Hungry Horse - Roaring Donkey in Tendring

Booked a table for a party of 8 as my parents were visiting. We were seated immediately. Ordered our meals through the Greene King app. Service was very fast and all staff members were friendly and polite. Everyone enjoyed and finished their meal. Have visited before and will visit again. Excellent service and friendly staff, can't ask for more!

Tracie and the team couldn’t do enough to make our visit to the Roaring Donkey memorable. We are on holiday and couldn’t have asked for more. Found the best staff to be friendly, the food was delicious and would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Fabulous from start to finish, I’m guessing it’s under new management as you can tell more recently that the place has a lovely family friendly feel to it that just runs smoothly. Greeted with smiles all round, fabulous service! Food was quick and absolutely lovely. Offered to move our table round so we were closer to the garden as the children were talking about playing out there, very attentive staff.

Came here for a meal with friends , ordered on the app and our food and drinks came out quite quickly couple of things were missing off one of the plates we told our waitress Tracey who was very helpful and super nice and she fixed the problem straight away I have been here before when some of the waitresses have been quite rude but Tracey was very friendly and welcoming x

Really amazing place, the bartender Alfie was amazing always kept us topped up on drinks and made some amazing recommendations on desserts for us!

Staff were really good, the food was average and took a while to arrive but it was a bank holiday weekend to be fair and really busy. Reasonable prices especially the Sunday lunch with a drink for £11 . Can't expect top notch for that price.

Roaring Donkey is a great family pub, plenty of dining space and lots more outside, small play area for kids, you know what you get there, the food is nice and easy meals, great prices and good offers, good range of drinks, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, helpful when needed, we use as our local, highly recommend

Lovely food, welcoming atmosphere and members of staff, football was on, hot food and tasty 😋😋😋😋 waiter named Joseph was polite and came over to ask if we needed anything and always had a smile on his face.

Used to be a cheap meal out and good value, but it’s difficult to overlook the quality of the food when you are paying the prices demanded. Avoid at popular times as it can become raucous if there is a match on

Nice pub, very friendly helpful staff. They had karaoke on in the bar area so there was a really nice atmosphere around the pub. Let down by the food. The app said it would be around 20mins wait, ended up being 45mins which I wouldn't have minded initially. Two burgers barely had any sauce on them, just looked like a sad plate of food. Chicken skewers the chicken just tasted processed. Giant ice cream dessert didn't look anything like the photos and was basically a bowl of chocolate ice cream. The toilets are disgusting, one tap but two sinks, absolutely stunk, very tired and worn out. Great staff and nice enough venue let down by toilets and standard of food

This place has been hit and miss for a few years. Can take ages to get served ,and served up possibly the worst " chicken" I've seen last year.Overall it's ok and deserves three stars as the food has improved since my last visit.

Service cancelled be a bit slow but that's due to how busy they get but always lovely food and polite staff.

Absolutely adore this pub! Very local to me and I’ve been coming here for years! Came in for a family meal today for Easter Sunday and we all had an amazing two course meal, everyone really enjoyed the food and service. We were served by a new girl on the bar and she pointed us to all the deals and helped us order our desserts, I think her name was Ell. Super friendly staff as always, and great food and drinks at brilliant prices. Kids can’t wait to come back in the summer to play in the park!

I had a lovely visit to The Roaring Donkey. We had the two for one burger meal and a soft drink each. Everyone was very friendly and the service was excellent even though it was really busy. We will be back.

Tried to book a table for 15 here for birthday celebrations on thursday. Told on the phone on Wednesday that they would only take bookings for 12. But, l could make an enquiry online. I asked if l could book 2 tables, 1 for 8 and the other for the remainder. Told yes but they couldnt guarantee we would be together... so what was the point in booking?? l decided to make the enquiry online and 60 hours later lm still waiting for a reply. Such awful customer service. You lost £600 of sales as we went somewhere that was more than happy to accommodate us... your loss!!

