Overpriced on the cod and chips portion was small and frozen chips from a bag fish was ok should have gone somewhere else.

A beautiful restaurant that offered a three course menu for 19.95 Which offered a wide range of choices on all courses. Very calming and on the Sunday we visited there was a piano player. Excellent Gin menu wouldn't hesitate to recommend

We entered with some trepidation - would it be a dump? No, it wasn't. It was very nice and clean, and the lady who took our order could not have been nicer or more helpful. There was a good choice of food at reasonable prices, and very suitable for singles, couples or families who want some refreshments and the opportunity to spend a bit more time enjoying the pier 'experience'.

We visited Saturday for lunch, myself and my four year old. Restaurant was very clean and service was 1st class, promptly shown to our table by a very welcoming older gentleman who I now know to believe the owner. Drinks and food order taken promptly by a very friendly waitress who took time to speak and interactive with my little boy. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented, and hot, the childrens meals were huge, I had the chicken which was beautiful Found this restaurant and service excellent, very child friendly Defo be returning again

Visited Clacton for the day, looking for lunch this restaurant looked nice 'Owner' was uninterested, left us for 20 mins, before a different young waiter took our order Very polite but clearly over stretched lad Food hot and tasty! Watched as 'owner' stood chatting to 2 of his mates, while customers waited for food and bills Asked for our bill twice!!!! Waited 25 mins to get it Very sad

My friend and I were staying in Clacton for a couple of nights and on our first evening, having eaten earlier in the day, we walked along the seafront and thought it would be nice to sit outside with a drink and people watch. We chose The Pier, went inside to order our drinks and spoke to a young lad. The manager came over, looking us up and down, and said, dismissively, 'We're closed'. No apology, just 'we're closed'. If he'd just said 'I'm sorry - we've stopped serving now' that would have been a whole lot better. There were customers inside the restaurant who had just been served their main courses so my friend and I having a drink outside wouldn't have caused the restaurant to stay open late....besides, it was only 8.30pm!! We were quite taken aback and embarrassed walking back through the restaurant - we couldn't really believe we'd been treated this way. We ended up sitting outside Prezzos with a couple of drinks, a coffee and a dessert each so The Pier missed out on a few pennies there, I'm pleased to say. And we left before their other diners.

Saturday lunch on a sunny day at the seaside was excellent. Sitting outside you can see the lovely gardens and the sea. We all had cod and chips. The chips were crispy and perfect, the cod was excellent, some of the best fish and chips we have had. There are cheaper places to get fish and chips near the pier, but I would recommend this place as is really comfortable and the service was top notch.

We decided to have our dinner here and was very surprised at the choice. My wife chose the fish and chips whilst I had the Steak Ale pie. There were also smaller portions for our Granddaughter of chicken nuggets and the obligatory chips. Not cheap, but then I can imagine their up keep must be quite high.

Really glad to see the Pier Restaurant back in Clacton, now modernised. We had a great fish and chips meal, a lovely ice cream sundae, and a draught Peroni perfectly chilled, while looking out over the gardens and the sea. Excellent food, clean comfortable surroundings, friendly and efficient service. You couldn't ask for more. Looking forward to going back next time we are in Clacton.

Went in here as the local Wetherspoons was packed......glad we did !Customer service was spot on and the general feel if the place was very good.I had cod and chips with mushy peas , my wife had the grilled skate with veg and potatoes, the food was very good and after 2 pints of bitter and 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio we were pleasantly surprised to be handed a bill of just £35The score of 4 is purely based upon the fact that we visited on a quiet Monday lunchtime and I'd be interested to see if it is as good when it's busy and the staff really have to work the tables. If you're in the area then do pop in, the menu is varied and more than reasonably price do considering it's near sea front location.

Last week my mother and I were in Clacton and looking for somewhere to eat at lunch time. For many this is not difficult to do however my mum is elderly partially sighted and in a wheelchair. Most of the restaurants on the front had steps that were not negotiable for my mum. I noticed a small lift at the side of The Pier restaurant. I wandered inside to have a look at the facilities and was approached by the manager who asked if he could be of assistance. I asked him if the lift worked and explained my mothers position in the wheelchair - Immediately he came to our assistance. Unlocked the door to the lift from the street and explained how we were to operate it.Service was excellent - Food to the standard that we expected and customer service was superb

I may not be sure how others in the place taste like, but I think it's the best place to eat for a variety of fish and chips meal. In front of the beach, and some choices of good desserts too, we were customers who kept coming back. Services are good too, with free internet. It can be a bit costly than ordinary fish and chips dinner though.

Went on a lovely day out with the family to Clacton and decided that this looked like a nice place to eat but the food was very over priced for what it was. We ordered two cheeseburgers which was just a thin burger in a dry burger bun with a slice of cheese. The staff were very friendly and lovely but we noticed the manager (I believe his name was Nick) was extremely rude to his staff. We could hear him shouting at the staff from our table which made us feel very uncomfortable and it completely ruined our meal. His staff need to be treated with more respect as they were working extremely hard! He also told one of the girls to clear our table even though we were still eating!! Very very rude. Would not return.

Beautiful restaurant so felt confidence in order an evening meal. The restaurant was empty but as it was 4 in the afternoon did feel it would reflect. We order steak pie and a brunch burger. On both meals the chips were luke warm and my husbands peas were shrivelled and the pie had gravy on with a thick skin clearly it had all been microwaved. My brunch burger was ok and was quite happy with it. But having to pay £1.50 for the smallest cup of tea just took the biscuit. Would not go back

We visited twice this year once in early May and again in October, although we were virtually the only people on the pier, we have spent many years of family fun, holidaying here in Clacton on Sea, The Pier Cafe was empty but they still sold that much needed cuppa and a scone, hot meals were available but I was ushered out due to my wheelchair ?? I was told that there will be more room outside. So we settled for a snack rather than a hot meal.

