Sux of us went for Dinner.. awe all chose something different and everybody loved their food.. It came out piping hot and huge portions.. The price was really good as well... You can have takeaway that you can order from the bar next door or phone in or eat in the bar.. Leon who was cooking that night even sent us some free dishes to try..

I have given an earlier review. All I can say now is don't dare to complain or you will be band. Still there are other Chinnes in the town. Pity because l did like this place.

Think they have a new chef since we last visited. Food was excellent - had a set menu - huge tender chunks of chicken; rice lovely and fresh. Think this place will start to get much busier but once people know how much it has improved. Chef comes out to every table at some point to say hi and congratulate you if you got in with chop sticks! Really glad this can now become a regular for us again as over previous years we had not been so keen. Lovely meal

Lovely food - much improved from when we came here last year. We couldn’t eat it all but it was delicious. 4* is not 5 just because of the tired decorations but food would be a 5

Excellent food and nice atmosphere in the pub. Pub open 11:00 am and not allowed dog except guide dogs.

We were recommended to visit so on Easter saturday - very hot we walked 5 miles looking forward to a pint , a sit down and a meal. We had checked the website the day before and lunch was served 12 - 3pm. On arrival at 12 .15 pm all doors locked a window slightly raised and a man and a woman polishing inside my husband tapped on the window and said hello , they immediately went away out back and sent in barking dogs to turn us away. So we then had the walk back unrefreshed. OK for whatever reason they hadn't opened but it would have been a courtesy to say sorry we are not open today rather than rely on the dogs. Never again will we visit

We got take away and it was bloody awful it tasted like perfume we will not be eating there again.🤮👎

I usually live in Australia and this dish is totally different there! Just love it the English way. Had it in the Queen's the first day I arrived. A huge portion piping hot and arrived very quickly. Will be back to have again before I leave..

This is the 2nd time we have been here in the last month , absolutely love it the food and service was amazing ,pub could could do with a bit of a makeover but other than that can't wait to come again

The Queens head used to be a beautiful restaurant in Saxmundham, great whether having a meal in or taking away. Unfortunately we visited the restaurant after not being there for a few years to find it not very pleasant. Plenty of selection in the menu, but food just generally unpleasant. Restaurant area was dirty, we were in there at around 7:30, the lady told us it was a busy night all other tables were booked (no one came in during the time we were there). Just an unusual place really! Bar area felt unpleasant also. Very sad, used to be renowned for great food!

The food used to be excellent, since the recent change of ownership the quality of the food has sadly fallen. We often used to take visiting friends knowing the food was excellent, we also had regular takeaways. Unfortunately food quality has dropped.

Very good value menu and a warm welcome from the staff. The service was a bit clunky on the night we went. Pleasant and apologetic but a delay in serving and one person's meal served twenty minutes after the other, doesn't make for the most relaxed evening, but sometimes these things just happen. Smartly presented restaurant in the former lounge bar part of the pub. Vegetable chow mein, spring rolls and seaweed all very good. Squid was a bit oily and lacked chilli IMHO, bit others may like it that way.

Such an improvement in the food. Our meals were delicious. Don't be put off by the dated appearance of the bar or rather gloomy restaurant .. just enjoy your meal. You will receive a warm welcome.

Popped in as passing through Saxundham. I normally write very positive reviews on trip advisor but felt I must comment on this. It is truly the most depressing bar I have ever walked in. Dirty and very dated. Beer was horrible. Can't comment on the food as didn't chance it- carried on to Woodbridge.

First impressions is a dirty old pub with a restaurant attached, first impressions count and we should have walked away. Food was appalling as was the unfriendly service. Would not eat there again and would not recommend it.

We stayed in Saxmundham recently and went here for dinner in the restaurant. We had the set Thai meal which was very good as was the value. The service was equally as good.

We had a lovely take away from here, having been recently for a meal. Very quick service and amazing food. Highly recommended!

Los manteles blancos de algodón y servilletas, fueron sustituidos por el papel. El personal era amable y nos dieron la bienvenida, pero el sabor de la comida tailandesa no tan buena como antes. Realmente espero que lo mejoren, ya que es una pena.

Este pub tiene algo de comida bastante buena, y también tiene algunos ale sobre el proyecto, así que puedes sup en un Adnams mientras espera para recoger un llevar!

I like to think of myself as a little bit of a Chinese connoisseur..... Love cooking it, shopping at wing yip (huge Chinese supermarket) and the culture so I have had my fair share of Chinese over the years as it's my favourite cuisine.... Moving from Birmingham which housed the wing yip and a few fine Chinese restaurants when we moved to Suffolk we were a bit disappointed with the lack of authentic Chinese restaurants/takeaways.... Most being disappointing... We tried the Queens Head and have never looked back!! Delicious, fresh, authentic cooked food.... Lovely service by the ladies behind the bar.... Takeaways are always piping hot.....best Chinese/Thai takeaway in the area by far!!!