Back again to this holiday pub with my daughters, we had the sizzler combo and fish really enjoy the food and the staff are lovely see you next time

Not welcoming at all. Infact it felt as if we should leave as soon as we entered. If your not a local they don't want your custom and it was made pretty clear too, def wouldn't return. Village pub, village people, you can keep that one !

We absolutely love this place – we've been coming here for five years in a row from London. The food and drinks are always great. The staff are amazing and friendly, and the manager is incredibly welcoming and caring. The outdoor playground and garden pub are our favourite spots – the kids are happy and entertained, and the parents get to relax and enjoy themselves! Thank you all for making us feel like part of your family. We’ll definitely be back again – hopefully this coming summer!

Lovely big pub near me, only visited twice but has improved a lot. You can get service via app and there's plenty on the menu. It's a very large place, I personally think if there was the money, this place would look great refurbishing with brighter seating areas.

Went today for a Beef Sunday Roast & drink deal. Service was top notch, very friendly & on point. Food came within the time told & was lush.

On holiday in the area so called in for meal. Lovely food, everywhere clean and tidy and great play area for grandson to play on.

Staff are very friendly and welcoming and always happy to answer any questions you have . Foods is always hot and out on time , Good atmosphere and the karaoke night is a must do .

How ridiculous on a Sunday lunchtime with the football on and obviously food only two bar staff working they worked like Trojans but could not cope with the amount of customers waited 20 mins to get a drink as did most people that were just watching the football the person running the pub was more interested collecting glasses as apposed to helping behind the bar such a shame great pub great staff but obviously profit comes before customers. Another pub close by now has Sky will be using this pub in future not because I want to but I think The Roaring Donkey is more about making money as opposed to customer service

Great place for reasonably priced food. Parking was easy and we didn't need to book. It's a family pub so plenty of kids about but that didn't bother us.

Lovely meal clean and the staff is amazing and kind Alfie behind the bar served us really lovely drinks quickly will definitely recommend

We went for some drinks yesterday and it was super busy but we was taken very good care of by the barman Alfie, he was super quick at getting our order ready and super polite, a real asset to this company!

Good pub grub plus a few specials. Lamb Kofta on flatbreads delicious. Halloumi fries. Great. Good old fashioned pub plenty of parking. Great prices.

Charming bar staff, looked after us all evening.

Excellent value for money. We had two steaks and an ultimate combo (shared by my kids). Everything perfect except the garlic bread on the combo! It was hard and inedible. Not a big deal, but Lee changed it for us and got us a freshly cooked batch, plus got the kids some ice creams for the trouble! Thanks Lee! Will definitely be back!

Food was cold 😩 and missing alot of food on our plates. Not normally one to complain as I have eaten here alot but today was a total let down. 🙃 I understand everyone has their off days but it's no excuse to have cold food . Also beans and mushrooms were mixed together which i personally don't agree with . The beans had no taste of sauce to them ( very dry) and the mushrooms were shrivelled to nothing 😢 . Unfortunately we had a bad experience today and hope that it improves as I normally do like it here. Waiter was very kind though so thank you for that 😊

Horrible waiting i’ve ever been, waiting for 2 steak for an hour on Tuesday night also no apology from the waitress, restaurant wasn’t busy at all.

Fancied a change to the normal places we go on a Sunday evening, ordered 2 steak meals with all the trimmings. Food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious… The manager Clare was an absolute laugh and made our dining experience worthwhile. The bar staff were friendly especially Ryan with his quick wit and banter, can definitely recommend this place a Family friendly pub. 10 out of 10 guys will definitely be going back.

Came in here a few years ago and had an unsatisfactory meal so swore I would never return. But went in last evening as my hubby wanted to watch the footie. He wasn't very hungry so just pinched some of my Tandori Chicken Sizzler, which was lovely So I will return !!

Went here recently with our grandsons as a treat. Have been before and wanted to see what changes had been made. Food selection is very good. Tastes very good and service is excellent. Now the bad bit... Toilets are awful, Not clean with bad smells. Not pleasant after a good meal. We hope that major investment in this area is forthcoming and would ensure an increase in visits.
