The White Horse in South Cambridgeshire

Absolute gem of a place to eat. Has a quiet, local village pub feel and it’s not a flashy bistro type place at all but don’t judge it on that. The food here is absolutely superb. I had Thai Green Curry, others had Jalapeño Burgers and another had the Katsu curry. Five noisy lads quiet and cleaned up the lot!! Will defo recommend this as a spot for colleague passing by, and will come again when I’m back working up this way.

Great pub with a vast menu catering for all. We have been here many times this year as it's a great place for a large booking. Garden is also good with big play area. Lots of parking .

Plenty of atmosphere in this busy pub. Food was ok, good portions and tasty enough but the place seems to be a victim of its own success. Busy, busy, busy so the food presentation suffers. We will return

Always friendly, sometimes slow at the bar at lunchtimes but food comes quite quickly and is decent quality. Can be relied on to have a good selection of beers on tap.

Absolutely lovely pub in a beautiful quintessentially English building filled with traditional features. Large car park, nice garden with tables and very relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful homemade food, served quickly and cheerfully. Would definitely return. Just off the A10, ideal if you're driving and want somewhere very convenient.

From ringing up to book a table with grace who throughout was really nice But no table service we had to order food and drinks at the bar and from reading such great reviews on here I was quite surprised - I can go to a chain restaurant and do this The staff are always cleaning which was nice to see but the food came and even though my husband’s came literally a couple minutes after mine I thought as u sat there am I to start eating on my own - my hunters chicken was very watery and the chips was obviously frozen and side salad which I had just instead of peas was literally one cherry tomato - my husbands steak and ale pie was full of meat so I think that’s there speciality which he enjoyed I was just disappointed and other members of staff could have been more friendly just for our first time it didn’t give a good impression Sadly we won’t be returning

The most generous portion sizes ever...beautifully cooked beef, the perfect Sunday roast, cannot fault it and it is consistently excellent.

Family get together, 10, of us. Lovely food, and beer garden. Remember as a child, going to the office licence,when they had one, with a note, to get Mum her cigarettes, many many years ago 🤣. Was also lovely to see the Dodsons.

Motorhome stop over, stayed longer than we anticipated as the food, service, staff, and cleanliness was superb. We ate our first night and the home made pie was absolutely beautiful, stuffed full of the most tender and tasty beef, a proper home made pie with beautiful gravy and an abundance of new potatoes and peas, The lasagne was freshly cooked and tasted stunning, plenty of fresh crisp salad with it too. Night 2 prawn platter was again filled with an abundance of plump juicy prawns, the burgers were a sensation, not only home made but with home made BBQ sauce too. Just divine and the price was almost unbelievable. The staff are professional, friendly, kind, concerned that you have a great experience. I had a personal issue I had to deal with while there and the landlady and Poppy could not have been more helpful. Thank you to all the friendly kind staff for a great experience, we will be back. Come here to play pool match, but one of my favourite venues to play at, staff are really nice, landlady is welcoming. Not tried the food but heard its good and sunday roast is a must

Excellent from start to finish. Popped in at 12:30pm on a Sunday without booking, managed to find us a table even though they were busy. Food was excellent, served quickly, and the staff were friendly and super helpful

The food here is absolutely amazing, had a roast dinner and there pie and chips plates were pipping hot and food was amazing.

Fitted us in on the only table left as walk ins on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Choice of two roasts plus a great selection of other dishes. The roast lamb was a big portion with 4 roasties, a huge yorkie and side dish of three delicious fresh seasonal vegetables. My partner had generously sized beer battered haddock, chips and peas. We thought it brilliant value and served with a smile - and quickly too. The only less good point was you have to order at the bar and it can take a while if you end up behind someone ordering a lot of drinks- as we did. The quality and quantity of the food is first-class and on top of that it is on the cheaper side of,prices I’m this area. We hadn’t been here before, it doesn’t look that special from the outside but don’t be fooled, it is excellent and now we know about it we’ll be going again!

My favourite pub in Cambridgeshire. I am particularly fond of the Katsu Chicken. Warm and friendly public house, I think I may have been here for over 100 Friday lunchtimes now, and hope to do another 100. The ales are always well kept, the sign of proper old-school publicans, as it should be.