I had never been here before but some recommended it. I loved the salt and chilli prawns (I that's what they were called) service was quick and staff were very polite and helpful

When entering was not that busy but staff seems flustered and harassed after taking our order was told would be 30 mins. 55 mins later food still had not arrived when asking where food was got told again would be 30 mins from order informed staff it had now been 55 mins and they just didn't seemed concerned after a hour the food was brought out to us with no form of apology the only saving grace is that when getting back to our accommodation the food was cooked well and tasted really nice would recommend the food to anyone but was let down by the service

Nothing special food wise. Nice ladies serving. The bar is dated for sure but there is not much choice in the town in terns of pubs

Table for 8 at 7pm ... The evening started perfectly no waiting we were shown directly to our table , given time to go through the menu . Decor & table presentation was faultless, very attentive service . We ordered several different choices from the menu & every dish was hot , well presented & very tasty. No long delays between courses , no going to the bar for drinks as they were served directly to the table . We all had without exception a fabulous, Chinese feast for a very reasonable price . Can't wait to go again ..

I booked a table for two before noticing a few bad reviews ,but to be fair the food we had was superb.We had squid and won ton soup to start and then Penang chicken and lemon and honey chicken with mixed choumein.Everything was lovely and staff were very nice.

We have used this restaurant on quite a few occasions and it has always been rather cold and we have asked for the wall heater to be switched on. The food is of a good quality and as yet it has always been tasty and well presented. On one visit my husband had almost finished his starter before mine arrived and the reason was they had a lot of take aways to deal with. I think that restaurant patrons should take priority. We would have been happy to sit and wait whilst the take away orders had been served if only we had been told. The worst problem with this restaurant are the toilets. We took family members and they were shocked at how bad they were, I really feel that in a restaurant of this size they should spend a bit of time cleaning and making sure there is sufficient toilet paper and soap or having a complete renewal.

I went with friends for a Chinese meal recently . It was very good , lots of it ,colourful and very decent price. The hotel could do with an update but it doesn't detract from the food .service very good too.

Have eaten here several times, mostly with friends who come to visit us, last night we went out on our own as a couple!! The staff know us now and always give us a good welcome, they are friendly and humorous and efficient when serving.We have never had any complaint about the food, neither have our friends, so dont understand the negative reviews already stated. Last night I had they WorTap chicken, it was delicious, just the right amount of ginger. I had Honey Ribs to start (4) they were succulent and tasty. Two glasses of wine and we were too full up to have a dessert...Under £40 for 2 courses each and 2 drinks each. We cant complain at that.

I took my family to the Queens Head last night and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. It's a Chinese restaurant attached to the pub, but actually it's got it's own little area that has an authentic look and feel with authentic music, but still is a little bit pub like. So not quite your normal Chinese restaurant, but not bad. The four of us started with Crispy Aromatic Duck and Grilled Dumplings. Both were really good. We followed up with Cantonese Sweet and Sour Chicken, Wor Tap Chicken, Egg Fried Rice and Vegetable Chow Mein. Again, all of the dishes were of a good standard. The Wor Tap Chicken was especially good actually. For my personal tastes, the Sweet and Sour was a bit overly sweet, but my children liked it. All in all, a very good meal, we had a few beers and cokes, it came to £45 which is very reasonable I'd say. Service was also very good and friendly.

I like my Chinese and Thai food, but often find a lot of take aways are disappointing when it comes to the food. But o have been really impressed to find such good quality food in sleepy Suffolk. The food is tasty, not overly salty and not greasy. The speed of the service is really quick abd the staff are lovely. I will continue to support and make use of a good quality Chinese and Thai restaurant.

Love the food here to eat in and take away. I must admit to eat in you don't get as much and you pay more which is disappointing. The toilets are a bit grubby and smelly. The customer service is good. Overall it was a lovely meal to have in and we do order a take away regularly.

Excellent restaurant would rate 12/10 if possible - high quality food and very friendly and humorous waiters which makes you feel welcomed. Can be busy and need to wait a while for table and food but it is well worth it.

I feel I cannot even give this newly acquired restaurant one rating! I was hungry, I was ready for a good meal I was disappointed. I wanted to walk out after the gluey - yes, the salty, spicey, gluey chicken corn soup ..two mouthfuls and I handed it back, then my main meal arrived lamb, ginger with spring onions...AGAIN IT WAS GLUEY! Packed with MSG? Not sure but indestion when I got home. I've had to take two charcoal pills In case of food poisioning!! If it appears to be evident withing 3 days - these folks will hear from me and my old company the PHLS! I'm really ticked off..Save you hard earned cash and go somewhere else .sorry to have to write this...dirty old place...hate it!

I am a Chef and NVQ Assessor within the Hospitality Trade , I know how hard this business is , however there is no excuse for the swill served to myself and my family . I decided to go for the meal deal as I was told they were full sized portions , they were NOT , unless two spare ribs is a full sized potion . The food was flavourless with everything tasting like it had come out of a cheap packet . Their idea of flavour was to throw a load of chillies in the mix to give some heat , if I was Assessing this I would fail it without a shadow of doubt .I tried both the Chinese Menu and the Thai menu and both appeared to have been treated with the same contempt for the customer . When are people like these going to learn that they cannot just put this junk in front of us and expect to get away with it . When I complained I was offered a discount off my next meal , as if I would eat here again !!! I have only given one star as the site will not let me give zero !!! People of Saxmundham I implore you speak with your feet and give this joke of a Restaurant a very , very , wide berth .

