Food is on the saltier side, not with a lot of layers. Lamb tastes very game-y and the sauce did not exactly compliment the meat. Most of the dishes have simple seasonings.

The place is cute, the food is well prepared with really good ingredients and the neighborhood is so nice to walk! For michelin-star I was expecting a little bit more but, of course, everything was really tasty. The desserts and the tortellini’s were amazing! Be aware that the corkage fee is £40 (expensive for London) but they have a good selection of wines as well.

Excellent food and service, really enjoyed my time and experience at the Ninth! We came for the lunch set and the food was flavoursome, well-seasoned and tasteful. I especially enjoyed the mousse from my smoked trout starter, the duck ragu starter, pain perdu dessert and yuzu pear collins cocktail. The service was also extremely welcoming, professional and the staff were highly attentive to all tables. As an added bonus, all of the staff had lovely smiles on their faces and the courses came at the perfect time/intervals. Would 10/10 recommend this restaurant to everyone and looking forward to returning soon!

The Ninth is a Michelin star restaurant, so I was expecting something really nice. The service was great, and the place is cute. However, the food itself wasn’t amazing—I’d say it was just okay. My starter had more pasta than duck, while the person I was with had more duck than pasta, and my main course had a fish bone in the fish. The price was really good though; we took the “set lunch menu,” which was only £30 for 2 dishes.

Very good service. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The set lunch was good value. The quality of food was good. The dishes do look a bit small in portion but they were actually enough. We were full by the third course. It was my husband’s birthday and they served him ice cream and he was also given a card. When we wanted to add tips to our bill, the waiter was very frank and honest and pointed out that service charge had already been included and wanted to confirm that we wish to add additional gratuity. We like the style and surroundings in the restaurant.

Just perfect in every way! We celebrated our anniversary here and could not have been happier. Every single dish on the tasting menu was utterly delicious and perfectly balanced. The wine pairing was also absolutely on point with some very interesting options. The staff were beyond lovely. Super engaging and knowledgeable about the food/wine, but not in your face. They even brought us a little gift of some of the delicious sauce that came with the potato dish. When you read through the menu ahead of time it sounds like a very classic menu, but its not. It’s classic elevated to a whole different level, with touches of Japanese accents. It’s just a perfect experience at the right price point in a great location. We’re already planning our next visit.

Came for lunch and received a very friendly, attentive and charming service by all staff members. Ordered cocktails as an aperitif. Was disappointed by how minuscule the clarified margarita was for £15. When your pre-lunch cocktail arrives as a thimble, it’s rather off putting. The food was fine. Perfectly tasty, very salty. Nothing refined. Nothing you won’t get elsewhere for less money. There were two deserts on the set menu and, although we were the second table to arrive for lunch, the Almfi lemon cake had already “sold out”. I wanted to like this restaurant and I recognise that you don’t get the full Michelin star experience for lunch, however, I’ve been to many similar places over the years and it’s just not worth bothering with. Far more interesting restaurants in this city. Meh.

Had a great evening and delicious food. We chose the chefs menu and it was fantastic. Several dishes were ones that wouldn’t normally be my go to but was so surprised as loved every course. The tuna with amalfi lemons just a wonderful start, pasta dish with morel mushrooms my favourite I think (would never normally order pasta), the sole beautifully cooked and the pork so tender and flavoursome. Lastly the pain perdue was so light and crispy and definitely not the heavy dessert I was concerned about. A new favourite! We also had the wine pairing…great flavours and matches. Again not wines we would normally choose. The only slight improvement was a little bit more enthusiasm and explanation on these would have been great. I get you don’t want too much and come over pompous but it is that extra expense and we always like to learn a little about why those particular wines were chosen.

Followed by the Michelin guide, I am keen to experience food at the Ninth. The service from the staff is brilliant. I really appreciate it till the end of my dining time. The food caught my interest before I arrived at the restaurant. I was looking for the salted beef. It was amazing. The meat is so tender and full of flavour, really recommend it for those who wondering to try it. ☺️ Coming to the main part, the main dish. I ordered two plates, one was the role deer and the second one was a vegetable dish, the roast king oyster mushroom. Both of them were magnificent. Trying deer is a whole new experience. No fishy smell at all. The meat is soft with a rich flavour from the sauce. While the mushroom is ok. It had the same components as the deer, being a good option for vegetarians. Lastly, the Pain Perdu was amazing. The toast is so soft including an ice cream to fill in your mouth. A great combination to end the day. But the poached pear is too sweet. But the yoghurt ice cream can help to reduce that sweetness. Looking forward to coming back and exploring new dishes✨

It was a very lovely place with a definite personal attitude and a very intimate ambience. From this point of view it was a Michelin experience. However, the food (we tried several different dishes from starters to mains) was rather standard and even average. Yes, the bill came very low for a Michelin venue (at level of any simply good London restaurant), but why the star then? Nearby Lima for example has only a basic Michelin recommendation, but it gives you much more of gourmet experience for less.

