Have always loved the Roaring Donkey, great, friendly atmosphere and family friendly. Food is well prepared and tasty!

I went for the “Mix It Up”—a platter of perfectly grilled skewers that were absolutely sensational. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, every bite was a treat. Pairing it with a fresh, crisp draught beer only elevated the experience. But what truly sets this place apart is the service. The staff are welcoming, attentive, and know their stuff when it comes to drinks and pairings. Whether you’re here for a casual pint or a proper meal, the atmosphere is always spot-on. I always bring my children here for food, and meet friends as a treat. The staff are amazing and friendly, they always work quickly to get everyone served! Manager always knows everyone and is accommodating and cannot do enough for you. The food is great value, always hot and fresh. It’s a great local, loads of seating and space, a great hub for our community! Good live entertainment in the evenings too … screens always have sports on, and there is an adults 18 over section of you want a more adult area.

Alfie and Ryan provide a great service behind the bar! They are always very welcoming (i dont have any friends) and create a warm atmosphere.

Great pub all the sports channels and bogof on a friday!!! My only gripe is always under staffed😢. We are quite regular at least twice a week, got used to the bar now, get a drink when there’s no one else waiting 🤪

Had a lovely family meal at the donkey today. Paige was great, she helped carry my drinks over as there was too many to carry on my own. She brought the food out promptly, kept bringing extra sauces etc, kept asking if everything was ok…. like nothing was too much trouble. She made the meal a very pleasing family time. Thanks to everyone at the donkey, especially from Paige for the good caring service with a smile. Hope to be back soon x

12 of us had a lovely family Christmas meal here today. Food was nice, fresh and hot and the staff were really friendly and looked after us very well.

This place has genuinely gone from bad to absolutely fantastic. Things really went downhill and I stopped eating here. I believe they're under new management, because the new menu is amazing, the food is delicious every single time. Not to mention that the staff are so much more friendly, professional and accommodating. There really has been new life breathed into this place. I will say that it could do with a bit of a revamp. The carpets etc are overdue a change. But don't let that deter the fact that this is a lovely place to eat, and the staff genuinely seem to care about my needs and wants. I can't recommend the food enough! They really have turned things around! Well done!

Understaffed, mistakes made with food, apology was given and free desert offered, we refused, the meal was ruined by then, staff pleasant enough just clearly under pressure

Went a few months ago.....food took ages to arrive (over an hour) and the burger was too charred, and hated the runny cheese sauce it came with and the taste made me run into the toilets. The cutlery had also all run out meaning people were left wandering about to try and find some. Unfortunately would not return. The waiting staff were all great though.

Really good service from both the bar/food. Service was first class food was plentiful and hot good quality. Best we’ve had in Clacton for a while. Recommend you give it a try sure you’ll be glad you did. Everyone welcome great age range & atmosphere from baby’s to grandparents. The Xmas dinner was fantastic. Myself and my boyfriend enjoyed a lovely lunch date on Friday. It was BOGOF on burgers so that’s what we decided to get. The burgers were lovely and juicy and packed full of flavour. We definitely recommend and we will be coming back.

Unfortunately it was quite a disappointing meal. The Gravy burger was a let down there was a small teaspoon of gravy and they pof of gravy was missing it was cold and unflavoursome. The mac and cheese side dish was nice but the other chicken dish was dry. Service took a long time but staff were friendly. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place.

Amazing pub with great deals, I was only visiting there as was on a short break in clacton. The music playing also added to the atmosphere 👌. The staff are amazing 👏

Just popped in for a Meal, all tables reserved ok, but all other seating are high tables which as we are older i do not find any good. We had to order at bar and the menu a bit basic ok and help yourself ok. Wife Steak fine but mine no good, at the price £10.50 can we grumble ?... Over all a pub serving Food. Staff where pleasant. BUT NO Coffee.

Last minute decision to pop in the Donkey for a bit of dinner and I'm glad we did. The pub was fairly quiet and we chose our own table, after browsing the menu (lots of options) thought I'd try the steak. I had an 11oz and my partner had the 8oz and both were cooked as we ordered. My partner has medium rare whilst I prefer rare, the chefs got it absolutely spot on and we both thoroughly enjoyed so much so that I decided to leave a quick review. The chips were delicious and the peas, well they were peas but the steak far exceeded my expectations and I would definitely order this again. The bar staff were very friendly and our food server was really nice so all in all we had a lovely experience. Worth popping in if you're passing

Myself & my partner regularly come for dinner , lovely. Friendly staff, varied menu , great value for money. We both had the steak tonight compliments to chef on knowing how to cook steak to the liking of the customer 🙂. ( You owe me a smile now chefs lol) Caters for smokers with shelter , play area for the children and garden for summer weather, if your looking for meal,coffee or pint you cant go wrong to a cheeky trip here.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Roaring Donkey Hungry Horse in Clacton is an absolute gem! Who knew a Hungry Horse could deliver such a premium experience? Huge shoutout to Claire and the management dream team of Ryan and Paige – you guys run a top-tier operation. Chef David nailed every dish, cooked to perfection exactly as we ordered. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. These guys should be running a chef& brewer or something bigger. Highly recommend this place – 5 stars all the way! ---

Food took over an hour to come out , when it did the bacon burger has the most smallest bit of streaky bacon in to be told that’s how it should be , the burgers didn’t taste right (3 of us had burgers said the same , the jacket potatoes was powdery and the bowl had been in the microwave as it was burning hot my daughter arm caught it , after having very hungry children my daughter only ate my chips The steak come out rare still when asked for medium then when they brought it back out it was well well done Since the old manager that had been there for years has gone it has gone downhill

We came for a lovely family Sunday dinner, lots of room, so we all sat down, doesn’t say reserved on tables or any signs, only for a larger blonde lady to tell us all tables was reserved and we need to move, she was very rude, when we said there’s no reserve on table she rudely said you have to move now, we will not b returning and would definitely not recommend this please, and judge by the other reviews on here it seems to be the norm for this place

Just returned from a 2 week holiday and ate at the Roaring Donkey most nights the pub restaurant is a friendly pub for all the family and very popular with the locals and holiday makers there is a pub garden with a large play area for the kids all food is freshly cooked and if you a a fan of burgars they seem to be all hand made i recomend the Quadzilla burgar it is a monster of a burgar already booked our hoilday for next year and looking forward to returning to the Roaring Donkey i would just like to finish off by saying thank you to all the wonderful staff who work so hard there.

Lovely place to stay lovely staff , Very welcoming people, on special occasions there is food for customers.and it's free, it is a pub not a restaurant, there are plenty of choices not far from the Roaring Donkey .

Advertising £6 lunch deals but can't find the correct button on the till. Charging you normal price.

I like it here but its very understaffed and many tables left full of empty plates and glasses, need to have a person designated to just be clearing up once people have finished, eaten a few times, had salmon and it was lovely

We booked a table for 9 , the server was excellent as was the food , can't find any faults. The meals fast and lovely and hot Charlie the server was fantastic at his job and very welcoming. It's nice to see someone who enjoys their job. Thanks Charlie for giving us a pleasant meal and enjoyable time

Large Hungry Horse Greene King pub. Good quality budget meals. Good selection of beers and lagers. Friendly, efficient staff.

Come here at least once a week and have a right giggle with all the staff, especially Friday with poker and sometimes karaoke
