Visited this place with my cousin and our 3 children one of whom is disabled and in a wheelchair for a quick snack before taking the kids on the pier as soon as we walked in the blonde lady behind the bar looked us up and down and gave us dirty looks went to bar ordered what I wanted for my 2 children and myself she was very rude still giving us dirty looks and spoke to me like I was something on the bottom of her shoe she then did the same to my cousin!! Thought it might just be because she’s a genuinely moody person until we watched her deliver food to somebody else’s table where she was very polite and friendly asked them if they wanted sauces etc which we were not offered will definitely not come back here again with or without children as not a family friendly place at all and the customer service was terrible

I have to say a massive THANK YOU to the two ladies behind the bar this morning. Their kindness and their effortlessness to care, was just what I needed. (The lady handed me my breakfast and told me it had been made with love 😊.) The Boardwalk Breakfast was delicious…and the pint went down nicely too! I’d definitely go back.

We had a great day out at Clacton on sea. The weather was kind to us & we had a walk along the promenade & along the pier. We stopped at the Boardwalk bar & grill for glasses of wine & to listen to the singer who was very good.

Foolishly stopped for 2 coffees , £6.30 she says , hmm tasteless coffee in a cardboard cup what a rip off, at 3.15 a pop, so back to wetherspoons for a decent coffee served in a proper mug and unlimited and only £1.20.

Weren’t even sure when we entered that the place was open, no one in there and not a staff member in sight for ages so we decided to order on the app and hope someone saw it! They did eventually appear and girl serving was very friendly, food was as to be expected but nothing wrong with it. It’s fine for convenience but wouldn’t be choosing to go back there in any hurry!

Went for a lovely stroll this morning along the seafront, ending up on the pier where we thought we’d stop in the Boardwalk for a nice cup of coffee. It was completely empty inside with no staff, so presumed it wasn’t open. Visited the disabled facilities on the way out and was absolutely disgusted with the state of them. As you open the door, the stink hits you before you’ve even stepped foot in there. The wooden floor is completely soaked and could quite possibly be contributing to the sewerage smell; the emergency light is barely hanging on and the walls are peeling away all over the place. How anyone is expected to use the toilet or worse still change a baby in there is beyond me!!!! I didn’t want to touch anything at all - IT’S HORRENDOUS!!!! My husband said the Men’s toilets were just as bad!!! We went for a walk on the pier, seeing all the signs saying that the pier is now open 52 weeks of the year, which is brilliant. It’s lovely to see so many people using the pier in the colder months, but when we walked up to the end of the pier to try the public toilets, they were closed.

Visited here most days during our holiday as we had a dog and sat outside. Saturday afternoon had a band on who where good. More staff where needed as the bar queue was massive at times. Good choice of drinks at competitive prices. Worth a visit.

Never been served a more disgusting meal chips had more eyes than spec savers loads of skin on them, fish was solid actually snapped the outer off to leave the tiniest bit of fish inside. Went into complain the young girl had to call for someone else, who said what’s the problem tried explaining but she said it states crispy cod ok that’s fine it might say that but this is rock solid snap your teeth cod even your wooden knives and forks snapped. Asked for refund she did she get a manager out to our table, waited over half hour no one came. We decided to leave waited ages for food to service all round terrible.

Every year me and my wife come on a holiday to Clacton on sea and we always pop in to this amazing place. The staff make you feel so welcoming and from what I’ve seen work extraordinarily hard always service with a smile polite and well mannered and ensure you are having a great time, the food and drinks are made with great care to the point I feel like who ever the chef is cooks from the heart always made quick, fresh and perfectly presented on the plate. It’s a balance between having well made food and not being overcooked. I would like to Thank you all for making us feel very welcome and thank you for all that you do. Your such Amazing hard working people, we wish them all the best and success in future We hope to see you all again soon.

Visited Clacton pier with my family and all I can say is I was Disgusted with customer service from a member of the bar staff he was very rude we only wanted to order drinks and a bit of food and needed help with ordering from the tables as he refused to serve from the bar even when it wasn’t busy, someone really needs to teach Shane some people skills and manners because We was made to feel not welcome, apart from our rude welcoming at board walk in the end we decided to stay the food and drinks were great I can’t fault them at all we also got an apology from a male member of staff wasn’t wearing a name badge but was wearing black board walk uniform he came across very understandable and polite and wanted to apologise for the way we was treated he told us he would pass on the incident to management we just hope next time we visit things will be different because it was the staffs attitude that spoiled it.