The Ninth had been on our "to visit" list for a while and we had the set lunch option (£30 for two courses or £35 for three courses). The choice is quite limited, just two of each course, so it may be restrictive for some diners. The sardine spaghetti starter was lovely as was the artichoke salad and both mains ( duck leg and roast pumpkin) were nice. We both had a nice piece of gruyere for dessert. All the food tastes and looks good and is quite inventive. There is a short well chosen wine list with plenty of choice that won't break the bank. Service is efficient and friendly. With a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, teas and coffees the bill was just below £150 for two which we thought was pretty good value for money. We would certainly go back. As to whether a Michelin star is warranted person I think the jury is still out!

Good food but the dessert and bread were the highlight of the meal for me. The winter truffle pasta was not strong. The truffle shavings had very little flavor which was disappointing which made the pasta taste like boxed macaroni and cheese but less flavor. The starter snacks and salad on the fixed menu were amazing. The meal started strong but was just not stacking up on the mains. The sole was good but the miso broccoli was more impressive. Duck dish was good. Pain perdu was fantastic. Service was great but feels more casual and relaxed in this sense.

I go to Michelin star restaurants for the food, but also the calm atmosphere. Food was good (although not as refined as other Michelin starred restaurants I've been to) but for the price it was acceptable. The biggest problem was the NOISE! There was a big birthday party happening in the room next to us. Apparently this is a regular occurrence. They were so loud for our entire meal, singing and applauding. Not the calm atmosphere my friends and I were looking for, and certainly not deserving of a Michelin star. They should have kept these guests to themselves away from earshot of other guests - the flimsy curtain did nothing to dampen the racket! Kicking myself for not asking for something off the bill - was not offered despite my chat with the manager.

The first time I ate here I had a wonderful meal from the a la carte selection and I was excited to return. The second time I came, in January 2024, I ordered from the tasting menu. Sadly, this did not work out so well for me, partly because I have celiac disease so I can't consume gluten. I appreciate that I am the one that is broken, not the restaurant, and that the restaurant has no requirement to cater for my dysfunction. However, it proved too difficult to make satisfactory adaptions to the tasting menu, with dishes being made gluten-free "by omission". I am sure this is an excellent restaurant for those without dietary restrictions.

There's nothing wrong with The Ninth, it was a perfectly pleasant meal but there was nothing outstanding about it either and given the prices, I expected more and maybe high expectations were the problem. The decor and ambience is really nice and the staff make you feel very welcome. We chose a number of dishes to share though I'd warn people to order slightly more than we did as the dishes aren't large. Between the two of us we ordered the crispy artichoke with aoli, truffle pasta, cauliflower with walnuts, hispy cabbage, dover sole and the pain perdu. The artichoke, truffle pasta and pain perdu were all very good and we'd both strongly recommend them. The Cauliflower, Hispy Cabbage and Dover Sole were all a bit 'meh'. Nothing wrong with them, well cooked, but nothing remarkable either. I'm an average cook and I think I could probably replicate the dishes to a similar standard. Whilst it's a great setting and the food is good, it wasn't outstanding and where we were left disappointed was that the prices are very high relative to the quality. Generally when we spend £200+ on a meal for two at a restaurant, we walk away with a few dishes that we'll remember for some time but at The Ninth, I think we'll forget it relatively quickly.

I’d waited a long time to come to ‘The Ninth’ and try Jun tanaka’s food. We were given a warm welcome and the nice lady on the front desk put out shopping bags away before showing us our table… The waitress then took our order and soon after the barmen came with a unordered glass of wine, I started to think ( no know have I made wrong choice for dinner), however that was quickly rectified, as waitress misunderstood my wine selection, and entrees soon arrived, partridge for me & crispy artichoke for my wife, both were delicious excited for next dishes… I chose a pasta course next which was the prawn spaghetti , again very tasty esp the Red prawns, my Italian wife agreed and we shared it… Mains soon followed with cauliflower & pomegranate, walnuts for my wife and the Roe deer for me, mine was excellent as was the side of potatoes, wife was disappointed however ‘florettes of cauliflower’, as opposed to the cauliflower steak that she was expecting, as she ordered this as a main but clearly it was a side dish… perhaps misunderstood waitress issue ( who knows ) this didn’t put a damper on dessert the famous ‘pain perdu’ …. Restaurant overall was similar to an Italian Trattoria as a-pose to french fine dining restaurant that I thought but none the less enjoyable…. The bill £219 for 2

