Golden Fish Bar in Suffolk Coastal

This was once a good chinese very poor ingredients portions are good but food is very bland and very expensive

So thankful this is my local chippy/Chinese.

Absolutely love it , best Chinese and the best fish n chips by far

Below average and poor quality ingredients.I chose this one because because of the good reviews and seeing many customers. unfortunately, it did not live unto expectations. whilst food was plentiful, it was bland tasting, and beef and chicken was almost non-existent. nothing tasted freshly cooked as if it was just re-heated ingredients, and quality was poor. Unusually the pork did not taste local, as when I have had pork from other Chinese, you could taste Suffolk pork, even through the spices. These ribs seemed to have been cooked some time ago and just re-heated in a bland BBQ sauce. The special fried rice was nothing special. This rates as one of the worse Chinese take-aways I've ever eaten, and for the price, very poor value.

Always have a fantastic Chinese meal from here and very reasonable prices. Friendly staff too.

Lovely Chinese food, However sometimes the food is only warm not hot. The prices are expensive compared to the other Chinese in town. The fish and chip side is not my thing. It was nicer when Wendy owned it and ran the kitchen. However its a decent Takeaway when its hot.

Was most impressed with this establishments knowledge of food allergies. I am new to gluten intolerance and the staff here were very understanding and helpful. Food was excellent and good value for money.

Poor show this time! EVERY king prawn in our curry, sweet and sour etc, we're full of pooh! My children wasted most of the meal, so a waste of money! Usually much better quality than this, but this is awful.

I have had occasional takeout from here for 5years and every meal has been excellent. I’d normally only eat Chinese at some of the best Chinese restaurants in London. It came recommended so we tried it by chance. For a regional Chinese and Chippy, bloody brilliant!!

The fish and chips were absolutely gorgeous! The best I've had for a long, long time!

Had lunchtime fish and chips special. Was given mayo, tomato sauce, salt and vinegar with the food. Chips crispy (like that) but some too hard to eat. Unfortunately frozen batered fish deep fried which made the Batter very oily and fish mushy. Was not too goid a meal.

Ordered a medium haddock and chips. Chips were nice and crispy, fish was super fresh and well battered. Much better than trawlers catch! Did a side to side comparison and golden fish bar is much better 🤌

I have visited this Chinese for 15 years , it’s the best Chinese for miles !! And I know all about Chinese food!! Hi have moved from saxmundham and after trying many different Chinese’s near my new house I would rather make the 50 min round trip to here every time ! Wendy and Geoff are fantastic and the new people that have come on board with them keep the same high level and tasty food! Teresa

Been going there since I was small and while the owners have changed over the years the food has always been good. Only small, comical niggle; they wouldn't accept a northern Irish £5 note. Thankfully I had others so it wasn't a big deal

This is a great takeaway, we always go here for our Chinese food. The chap behind the counter is super polite, and friendly. It beats the alternatives hands down, and the prices are excellent as well.

Just had fish and chips takeaway and it was 10/10. We have done the long stand in the Aldburgh queues but this, for me had the edge. If you are a fussy, picky, chip aficionado, then this place cooks them to perfection. The batter was thin, crisp and scrummy. Not going anywhere else for F/C takeaway.👏Thank you.

Fantastic selection of Gluten-free food! The staff were very knowledgeable about their food and how to adjust it for intolerance’s and allergies. Very reassuring. The food was also delicious and suitable for the whole family 😀

ordered garlic chilli prawns special chow main and special wet fried rice we came from oxford and expected the same quality .... The prawns were BITS OF STRING IN BATTER so hot it took hours to get the heat from our mouths could not eat them at all and after putting the onions and dressing from the box the prawns were in all over our other food we could not eat it. I went back into them not to get refund but just to tell the lady the prawns are far too hot and ONLY HALF PRAWNS and not recomend them to anyone else as she did with me. She did not appoligise nothing did not care at all... DO NOT ORDER THE PRAWNS ON THE STARTER OF THE MENU THEY ARE HOT HOT HOT HOT, I feel very sorry for any older people who order these only to find them burn there mouths with heat. The special fried rice was just plain rice with bit of meat on top and all dishes had omlette on top of them what is all that about just to make it look more full in the tubs. very dissapointed with them THEY DID NOT CARE AT ALL.

