Outstanding Sunday roasts – not just the best in Grantchester, but probably the best in all of Cambridge. Grantchester might be a small village with a few pubs, but this place truly stands out. The roast beef was absolutely exceptional. Lovely traditional decor, a warm atmosphere, and really helpful, friendly staff. 100% recommend!

We have just had the most amazing Mother’s Day lunch! Absolutely gorgeous food and one of the best pub roasts we have ever had, felt like a proper home roast and the cauliflower cheese was heavenly! Service was lovely, very friendly and you could tell they wanted everyone to have a good time. Highly recommend 😊

We called in here after walking around the village on Thursday 20 March. It was so sunny and pleasant that we ended up having drinks outside taking in the quiet peaceful atmosphere. The service and drinks were simply superb and we could not fault the location or the stunning building. We had thought of booking up a table in here for the evening as we were staying close by in Barton. However after looking at the menu on offer we really just could not get that inspirational vibe as the menu was not what we would have liked. Anyway I am sure it will be perfect for many others but it just was not nice for us.

Lovely dog friendly pub. Staff gave us a warm welcome. Chips were served quickly and piping hot, with mayo and Ketchup before we even asked. Spaced out tables with comfy range of seats. Also covered outside seating with heaters is a big positive. Toilets were clean. Parking is a challenge so bear that in mind.

Consistently pleased after every visit. Firstly the staff are always incredibly kind and attentive, the food menu is always adjusting slightly and never lets us down, the drink options are delightful and the decor is so warm and inviting. The whole pub has different zones from pub and restaurant to a heated terrace and garden full of benches and umbrellas. Wait time is never long, dog friendly and the manager is one of a kind. It's pretty unique and special for a village like Grantchester.

Fabulous find in the middle of nowhere 😍 ( visited Cambridge from Portsmouth). Popped in for an early Valentine's supper with hubby & 2 young children and was very pleasantly surprised by location, atmosphere, food, and service. The building itself is full of history ( will be returning in summer as there was a beautiful garden, and can only imagine sipping a glass of rose/local cider in the sunshine 😊) and very quiet neighbourhood. The welcome and the hospitality throughout our meal was truly amazing- Pedro and his team are so into their "zone " to provide an excellence to their guests. The food: charcuterie to start, superb cote de bouffe for main to share with all the trimmings: butters, sauces and a must try creamed spinach 😋 kids really enjoyed their fish & chips too. Thank you and see you very soon 😉

We loved our first visit to the Green Man for lunch today. Shown to a great table even though we had not booked. Great to see a good choice of zero alcohol beers for those of us who drive 👏 Menu choices were a hit: my gin cured salmon starter was clean and fresh, and my rump steak 🥩 tasty with the chimicurui sauce. The thick cut fries were a big hit with everyone. I just had room for dessert. Recommend the winter crumble if you like desserts with a lot of seasonal fruit. It wasn't too sweet or heavy. Thank you to the amazing Pedro and team for looking after us like royalty 😊 Highly recommended and we are already planning a return visit despite living 3 counties away 😏

I can’t comment on food as we didn’t stay long enough to try it. But the beer was awful. No lemonade so I couldn’t have a shandy and the extension at the back was full of plastic flowers and greenery. It reminded me of a garden centre cafe. We didn’t finish our beer as it was so bad and went to the red lion next door which was so much nicer.

Excellent food. The roast was superb particularly the pork. Will definitely be having that again. All in all it was spectacular. Only gave 1 star less for the food in response to the kids. The kids menu is rather lacklustre in choice and the dessert was advertised as a chocolate brownie which arrived with pumpkin seeds and raspberry sauce on top, which I would of liked, but one of my children was expecting a standard chocolate brownie so missed out on dessert which was a real shame. A few more kids options, nothing fancy, would be very popular.

Food is hit and miss. Expensive for what you get. Burger for example at £19.50 was horrible. The pattie was clearly bought in, probably frozen. It was so fatty with no meat flavour and horrible squishy mouthfeel. Chips are from a catering pack and overcooked into greasy burnt sticks. It's just not acceptable for this price range and high-end pub market. Starters and snacks ok to good. Service was friendly and attentive especially by the Portuguese manager who's working hard. Pleasant ambience.