Whenever we visit relatives we always look to book in this busy pub restaurant. We have eaten here many times before and have found it to be consistently good. The staff are friendly, attentive and the food is excellent quality even when the restaurant is very busy - which it is most of the time. For us, the quality never drops a key consideration for a return visit!

I took my family out +dog for a Sunday visit and the food was perfect as always! The staff are warm and welcoming and there was even special attention for the furry family member. Highly recommended pub 🤙

I have written before re the excellence in food and service of The White Horse in Milton. The food is exceptional and the service from Niki and landlady Alva and many others is 1st Class. The Sunday roast I regularly have is superb with 3 choices of meat and an extra plate on the side with 3 vegetables. The staff know who I am with my strong Kiwi New Zealand accent and the service is always rapid and very attentive

Met here from across the UK for lunch and a cousin reunion with an Aussie relative. Chose the White Horse as it was our local when we lived in Milton for many years. The staff were so friendly, the manageress was brilliant and very informative re the menu. The food was delicious and very freshly cooked. We felt welcome and not hurried at all. Thank you for making our reunion lovely.

Apart from Milton county park It was the first time in Milton village and I was only at the surgery for a few moments when I decided to have short walk and wanted something to eat so the White Horse was the perfect place recommended from my phone and lasagna was one of the popular choices it was the best lasagna I have had for a long time and I think the best pub just a short journey out of Cambridge I also had some Apple and blackberry pie which was very good The service was very good and friendly and next time I am in Milton would definitely come back

Parked our campervan here overnight for the price of a meal and what a meal it was. Crab salad was the highlight of my wife's trip. Service was outstanding. Food was scrumptious

Typischer Pub in Milton, den wir aufgrund seiner Bewertungen aufgesucht haben. Das Personal war sehr nett, allerdings hat es etwas gedauert, bis man uns gesagt hat, dass man an der Theke selber bestellen muss. Die Portionen waren riesig und geschmacklich in Ordnung, aber man darf keine Highlights erwarten. Besonders gut waren die Onion Rings. Preislich fand ich das Niveau gemessen an den Speisen und dem Ambiente etwas zu hoch. Aber man kann hier schon Essen gehen.

What a great pub! Myself, my husband, 5 friends and 2 dogs had lunch here twice during our stay up the road in Chittering. The staff are amazing especially the landlady. Both our visits were during the very hot weather but both times we were greeted with smiles and politeness. The food is wonderful with such great choices, not the usual pub grub. It is a busy, popular pub ut service is amazing and quick. Wish it could be our local. Thanks for making our holiday even better.

Always used to go here on a Thursday with my ex was amazing food used to go to other restaurants sometimes too a Thursday meal was pretty much the only time we spent together without her mum dad and brother.

I spotted the monthly karaoke advert when walking past, so decided to pop back in with my mum because we can’t resist a singing-a-long! We have a lovely meal (blue cheese burger and fish & chips), followed by an insanely fun Karaoke disco party night with Darren. HIGHLY recommend this super fun event, if you like an all-inclusive, live music, disco-dance bonanza! I also had some “neck oil” - a rather delicious craft IPA on tap - ticked all my boxes! 👍 🍻 🎤 🎶

Popped in for a Sunday lunch and it was delicious as always. We have been coming here for the last 6 years and the service and quality of the food is of an extremely high standard. It's so easy to book over the phone with the staff being so helpful and polite. Upon arrival we always receive a lovely warm welcome. The food is well cooked and presented and piping hot. And the portions are so large I have had to ask for a wheelbarrow to help carry my belly out! If you enjoy a meal out that is great with attentive but unobtrusive staff then this is the place to go.

This is a hidden gem! There were 14 of us. The staff were fantastic and food was really good. Service was efficient. There was a celiac in our group and they were very accommodating for the intolerance. Would definitely recommend and go back!

A group of 7 of turned up without booking and they accomodated us without complaint. Stopped for lunch and had the baguettes that did not skimp on the filling and came served with fries. Good value for money place to eat

Had a really nice meal in here the other day, friendly and welcoming staff.