Ordered a spaghetti meatballs and a pint, table clean and food brought out by James the chef. Great good and lovely pint, price not so great on beers but good overall and happy with customer service provided! Table clean, comfortable sofa in the corner. Thanks again James!

Visited on a hot sunny day midweek afternoon trying to order a drink.Covid restrictions in place at time of visit.Outside tables half empty.Nobody inside bar. Went inside to order drinks at the counter.Told it was table service only.Order on the phone app.Explained I didn't have a phone & someone would come to the table.Sat outside waiting for half an hour being totally ignored so got up & left.Dreadful service.Took my custom elsewhere.Don't bother.

I recently visited this venue with family and friends. After sitting outside we decided to eat inside as the wind outside was picking up. We found a table but previous customers had eaten there and it was messy and needed cleaning and clearing. My wife then asked a member of staff if she could clear the table etc. The member of staff appeared and cleared the table but didn’t wipe it down with an antibacterial spray and returned to the bar. We have her the benefit of doubt and thought she would return as there was food and crumbs and ketchup left on the table. After a couple of minutes my wife returned and asked if the table could be cleaned she replied she had done it but returned with a tin of polish and a cloth, sprayed and polished the table with a notable attitude. She promptly threw the chairs back into place and disappeared no sign of antibacterial spray anywhere. The member of staff was fully aware of the current coronavirus pandemic as she wore a face mask but had a blatant disregard for hygiene which I found appalling and shocking. Upon this we promptly left and ate at a near Wetherspoons where the hygiene and awareness of the pandemic was paramount. Making us feel safe and happy.

Sitting outside on a sunny day having a few drinks and listening to the live music. Lovely family atmosphere, Inside is a bit dark but the toilets were very clean. Would certainly come back here when we are in Clacton again. Just one thing, if you drink IPA, they only serve it at the inside bar....

This place needs an overhaul, a damn good clean & a few security staff to patrol the tables outside so the groups of pot smoking out of control teenagers can be removed from the tables they all sit on, swearing, spitting & generally being a bloody nuisance to everyone around them. Who ever owns or runs the boardwalk needs to take stock & get this place under control. The toilets are horrendous too.

I always go to the pier and buy some drinks in their bar. Oneday I took some of my friends and we have drinks outside. They have live music and the outmosphere outside was nice. They always run out of food . Inside the restaurant they have high table and chairs which uncomfortable to eat your meals. Sometimes they have live performance inside.the wine can be dearly. Seems can be crowded on-busy time. The young girls serving drinks are not always happy. You can play pool inside and it joint to the amusement and bowling club inside the pier.and the worst is the toilet. So smelly and disgusting. They are not frequently cleaned. Always run out of toilet rolls and the tap water hardly have water for washing hands. It’s serving food and eatery why does the toilet not being clean more often . It’s for hygiene. Family with children use it as well , do they should clean the toilet frequently and have toilet rolls in it. Tourist is most source of income so they should have a clean toilet .

It’s been years since I’ve been to the pier so I was surprised to see this here. 6 of us came in for a light snack before going to the arcades, lovely staff, piping hot food served quite quickly and reasonable priced drinks. There was live music, followed by a de, and it was very spacious. It’s situated right at the entrance to the pier so a good place to eat after a day at the beach.

Ordered a vege breakfast and it came with bacon. Waitress couldn’t understand the problem. Stay away!

There isn't a seav view for this indoor and 30 table outdoor concesion - menus is basic, kid focused, but the processed is outline and the staff are on the ball at clearing tables quikly for bird-base hygene puposeshad to deduct from synthetic hair foudn on the chips

Always said to try the food but never went in. Today as we wanted somewhere close to beach, we went in. Disappointed of the lack of tables and chairs. Unless you sat outside. We had cod and chips and suffered later! All of us had, to put it politely, bad stomachs! First and last visit!

Went here last Sunday and had a blast with the live music sat outside in the sun the band were ace but we made the mistake having food, it was overpriced crap and being our first time in Clacton didn’t know any better, the toilets are used by everyone in Essex and a health hazard I’m sure ,with a queue similar to Euro Disney, we had a blast non the less with sun and great music

Had a great day at the pier great value for money but at the boardwalk bar reformed fish fillets ,at the seaside that is definitely a no no very dissapointed

Good venue for sitting on a hot summer's day watching the world go by.Good entertainment reasonably priced drinks.Shame about the food.Six quid for a jacket spud & beans?You're having a laugh!Hardly fine dining,chicken nuggets burgers & chips a la carte.The usual overpriced typical greasy spoon fayre.What you might come to expect in Clacton on sea.Could be forgiven you were sitting in a pavement cafe in Spain or Tenerife on a hot summer's day.Apart from the crap food & non existent service.But then this is Clacton...At least the entertainment is good.Full of local chavs & drunks & the odd punch up on the prom if you're lucky.Nuff said...