Italian Sausages excellent; the side of greens perfectly cooked. The “all-weather” extension makes for a great private party location and offers space for busy pub nights out. Worst pub experience I’ve had in years. Don’t waste your money here. Was sat at a table with no cutlery or menus. After no one coming over to us for 15 mins we ordered our drinks at the bar and got our own menus. The table next to us was tired of waiting and ordered at the bar. When we went to do the same, no one was behind the bar so we eventually were able to flag down someone to take our order. We waited for an hour (no exaggeration) after ordering before finally being able to ask someone when our food will be ready. They suddenly brought our food over and it was room temperature at best, clearly had been waiting a good while on the side before it got to us. To top it off, no one came to take our payment so we paid at the bar. My mum did not have her glasses to read the receipt (which she mentioned) and after she paid we realised they charged us for 4 drinks worth £15 that we didn’t order. Overall this pub is awfully handled. I want to emphasise that it is not the serving staffs fault, but likely not enough staff at busy times. Just don’t go here

I organised a mystery tour for my partner. Thanks to him, although I had previously been to Grant Chester, I only watched the entire tv programme recently. I had to come back to see the church and the vicarage. But I also booked a table at the Green Man as I remember my previous experience when I came 9 years ago for Mother's day lunch. The weather was awful so it was nice to enter this beautifully set up dining room. We ordered our food and for once went for dishes that we might not usually order. Our waiter was exceptionally brilliant, most helpful and chatty. All the staff is genuinely lovely. We had the sausage roll, which is amazing. The brown sauce coming with is in a separate dish is flavoursome with a zingy taste. We shared the charcuterie plate with some bread, it was one of the best I had. We had a ball of Koffman fries. As we did, you ask what is this? I can tell you they are the best fries, looking more like chips, triple cooked over 12h you will ever have. I think we could have just have this for our meal. The wine I had, rosé, was one of these where you have to think if it's not red and just about remember red isn't served cold. It was excellent. As we had room for desserts, once more, our talented waiter suggested the crème brulée or the sticky toffee pudding. We had both that we shared. They are divine. The crème brulée is just perfect, thick enough with an extremely thin layer of hard caramel with dried red berries sprinkled on the top. The lightness og the sponge for the toffee pudding is just how it should be. The sauce is thick and rich, full of flavour and the beautiful ice cream on the top stands like royalty on the top of a steaming hot square of deliciousness. We accompanied these by sharing a glass of Sauternes. The double espresso ended this succulent meal. Yes, the meal was out of this world. There is certainly a chef in the kitchen who would do very well in a Masterchef competition. But it's not just that. After our wonderful experience I also found a lovely email tous morning from the team, thanking us again for coming and have dinner at the pub, and not just thank you, it was lovely to see you, something meaningful. It's not just about the dogs. Here you get the full package. My only regret is that we were unable to leave a tip. We didn't have any change and they don't keep cash on the premises. But next time. Thank you to all for having turned this very wet day into such an amazing one. We will come back.

The staff were friendly and efficient with 40 people in addition to their usual customers. The food in particular is delicious. Some of the group had cocktails which were very well made. I don't normally change reviews, but in this case I feel I have to share my experience. Having had a fantastic meal in December here, we went back for a celebration meal over the weekend. However, sadly, our experience was really quite bad. Whilst the food was all okay (very overpriced), the service is what really let it down. We were forgotten about several times, we had to ask for our own menus, to have plates taken away, and we weren't given cutlery for our pudding. Despite there being plenty of staff around and the restaurant not being that busy, they mostly stood behind the bar chatting with each other. When we had to go and ask for our menus, the staff member didn't mention ever coming back to take our order even though we had clearly been waiting, only that someone 'might' be around soon. Really pretty terrible service. Such a shame considering my last experience but sadly will not be going back. December '23: Absolutely delicious meal and incredible service. The whole atmosphere was utterly wonderful. We were taken care of to the highest standards and now I’m incredibly full and happy. Thank you to the whole team!

Avoid it! The saddest Sunday roast I’ve had in many years! Two generous but ever so slightly undercooked slices of beef, four very tasty but child sized roast potatoes, a decent Yorkshire pudding, some odd green leaves and close to zero gravy (if you want a real person’s portion you have to pay extra 5 quid, which is unbelievable). Where are the roasted vegetables? Where’s the gravy? Where’s the adult sized roast potatoes? And on top of that it’s a set menu which will set you back 30 quid. It’s a joke! Don’t recommend unless you want to waste your money and time.

