Just had amazing cod and chips takeaway. Fish perfect, fresh and not oily. Chips spot on and not burnt as some previous reviews. Service friendly and quick. Curry sauce is the best.

Went out for the day and had lunch at Yates chippy best fish and Chips I have had in years ... 😋 worth every penny

Elderly relatives choice whilst visiting Walton on a afternoon trip for a bit of childhood nostalgia. 1st impressions from outside were run down. Asked for the wheelchair access which was around the back of the building . You actually have to go through their garbage area . Big dumpster bins that absolutely reeked , stomach curling fir me let alone at the height of my wheelchair bound relative. Through the bin area and then the toilets to get to the restaurant. Disgusting! Tables really really sticky . We asked for ours to be cleaned but it was still sticky after so concluded it must be the varnish . Condiments and menus grim. Floor scattered with previous customers waste. Unorganised scramble to order at till , you'll get queue jumped by several mature patrons fighting for the senior fish special! Food average . Only shining light in the place is the one member of staff , lady ( possibly Spanish) she's a little gem , couldn't do enough for you. Whole place made me feel nauseous 🤢

The fish was nice enough though i thought it was a bit small for the price.The chips were ok though i have had better but the bread roll was very low quality and looked as if f it had been kicked round the floor a few times. I probably would go back if there was nowhere else to go.The toilets were clean but the hand dryers were not working and lastly the table menus need changing for something cleaner

Came here with some friends a few weeks ago, lady behind the counter was lovely despite the heat, and kindly refunded me as she had accidentally overcharged me (I wouldn’t have even realised if not for her!) very quick service and food was lovely and very good portions! Will be coming back

Awful! Sticky tables and sticky floors, also the smell of old cooking oil was gross. Has really gone down hill unfortunately.

If you like sticky floors and tables this is the place for you! The smell in the restaurant was awful, has really gone down hill in last few years. Told the staff the issues,they didn't seem to care!

Amazing food but the service has a lot to improve. Fish & chips are top notch but I am not sure about the chicken pies 🥧.

No complaints here ate from here many times tried alot from their menu and its all been decent and each time it's been superb staff are polite the chef does a great job the restaurant is clean and delivery service is also on point faultless service every time Ive seen the team working hard in high season they are a credit to their boss u must give this little place a visit best chippie round here trust me I tried them all yates comes out on top everytime

Fantastic fish and chips, taste was lovely , service polite and fast and helpful. A little of the main beach but well worth a visit.

Had some good old sea side chunky chips hear and a lovely curry sauce. Just £5.40 for the food and to eat in. The staff were friendly and welcoming and they do tell you it costs more to eat in. But I don't mind paying more to eat in as I'm not fighting the sea gulls The chips were crunchy and chunky and the curry sauce was so good. Food was served very quickly 5*****

Lewis gave us the warmest welcome, really amazing place. Fish and Chips is fresh, generous and delicious. 5 star recommendation are very accurate, prices and fair and yhe visit adds to a spectacular day by the sea side. Ample Seating is available and food is fresh and the kitchen is efficiency run

Fresh fish and chips, accompanied by friendly, attentive service. Great value for money and is in walking distance from the beach. Great location, and great food. Would recommend the cod and chips with tartar sauce.

Went to get food order taken then waited ten minutes only to be told the fryers were off and no food very bad service

Chips and fish was cremated all the tables was sticky told the staff the tables was sticky to which they replied yep they need replacing!!!!!

There’s a lack of communication between those taking orders and those preparing as we had to go up a number of times food wasn’t correct and drinks missed. The staff bickered in front of us and passed blame between each other. Chip quality wasn’t good at all but the lady working put it down to it being the end of potato season? Never hear that one before. The Highchair was rancid and when we asked for it to please be cleaned it was cleaner with a cloth that was black with dirt. Shame because it used to be nice here

Good fish and chips, take away or dine in. Defo best one in the area, so expect some waiting time during sunny warm weekends. Staff have always been very friendly and efficient.

So had to wait a really long time. I ask had I been forgotten. The fish was really nice I can't usually eat the batter but i did and it was smashing and didn't upset me at all. However the staff salted the chips and they where awful so so much salt. If you go there put your own salt on! Another night I gas a savaloy and chips it was smashing

Went to Yates fish and chip shop on Friday as we were in town for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She absolutely loved it as did we all. The food was outstanding, fresh, not swimming in grease, cooked immediately when we ordered and Bradley who served us was fantastic. Great food, great staff, great price. Get yourself down there.