Whenever I am in London, I always meet up with a certain friend who leaves it to me to choose a restuarant. This time, I chose The Ninth (1 star Michelin rated). We went last night, and I was greeted with staff who had a friendly demeanour. I was allowed to choose a table and when I was joined by my friend, we delved into the menu to see what dishes there were. They do have a set menu for approx £95 excluding service and drinks and they can substitue meat dishes for vegetarian and fish. What I liked about the menu was that there were good fish and vegetarian options. The menu is also a sharing menu. We ordered the crab & seaweed tartlets and these were really good. We had ordered the sardines but our server had not noted it down so when we enquired about them towards the end of the meal, they were brought to us but I don't think I fully appreciated them because by that time we were stuffed. We ordered the cured mackrel which was good and such a pretty dish to look at. We ordered the prawn and spagetti which I my opinion was salty and rather than serving with 3 prawns in their shells, the dish should have been served with smaller and more prawns. I was not really a fan of this dish. I think I should have ordered the truffle pasta. We ordered the whole seabass with potatoes and broccoli as a side. All 3 items were good. For dessert we ordered the pain du perdu (custardy French toast) served with ice cream. We shared this dessert but secretly I thought I could have ate one serving by myself. The dessert was really good together with the crab tartlets. Our bill came to £172 with service (no alcohol). The restaurant does also a lunch set menu.

We had chef's choice menu, which comprised nine parts, when including bread and sides, or in fact six portions and bread. The food was ok, but more like home made or pub food, certainly not star level. Only the pork was very good. Some were quite large, the question was more about quantity than quality, the dessert was way too large. The service was good, we were given a new table, when a noisy group came in.

Fantastic experience, we had the chefs choice menu with wine flight and every course was beautifully balanced, full of flavour and exceptionally cooked. The wines paired perfectly, and it was nice to have wines from some less ‘fashioning’ regions. All courses were delicious, however, our highlights were the Crab & Seaweed tartlets, the Pork, and the Pain Perdu. The room (we sat on the ground floor) has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, yet you still know you are dining in a top restaurant. Finally, the team…sensational! From the moment we arrived the entire team that served us were exceptional. They were friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, discreet (yet attentive) and so understatedly professional. This is a highly recommended restaurant - bar, the food and dessert were amazing , stuff were very kind. This thing is not for the restaurant but A group of people in the restaurant were very loud and it was so annoying.. Overall it was a good place to spend a nice evening..

Top quality food and service. My only issue was a spelling mistake on the menu about where the tea was from. It read tea from 'Satenwa, Malawi' when it's from 'Satemwa, Malawi'. I know it sounds ridiculous but the only reason I care is because I did some work and lived at Satemwa estate for a bit where the tea is grown. Iberico pork and the pain perdu was truly top tier.

I have been here for my 18th anniversary with my husband. Food was delicious, very nice atmosphere, a bit too expencive the main in my point of view, expecially compared with the dessert which were huge and cheap. I am a pastry chef and i have really loved their pain perdu with tonka icecream

A very good find! Last minute reservation and came out one of the best meals we had in the last year, every single dish was amazing and service was wonderfully friendly and not over the top. We chose a tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious. Have already recommended a few friends after our visit, we will definitely go back sometime soon!

Had a very enjoyable evening at The Ninth last month. It is a lovely restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Everything we ate was incredible. Particular favourites were the Truffle Spaghetti, the Turbot and the Pain Perdu. The staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful, it was clear they had a passion for the restaurant and the menu. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.

Vegans - Don't bother eating here. The service was great, and our omni friends loved most of their dishes. The vegan food was not great. Several of the vegan dishes were the normal menu minus the sauce or dressings that probably would have made them great. But without replacements they were boring, and not very balanced or tasty. Also none of the dishes were designed to have enough protein for a balanced meal, so vegans, you are better of going elsewhere.

Lovely restaurant, delicious food and excellent service. The portions are great for sharing whilst still decent sized enough for one person.

Had a lovely meal here - an intimate cosy restaurant which was perfect on a December evening. All dishes were delicious in their own way and presented well - i could've easily gone for any of the dishes on the menu! Service was good and friendly too. Definitely recommend.

This is my third visit since 2018. It is always great, this occasion was superb. Sourdough, marinated sardines, beetroot and clemantine salad, langostine ravioli, and venison were fantastic. The pork pluma was next level. The ninth signature cocktail prepared alchohol free was excellent. Will definately visit again. Very special restaurant.

Came for the lunch set menu, the starter of cod was really well done, as well as the pumpkin for the main. However, we felt that the desserts were a little lacking, and although the service was pleasant - we had to ask twice for our tap water

What a find! The cutest little French bistro with a small menu featuring classic brunch dishes done well. It's a tad pricey, but the fact they had Canele's (specialty Bordeaux pastry) completely won

We visited the location at 55 Neal street for a late Sun day night dinner. This was our first time in London, and at the end of a very busy weekend, the restaurant was out of stock of a few items. Tir
