Rising Sun in Suffolk Coastal

Just found out that the Rising Sun in Aldeburgh has closed down. What a terrible shame. The best chinese takeaway around. My husband isn't keen on chinese but has always enjoyed their food. It's ashame that they didn't have the space to convert to a restaurant as they would have made a killing. It's been reported that it's for financial and personal reasons. I know we are still in the grip of a cost of living crisis but we would have been prepared to pay higher cost for their great food. Goodbye Rising Sun you will be sorely missed

Rising Sun is an absolute Aldeburgh institution and will be a huge miss to the high street. Consistently good food, always a friendly welcome, and everywhere needs a good Chinese takeaway!

After spending £50 I can honestly say it was the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Phoned to make my order but don’t deliver no problem at least the dog got a walk. Got home really looking forward to our crispy duck which cost £21. It was definitely not half a duck they gave gave us 12 pancakes for which we could only fill 5 of them. I thought sweet and sour chicken balls were supposed to be crispy but they were more like the texture of doughnuts. As for the rest of it was bland so ended up in the bin will not be having anything else from this takeaway.

Terrible food …. Sunday evening quick fix munch … very disappointing food tastes burnt and that was about the only taste to it. Very sorry but very disappointed.

The delivery took over 2 hours longer than we were told and when we rang the staff were not helpful and were ignorant to our issues.

The bbq sauce tasted burnt, like burnt sugary taste, was awful and didn't eat that dish, and the restdidnt taste fresh, do not waste your money!

Had several takeaways over the past few months, each one excellent, fresh ingredients, tasty, helpful staff, highly recommended. Reasonable price, a very good reliable Chinese.

Definitely the worst Chinses meal I've had and, quite possibly the worst meal I've ever had. It tasted bad and looked even worse..It seemed as though that it was old food re-heated..Won't go back!

We have a newborn in the family - my mother summed up the meal nicely ‘i’d have preferred bottle of baby formula than eat that again’. Not a good meal - avoid at all costs. Everything tastes burned.

Had a spur of the moment chef's special chicken and two spring rolls. Both the latter looked grey and mushy inside unfortunately and tasted as bad as they looked. Very disappointing.

Worst Chinese food that I have ever had. Rice looked and tasted burnt with even the peas black. Noodles dry and charred. Roast pork curry-pork,mushrooms, onions charred-all tasted burnt. He did close up as soon as we left so I couldn’t take it back. Horrible!!

Lovely experience with Rising Sun. The food was decent for the price you pay and they delievered an order I'd forgotten to order in the shop at no extra delivery fee despite it being under the 15 pound limit. The chow mein could have been a little bit oiler for our liking, but everything else was great.

We have tried this Chinese a number of times now & I must say it is by far our new favourite. The food is lovely and hot service is very quick and great customer service.

Good range of dishes, really good flavours, singapore noodles were not the best I have had but everything else was great.

Fantastic takeaway ordered for 4 tonight, all dishes excellent and fresh, lovely fresh vegetables and sauces, not gloopy like most Chinese restaurants.

We have owned a cottage in Aldeburgh for many years and have not been to the Rising Sun Chinese for years. On the recommendation of our Christmas guests we thought that we would have a "lazy" evening and order a Chinese meal. What a revelation! I thought that the meal would be OK but was not prepared for the quality of the food. Everything we ordered was most enjoyable, especially the Half Crispy Duck which was delicious! Thank you Rising Sun Aldeburgh for helping make our evening at home so good.

Other than the miserable staff, the special chow mein was certainly special! Tasteless, bland and just about edible. Shame really as Aldeburgh is such a beautiful place. Try the locally made carrot cake from the co op across the road. Now that was the best I've had

Less than average Chinese takeaway. Won’t be eating from there again. Next time will do the 20 mins drive to Leiston instead as much better quality Chinese takeaway there.

Always wondered how this place survives, given the excellent pizza and chippy options in aldeburgh. But tried it for the first time and was blown away - absolutely delicious. Lovely people too.

Wonderful food, piping hot and delicious! Tried something different to what I normally order from my regular ‘Chinese’ and was not disappointed! Definitely recommend. We had a little time to wait but it really was worth it! Fabulous food.

First time I’ve tried and will not be going back ... the chips had been cooked about 3 times , the chicken satay was horrible and chewy ( taste more like rubber ) curry ZERO flavour. Very disappointed overall . Sweet and sour ( Hong Kong style ) was ok . Had many Chinesse in the area and will never go back here

So disappointed. Love this Chinese. But feel very let down as after 20 years of ordering from here, and delighted they now offer delivery, only to be told they don’t take card payment for delivery! Do not understand this logic at all! Please reconsider this as you’ve left us very unhappy customers where we had to cancel a very substantial order.. bearing in mind we are pressured to make card and contactless payments due to Covid, I do feel that it is not feasible for a local business to operate this way. Please reconsider this ASAP. A very disappointed , loyal, customer :-(

Having difficulty getting takeaway in Aldeburgh at short notice, the Rising Sun was able to oblige with 20 min wait, which we found very acceptable. Pleasant service, reasonably good chinese food. Would be happy to use it again.

