The best restaurants in Tendring East of England

So my mum wanted to stay near me at the hotel. Looked okay on arrival, the bedding smelled like fried food , didn't complain as EVERYTHING ,did include towels so didn't want to sniff all the Extra linen on site . The hallway light was on until 5am making it difficult to sleep . The windowsill was sticky , and the pillows also stank . We sprayed them with perfume then my mum had to leave a day early as not comfortable.

Good service didn't have to wait long. And good food very nice

Great location and nice decor, however to charge £6 for two teas in paper cups is unacceptable even if they are named designer tea bags and “responsibly sourced fully recyclable” paper cups, surely washing up real cups is kinder to the planet ? As said by others, this cafe has been recently taken over by another well known chain who have several other upmarket venues in the area. Perhaps they are trying to gain a monopoly hold in the harbour area ? My advice would be to try the burger van which is often parked up nearby for better value.

Superb King Prawn jalfrezi, with huge prawns, lamb korma, rice, chapati and sag aloo - all on a Tuesday lunch time (after trying Nirala, which was closed). Waiter was incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely chap!

We were here for a wake and stayed the night in the bed and breakfast. Despite the sad occasion this was one of the best overnight stays we have ever had! The food at the wake was fresh, appetising and served just at the right time. They were more than happy to run photos on the tv and even invited us to bring along a USB of music to play in the background. We stayed and enjoyed a very tasty haddock, chips and peas which was so huge neither of us could finish. This has to be the best fish and chips we have ever tasted! Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked on demand and we could help ourselves to a variety of cereals, coffee, tea, orange juice and toast. There was plenty of cooked options to choose from not just a full English. Throughout our time here every single member of the team was polite, friendly and helpful. We will 100% be returning as places like this which serve amazing food and drinks in a spotlessly clean environment with a smile are rare. Our room was incredibly clean and comfy and we both had a great night's sleep. Tv, tea and coffee facilities, fluffy towels, hot powerful shower plus a great radio/music set up. We cannot wait to return to enjoy one of the tribute nights we saw advertised. Well done everyone at the Rose and Crown!!!!

Superb food. Really accommodating, dog was allowed in the bar area. Great food? Hell, yeah. Wonderful roast lamb, lots of veg, generous portions. 2 starters, 2 mains ( gorgeous lamb, and lots of it), bottle of wine...75 quid! That is decent! And the fact the kitchen brought a wee bowl of treats for the dog? Nice touch. Definitely recommended. I felt absolutely stuffed after lunch and needed a lay down! Thank you all.. def will be returning

Beautiful food, very reasonably priced, incredible service. I had a Caesar salad and sparkling elderflower, really filling for a lunchtime, the ingredients were all super fresh and high quality, served quickly and by friendly waitresses. We walked around the 'garden' centre centre afterwards, it was our first visit, and I still can't believe how big it is and how much choice there is of home and gifting as well as all the plants. well worth a visit.

Amazing fish & chips, staff are very friendly. Wish they would take card payments though, it’s 2025!

£7 for a small bottle of rose wine had tap water instead barmaid not bothered avoid this place we didnt even bother to look at the food menu take out another mortgage, came here 2 years ago wouldnt botber again

Needed somewhere to eat on Sunday night, and everything we tried was "Kitchen Closed" except for this place. It's down a narrow side street, but easy to find as it's very well lit. It was absolutely empty and stayed that way except for us. Staff were friendly, and the food was amazing. we were not disappointed with our food at all. We would eat here again.

Great food, excellent price, really good customer service, very friendly staff. Well worth visiting for a decently priced tasty pleasant meal.

Big menu, lots to choose. But got set seafood meal, share for 2 at the end. Best decision! Food was delicious and fresh. The portions were more than enough.
