Amazing pub with great deals, I was only visiting there as was on a short break in clacton. The music playing also added to the atmosphere 👌. The staff are amazing 👏

Just popped in for a Meal, all tables reserved ok, but all other seating are high tables which as we are older i do not find any good. We had to order at bar and the menu a bit basic ok and help yourself ok. Wife Steak fine but mine no good, at the price £10.50 can we grumble ?... Over all a pub serving Food. Staff where pleasant. BUT NO Coffee.

Excellent service. Hot food. Fast coming out with food, really lovely staff. Would definitely recommend coming for dinner!!!

A great local bar to us. Good place to catch up with people. Great for drinkers and foodies alike. Special mention to the great staff, Paige, Katie, Charlie, Ryan and Harvey always are welcoming and friendly. Always cope well even in challenging times, like the school holidays. Great job.

Last minute decision to pop in the Donkey for a bit of dinner and I'm glad we did. The pub was fairly quiet and we chose our own table, after browsing the menu (lots of options) thought I'd try the steak. I had an 11oz and my partner had the 8oz and both were cooked as we ordered. My partner has medium rare whilst I prefer rare, the chefs got it absolutely spot on and we both thoroughly enjoyed so much so that I decided to leave a quick review. The chips were delicious and the peas, well they were peas but the steak far exceeded my expectations and I would definitely order this again. The bar staff were very friendly and our food server was really nice so all in all we had a lovely experience. Worth popping in if you're passing

Myself & my partner regularly come for dinner , lovely. Friendly staff, varied menu , great value for money. We both had the steak tonight compliments to chef on knowing how to cook steak to the liking of the customer 🙂. ( You owe me a smile now chefs lol) Caters for smokers with shelter , play area for the children and garden for summer weather, if your looking for meal,coffee or pint you cant go wrong to a cheeky trip here.

Lunchtime visit with our Staffie friendly staff made us feel welcome .very popular venue lot of guests service was surprisingly quick after ordering.recommend anyone to for food and a drink .

Huge shoutout to Claire and the management dream team of Ryan and Paige – you guys run a top-tier operation. Chef David nailed every dish, cooked to perfection exactly as we ordered. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. These guys should be running a chef& brewer or something bigger. Refused to serve me and my family because we have black children- staff are rude

We came for a lovely family Sunday dinner, lots of room, so we all sat down, doesn’t say reserved on tables or any signs, only for a larger blonde lady to tell us all tables was reserved and we need to move, she was very rude, when we said there’s no reserve on table she rudely said you have to move now, we will not b returning and would definitely not recommend this please, and judge by the other reviews on here it seems to be the norm for this place

Food took over an hour to come out , when it did the bacon burger has the most smallest bit of streaky bacon in to be told that’s how it should be , the burgers didn’t taste right (3 of us had burgers said the same , the jacket potatoes was powdery and the bowl had been in the microwave as it was burning hot my daughter arm caught it , after having very hungry children my daughter only ate my chips The steak come out rare still when asked for medium then when they brought it back out it was well well done Since the old manager that had been there for years has gone it has gone downhill

Great food (Bangin Katsu chicken and cheesecake) very friendly staff. Barely have to wait for food to come to the table unless the place is busy and the staff inform you of the wait times.

Just returned from a 2 week holiday and ate at the Roaring Donkey most nights the pub restaurant is a friendly pub for all the family and very popular with the locals and holiday makers there is a pub garden with a large play area for the kids all food is freshly cooked and if you a a fan of burgars they seem to be all hand made i recomend the Quadzilla burgar it is a monster of a burgar already booked our hoilday for next year and looking forward to returning to the Roaring Donkey i would just like to finish off by saying thank you to all the wonderful staff who work so hard there.

Lovely place to stay lovely staff , Very welcoming people, on special occasions there is food for customers.and it's free, it is a pub not a restaurant, there are plenty of choices not far from the Roaring Donkey .

Advertising £6 lunch deals but can't find the correct button on the till. Charging you normal price.

I like it here but its very understaffed and many tables left full of empty plates and glasses, need to have a person designated to just be clearing up once people have finished, eaten a few times, had salmon and it was lovely

Large Hungry Horse Greene King pub. Good quality budget meals. Good selection of beers and lagers. Friendly, efficient staff.