Bad food and they overcharged by £10. Stayed in aldeburgh for a couple of nights, fancied a Chinese. First this is the only one I found locally so kind of limited which wouldn’t be a problem if it was awesome, it’s not. Didn’t have menu online so called and ordered the usual chicken chow mein etc and thought it was a bit pricey but when in Rome and all that. In town next day, saw menu in the window and I was overcharged by about £10 And the food was not great, no taste, really dry, did not enjoy it all Ps the quarter duck isn’t shredded, it’s chopped in to chunks, very disappointed all round

Best Chinese around!!! They even deliver over £15 the man on the phone is so polite and helpful, food always piping hot and delicious not greasy too!! We would never go anywhere else now.

The chicken and beef currys were 10/10 just need to work on your barbecue sauce as not nice never known a barbecue sauce to be orange and tastes nothing like barbecue sauce

Utterly dire, taste free...worst Chinese meal EVAH! Bland in the extreme. Son pushes it away and says "Can I make a cheese sandwich?' I reply "Go for it, the blandest cheese on the safest of white bread would taste better"...he nods in sad agreement

Utterly tasteless, bland, "hot and fiery" = damp squib. Dry noodles, no flavour, son "is it okay if I make a sandwich?". Do it my son, the blandest cheese on the limpest white bread would beat this hands down. Would add a pic of the food but it's in the bin.

Ordered chicken but seemed to get prawns, difficult to know because my palate was too confused by the rubbery texture to decide. Expected normal spring rolls but got something that looked like a battered sausage. I was treating my daughter to her first Chinese meal. The look on her face said it all. This was very poor, avoid!

We'd read a lot of poor reviews about this but the night we went it was spot-on. Food was hot, delicious and huge portions. Definitely recommend and will go back next time we are there. Great takeaway.

Take away chicken was disgusting, 1 carton with tiny chicken breast and a small spoon of sauce plus bag of chips cooked in fat which was obviously ancient £4.70! Avoid this place!!!!

Ordered a takeaway from here and it was awful.We ordered BBQ sauce which came up bright orange and tasted of nothing else but garlic.The spring rolls was fat and in some kind of batter and stone cold in the middle with lots of cold veg.The noodles were missing.Most of the food ended up in the bin.Food my bother wasting your money here

Recently moved to Aldeburgh and have tried this take away a couple of times. Generally the food is decent but on my second take away i discovered a ball of matted hair tangled around the bean sprouts so that was that and the lot went in the bin, £40 of food ruined! I will be returning the offending hair for a full refund. It wasnt just one hair it was a matted ball, not what you expect. I wont be patronising this take away again!

Tasteless food, staff were quite rude. Only went here because Yung Feng in Leiston is shut for a few weeks!

Do tohoto takeaway čas od času zajdu. Pokaždé vyzkouším něco jiného a musím říct, že je to tak 50 na 50. Některá jídla (např. chicken curry nebo King prawn chop suey) jsou vážně výborná! Naopak nedoporučuji kuřecí polévku s houbami. Je škoda, že přeci jen nemají pár stolečků uvnitř nebo venku, rozhodně by se jim to vyplatilo.

Tasteless and bland, im not even sure if it was Chinese. Chicken tough and tasteless, Pancake roll was like a findus crispy pancake with less filling and less taste.

got the Thai green prawn curry today and it was probably the best prawn dish I've had at a Chinese takeaway...perfectly soft instead of the usual crunchy texture.

I eat a lot of Chinese food in the UK and Asia, as it goes, the meal I had for the 6 of us was good, don’t go for the usual run of the mill stuff as that’s just take away stuff but if you like it, then fine. I was staying just around the corner and most places are proper shut in Aldeburgh in winter and this place was closest during my snowed in week....

Got a takeaway from the Rising Sun after been warned away from it, but our friends insisted that it was good. Got 5 dishes and all but 1 of them (green curry) were good. The curry was just gloopy ! Singapore noodles were the best dish. Would use again.

Disgusting!!! Never eaten such a bad chinese takeaway before. Inside the shop could of done with a deep clean too! Avoid the place.

Es una verguenza que no es un restaurante así porque creo que hará una matanza y será en un lugar diferente para comer. Después de haber reservado una cabaña para un fin de semana largo que queríamos disfrutar de una noche delante de la chimenea con una cena Fácil para llevar. Nos quedamos muy impresionados con el sol naciente, elegimos la comida para dos, que estuvo listo en pocos minutos. Ambos disfrutamos todos los platos de la comida, y nos quedamos impresionados con el gusto y la relación calidad-precio. Si te apetece un cambio de fichas para una noche, dan una oportunidad los rayos del sol.

Visité este lugar un par de veces cuando en Aldeburgh. Nada excepcional, pero la comida es buena, caliente y muy (digo muy razonable, especialmente para la zona en cuestión. Siendo un platos vegetarianos son generalmente limitados, pero este lugar incluso ajustar algunos de sus platos de carne y pescado para nosotros. Si después de comida rápida, este lugar es sin duda un punt.

