The best fish and chips that I've tasted... thoroughly recommended

If you’re in Jaywick or surrounding area then this is the best chip shop around. Ordered a fish and chips and was served what can only be described as a whale of a fish. Very flavoursome and beautiful golden batter. Good portion of chips. Was a struggle to finish. If the lunchtime special provides the same size fish then that would be exceptional value for money. A bit of a wait as everything is cooked fresh but definitely worth waiting for. (Photos of menu provided. Prices correct as of July 2024)

What a lovely find!! Driving around looking for a chippy came across the Fri inn ... Was greeted by both members of staff with a warm welcome and smile, I had small cod and small chips, hubby had battered burger and large chips, wow how wonderful to have a decent crispy batter on both fish and burger, the chips were perfect, The pineapple fritters were divine... Certainly worth the ride down from Colchester... Perfect... Thankyou also for complimentary bottle of lemonade.... 👍 Awesome

had mixed kebab so chicken was a breast very dry and tough kebab meat dry chips looked as if they had been there for hours

Only had chips but they were very good!!

Absolutely disgusting, had to take the food back for a refund. Was not edible and looked like it had been cooked at least four times !! There was no potato left in the chips just greesy hard mess. Do not eat from here, they should be inspected it’s filthy dirty in there too. How on earth you have the cheek to serve that up is beyond me.

How can you go wrong to pay £6 for acod and chips. (Lunchtime special) between 11am and 2pm. It's massive and well worth the money and also taste fresh. 👌

I got a cheeseburger, chips and chicken burger The burger was okay but the bun was rock solid and tasted like on of them microwave burgers Chicken burger- the bread tasted stall but the fillet was okay Chips are okay but a few of them taste raw

Literally just been there and got home and opened a portion of raw chips 👌

Been here 5 times. 1st 4 were very good. Last visit fish was good but chips were terrible. Tasted wrong and kind of hard. Hopefully that was a one off.

Very pleasant owners, but cannot understand the the very good reviews of the food. Bought two portions of chips, they were the the worst I can ever remember buying any ware. Will not be buying from them again.

Visited here as we were down for the day and it's still as good and tasty as I remembered. It's by far the best chippy in the area.

Absolutely appalling!! The girl behind the counter had Absolutely no customer service skills. Was rude and abrupt! I know the hot weather may have been a factor but if you can't work in this heat then don't work in a fish shop!! They missed out on a large order because of the rude service from the girl on the counter.

friendly staff! fish cooked to order really tasty lovely batter! Clean premises have chairs to sit on whilst waiting inside and out car parking space at the front, do most things pies, battered sausages, scampi, saveloys, well worth a visit!

Great freshly cooked fish and chips, well worth it, really couldn't eat it all due to the amount, 3 small cod and 2 large chips for 3 of us

Long wait and undercooked chips

New chef Ate my battered sausage and chips last night, spent the whole night and morning on the toilet. Avoid!!!

We have used this chip shop for 10 years it used to be brilliant, portion size was excellent. Recently the fish size has gone down, and also the chip portion has gone down to half of what it used to be. The price however has gone up over the time, which you wouldn't mind if the portion size had stayed the same.

The food here is superb, the batter on the fish is light and the portions are generous. The chips are proper sized chips, not skinny french fries. Excellent food and service.

Well cooked food and friendly staff! We don’t usually use this chip shop due to living 2 far away but as we had to see friends near by we popped in for dinner! Very impressed and will use again

I live local to this chip shop and use it occasionally and never really had a problem til tonight. I went in there for a bag of chips to takeaway and noticed that the girl serving me had most of her hair up but had a long section on long hair hanging over her face that was dangling over my open bag of chips. When I said I don't want them as her hair was almost touching and dangling in my food she got incredibly rude and defensive. All I got was sarcasm and spoke over. She tried to make me look like the bad guy to cover her obvious embarrassment and whats worse is that the Manager did not say a word. Due to her attitude towards basic hygiene I feel that I have no choice than report them to The "FSA" on Monday morning to review their hygiene standard. You have been warned !!.

Not impressed on last visit. Hopefully it will improve as used to be a nice fish and chip shop.

This chip shop has gone down hill ,use to be a regular not any more prices went up portions went down give it a miss. Better value around locally won t bother ,and communication with staff can be hard

Stopped here on the way to caravan park for a quick bite and what a delight, chips were the best iv had for ages, husband had a saveloy and I had a battered sausage, batter was crispy and crunchy, if in the area again will definitely stop here again 😋

Basically I go there don’t get me wrong it is very nice but I asked for a jumbo sausage and they try to say to me that a small sausage is a jumbo one so I tell them I work in a beach bar and I know what they look like and the woman tired to argue with me about a sausage 😂 I know my meat

This is a really good chippy and I have never had a bad meal here. Their fish is fresh and tasty and as are the chips. A meal here takes me right back to my childhood as my family always finished our day in Jaywick with fish and chips.

Simply the best chippy in Clacton

I went into this chip shop ordered two cod & chips and two rock & chips. It came to £27 something and I was then told they don’t take card so I had to find somewhere with a cash machine and come back. When I did, they over charged me by saying it was £28.60 but didn’t question it as they should know what they are doing and maybe I heard wrong. But when I got home I worked out that I’d been charge extra for large chipsx2 but all the portions were the same. Just a big hassle over some fish and chips. I’ve now heard they are the most expensive chip shop in clacton.. I’ll try somewhere else next time.

First impressions is the fry inn sign above chip shop needs taking down and jet washing, so hopefully the kitchens cleaner, needs bringing up to date in my opinion

Can be a bit of a gamble but usually the fish is very nice, big quantities and great taste. I come here very often for dinner. Would recommend for anyone living locally.

Muy amable y eficiente y chips, la comida era muy buena, pero no tienen en el reírse varias faltas de ortografía en el menú incluye groundgnut aceite y entre otros burguer. Quizás un nuevo menú, sería una buena idea! No dejes que la falta de conocimientos de ortografía aunque como honestamente la comida era bastante buena!

This is my local chippy and they always serve great food. How lucky am I to have fab food just round the corner. The girls behind the counter are always smiling, a rarity these days.

En Jaywick en vacaciones y he estado en 3 días seguidos y no he tenido una mala comida. El pescado es tan fresco como frescas puede ser, las patatas fritas son excelentes. El personal es muy amable. Si volvemos a Jaywick otra vez sin duda nos pop de nuevo.
