Winter walk by the river, springtime ramble around Grantchester, lazy summer stroll in the meadows... any time is a great time to stop at the Blue Ball. Bring the dog, get a seat by the fire! Recharge on hearty, homemade fare. If God is an Englishman, this may be his favourite pub. The Blue Ball is exactly how a pub should be. Genuine welcome from a genuine publican. No bookings but other newfangled type places are available but you'd probably prefer to be in the Blue Ball. Cheers :-)

We stayed at the Inn over the Bank holiday weekend- Saturday to Monday. The two rooms we had were warm, clean and comfortable. It’s very much a no-frills approach, but as you spend minimal time in the rooms it’s absolutely fine. The real treat here is the pub with its lovely restaurant. It’s a very traditional pub that Jeremy runs and it’s all the better for that as far as we are concerned. We spent two enjoyable evenings ending in the bar chatting with our host and laughed a lot. The restaurant is a real surprise as you enter it. An enormous log fire with comfy armchairs and sofa is a terrific place to stagger to after eating Noi’s beautiful cooking. We had Thai food on one night and steaks and fish and chips the second night. We can’t praise the food highly enough and so much of it! It’s a short drive to the Park and Ride which is regular and efficient. I would absolutely recommend this stay and also stop again if in the area.

A busy Easter weekend at Burwash Manor Barns and the Flock Cafe. It was a sunny day so we arrived early to ensure we could sit inside. Service was a little slow but friendly. I had the french toast crumpets with poached egg and bacon. It was nice enough but I felt the combination of crumpets and egg/bacon a little odd. Others tried the Turkish Eggs and Avocado on Toast which were all good. By late morning every table, inside and out, was full. You cannot pre book as they have limited seating indoors. Would go back but maybe only for cake and coffee in future.

Came for the breakfast and then to shop. Sadly breakfast was not up to the usual standard. The cafe wasn’t busy. Ordered Full English with fried eggs for me and an American Pancake breakfast for my wife. It took 20 mins for them to tell us they had no pancakes so this was switched to a second Full English with scrambled eggs for wife, so far so good. This alternative breakfast then turned up 15 mins later but not my original Full English, I had to wait another nearly 10 for that. Sadly it seemed rushed, the bacon was barely cooked and the sausages literally cooked one side only and I had no black pudding but did have an extra mushroom! I recon I got somebody else’s order. To add insult they then brought what looked like my nicely cooked breakfast to a table nearby 5 mins later! I didnt eat everything on my plate which never happens when presented with a good Full English. There must have been a breakdown in communication somewhere. I’m sure this was just a blip and they will know how to fix it.

This cafe used to be a favourite of mine for lunch with friends. Today it was a total disappointment. The menu offerings were poor. The burgers we ordered were described as being in brioche bread. They were in common white bread burger buns. My prawn sandwich with crisps was in very thick white bread, no butter and far too much corse ground black pepper in the shrimps masquerading as prawns. The crisps were actually tortilla chips which I dislike. I was not offered the choice to have or not have butter. I am careful how much bread I eat and could not eat this thick bread. The burgers my husband and friend had were also over seasoned with black pepper. Sorry we will not be lunching there again. Everything looked over cooked. Even the scones looked overcooked and unappetising. The lady taking orders looked so miserable, was not at all friendly. She dumped cutlery and glass on the counter. I was only given a fork to eat the salad on my plate. It was very expensive with my sandwich priced at £9.50. The burgers @ £14.50 each. Lunch for two with a coffee and Coke drink was over £35. No reduction offered when the staff were made aware of how awful it was.