This is so like a Chinese takeaway from the 1970's it's unreal. The food was absolutely disgusting. Seriously poor. If I could have been bothered I would have taken it back.

Was reluctant to order due to bad reviews, but all ok. Food was piping hot, chips were excellent. My chow mein was good and hubby enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken.

Me encanta la comida china, y cuando en casa nos vamos fuera de nuestro uso de la misma para llevar sobre una base regular, y siempre estoy un poco cauteloso cuando se trata de probar otro para llevar chino. Estábamos en Aldeburgh en vacaciones tristes disfrutamos y nos dieron la salida del sol. Me sorprendió gratamente, todo muy bonito (si no es tan bueno como mi uno normal en casa). La comida estaba lista en 10 minutos y a un precio razonable, sin duda lo recomendaría a otros.

Aldeburgh is incredibly popular holiday/short break town. Can only assume this takeaway believes nobody will ever come back. Let me assure them ... based on what we had last night nobody ever will. I hate giving bad reviews but this was dreadful.I suspected the worst when I went to collect our order. The place stank of stale burnt oil. The gentleman who served us was miserable and looked as though we had upset his schedule/evening by ordering food.I could go through each dish we ordered and tell you it's faults but to be honest I'd be wasting your time. It was all rubbish I'm afraid.This is a blot on Aldeburgh food scene, when so many other places here are terrific.

Read the reviews and with some trepidation ordered a takeaway, expecting the worst. Not much choice in Aldeburgh if you want a takeaway. We had given our chef the night off as one does occasionally in Aldeburgh and had to fend for ourselves. I needn't have worried the Rising Sun food is fine. Freshly cooked as far as I can tell. No sound of microwave bells, only the familiar sound of woks in action.Although I admit to have gone off takeaway Chinese in recent times the food is no better or worse than the multitude of Chinese restaurants near my London (and only) home. Hot and fresh and tasted familiar. No flabby water injected chicken in these dishes. Crunchy veg, fluffy rice, nothing greasy.All in all a decent enough holiday takeaway. Nothing to fear after all.P.S. I don't gave a chef.

Stopped in here for a quick takeaway after arriving in aldeburgh late one evening. The meal was prepared quite quickly and the staff very friendly. Not the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had, but for the money this was very good. The food was not overly greasy and the ingredients did not look cheap. I will be returning again in the future.

Ok so whilst yes there was no one in the place waiting, and we managed to order quickly, we were surprised at how quickly the food came. Whilst others on here have criticised how quickly it came and some aspects obviously microwaved, what we did have was tasty and to be fair good value for money. Was good enough to not be put off during another seaside weekend trip away.

Staying at Thorpeness we decided to try the takeaway. Phoned through the order and was told 30 minutes. Went to collect and had to wait another 20 minutes along with a number of very irate customers. The food itself was stewed and had little flavour apart from the sweet and sour chicken which seemed to be the only thing freshly cooked.

Uninspiring menu and service. Food, sweet and sour chicken and Singapore rice, was lacking in taste and texture. Very dull.

I'm not usually a fan of Chinese food as it's often too salty and greasy. The takeaway we had from this place last night was awesome. It tasted so fresh and clean. Really tasty without being salty or tasting fake. Would highly recommend!

Poor takeaway food look like heated up in microwave not over hot in fact found the whole meal a let down so will not ever use again

We use this place regularly and cannot fault the food and service.

Food produced in 5 minutes ! all in plastic microwave containers. Clearly no cooking done here when Aldeburgh is quiet, food produced too quickly, no cooking smells just the occasional "ping".

Very pleased with our take-away from the Rising Sun. Great value, very good quality, ample portion size with probably the cheapest prices were have ever paid for a Chinese.We ordered two chicken chow meins, a chicken curry, rice, prawn crackers and an extra portion of chips and this came to around £16. We were also pleased to note they were proudly displaying their 5 out of 5 star rating from the local authority for their high standards of food hygiene etc. Best to check online their opening hours as we went along on a Tuesday to find it was shut all day, so went back on the Wednesday. Easy to find on the main High Street.

We rented a cottage over Easter and called them with our order in advance. A couple in our group popped in to the pub next door for a beer while they waited for it. The food was very good and we had a wide selection. it was good value too.

The food here is fresh, tasty and well prepared. We eat their food regularly and are working our way though the menu. Best to order early if during the busy season. Friendly people great service and not expensive. This is the best Chinese take away for miles and indeed our favourite of all.

Food reasonable at weekends, however during the week most things would seam to microwave no sound of cooking just a ring now and then. With done taking on more than 5 minutes got is obvious. Done can be good at times but very much hit com missbe

We go here regularly for take away as we live nearby and I can tell you its the best one for miles.My favorite is :Special Curry with Fried Rice.They will take orders over the phone 01728 453396 and they are normally ready when they say they will be.Can get very busy holiday season.