Yet again perfect Cod and chips and Rock Eel and chips, piping hot and very crispy batter and bang on chips. We always get take away fish and chips from Yates every time we visit Walton, never had a bad meal and staff alway pleasant and polite, Emma who served was lovely and always has a smile to welcome us. To me Yates is the best fish and chip shop in Essex and have been coming to them for donkeys years. 10/10 👍

Went in here again today as its hard to stay away from this place, The fish and chips are cooked to perfection, The fryer is a true proffesional he cooks the fish to perfection and its among the best fish and chips we have ever had, The staff are very pleasant kind and efficient, nothing is too much trouble, True 5* Food and service.

Just collected this burnt offering.the chips on All our takeaway meals .are cremated and refried horrible uneatable .order placed at 730.pm .tuesday .Will return to frinton chippy from now on .just passing and thought it would be OK u.live and learn.....

Really greasy chips and fish, chips and batter pretty bland, fish was fresh and tasty after I took off the batter. The pickle was nice.

Very good fish and chips by the sea! Fish tasted amazing (both cod and haddock) and they're all very good portions (including the kids meal!) highly recommend. Yes the restaurant is a bit old, but then again, when we go to a fish and chips shop, we don't go to sit somewhere fancy!

We had walked to Walton from Frinton and built up a good appetite, so was looking forward to some seaside fish and chips. I always tend to think that being by the coast means fresh fish, but sadly that is rarely the case. The menu is misleading, as although it says fish depends on market availability, but that’s not what the boat has bought in, but what was in the freezer. I did ask when ordering, and was told it was frozen, but that did not put us off, as if of good quality and cooked well, can be almost as good. Sadly for me the fish was not up to some splendid meals we have had before, and the chips were also not great. Service was good, although the restaurant area was in need of some serious upgrading too.

The chips were mediocre at best, cold and greasy when they arrived. The curry sauce was pretty average as chippy curry sauces go, but needed some acidity. The wait was too long and it seemed like our food was ready to go way before we were served. Our table was dirty and wobbly, the chairs were old and peeling and the floor was dirty. Overall, it was quite a mediocre visit and has been better in the past.

Typical chip shop restaurant type place. Food slightly over priced for portion size but was good quality food. Big delay from ordering to even receiving drinks and was not busy at all

The price was amazing, came here for Mother’s Day and came out stuffed the size of the large fish was bigger than the plate and cooked to perfection. This restaurant never seems to fail to give a big serving for a small price.

Firstly - the lady on the desk was lovely. Sadly the food didn’t match. The chips were ok 6/10. The batter was crisp 8/10. But I’m still confused by the cod. It devoid of any noticeable flavour, and was chewy (somehow?) with nearly solid lumps within the fillet . Maybe it had severe freezer burn before being fried? Not one I’d risk again. EDIT - I braved showing the staff the fish, and they couldn’t have been more kind or understanding. I was expecting some ‘well what do you expect’ type reply and instead they were perfectly polite, not confrontational at all and gave an immediate refund even though I said a few times that wasn’t necessary. Service is 5* even if I can’t, in good faith, upgrade my food ranking yet.

First let down by staff saying we never ordered. Re ordered again while standing waiting again. Finally got our food. And I have to say it went strait in the bin. I've never had such a disgusting soggy fish and chips. Maybe if shop was run by adults and not kids it mite have a different story

Extremely rude staff member with no regard for customers with allergies. Asked if burger and chips were safe for niece with nut allergy and received the sarcastic response, 'Are you serious? Are you actually serious?' Well yes, it is a serious life-threatening allergy. She went on, 'I don't know, I can't check, can you not see how busy we are?' Regardless of whether it's the busiest day of the year, everyone has a right to eat without fear their food might kill them. Anyway, why have a sign saying to speak to a member of staff about ingredients if you have an intolerance or allergy if that's how your staff are going to respond?! Visited New Years Day at approximately 2pm. Lad serving was great and really polite.

Great chippy, food was delicious, prices were reasonable and they let us bring the pooch in (sat right at the back) which was lovely of them. Would definitely return 😊

We regularly have a cheeky takeaway from Yates fish bar as we live in in Frinton. The food is great! However, the last 2 times we've ordered from here, the curry sauce has been like water! No flavour at all either. This needs sorting out.

