was fantastic. Service was great but feels more casual and relaxed in this sense.

Last night we went with friends for an anniversary. The food was good but we felt it lacked something, the soughbread was average, the vegetarian pumpkin dish was average. Ibérico pork was very good and so was the fish. The staff were nice and friendly but could have been slicker, we waited 40 minutes and then had to ask them to take our order. So nearly there!

Food was lovely. Ordered the set menu for 4 people and we were shown great service by Tamsin. She was very attentive - we were allowed to order half duck breast, half pork and she even brought us an extra dessert as she overheard that my partner was celebrating her promotion (which was not mentioned on the booking). I go to Michelin star restaurants for the food, but also the calm atmosphere. Food was good (although not as refined as other Michelin starred restaurants I've been to) but for the price it was acceptable. The biggest problem was the NOISE! There was a big birthday party happening in the room next to us. Apparently this is a regular occurrence. They were so loud for our entire meal, singing and applauding. Not the calm atmosphere my friends and I were looking for, and certainly not deserving of a Michelin star. They should have kept these guests to themselves away from earshot of other guests - the flimsy curtain did nothing to dampen the racket! Kicking myself for not asking for something off the bill - was not offered despite my chat with the manager.

What a great experience! We pretty much tried the entire lunch menu and every course was so yummy. The duck agnolotti and truffle pasta was unreal! Service was exceptional, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Definitely will visit again!

The first time I ate here I had a wonderful meal from the a la carte selection and I was excited to return. The second time I came, in January 2024, I ordered from the tasting menu. Sadly, this did not work out so well for me, partly because I have celiac disease so I can't consume gluten. I appreciate that I am the one that is broken, not the restaurant, and that the restaurant has no requirement to cater for my dysfunction. However, it proved too difficult to make satisfactory adaptions to the tasting menu, with dishes being made gluten-free "by omission". I am sure this is an excellent restaurant for those without dietary restrictions.

We had a wonderful lunch. Everything was flawless. Thank you we will come back soon. 17/02/24 I wanted to make an update as we had recently visited as a group of 8. This restaurant is simply outstanding IMO. We had the chefs menu and it was all incredible. Cant wait to go back!!

There's nothing wrong with The Ninth, it was a perfectly pleasant meal but there was nothing outstanding about it either and given the prices, I expected more and maybe high expectations were the problem. The decor and ambience is really nice and the staff make you feel very welcome. We chose a number of dishes to share though I'd warn people to order slightly more than we did as the dishes aren't large. Between the two of us we ordered the crispy artichoke with aoli, truffle pasta, cauliflower with walnuts, hispy cabbage, dover sole and the pain perdu. The artichoke, truffle pasta and pain perdu were all very good and we'd both strongly recommend them. The Cauliflower, Hispy Cabbage and Dover Sole were all a bit 'meh'. Nothing wrong with them, well cooked, but nothing remarkable either. I'm an average cook and I think I could probably replicate the dishes to a similar standard. Whilst it's a great setting and the food is good, it wasn't outstanding and where we were left disappointed was that the prices are very high relative to the quality. Generally when we spend £200+ on a meal for two at a restaurant, we walk away with a few dishes that we'll remember for some time but at The Ninth, I think we'll forget it relatively quickly.

In short, good food. Nothing was disappointing. Food was tasty, fresh, well seasoned. The best dishes were the carpaccio beef, the potatoes and the chocolate cremo. Having said all that, no dish was *exceptionally* amazing. For a Michelin restaurant we expected slightly more than that.
