The pub we were heading for was closed so stopped in at this old favourite. Car park packed so we thought getting a table might be hard. However, most people were outside so we were okay. Fish & Chips was good (although the batter on mine was a bit greasy) as were the two vegan offerings - chickpea and butternut squash curry, and plant-based burger.
Proper tasty home cooked food. Eaten here 3 times during our weeks stay in the area. The downside is the road from Debenham to Cretingham - it’s very narrow but nowt Yorkshire folk can’t handle. Although my hubby was a bit disgruntled that you only served Roast Pork as a roast on a Sunday lunch and no Yorkshire Puds - he’s a Beef and Yorkshire Pud chap!! the food has been exceptionally tasty and the staff amazingly friendly. Highly recommend a visit
This was like stepping back in time to the 50's- 60's. Pints of craft ale pulled from large wooden kegs behind the bar, a jolly not so old barman, Loved it.
The food was great too, nothing ultra fancy but served relatively quickly and plenty of it for a reasonable price. Dog friendly. Just when you thought that Woodbridge area pubs were all commercial chain types you come across this gem. Long may it be supported and continue.
We dropped in for lunch on Easter Friday. Although the restaurant was busy, we managed to secure a table and we both ordered steak and kidney puddings, plus a pot of tea. My wife had chips with her meal, whilst I went with the classic mashed potatoes. The menu is really quite extensive, with a lot of the classic UK dishes you would expect to see, a specials board, plus gluten free and vegetarian options. There is also a really decent choice of sweet offerings, should you fancy it, plus a choice of homemade cakes on the counter. They serve decent coffee to boot!
After very little wait, our meals were served, along with some extra gravy. We both agreed that the puddings were up there with some of the best we have eaten and a decent array of vegetables on the side. The quality was excellent and the quantity… well, we can honestly say we were stuffed! And this isn’t just limited to the cooked meals. We saw several sandwich dishes served and they were also on the generous side!
The staff were really friendly and very quick to take our order and serve us. All in all, a really lovely experience and not expensive. Considering the restaurant is in the main street of Woodbridge, we paid a fraction over £30 for our food and teas.
I really wish I had read the reviews before I went, the pork dumplings were burnt and the twice cooked pork was supposed to be hot and spicy it just tasted of cheap bbq sauce absolutely awful would not recommend ! Complete waste of money !
Great Take Away I think the best Fish a chips in Felixstowe, very friendly staff, very clean shop, card or cash option, most do not these days.reasonable, prices,a great order on line service.
Poor food.
My husband and I ordered a duck and chicken chow mein as main dish and only a minute amount of chicken/duck in each. However, not the chief concen colour of cow main was dark red/black so amount of dye in soy sauce excessive.
Never in my life have I had a chow main that colour before I felt sick to the stomach.
2nd dish salt and pepper & chilli prawns.
Enough chilli to make u run to the cold water tap. I have ordered these from other venues and never with this outcome. Obviously novice chef just sprinkling loads of chilli over top ad lib!!!
3rd dish ribs - ver good thank goodness as I would have starved!!
Meant to visit long ago to see what it was like, we weren't disappointed. We had booked to go to another Suffolk pub where we were regulars but after reading several recent reviews on Tripadvisor decided against it at the last minute. Needing a dog friendly pub for Sunday lunch to meet friends limits things but we managed to get in at The Dog at the time we wanted. Service was maybe a little on the slow side but as we were catching up with friends that we hadn't seen for a year we didn't really notice.
Nice atmosphere in the bar are where we were seated and staff were very helpful as I was the designated driver and needed low alcohol beer, given a reasonable choice by the young man taking the order. The white wine apparently was very good too.
We all ended up having Sunday roasts, 2 pork and 2 beef and both were spot on. Decent size portions and not overloaded and piled high on the plate (one of my pet hates) One of us asked for only one potato and more vegetables and that was no bother at all. One potato arrived with a nice portion of green beans.
Value wise - no complaints at all. We've had much worse Sunday roasts and paid a lot more for them.
A pity it's so far away for us as we would happily be regulars.
Excellent service, great setting, exceptional food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Location was fantastic on the banks of the river seven on a sunny day. Dog friendly is a billy bonus
My parents have been here multiple times and recommended it as a great place for my 30th birthday meal!
The food is incredible! Firstly, the menu is so varied and I wanted SO many things on there, it was hard to choose. I settled for the starter of Beef Croquettes with Wasabi Mayo and my main was beef rendang with rice. Both were delicious and full of flavour.
I also tried the Bang Bang Cauliflower which was SO tasty!
The highlight of the meal was the apple crumble though .. beautifully sweet and sugary.
It is expensive here but so worth it for the quality! Thank you for making my birthday so special!
Stayed here a couple of times and found it nice enough. However, just had a message from them to say that my booking for July has been cancelled (due to overbooking). However, rooms are still available on their website. So, what they mean is, we've cancelled your cheaper advance booking so that we can make more money from the room. I'll not be staying there again...
We've stayed at the Bell many times & are just back from another fantastic stay! We stayed for 3 nights this time & as always the staff were all excellent & really helpful. Food & Drink are great & we will be back in August! Very relaxing atmosphere & we highly recommend the Bell! Thanks very much once again! Andy & Jayne.
We came here for my husband's birthday meal and were so glad we did! He chose the tuna which was perfectly cooked with interesting and delicious accompaniments and I had the perfectly-cooked cheese omelet. Both meals were outstanding - it's quite common for both omelets and delicate fish to be overcooked and they're a good test of the competence of the kitchen staff! So well done to the team.
We were too full for dessert and ordered flat white coffees which unfortunately were a great disappointment - a large mug of something not very nice from a powdered milk type machine.
However, we will be back for another, hopefully faultless, meal!