This is our favourite chippy. We drive to Frinton and have a lovely walk to Walton. Yesterday had the grilled fish n chips (I'm GF intolerant) First customers through the door. Sat in the window in the sun. Best way to spend a Sunday. Staff are lovely and welcoming. Would go anywhere else for fish n chips😊💖 Fish beautiful, chips crispy on outside, fluffy on inside. Perfect ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Walked in & asked to take a table , unfortunately there wasn’t any that was cleared of previous dinners crockery , eventually cleared but not cleaned , ordered food & asked for condiments and was informed that that they didn’t offer brown sauce at all . Got a refund & left , we have eaten here on many occasions & always had a good meal , it’s such a shame that the standards have dropped so low , no clean tables , food scraps on the floor & basic condiments not supplied

Busy Bank Holiday Monday at 7pm, lovely helpful staff, yummy fresh chips. One of us has Skate and loved it. Kids' potition of chips and sausage was great size. X

What a wonderful place. We ate in and everything was great. Only on a day trip but will certainly visit again. No onsite parking, but may be able to park on road outside with a disabled badge. Steps up into front door, so not aware if they have disabled access.

We use Yates fairly frequently, order ahead and collect. It's very good 4/5 times and every now and then it's not so good, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Lovely place to eat your fish and chips and watch the rain on an August day. Staff are fantastic.

Big fish portions. My mum had a large Rock which she has never seen such a big portion of it before. I had a large cod and medium chips. Determined to eat all the fish as it was so delicious and fresh, I could only manage a few chips after. Exceptionally good value for money. Staff were lovely. Definitely will be going back 😀

I've thrown away better food , chips fried in old oil at the bottom of the tray, there were 4 chips that had been fried which looked to be a dozen times left in the same oil for months on end . . the chips had a bit of an aroma that resembled burnt oil . . .

Food was delicious we opted for the take away service but you can eat in at the restaurant we had to wait for our food but I would rather wait for freshly cooked food than something that's been sitting there for a while

I have been visiting Walton-on-the-Naze, off and on, for 30+ years. I have had a number of friends that live/lived in the area, and every one of them has always recommended Yates, as their 'Go-to' Fish and chips outlet. If you are new to the area - firstly, let me tell you, that we - incomers/ daytrippers, are known to the locals, as "Chip-eaters" ) Personally, I don't find this derogatory term. However, when I am this close to the Sea, I am aware that I should be able to buy, the best Fish & Chips ever - because the fish is so super-fresh!? Well, if you are visiting, and if you want the absolute best fish & chips in Walton...go to Yates. It's a Fish & Chip shop - not to be mistaken with a Michelin *** restaurant... but, it is the best around, great portions, and a good price. You can eat-in or takeaway, but whatever you do, its probably the best Fish & Chips that you will ever taste. Highly recommend that you try it.

Except for covid I've been to this chippy since 2010 every time i come down to Frinton. Just the right amount of food, fish well cooked light crispy batter nicely cooked chips goes well with a mug of tea. This is what taking a break from 9 to god knows when is about. Update it's July 2023 just had another fish and chips still great 👍

Friendly efficient service and huge portions of fish

Lovely meal at Yates Fish Bar in Walton on the Naze on Monday night. Reasonably priced. Plenty of parking along the seafront. Lots of seating. Free sauce pots. Friendly kind staff. Lovely big portion of fish and freshly cooked chips.

Very good quality fish a chips and really clean

We wanted an easy family friendly dinner but unfortunately that is not what we got! When we let them know that our order was wrong, as ‘they thought we did not want the sausages’ ordered and asked for it to fixed we ended up bad service and attitude. This ultimately left 2 children without dinner. We won’t be using again which is a shame.

We really like it here! Every time we are in Walton we visit for a meal out!

Totally disappointed and chips and mushy peas and bread roll with the best parts on the plate. The fish was it overcooked And the butter was a hard as a rock. The steak and kidney pie tasted very cheep and was not as you would expect. We did mention the poor quality but all the table staff said “I will let them know “ . I don’t complain usually but I wouldn’t recommend this place to eat

Its the highest rated fish bar in town and it deserves it! Fantastic fresh fish and chips. Perfectly cooked, not too greasy. Service was slightly slow but that was because they were hugely busy, as it seems its the main fish bar for locals too. It was a short walk from our beach hut. I skipped the pier fish and chips as it seemed very greasy there. Glad i found this place. If your visiting Walton, get your fish and chips here!

With over twenty years of going to Walton on the naze, we know this place well. It is, and always has been, the best place to go for fish and chips, we have indeed tried others in the area, most have come and gone, but none have come close to Yates.