Worst experience I have ever had, such a shame, we used to go here regularly but unfortunately this will be our last time, they’ve certainly hiked their prices up! Some had chime some had fish and chips, we ordered a pie, he later rang to say we couldn’t be charged for the pie as been reheated too many times but they would chuck it in. Thinking this was quite a nice thing to do, presuming the pie would actually still be edible. I work the lid of the pie and it was rotten this wasn’t something that had been reheated too many times this was something that was out of date by a long shot, I nearly threw up from the smell! Put me off the rest of my food if I’m honest, wrong things on the order, and absolutely nothing was warm let alone hot! Will not be returning, think you should really tethink go ring things for free! Absolutely disgusting!

Recently had several take out meals from here and standard of food has sadly declined. Used to eat from here a lot and was never an issue now often cold or chewy or greasy. Heard this from several people too. Patron likes to engage in personal gossip from other customers which can make customers feel uncomfortable having one sided and ill informed comments made and their personal business discussed inside a busy take away of locals. Occassionally, some very rude or inappropriate comments made to customers too. Have decided not to return sadly but there are good other good takeaways in the town and nearby.

Telephoned the order number 5 times and each time there is an answer message saying they are busy with another customer but to hear this message it costs the price of the call. The phone invites you to leave a message but no one replies to your message. So we went to another Chinese take-away further along the High Street who happily took our order called the Queen's Head. Don't call us we'll call you or not as the case may be.

We have take-aways from here all of the time as we love their fish and chips but I really love the curries and pancake rolls that they do

This place is to intermittently up and down, every other time chips over cooked, or sitting around for to long, curry sauce is now to watery and the batter tasted like the smell of a wet dog. The best Chinese is from queens head, best fish and chips from trawlers catch, both also in Saxmundham.

Me and 4 friends came to get some dinner whilst on holiday tonight. We have waited over an hour for our food. When asking hour long it would be we were told on several occasions it wouldn't be long but were still left waiting. I hope the food is worth it when we finally get it since I have never ever waited this long for food in my entire experience of hospitality I have never been so disappointed. Does not take an hour to cook a hotdog

We had high hopes as the place was really busy. We ordered mixed vegetables in satay sauce and mixed vegetables with cashew nuts. Both were unpleasant; overcooked vegetables in watery sauces. Couldn’t even tell which sauce was which. The seaweed and spring rolls were ok, but overall this was a big disappointment. Our search for a decent Chinese in the area continues…

Gone downhill recently, hair found in food and for the last 4 times they've forgotten food off my order.

Most excellent Chinese. Not too sweet, not too salty, full of flavour and nice and hot. The sweet and sour sauce was especially good.

We ordered a few dishes which most of were very enjoyable except the quarter duck was too chewy, there was more batter than squid and a dish was also missing in which two of the same dishes of something else we ordered. Overall the food was lovely but a few improvements to be made.

I don’t know why I have never reviewed this place. It is my local for about seven years having previously lived in a place with a Chinese that I thought couldn’t be matched. This is honestly one of, if not the best Chinese I’ve ever had. The staff are always friendly, they were great over lockdown and always felt safe going here. They don’t put their prices up astronomically but in line with genuine increases in cost. The portions are always big and I would rather pay a little more and keep larger portions, not that the cost is bad as it is very reasonable. There is always lots of meat and it isn’t bulked out with onion like most places. The pancake rolls are good, genuine pancake rolls and not flaccid wet things filled with only bean sprouts. I am very unadventurous and usually stick with the classics (lemon chicken etc) but because they are so good. I’ve tried the Mongolian chicken which is divine and something different. They are a F and C shop too so you get nice chips if you like them with your Chinese. I have been to China town in London and cannot say that I have found a better Chinese there. We always go on NYE and the service and quality never falters. If I had one minor remark, it would be that the crispy beef portion went down a lot and although it is lovely, isn’t big enough but that’s me searching for a negative. Keep it up!