Came here today for a coffee and a break after walking around town for a while. The service whilst ordering was terrible, it was like they couldn’t be bothered to serve us. Also overheard them telling other customers, rudely, that they didn’t do breakfast when it was clearly on the menu! After being served some of the employees friends came in, being very loud and not actually ordering anything. The staff then proceeded to talk loudly about their last night out with their friends while continuing to ignore customers. Terrible atmosphere, terrible customer service. Will not be returning. The only positive was that the coffee was quite nice, although very expensive for what you actually get.

My husband and I often visit the Boardwalk on the odd occasions that we venture into town for a beer as we like the beer in here (far superior to the Moon and Starfish & Tom Peppers!) The one things that seriously puts me off coming in here is the state of the toilet facilities. I totally appreciate that they are busy and are the only toilets serving this end of the pier, but please God do something to improve them. It doesn’t matter what time of the day you visit, or if it’s during summer or winter they are generally dirty and smelly. Get your act together and sort this out please as this is a great place to have a drink.

Family of 4 visited for linchIt is a very short menu with breakfast baps in one section and then moving into starters and mains, mostly of the fried variety, excepting (from memory) prawn cocktail and spag bol.

Every time we visit Clacton this is our first place we stop have a drink relax and right a list of what we are going to do on holiday,this place is very comfortable the staff our friendly,there are toilers facilities in the bar and large screen t.v s to watch like all of Clacton pier a lot of money has been spent on this place! The chairs are so comfy you could easily fall asleep while having a drink ,both food and drink are not to expensive so you won't break the bank visiting this place thank again to the owners and staff for making yet another holiday at Clacton perfect !

Called for a couple of beers during the Clacton Airshow. Although busy service was quick and easy. Food menu seems limited, didnt eat here though

Dived into this bar and grill to escape the rain and spent a couple of very enjoyable hours with a pint or two and a burger, listening to live music from the small stage.

On a day out in Clacton, this seemed an idea place to have a bite to eat. Although its a very low cost and a nice location to eat at, I definitely wouldn't eat here again. Our table was sticky, the cutlery still had food...

Was here yesterday with close friends and family after a funeral. Was nice as the sun was out. The bar was very quiet. Kids are welcome until 9pm. Come regularly in the summer and often there are different singers on in the afternoon some are...

Great location overlooking the beach, so a must for a summer evening drink. Could improve with a few more tables round the side for when the sun sets.

Been a few times at night to enjoy a few drinks and every time we have noticed the staff to be bored and rude. Also every time we've been, they come up to us with plastic cups and told us to pour our drinks into...

Music was far too loud to be enjoyable. Costa was slowest we ever visited. Staff were looking at instructions as they must have been new. Shame but on a bank holiday you need efficient and quick staff. Visited 2 days running to have a comparison...

We came here for a late lunch and there was a live band on, giving the place a lovely atmosphere. The food was lovely and hot and tasted Fantastic.

You can look at great sight hear the sound of the sea mixed with children laughing but the food offered is very good great prices nothing could be better

When the weather is fine nothing can be better than a bit of pub grub and a pint whilst sitting outside. With spaciously set tables and great views its chill out time. With most people in holiday mode its easy to follow suit. If the weather changes then just slip inside to a very modern set up. A variety of draught beers and lagers with a full compliment of shorts. Service is swift and polite. They well earn your tip. ha ha

Lovely happy smiling blonde girl behind bar very helpful was chatty telling us what there was to do on the pier but then over heard a male member of staff being rude to her but she stayed very professional the male member of staff had serious personal hygiene issues and should be told to wash as it made us feel quite ill

Toilets absolutely disgusting tables full of uncollected glasses staff playing football behind Bar and room behind bar.Overheard staff say as it was quiet who wanted to go home. Quiet and they still could not clear tables or check toilets. I would Sack every staff member if i owned the DUMP.

Inside clean and tidy,drinks ok,music to loud the bass was fuzzy,but food is absolutely disgraceful, luckily only ordered a burger with Chips for my 17 yr old we were told 45 mins wait,can't understand why hardly anybody in here,but on further being nosey the kitchen is very small but only saw kids mingling inside on there phones,but oh lord when the burger arrived it was a piece of dried leather s**t,not even fit for dog to eat! If I was you eat any where except there, Now your thinking oh well that's your opinion,yep your right but as a retired chef of 37 yrs I've earn't that right!!