We always recommend this place but no longer. Last time we went we ordered a vegetarian wrap and got a seafood wrap. Shellfish makes my partner ill. We went back today and reinforced that they must not give us shellfish. We ordered amongst other things sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style. Got back to eat. The garlic butter Tofu had not a hint of garlic or butter. It was very greasy and watery with lots of black pepper. Really bland. The hot chilli veg was tasty but no chilli. The chicken tasted strange. It was King Prawn. Partner rang up. They said we definitely were given chicken. Then said we ordered King Prawn. We mentioned the mistake previously. They said it was not possible. Apparently they don't do seafood wrap. Maybe take it off the menu then (#27 FYI). Woman on phone never apologises, accusing us of lying, and shouting so loud I can hear her despite partner being on phone. Eventually they offered to replace it but we were at home and it was too late. King Prawns are more expensive too. I have to say that they did not care in the slightest. We all make mistakes, the way you deal with it says a lot about you and your business. A shame as this place can be wonderful but I will never recommend it to anyone or go there again.

We found the service here to be excellent, however the food lacked something, the sauces were a little thin but have had worse and if you are staying in Saxmudham and fancy a Chinese then this would suffice.

My first visit since Ivy the previous proprietor moved away. The menu is a little more streamlined with some new dishes. We had the Thai Feast set menu and for £17 a head couldn't complain. The food was well spiced and tasty and the service was attentative, quick but not intrusive. Pleased that it hasn't gone down hill after the change of management and, if anything, the food was even better.

Dashing through the rain from the car park we entered a typical English pub bar, drinkers in builders jeans quaffing their pints. Through another door to a lobby and then into the restaurant. The black bamboo flock wallpaper leaves you in no doubt that you are in a Chinese restaurant.Our entry was greeted without enthusiasm, we hadn't booked. However the two busy waitresses accepted our request for a table for two, rearranged the furniture and seated us. The place was clearly popular with families enjoying a Friday evening meal out. A two family group near us ignored their children except to scold them and the clearly bored youngsters ran around the restaurant, until the most hyper one was removed.We ordered a set meal for two, and despite the almost full restaurant, we received good service from the two waitresses. The food was excellent, prawn toast, crispy seaweed, and spare ribs were followed by crispy duck pancakes. The main courses of chicken, beef and sizzling prawns were tasty and substantial. We tried but failed to finish this appetizing selection. Wine to accompany the meal was not only of good quality but reasonably priced.A visit to the facilities shared by the bar revealed another side to the establishment. The rear corridor and toilets in the building cry out for a makeover.Worth a visit for the food, but at busy times it would seem sensible to reserve a table.

We live locally and get takeaways for here, food is good, not outstanding but OK.We booked a table for nine of us well in advance, it took ages to get the menu's, requested water, which turned up and then waited for the glasses, nothing.. trying to get the attention of a waiter/waitress, nothing.. finally the waitress was having trouble understanding us, we took our time and it was all written down, pork dish was given to the veggies (this kind of thing always goes down well).It took the best part of four hours to get three courses, and it wasn't like they were packed out.The desert order was not available, no problem we chose another, ahh yes, well that was off too.Coffee, you cannot get that wrong can you ? Well you can if the Irish coffees have lumpy milk sort of half floating and have curdling in it, not just one but six of them.Uninterested serving from the waited and the waitress to in addition to sighing and storming off, a real touch of professionalism.Do yourself a favour, get a takeaway or go to the Indian over the road where the service is good.

This was the only place we could get a table in Saxmundham on a Saturday night – we waited for half an hour in the bar which could do with redecorating. The waitress works extremely hard and the food was all excellent. There was a slight wait between courses but this means you can spend the whole evening there rather than being rushed out. As with all Chinese restaurants there weren’t enough pancakes with the duck. They also do takeaway but we did notice most of the time the phone went unanswered as they were so busy.

The staff couldn't be friendlier and the food is generally well cooked and spiced. There's a varied menu with all the usual dishes you'd expect in a British Chinese restaurant but a few surprises too, including a range of Malaysian dishes due to the roots of the hosts. Sea spiced pork is a favourite. Takeaways are also available.

This is a great place if you want really tastey Thai food that is consistantly good. We go to the Thai restaurant in the Queens Head every few months as it is close by. Everytime we go the food is very good. The look of the place could be improved and often it is not very busy, but the staff are very friendly and we always get a good meal. The toffee banana for dessert are also highly recommended!

great host, food was good quality with most of it sourced locally, excellent beers and wine, will be great in winter also as it has huge inglenook fires. Beer garden great for kids and dogs.. but book on busy weekends and holidays. Always has specials, so check these out.

There are so often just one or two, usually uninspiring vegetarian options on pub menus, but not so at the Queen's Head. There were several interesting mains and the two we we chose were tasty and prepared in-house from fresh ingredients. The owner is rightly proud of his chefs. The butternut squash, chickpea and feta curry sounded a little strange, but was delicious. An unexpected treat.