This is our local so we use it all the time. Tasty Chinese, gorgeous proper chips and huge portions. They were open all through lockdown and we have always found them to be very helpful, friendly and polite. Definitely recommended!!

We just fancied some chips for a quick lunchtime snack before we headed to Sizewell beach. Good price, freshly cooked and tasty crispy not crunchy chips. Portions were decent size and let you do your own salt and vinegar. A good quality Chinese fish and chip shop.

One of the best Chinese meals we have ever had. Seriously good, tasty and not at all greasy. All of the food was freshly cooked and the staff were so friendly. Highly recommend.

Lovely friendly staff , vast amount of choice on the menu from Chinese to traditional fish n chips, taste was amazing, my family all enjoyed what they ordered and certainly can't complain on the prices. On our short break in the area we popped there twice ,eat in or take out but highly recomend

It's been taken over, but it's exactly the same as before. Good food, I've been going there for alot of years it's not bad. Plus they have a few tables in there so you can it in if you want.

Had fish and chips for the first time in years here (last time was very poor). What an improvement! The batter on the fish was crispy and tasty without being too greasy. My daughter tells me the the Haddock was excellent. My own Rock Eel was great, possibly a smidgen over done. Maybe a little tight on the chip portions, but nothing that would stop me going back.

It made my tongue sore because its TOO SALTY.

We've been here before for Chinese but always been disappointed. The England football was on so we thought we'd try it again on the thinking they will have a lot of orders and the food would be fresh. Result..........Inedible. TOO SALTY. AGAIN. Never again

We used Golden Fish Bar 3 time this week while on holiday we had fish & chips plus had Chinese and it’s the best we have had, staff were really friendly and so polite nothing was to much trouble for them we will definitely be...

Chinese too salty. Inedible. Chips, we always seem to get the crappy little end bits. Steak pie filling was like an ice hockey puck. I dread to think how long it had been in the heater cabinet. If you want a gherkin, it's fished out...

This place never lets us down. One of the most expensive Chinese takeaways around, but also one of the nicest.

We are staying in Snape for the week and thought we would treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway. Having reviewed the views , we opted for the Golden Fish Bar in nearby Saxmundham. Whilst waiting, I could see that the restaurant was lovely and clean...

Went here as mandarin house was terrible and this isn't much better it had no flavour egg fried rice was more boiled the veg in the curry tasted boiled watery but the sauce was a nice flavour the veggie chowmein had no flavour chips were just passable would I go back never which is a shame because they was very nice in there only reason they got a 2

The chips were nice but the fish was reheated and the batter separated from the fish. The service was lovely from the gentleman but the lady who gave us our food was rude and made myself and my friend feel stupid to ask any questions so we left abruptly.

Love this place...I'm very much an Asian food connoisseur and this place is certainly the best chinese locally.

Friday's saviour after a hard week

Chips were rock hard & swimming in oil,. Waited 45 mins to be served. After a busy day at a show I was hungry but they ended up in bin.

Was staying locally for a short break and walked here for a chinese takeaway . Clean and busy on a Saturday night . Still only had to wait 10 mins . Could not complain about the food. Better than our local Chinese takeaway.

Monday 5-30pm, ordered cod ,chips mushy peas, chips tasted warmed up from earlier, fish fry, mushy peas cold ,worst fish & chips had all holiday .

Ordered my fish and chips then a member of staff came through from the back grabbed some paper and blew his nose and then wiped it with the back of his right hand. He was asked to serve the haddock,mine, he did not touch the fish with his hands, but opened the chip bag with his right fist.Meal good but spoilt by his actions

Took ages to serve after serving people who came in well after me who also had 2 Fish so why did I wait ? For recooked chips ! fish was fresh and nice batter but every thing else they got wrong the lady kept asking the fryer for mushy peas he kept forgetting seemed dazed and confused
