We had several meals here over our 7 day holiday and was well fed on all occasions.Sausages are tasty. We found the lady on the till very welcoming and friendly.Four of us ate, and the bill was extremely good value.Brilliant choice on menu.Recommend the sausage, egg, chips, beans, toast and cuppa to set you up for the whole day 😋 Looking forward to returning next year for some more quality food. Toilets OK, but may need to go prepared as often found no loo roll.

Visited here for Sunday Lunch as was told "its one of the best". I had the Lamb shank roast & my mum the pork roast, both nice (although the potatoes were most certainly frozen). The kids didnt fancy a roast so one went with Kids Cod & chips, Cod was ok but the chips were overcooked. The other went for hotdog & chips that was on the specials board....again chips overcooked and not very many. The issue being when we got the bill they charged £16.90 for the hotdog & chips.....£16.90 for a deep fried sausage in a bun and overcooked chips, when questioned why so expensive we were told "its a special"....just to put into perspective a "Sailor boy big burger" on their main menu is only £14.90......they need to look at their pricing because its just crazy! Also i would suggest pricing is put against the "Specials" because i would have not ordered a hotdog & chips if i knew it was £16.90!!!

We were too late for dinner (finished serving meals at 7:30!) but we had a nice drink accompanied by our 4-legged friend. The staff are super friendly and it meant we returned the next day (Sunday) for a full English breakfast - only served on market days I believe, but the market was rubbish! Would thoroughly recommend this pub for friendliness and can’t understand why on a Friday night and Saturday lunchtime it wasn’t busier.

One of the worst experiences in a restaurant I have had with unhelpful staff and the worst fish and chips I’ve had full of grease and not properly cooked. The rules and regulations of where you can sit to eat in an almost empty restaurant were pathetic. I spent £20 on food then my 3 year old wanted a slush puppy drink only to be told there was a minimum spend of £5 on a card. It was all rubbish and a total rip off.

Very very nice food at a great price rate. However we was told at payment that we could only pay with cash, when asked why they said the card machine doesn’t work, my partner explained we don’t carry cash and reluctantly we was then allowed to pay by card. This seemed a little suspicious. They also don’t bring food to the table which is hard when you have children to listen for your number to be called out to go and collect your food 😏 staff were pottering between kitchen and till and not washing hands. We’re not wearing hair nets and were not engaging with customers. Just seemed very moody. However the food was very nice and good value for money

Went for an evening meal with family, on 4th September from the minute we walked in the staff were both friendly and helpful. We ordered our food which came out after not to much of a wait. It looked as good as it tasted and was hot. The staff checked halfway through that everything was okay. Plates cleared away promptly. Would recommend.

My partner and I visited this establishment yesterday 5th August 2021 at about midday. We were rather surprised that there were not many customers inside although some of the outside tables were occupied. We sat down and perused the menu and decided on homemade cottage pie and vegetables. I went to the counter to order, when I mentioned cottage pie the lady sighed as though we were late for lunch and there was nothing left ( not midday) and really before the busy time, she then went to enquire as to the availability which was then confirmed to be available. I asked for two white coffees then straight away changed it to decaf white, again another sigh, then made them. I was then given a number similar to a cloakroom ticket and sat down. After three quarters of an hour after other people’s numbers higher than ours were called I approached the lady whom served me who then called my number, a lady in the queue next to me held up a number exactly the same as mine. This was a couple of sausage rolls and chips, definitely not my order I asked what had happened to my order as my number was called and was told several same numbers had been handed out by mistake. We eventually received our meals after I went to the counter again, unfortunately to cap it all the food was not hot . The whole experience was most unpleasant as was all the staff’s attitude. I had to give one star if I had my way it would have been zero. Needless to say we will not be returning to this disgusting restaurant any time soon.

The waiter was rude and arrogant aswell. Will never visit again

Food was very reasonably priced and tasted nice. However, staff (apart from one lovely lady) were quite rude and not friendly at all. But my biggest gripe with this place is that they refused us a glass of tap water!! We had spent £33 in there and bought food and drink and was refused one glass of tap water. Very shocked as I thought every place had to allow tap water especially in this day and age of refilling water bottles and lowering the plastic waste. Very disappointing.

So there was a Drag artist on tonight, who was very good but loads of teenagers/young adults in and out of the pub dealing drugs. Very bad vibe.Drag artist was doing their job but I can't believe children were in the pub listening to the language and being around the adults who were off their face. Going down hill. No police called for the dealers, just the back door slammed on us trying to listen to the act, which I thought was rude. Left early and won't be returning soon.