We booked a table for 9 , the server was excellent as was the food , can't find any faults. The meals fast and lovely and hot Charlie the server was fantastic at his job and very welcoming. It's nice to see someone who enjoys their job. Thanks Charlie for giving us a pleasant meal and enjoyable time

Come here at least once a week and have a right giggle with all the staff, especially Friday with poker and sometimes karaoke

Long wait for food, very busy with large parties of people. We were informed of wait. Just about squeezed in dessert as they close food service at 9pm. Friendly service and general advice avoid busy times.

We went to the Roaring Donkey in Holland on sea for the first time last night and have to say it was so much more than expected. What a lovely clean, atmospheric place to eat and drink and on our doorstep too. The food was tasty and I cannot fault the service. We will definitely be back.

Had a very pleasant experience at the restaurant today. We was being dealt with by Charlie who is a trainee duty manager and he was such a pleasure to be dealt by. He so friendly to customer and is so happy. Made our experience so much more pleasant. Why sitting at our table to over heard serval conversations where he was so polite and friendly. He is a credit to the restaurant and will go far within this industry.

We booked a table for a bank holiday Sunday for 7 adults and 2 children although we arrived early our table was ready. It was very busy and we were informed there was an hours wait for food. We placed our order and it was actually much quicker. The food was very good hot and well presented apart from the Texas sandwich which was missing the cheese and sauce no explation we noticed another diner had the same dish without cheese and sauce. The service was good from the person who greeted us she told us about the waiting time and what was not available on the menu but special mention for the barman don't know who he is as no name badges but he always seems to be working if we pop in for a drink or to eat. He is always cheerful even when it's busy he's aware of which customer is next to be served and is very efficient, next time I will ask his name as he deserves recognition for his service.

Would recommend to anyone. The food is lovely and at great prices,. Cannot fault the staff always friendly. Has a great play area for kids too.

The staff are over worked Glasses all over the bar one person serving no other staff to be seen. Broken glass all over the bar floor. Please increase your wage bill for this pub the service is shocking at this pub and it’s not the staffs fault but management

Been before food qas great went today all four of us very disappointed food dry and some over cooked and sausages with mixed frill under cooked. Very disappointed

8 people, 2 dishes ok but other dishes were very poor, all cold not enjoyable at all, desserts waste of money on quality and value. Very disappointed as birthday lunch for family. When points were raised to staff was told "that's the way it is". Well it should be better.

Surprised how down this place has gone Used to get large portions but not now Had roast only 3 potatoes!! Turkey had a funny taste Best thing about the dinner was the batter pudding!! Paid just under £100 so not worth it Used to go here a lot bunt no more What has happened to this place ????

54 year's I've been using this place... mainly in summer as we have had a caravan here for as long as I can remember... Wow... this year the food is amazing and the best I've ever had and the rest of my lot say the same.. booked a table for 7 of us from me 67 year's old and our grandchildren 2,4 and 5 year's old... All of us loved it.. all of it... Terry.. looked after us and the lady Clare i think ... Thank you.. and thank the chefs and table staff.. food was really good.. I'm so glad we can go back as we love the food and the kids love the park bit... we Definitely Will see you again soon.. micky

The food was not good at all. The toilet's were disgusting. We have been there a few times this was the worst time, will not be going back and wouldn't recommend it

Fourth/fifth time here in about 2 months....this is due purely to the fact that the staff are ALWAYS eager to please and yourre never made to feel a nuisance if you run late or want to substitite the odd food item....thanks to everybody and a special mention to Claire, Danielle and Charlie!

We were on holiday in Holland on Sea with out dog. We didn't know if The Roaring Donkey was a dog friendly pub and just went in to find out. Very pleased to say it was. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night and were told there was a 45 minute wait. We were not in a hurry and enjoyed a bottle of wine. The food was very good, hot and tasty and reasonably priced. My partner had the steak sizzler and I opted for a classic cheeseburger. Delicious. The only thing we didn't like was the fact there were televisions showing the Olympics everywhere but with sound turned down. We decided to go back the next night and service was quicker. We had another bottle of wine for only £7.99, half price on Wednesday. Cocktails were also good. We would thoroughly recommend this pub

Had great meal with my wife recently! Food superb. Paige always gives great friendly service. Keeps things organised in a timely manner. Such an asset to Roaring Donkey!

OK. Food was alright. Beef roast- beef was OK, roast potatoes abysmal. Service OK.

First time here with the family, great atmosphere, great food, great prices plus a large play area and outside seating. Need to resolve the issues with the IOS app for ordering but highly recommend.