The scotch eggs are sublime as is the cauliflower soup with onion bhaji. However everything else was very good but a little odd. As nibbles you’re offered crisps on the menu, naively we felt these would be little homemade thin crisps with a seasoning but no it’s a packet of crisps served in a bowl! The food is great you can’t fault it but it’s served in a very clinical manner. Steaks arrive in the centre of the plate, there is nothing else at all on the plate. No sprinkle of anything, no steak butter melting, not even a small bit of green. The chips arrive and yes they are very nice. But that’s your steak dinner which is literally steak and chips. No sauces were offered, but you can have a sauce with a burger. It was all very boring on the eye. We ordered seasonal veg to have something to go with the steaks but the season must have been from Israel as we had a whole bowl of just French Beans and given it’s February we didn’t feel this seasonal or local. Deserts were lovely as was the service probably 3/5 is unfair but for the price we just expected something with a little more…

This is a lovely old pub that has finally been taken over by people endeavouring to utilize its true potential. It has been beautifully redecorated inside, with tasteful decor and even the loos are now gorgeous! They’ve put a new bar and serving area in the back garden, revived the garden itself and put soft tasteful lights throughout. We now look from our home to see a thing of beauty and tempting draw for the occasional meal out. Barry is an outstanding chef that delivers a variety of tasty dishes and even the bar snacks (meals for me) are wonderful. If you’re lucky you may pop in on a day when he’s been baking, which is always a treat.

Excellent refurbishment effort of the old lady that is Green Man. Very pleasant inside and out. Great, friendly staff. Love coming in again.

I used to live at the bottom of the garden, when the food was fantastic. It then suffered ups and downs, but it's back to it's best!

We had two evening meals at the Green Man, earlier in the year. On both occasions, the food, service and ambience were fantastic! It is a cosy, inviting place where the staff really care about the service and food that they provide. I would highly recommend paying them a visit. I’m looking forward to going back soon. 👏👌.

Beautiful pub but a warning to anyone with allergies / intolerances, you have to give prior notice (small text on menu online)… with no dairy free options i had to awkwardly sit with olives and bread, then found out afterwards that the “pub side” of the restaurant did chips and sandwiches?! A bit of lateral thinking would have helped make the meal more inclusive, as the food did look amazing. Also heads up, no parking!

The setting inside an old country pub is really cosy and relaxed with a classic wraparound bar area and a small intimate dining room. We had to wait a short time before we could be seated but that gave us time to chat and have a drink. The food was presented beautifully and there's huge amounts of skill both in the cooking and the concepts. There are 4 options in each course and a few of the menu items change at a time. I had Quail to start, Duck as a main and a Dog based dessert. It was all beautifully cooked and very tasty. We'd love to go again.

We stopped in here a couple of months ago on our e-bikes as we were cycling round Cambridge . I noticed they filmed here on the GodManchester TV series. Lovely pub

Wow. What an incredible meal from start to finish! Very difficult to park, it's a shame because I imagine it's one of the larger reasons people may struggle to travel here to try. Parking sharing with the nearby green king would do wonders! The waitresses were incredibly kind and jolly throughout service - very helpful when asked questions. The starter, main and dessert's value for money was off the charts. For £30, a very filling main and a Michelin star taste is incomparable. I've paid 20 quid for a dry and tasteless burger at Greene King pubs. I can't stress enough: you MUST try this place at least once. Set aside about 70 quid per person for 3 courses and a drink and you won't regret it!

Very nice atmosphere and lovely staff. Given how expensive it was, however, I was expecting something special and I was extremely disappointed. £29 for a roast and the massive, red slab of beef was so gristly and tough that it was barely edible. Doesn’t come with veg either - it’s an extra £6 per portion for those. And then they stick a 12.5% service charge on top. So £40+ for a pretty shoddy Sunday roast.

St Patrick's Day dinner last night though two days early with traditional Irish fare all home cooked. Really nice presentation with the usual warm welcome from Hans and Justine. Their St David's Day meal was terrific too. The wine list is well chosen with the Malbec very good indeed. Strangely an alcohol percentage of 13.7 % which is unusual. Another very pleasant evening.

It was a wonderful end of term with colleagues. The drinks are fresh. We tried the wings they were spot on. We stayed in the garden. Loved . Very good.

Excellent sunday roast. My roast beef is by the far the best in Cambridge, tender and not fatty. Potatoes are cooked perfectly; soft inside but crispy. My partner has been dreaming about his lamb loin, just melt in his mouth. Thank so much.