We had spent the day with the children in a rainy, windy Clacton on Sea. After returning to our hired caravan we wanted to go out to eat. Not much choice in the area. We wanted somewhere calm, out of the wind and rain. We came across Donnas which is at the side of the Sailor boy Pub near the sea front on the Huxley holiday park. Great little find with lovely staff and very nice food. They catered well for us all, ages from 4 years to 79 years. It was a bit like going back in time (decor) but very enjoyable none the less. The cod and scampi were very good, the chips just perfect and the steak pie was delicious. The children enjoyed their lovely meals from the children’s menu. We would not hesitate to go and eat there again if ever we returned to the area.

Arrived early at our holiday camp so had a walk along the beach and found this place. Too hot for a beer so we all had slushies which were fine and priced along the same as local places. Didn't feel like eating but the partner had jumbo hot dog and chips and the daughter had chicken nuggets and chips. Both enjoyed the meals although we all already the chips have a different taste to what we are used to, might be the oil but does take a bit of getting used too.Staff were constantly cleaning and clearing away.

My husband decided to order a mushroom omelette and chips for a change and me a jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad. When we holidayed in the area last month we were generally disappointed by the quality an value for money of the meals we had at different establishments. Often too the service was lacklustre. However that is not the case here. We ordered "brie and bacon" pannini. When it arrived they each came with a generous portion of chunky good quality chips. The quantity was such that neither of us could quite finish. Another reviewer commented on the price - all I can say at £3 for a pint of larger it was 25% than most pubs where I live. So good value, good food and good service. Recommended and would go again.Easy free parking is a bonus.A slightly more generous portion of filling in the pannini and it would have been 5*'s all round

We regularly stay at Seawick Holiday Park, and always spend several evenings at The Sailor Boy.The pub is decorated in a nautical theme, and is definitely the best of the local bars/pubs. They have a good selection of drinks, which I think are very reasonably priced. It is located on Hutley's caravan park, right next to the beach, so you get a good mix of residents and holidaymakers. They have karaoke/disco on weekends, and if the weather is good, they have karaoke outside on Sunday afternoons. They have a restaurant adjoining the pub, which serves a fantastic Sunday dinner (£7.95 for main course, £10.50 for 2 courses). My Mrs couldn't decide between beef, turkey or pork, so the waiter suggested she could have a selection of all 3 meats on her plate together. The meal was fantastic quality for the price. I had the beef which was plentiful and cooked perfectly, along with Yorkshire puds, roast spuds, cabbage, peas, carrots and a boat of homemade gravy. Don't confuse the restaurant with the Sailor Boy cafe next door. Having eaten in both, the restaurant meals are far superior to the cafe (which is self service). The outdoor karaoke was great fun after lunch. There are plenty of outdoor tables which is great for the summer. Dogs are permitted and there are water bowls provided. There is also a market behind the pub every Sunday, which is very popular. All the staff at Sailor Boy are very friendly and efficient too. We will definitely return again and again.

As for the bacon it had so much taste ( not like this plastic stuff that is full of water that most places serve ). It's a long time since I had bacon like it, I actually meant to ask where it was from, but forgot Staff were friendly and as we were sitting in the bar the dog was also welcome. As a family we try and visit St Osyth once or twice a year staying on Hutley Caravan Park, there is a swimming pool, amusement arcade ect. situated on the beach front which is great for the kids to spend the day and after a long walk along the seafront best of all is the Sailor Boy pub & restaurant which is perfectly situated right on the sea front serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. A must visit. The pub and restaurant is kept very clean and the staff are always welcoming and very friendly, I must say the pub does have a great family atmosphere. There is free parking outside the pub with a Sunday morning market behind it, so into the Sailor Boy for a full English breakfast before going onto the market then a must is the Sailor Boy Sunday roast with all the trimmings there is also a large choice of desserts IF you have any room left. I am a fussy eater & the staff are always happy to accommodate me I cannot fault their service, my eldest son who has a very healthy appetite & loves his food loves just how big the dinners are. There is a large grassed area to the front of the pub with ample seating which is perfect to sit back and soak up the sun with a cool refreshing drink. Most weekends there is entertainment both in and outside the pub, I love the quiz night sadly we didn’t do very well at it.After reading other reviews on here about the restaurant seating 150 and staff calling out table numbers it is very clear they are posting in the wrong place as the sailor boy restaurant is not that big and the restaurant has table waitress service so they do not call out table numbers.