We picked this restaurant as we weren't sure what time the fireworks were starting and didn't want to miss anything. Grabbing a table in the open fronted raised section we had a great view out to the Pier and seafront.Service was quick and the food arrived quickly, but was a bit lack lustre. We had the fish and chips plus a children's meal. The food was hot but the fish was watery inside the batter. Chips were ok though, but the Tesco's own brand ketchup that was plonked on the table sort of summed it really, it generally came across a bit cheap. The waiting staff were lovely and friendly but the manager? seemed to be more focussed on getting people finished up, as he actually looked a little put out when we said we had ordered dessert after he had enquired if we were finished. It was worth the price for the nice location but next time I might try the restaurant next door.

Ate here a couple of weeks back. Scampi was mostly breadcrumbs, my partners fish batter was greasy and the fish nothing special. If this is the best F&C in Clacton then you are better going to another town.Had Scampi from my local last week (just to check I wasn't being unduly harsh, purely research you understand) and it was how it should be, plump juicy & fresh scampi pieces with a thin crispy crumb. This isn't the worst F&C I've had but it could be a lot better.

Having recently moved to Clacton, we have been visiting different restaurants in the area so we know where to take our visitors. Today was the turn of The Pier Restaurant. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who asked if we preferred to sit outside on the verandah or inside. It was quite windy so we opted for a table for two in the conservatory area, which has big glass doors that were fully open so it felt like we were outside but without the wind and we had lovely sea views.I had homemade steak pie and chips, my partner chose cod and chips, both meals arrived quickly, were piping hot and delicious. The portions were large so unfortunately we didn't have room for any dessert. The service was second to none and we will definitely be returning with our friends.

Last Sunday, was our 8 years wedding anniversary; then we decided to go to Clacton on sea. It was cloudy and rained some times. After 2 hours drive and 2 hours walk, we felt cold, wet and hungry. Because it was the first time we were there, we chose this restaurant as quite few people ate in. We ordered a glass of white wine and a pint of Peroni. the wine tasted like a glass of sparkling water. For food, my partner had prawn cocktail and fried Skate with salad and new potatoes, I had garlic bread and full tail scampi with chips. The food looks right; HOWEVER,1. the fried Skate was not only no taste, but with a lot bones more than meat;2. the scampi was like a baby scampi fried with a big bread crumble coat;3. garlic bread and chips was cold. We had a really disappointed experience there, even the weather was better than the food.

I think calling themselves a 'Cafe' is selling themselves short. The menu is a simple 'by the sea' type menu but less is more when you do it well. The fish and chips was very good with a portion size just right. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Not a cafe at all, just a nice little restaurant right oppersite the pier. Much better than you normally get in a tourist spot. Internally very good decor and well kept. Would come back.

Located right on the seafront opposite the pier, the Pier Restaurant catered for our (pre-booked) lively party of 17 extremely well. Seated in the front conservatory, we enjoyed beautiful (unusual so far in 2013) sunshine and terrific service. Very good menu choice for both food and drinks. Most of us opted for the all day breakfast and with many requests for differing kinds of cooked eggs, none of us were disappointed. We were constantly looked after and at no time did we feel rushed. All in all, an excellent experience.

Anywhere else in the world a location over looking the sea from high on the cliffs would command a premium and a reservation. On a cold, wet and miserable Mothers Day 2013 the Pier Cafe Restaurant commanded neither. Its difficult to generate much of an atmosphere in an almost completely empty room but I would imagine that when busy there is a buzz about the place given its location on the front close by the pier itself. Decor was up to scratch. Service was efficient and smilingly pleasant. Toilets spotless. Food in well sized portion with mushiest of peas and fresh fish in crisp batter. Would use again.

We had some relatives from Devon with their dog visiting the area and needed to find a decent dog friendly place to eat. I contacted The Ship, and they advised me that they were very dog friendly, so we booked a table for lunchtime. Because of the dog, we were given a table in the bar area with a hard floor, which was understandable. The pub/ restaurant was fairly busy, but it didn't really impact on the service, especially as there were just 2 staff members serving. The meals were well presented, plentiful and hot, and served with a smile. Two of us had whitebait main meals, one had grilled cod, and the other had the chicken burger. Everything was nicely cooked and good quality and we all really enjoyed the food. Three of us had really nice desserts, and we all came away pleasantly full. Will we return? Definitely! Especially as we only live less than 10 miles away.

A few months back the Three Jays had new management , he has transform the pub utterly, warm, friendly ,most welcoming, but the prize and jewel in the crown, must be the food on offer, truly mind blowing , people go to the big chain restaurants , yet the food on offer is not a patch on the food at the three Jays. You could almost say just like Mum used to make. Veg fresh favourable , roast potato’s so tasty, nice crispy skin, texture , the meat was outstanding so tender , not paper thin again like the big chains offer. Gravy was really tasty made the meal even more extra. Price was another key , not over priced , A restaurant within a truly great public house. So no need to what for further reviews, go on book a meal NOW, I’ve seen their Christmas food list, mind blowing .

We popped in for a Sunday roast for the first time since the pub went under new management last year. WOW! The best roast dinner I’ve had in a restaurant ever. The meat was tender, the potatoes were perfectly crisp, the gravy was out of this world. I opted for a side of cauliflower cheese, which was delicious. The service was amazing too, lovely friendly staff who couldn’t have done more for us. Highly recommend! Can’t wait to go back.

Fantastic fish and chips - we ordered and paid online (easy and completely hassle-free) and we arrived a few minutes early and our order was made up there and then. The fish is really fresh and it has been cooked in fresh, clean oil, which allows you to taste all the flavour of the fish. And the chips are great, too!