We stayed over in the motorhome. I had messaged and booked in advance but they had forgot to write us in the diary. It was no problem as they had space for us. Very friendly staff and locals, who welcomed our dog. Nice food, lovely beer and cider. Great night sleep, very quiet. Great country park nearby for a fab dog walk.

Food was great. Experience was less so. Firstly this is a pub that sells food. Sat in a separate area from the bar but that didn’t stop the bad language from the bar and clientele eating behind us permeating quite loudly into the eating area and spoiling our experience. Basically if you want a meal here you’d best be ready for a volley of bad language. We had an 11 year old with us and it wasn’t acceptable (the language not my son). Coupled with this you have to order at the bar and if someone has a large drinks order or there are too many waiting to get served you just have to wait. Again not great. The final kick in the teeth was going up to the bar at 2115 to order dessert only to be told that they stopped serving at 2030 (our meal was booked for 2000). They couldn’t be bothered to let us know this fact when they took our order. So to sum up if you want good bar food then this is the place for you but only if you are on a boys night out and don’t mind bad language or if your party are all profoundly deaf and don’t mind missing a dessert. Needless to say we won’t be back unless a yet to be met future friend, lives nearby and wants a boozy pub meal with a lot of mates without the gentler sex or any young offspring in attendance.

Terrible experience here. Me and my partner came here to enjoy a nice pub in the sun. However, ended up leaving because of bad service. There is benches in the garden that are dangerous. I sat on a bench that was missing one leg and got drenched in my cider. I then asked the lady behind the bar for a fresh cider or a refund, as I didn’t take a sip, it was all over me! She said “I can’t do anything about that because the bench is clearly wobbly”. There is no signage and it’s dangerous. The beer also tasted horrible. Not coming here again.

Impromptu trip to Cambridgeshire, staying at a local Travelodge and we needed Sunday dinner. Called up at 11am, was able to book for 1pm. Packed when we arrived but food came quickly. Absolutely lovely Sunday roast - crispy potatoes, lots of decent quality beef - it really was a good meal and not too expensive. Our daughter had a lovely looking kids lasagne meal which was good value for money too. Decent choice of beers on tap. Chocolate fudge cake was AMAZING!!!

Nice pub, very vibrant atmosphere and good English food and beers. I had dinner with some friends in a very warm and cosy room. Barmaids are lovely and kind. Burgers are succulent and I had a good traditional ale. Remmended.

This is what every pub should be like. Good selection of regular meals, and interesting specials board and nice beer served by people who are happy to help. Great value for money.

I wouldn't call this a gastropub. The food is basically pub food, good quality and a good range. Especially known for the green curries and a large number of beers on tap.

We visited early December of last year (2022). We took my husband’s grandmother out for lunch. We chose The White Horse based on recommendations (a lot of them!). When asking for recommendations from friends/family the most important thing was ‘homemade’ food for us. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the lady behind the bar. She was super helpful, explained how to order and offered to get us a highchair. After explaining our almost 2 year old would climb out of a highchair she went and got a booster seat so he could sit up the table with us which worked a treat! Even when it came down to ordering wine (I’m not a wine drinker) the bar lady went over to our table to chat about wines and then choose one for a member of our party which she loved. Right, the important bit the FOOD…. Oh my goodness where do I start? My husband had the Panang Thai curry, it looked amazing and he said it tasted incredible. I opted for lasagne, the mince was lovely and tender. It came with a good amount of salad, coleslaw and chips. Grandmother had the fish and chips and said she could not fault it. Nice choice of children’s meals and my son’s looked very appetising. We would 100% return to this pub. Honestly their food offering is well above what most pubs would offer. Only regret is we didn’t try it sooner.

Massive thank you to the team at The White Horse, there was 22 of us there for dinner last night with many crazy children for an 80th birthday. The service was incredible, so friendly. We can not fault the food, at all. All served well, hot and tasted so good. Complicated things at the end when paying the bill and the bar staff handled us so well. So grateful, it doesn’t go unnoticed and will definitely go again!!