Food was awful and although a few of the staff were great the rest of them were so rude and made us feel totally unwelcome! When the waitress swore at us at the end of the meal it concluded an awful time for us all!

OK let's start with a positive. There was a young lad who served us and he was very polite, definitely a keppy. Also the place is very tidy and looked cleanAs for the negatives where do I start, the first issue we had is when we placed our order we found out that they had already run out of an item we ordered, when we placed our order again the food came out cold, my misses didn't want a fuss (mistake by me) so she continued and ate her food. Seriously how can a restaurant under cook a jacket potato? My food was very fatty and bland and my daughters food looked terrible. Sorry but it gets worse. There was an older lady which nearly turned a group of 8 away, this has nothing to do with us but all we could hear was her moaning about it to other staff and she even said to the group of 8 , we don't usually let anyone in after 7.45 so you've got lucky (time was 7.50) it was so cringe to hear her say that. She clearly wasn't happy about them turning up.Lastly we've been up all night as my daughter has been sick , she hadn't had anything else other than breakfast in the morning so clearly got this from the food eaten at the sailor boy. Sorry but we never usually comment like this but all in all a very disappointing night and we would never eat in this restaurant again.

Lovely tasty food and plenty of it! Excellent VFM! Leslie and her staff are very welcoming and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble and very accommodating for a young baby too! Can't recommend highly enough. Don't be put off by the exterior building. Clean and comfy. Will definitely visit again!

Had a meal here with the whole family and one family friend and we were most pleasantly surprised with the size of the meals they were huge and all freshly cooked to order and supper quality and fast service nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all very friendly and most helpful plenty of room inside or if the weather is good there are tables outside right next to the sea wall overall an excellent place to eat and I would highly recommend any one with family and kids to eat here don't expect 5* dinning but it is really good value and good honest food for the money we were so impressed that we all dined here the following day and had a job to finish what we ordered the meals are really big

Great place just by the seafront . Great for a quick pint or a meal . Good old fashion fish and chip shop next door . Also has a regular sunday market in the grounds. Some "colourful" characters always around so not always good for the `prudish` ..... some of the regulars enjoy a drink which is great when the karaoke starts so sometimes a good place for a laugh !Hope you understand ......

We had some relatives from Devon with their dog visiting the area and needed to find a decent dog friendly place to eat. I contacted The Ship, and they advised me that they were very dog friendly, so we booked a table for lunchtime. Because of the dog, we were given a table in the bar area with a hard floor, which was understandable. The pub/ restaurant was fairly busy, but it didn't really impact on the service, especially as there were just 2 staff members serving. The meals were well presented, plentiful and hot, and served with a smile. Two of us had whitebait main meals, one had grilled cod, and the other had the chicken burger. Everything was nicely cooked and good quality and we all really enjoyed the food. Three of us had really nice desserts, and we all came away pleasantly full. Will we return? Definitely! Especially as we only live less than 10 miles away.

We popped in for a Sunday roast for the first time since the pub went under new management last year. WOW! The best roast dinner I’ve had in a restaurant ever. The meat was tender, the potatoes were perfectly crisp, the gravy was out of this world. I opted for a side of cauliflower cheese, which was delicious. The service was amazing too, lovely friendly staff who couldn’t have done more for us. Highly recommend! Can’t wait to go back.

Fantastic fish and chips - we ordered and paid online (easy and completely hassle-free) and we arrived a few minutes early and our order was made up there and then. The fish is really fresh and it has been cooked in fresh, clean oil, which allows you to taste all the flavour of the fish. And the chips are great, too!

A few months back the Three Jays had new management , he has transform the pub utterly, warm, friendly ,most welcoming, but the prize and jewel in the crown, must be the food on offer, truly mind blowing , people go to the big chain restaurants , yet the food on offer is not a patch on the food at the three Jays. You could almost say just like Mum used to make. Veg fresh favourable , roast potato’s so tasty, nice crispy skin, texture , the meat was outstanding so tender , not paper thin again like the big chains offer. Gravy was really tasty made the meal even more extra. Price was another key , not over priced , A restaurant within a truly great public house. So no need to what for further reviews, go on book a meal NOW, I’ve seen their Christmas food list, mind blowing .