The staff are friendly and approachable. I’m a Type 1 diabetic and during a severe low the staff knew immediately what to do!

Booked for a family of 10.they traveled from Dagenham. The food was very poor,couldn't cut steak,dirty glasses. A whole table in the garden area was full up with glasses from when we arrived until leaving.this was for a 40th ruby wedding anniversary and I was embarrassed, steak so tough couldn't cut it,burnt eggs.embarrasing when family travelled 1 hour and half each way.wont be booking again.

We are regular visitors to The Roaring Donkey and always have a very enjoyable experience. The food is lovely, it’s excellent value for money and the portion sizes are good. There is a good atmosphere with a range of different ages visiting the pub. What makes The Roaring Donkey particularly great are the staff. They are friendly, welcoming, helpful and accommodating. On our recent visit, Charlie, Harvey and Paige welcomed us and were so pleasant and polite whilst doing their jobs professionally and very efficiently. We can’t praise them highly enough. Well done!

Staff were lovely, squeezed us in on a very busy day. A lot of food wasn't available which was a bit annoying but understandable on a busy day.

My family was treated welcomely but I got abused by a member of staff because I wore a Man U top and he was a Liverpool supporter but was all in good spirts and a fun bit of banta food was lovely everything’s was perfect

Excellent food hot and tasty and a very friendly atmosphere. Still just as hood as ever.

This place was great when I went there and the staff were supportive and offered help when I asked for a cup of water for my brother after he had a seizure there.

Came for lunch. Ate nice food in good sized portions. Went away happy.

My friend put a negative spin on the Donkey, however he had to admit that he was wrong, good food was served, far better than expected for a Hungry Horse chain. Pub was very good, only let down is the usual grubby toilets.

5 stars Andy was brilliant and great service and food

Went there on England euros for the afternoon, toilet seat for disabled was hanging off with toilet paper all over the floor, the toilets stank, had to wait forever for a beer, glasses were not collected from tables inside or out, staff were moaning about the amount of hours they had worked without adequate breaks sad state of affairs. The governor collecting the glasses left it for someone else to collect below his pay grade.

A total dissatisfaction with the service I received at your restaurant on 17th June 2024. I had made a reservation for a table for 11 people for a birthday. My party and I were told we had to wait for an hour and a half for food, due to the walk in customers. This experience was highly disappointing and disrupted our plans for the evening. A key reason for making a reservation is to avoid such delays, and it is unacceptable that our reservation was not honored in a timely manner. The lack of organization and priority given to walk-in customers over those with reservations reflects poorly on the management and operational practices of your establishment.

We've visited twice, both times most of the food we tried to order wasn't available. What we did eventually get was mediocre at best. It was very busy on a Sunday afternoon on our first visit with the football showing on tv and very noisy and busy. The second visit on a weekday lunchtime was pretty quiet. Service was fine, staff were pleasant, drinks ok too. Just the food let it down for us.

Chicken comes from global farms in CHINA.... Greene King couldn't care less. Please look at what you eat and where it comes from the chicken new yorker was all fatty type of ...?chicken? ... disgusting and when i asked where its from thats what i was told!! Service staff seemed over worked but still remained calm and polite. Edited to say the response below is unacceptable when your menu states most of your meat comes from rspca approved farms ... Most locals will not eat here.

Had a great night here and a wonderful meal. The service was exceptional. One server named Andy was very helpful and friendly. Definitely made our night to be served with a smile and polite demeanour. Will definitely eat here again.

Me and my friend popped in on our way through for a drink and our server Andy was exceptional helped us with what drinks we should try and what his recommendations were. One of the nicest employees I've had the fortune of meeting.

Food was nice but a bit more care with presentation could have been taken and a few more chips would have been nice.

Nice food great value for money

Considering it's a GK pub, the IPA was awful. When I took it back (after one very vinegary mouthful), the guy behind the bar just said: "yeah, someone else mentioned it was bad earlier".....!?!?!?? When I went back inside to get another round, my duff pint was still sat on the bar! Not impressed.

This was the second time we have eaten here fist time was really lovely This time not so Food reheated and very tough we have been very ill up all night going to the toilet me and my wife never going to eat there again when walking into the establishment dirty plates with half eaten food on the tables not good should have turned around straight away but thought we would stay because of the first time it was nice I don’t know what has happened there but very bad atmosphere too Mr D Parkinson