Not an extensive menu, usual burgers etc. We ordered our food at the bar, not enough cutlery out, no sauces or vinegar & the staff weren't that helpful either. Outside, it was a nice hot day, lots of left over food in tables that was being dive bombed by the seagulls!! At one point we saw some staff members bring food out and another nick a chip from someone's plate! We will return to Clacton but not to eat here!

Nice roomy bar area with a young lady singing popular songs with a very good voice that's the only positive.Otherwise we found it to be dirty, with tables not cleared or cleaned.Very poor experience at the bar, no ice for drinks or fruit for Pimms,come on get your act together. It was not even a busy day, go elsehere with your hard earned cash.

I have been here before but this time it was very dirty, the cutlery was all dirty with bits of food stuck on them all, when I told the bar staff they didn't seam to care. We had some drinks as we waited for our food and I had to ask them to change my glass as I could smell/taste how dirty the glass was, like it had been washed in a dirty puddle. When the food came out after waiting ages it was cold and didn't taste very nice. Will go out of my way not to go here again.

2 drinks cost nearly a tenner - much more expensive than nearby alternative pubs. Staff member collecting glasses outside dropped one and eventually returned to clear up - sloppily! Lots of glass was left on ground and could have caused a nasty injury if someone had walked barefoot!!Will not be back

We visited this establishment for lunch with 2 children under 5. When ordering I asked if possible for an egg for my daughter as she doesn't eat meat, and rarely fish ( the only options on the kids menu). I was point blank refused....as they stop serving eggs at 12 noon! The service was slow, the food warm and the cutlery was dirty. I had a burger which tasted like it was from a nasty burger wagon. The toilets were dirty, and the staff not very helpful or obliging. Considering this is so close to the pier I thought it would be more family orientated.....don't be fooled!

I must admit, this is the BEST place to chill on a weekend in Clacton-on-Sea when it's lovely and sunny! We came here on Sunday for my Daughter's 18th birthday and were thrilled that there was a singer outside. Inside was packed solid with people watching the football, but outside was great and we were lucky to get a table. I am disabled and use a walker, so if there is nowhere to sit wherever we visit, then we cannot stay; but there were a few tables free, which we were thrilled about.Unfortunately you will obviously have to endure the dreaded cigarette smoke coming from all angles, but once you get passed that, it's a lovely setting; and I LOVE to see our beach and promenade heaving with visitors. I'm not sure what drinks actually cost nowadays, but a pint of lemonade & Lime, a pint of Fosters and a Malibu & Coke cost £10 here; the same at Armsrongs would probably have cost double that though!! My Daughter was experimenting with drinks for the first time to see what she prefers...lets just say she's just like her Mother was at that age - Malibu & Lemonade every time!!We stayed at the Boardwalk for a couple of hours, listened to the Singer until she left, had a few drinks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We'd come straight from having a meal, so didn't need to eat anything here. I think the food is a little on the pricey side if I'm honest! A great place to be in the beaming sunshine!

Just popped in for a drink, expected extortionate prices as it's on the pier but actually quite cheap! Seemed nice enough to me, and they have live music sometimes too.

Having just arrived in Clacton we chose here for a spit of lunch.The bar was clean, the staff polite and helpful.The food was good quality,tasty and hot.

Our family took a visit on the 23/4/16 I can't thank the staff enough for making us feel welcome and comfortable they got involved with our jokes and made us have an even better time. The ladies behind the bar was great with my children offering them colouring activities if staff of Boardwalk are reading this then thank you again you all seemed very content and bubbly a special thanks to a young lady named tayler who helped me with my drunk nan hehe will be back

Stopped off in the Boardwalk Bar & Grill, as we needed to use the only open toilet on the pier after a walk up and down the pier and thought we'd have an early lunch, out of the cold wind.BIG MISTAKE.The staff had no concept of Gluten Free food, so I settled for a jacket potatoes with baked beans, and a coke. Jacket with tuna for the wife and chicken nuggets for the kids. We were told the food would be 20 minutes, but it was nearly 40 minutes before the food arrived. We kept on being offered other peoples food, even though we had one of their 'Number 5 Cards' on out table!When mu jacket arrived, it was burnt on the outside, and undercooked on the inside. REALLY, its not hard for anyone, let alone a chef to cook a jacket potatoes. The knife and folk were dirty, and needed to be cleaned, before being used.The staff tried their apparent best, but were in my opinion lazy, to put it midly.The toilets hadn't been cleaned, in a while, and were broken.All in all, the Boardwalk Bar & Grill is one to avoid.CHEAP, BUT CERTAINLY NOT CHEERFULL!

