The Dog in Suffolk Coastal

Meant to visit long ago to see what it was like, we weren't disappointed. We had booked to go to another Suffolk pub where we were regulars but after reading several recent reviews on Tripadvisor decided against it at the last minute. Needing a dog friendly pub for Sunday lunch to meet friends limits things but we managed to get in at The Dog at the time we wanted. Service was maybe a little on the slow side but as we were catching up with friends that we hadn't seen for a year we didn't really notice. Nice atmosphere in the bar are where we were seated and staff were very helpful as I was the designated driver and needed low alcohol beer, given a reasonable choice by the young man taking the order. The white wine apparently was very good too. We all ended up having Sunday roasts, 2 pork and 2 beef and both were spot on. Decent size portions and not overloaded and piled high on the plate (one of my pet hates) One of us asked for only one potato and more vegetables and that was no bother at all. One potato arrived with a nice portion of green beans. Value wise - no complaints at all. We've had much worse Sunday roasts and paid a lot more for them. A pity it's so far away for us as we would happily be regulars.

Amazing food, lovely location, friendly service and amazing value. Went with family for Sunday lunch. Four roast beef’s plus dessert, beef was melt in the mouth and roast potatoes were great. Dessert lovely too (sticky toffee pudding). I eat out a lot in London and abroad and the value you get from local gastronomy pubs is unbelievable. Lunch for 4 was the same price as a steak and sides for 1 in London.

Really delicious food, fabulous service and a lovely atmosphere. We each had roasts, but the Al a carte menu looked fantastic too.

they was really friendly and the other employs was helpful while training me it is a well ordered and clean environment. not once did i feel uncomfortable i felt welcomed the second i walked through the door and really enjoyed working there for my first time

We had some friends up for a few nights and went for dinner. Lots of different menu items and every one was great - couldn't fault the food and friendly welcoming service we got. It was so good we went back the following night - equally good.

Really nice pub went there for my birthday had a nice time with family at the pub my grandad used to drink at in his younger years. Staff were really friendly. Will come back in the future soon!

Great food and great staff..would highly recommend the roast dinner. Only little downside is they do not serve custard with the apple crumble..but spoke to the manager and she said she is sorting it 😄. Thumbs up from me👍

Great service, charming and helpful staff and a brilliant chef whose food was delicious. We asked for no potatoes with our main meals and the chef provided roasted vegetable and long stem broccoli as a replacement. All 4 meals were cooked to perfection and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Thank you, if we lived nearer we world definitely be regulars!

Great food and great service...have been twice now and the staff are very friendly and helpful they go above and beyond. Food is 10/10 ANd the roast dinner is just the best.

We were a party 6 booked for a birthday treat. The staff were welcoming and engaging and gave us some time to settle before ordering drinks. Lovely atmosphere even as people started to drift away...we had booked for a late Sunday lunch at about 3.30pm. Cocktails were delicious and worth sampling. All our food was truly excellent and very tasty...honestly we we all delighted with our choices...which is rare these days. The birthday girl even got an unsolicited candle! A bit on the pricey side, but the quality shines through. We shall definitely be back!

As always great beer and very nice food We were sat in the bar which has a great proper pub atmosphere Until 2 families came in with 6 children under 7 !! Call me old fashioned but wouldn’t it had been better to take them to eastern farm park or somewhere else

The Dog has had a makeover and is very cosy. We had roast pork which was cooked well. The only gripe i have is the lack of vegetables we did order extra broccoli however, it said it came with roasted veg we had 1 very small piece if carrot and 1/2 a parsnip. The roast potatoes were tiny we got 3 which probably amounted to 1 small normal potato. The cauliflower cheese for 2 was tiny. The apple sauce was probably a small teaspoon if that. Come on The Dog what has happened to your Sunday Lunch.

I would love to keep this place a secret but it’s not fair to deny you all the exquisite food and service in the most beautiful village in Suffolk! We had Sunday roast and is undeniably the best roast we have ever had, leaving a wonderful taste of satisfaction when you have cleared your plate! Luckily I now live close by, so will be frequenting here as much as my waistline will allow….a little gem in Suffolk ❤️

I can't recommend Yhe Dog highly enough. The food and service was amazing. This was an incredible night out and the meal was the best I've had in many years.

We had a family lunch with an elderly friend who had teeth issues. The staff were so helpful and cooked the vegetables softer for him. There was plenty to chose from as the menu was varied. The manager who served us remembered our order both for drinks and food and knew who had ordered what which is a rare occurrence nowadays. Our meals were delicious, well presented and tasty with good well sourced ingredients. I have been to the Dog many times on and off in the past 15 years and never had a bad experience.

A strong independent offering that is nailing both good food and good beer. Rear Garden offers a good space for families with kids.

Big expectations from look of the menu. Unfortunately, big letdown. After waiting nearly an hour for main course, it arrived with very burnt flat bread that you couldn't even cut. Staff were apologetic & refunded the meal. Just as well as very expensive. Did not live up to expectation. Disappointed that chef thought this was ok to serve. Will not return. Hardly showing respect for customers.

First taste of inside taking our little pup with us "pet friendly restaurant, unusual these days", surroundings very tasteful and plenty of good comfortable seating. Staf very pleasant.

Best ever Sunday roast I've ever had, from the meat to the veg, so scrumptious. Service was excellent, they couldn't do enough to make sure you were comfortable.

Yesterday, Monday the 26th of June, I went to local villages and found that the pubs were doing good business, not necessarily selling food. It would be nice in my view to have a drink in "The Dog" 7/7

We arrived on a hot day with our dogs. We ordered our food and we’re given cutlery with our starters . The main course arrived and no cutlery or napkins were given to us, I had to go inside the pub to also ask for condiments to go with our meal. When eventually they arrived the waitress said she couldn’t find any mayonnaise ! I felt tempted to enquire if she had thought to ask in the kitchen for some or use the convenience store right next door to the pub ! The tarmac under the shingle outside was melting and stuck to our dogs and my bag. They probably needed more shingle put down . Would we go back again ….unlikely .

Friendly service, excellent food, and in our opinion good value for money. We had never before eaten trout served with samphire, and a grain mustard dressing, but it is a dish we will definitely try to replicate at home.