Went in for lunch with the family, the food came quick but was not very hot. The toilets were very dirty and one had a broken lock which looked like it had been broken for ages. I have to say the were very friendly and the live music was great and added to the atmosphere.

Called for a drink , with the possibility of having lunch, Saturday afternoon. Bar was reasonably busy but not rammed. However it took ages to get served with drinks despite lots of staff wandering around.Whilst queuing at the bar I noticed several tables with plates and the remains of meals on them. No one seemed to have eaten much so we decided not to risk eating there.

This is our third visit here over the few years we have been to Clacton. Ordered my usual Boardwalk burger, as good as before. Shame about the lack of alcohol free drinks though as I ordered a Becks Blue, was charged for it then to be told they don't do it anymore. I asked for another alcohol free beer but was told there was none, so coca cola all round. Lovely location, loads of outdoor seating.

I know it was the Clacton air show but really, 35 minutes to be served in Costa Coffee to get a coffee! Just one machine and one girl making it. Two other staff finishing it off and taking payment but really really slow. Machine could not do lattes. They had to get these from the kitchen which took ages.

Had taken dog down to beach for a leg stretch and suddenly felt a bit peckish, the sun was shining (for a change) and having the dog with us meant we wanted somewhere where we could sit outside. Noticed the Boardwalk and it seems ideal, especially as there was also some live music. Menu fine and dandy for what we wanted. The food came quickly and was lovely and hot. Icing on the cake was the young man who served us noticed we had a dog and offered to bring her some water! What am asset to his employer! Will definitely visit again when we are next down.

great family venue pricewise but music a bit too loud. nice views and outdoor seating. Food good cafe food.

Went 4 lunch today with Grandchildren & Great Grandson , food was delicious , the only problem was the noise from the speakers , u had 2shout 2 make conversion , why so loud , ? Background music would surfice , ( I'm a certain age now )

To be honest, we haven't visited this Bar at the front of our Pier much, but we were recently pleasantly surprised. As Parents, we've NEVER been out alone before, without our children as they are our life, but now at 16 they are old enough to be at home for an hour whilst we go for a stroll along the promenade before/after dinner. The first time we popped in to the Boardwalk was on a lovely sunny afternoon, we sat on the benches outside, looking out to the Beach and listened to a live musician....it was just like being abroad...on holiday, so relaxing AND NO UNDESIREABLES around. Unfortunately, when Hubby purchased our drinks, he was served by a miserable man who could just about manage a grunt. Such a shame. Hubby came out saying that they should definately have some female staff behind the bar as females are always friendly & enthusiastic. That's not a sexist comment, it's an honest one.The second visit, we ventured inside....it was a pleasant surprise. Again There were no undesireables in there, no youngsters swearing loudly with babies in prams...it felt a grown up place, which is what we like. Again there was only a male behind the bar, but I think he managed a sentence, which was ok! There was hardly anyone in there, but that was fine...we have eachother. The only problem to report was the Men's toilets were disgustingly filthy....hairs in the urinals, rubbish on the floor and a half hanging off toilet lid....Hubby said that a public toilet is cleaner than these ones. We did notice that people were literally coming into the bar just to use the toilets and then leaving again, so maybe if you are not using the bar then you have no respect for the facilities, who knows why people are like this!!We haven't ordered food...it's a little pricey for us...maybe if they made it more reasonably priced....Other than those couple of things, the Bar is lovely. We haven't been in of an evening before, so cannot say what it's like then..but as a treat after a nice stroll - lovely :)

My partner and I came here for lunch after being on the beach. We found the menu didn't have a great choice but was fine for a bite to eat. My partner had a chilli chicken wrap and I had the chicken caeser salad. Although my partners wrap was small, my salad was huge (not that I'm complaining!) And was absolutely delicious. The price is great what you receive and we will be back!

We stopped off for a lite bite on a visit to Clacton, and although the environment was a bit tired and not very clean in places, the food was good and the service even better! Staff were attentive and there were lots of them. On using the bathroom facilities, there was a lack of toilet paper. Fortunately a member of staff attended the facility and on being told, and inspite of being there to meet own needs, went promptly to remedy the problem! Well done!This is a great place for friends to meet, great outside area and entertainment which sounded good.
