Lovely place amazing staff amd highly recommend the curry

A large group of us visited for a private lunch in the garden Tipi. Following a warm welcome and a beer or two we were served a delicious lunch with some excellent wines. The service was attentive and efficient - not made easy by the (very) late arrival of several of the group - but the Porterhouse team took it all in their stride. The food - from the extensive menu - was beautifully presented and the portions were generous. The Tipi setting was fun and a little quirky - great for a group event and is a superb addition to the more traditional setting of the original pub buildings. We heartily recommend The Porterhouse!

Visiting from Glasgow, and catching up with family in Willingham. We decided to all rock up to The Porterhouse Pub on a hot sunny day. Love it! The Tee-pee; dog friendly so pets to pat! We all sat down to chips and drinks and natter. Mum, in her 70s, suddenly announced she wanted chocolate so Annie suggested a great pudding to surprise her with! Today we returned on a more rainy day...Annie and other staff team members lovely again. I have terrible envy: this is the kind of friendly pub- with a community feel for all ages, for families and couples, and I would feel comfortable popping in for a solo pint- I WISH I had back home as a local! Great food. Great drink. Great, relaxed service. Great welcome! Thank you!

I had a lovely stay here. I checked in quite late but they were very accommodating. Great room, the kitchen was separate but that was quite nice, you had everything you needed to make cuppa, toast ect. Will definitely stay again.

Had a lunch for two. Excellent gluten free pizza. Very reasonably priced, lively atmosphere and well worth a visit. Did not try the rooms, but I am sure they will not disappoint given the quality of the pub

We've dined at The Porterhouse several times now, and every visit leaves us more impressed than the last! Our server, Jana, was so lovely and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The pub has such a cosy, welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The food is consistently amazing, but we especially recommend starting with the curried chicken strips - they're honestly a must-try and we come back for them every time! Overall, great food, fantastic service, and a wonderful place to relax. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

Lovely friendly staff as always and good food

Fish of the moment was superb. Smoked Haddock on a lovely creamy spring greens risotto. I didn't want it to end. Fish and risotto cooked perfectly. Thanks to Craig and his team in the kitchen!

Elle is amazing. She is so warm and friendly, every week she welcomes us with a smile and knows exactly what we want to order. She is one of the best things about the pub, alongside the amazing chef, Ro who creates the best pizzas.

Another fabulous meal here celebrating my Birthday. I had hallumi fries with sweet chilli dip, massamam curry with chicken, and a devine mint aero cheesecake. Chilled bottle of pino grigio to accompany it all. Very pleasant indeed. Very polite staff and decent service on a busy evening. Well done and thank you Craig and team.

Fantastic service from Elle Hutchins, always welcoming and extremely efficient. Excellent pizzas from Ro the chef as well! Couldn't recommend them more!

My wife and I come here for a cheeky little lunch at least once week while the kids are at school. Occasionally we also come for meal as a family with our children at weekends and for special occasions and date nights. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. The kitchen is always happy to make the meals your way and constantly tweaks our food when requested. Annie always greets us with a smile and has our usual drink ready in a flash. We love this place and everyone makes us feel more like friends than customers.

Excellent value Monday evening meal, lovely sausage and mash and fantastic fish beautifully cooked from the specials menu. Friendly locals who advised on the local beers and all topped off by excellent friendly service from Annie. Would highly recommend.

What an amazing evening we had here at The porterhouse, the food was delicious and plentiful and fantastic value for money. What super fun our waiter and waitress were, Greg and Annie were delightful, attentive without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back!!

Amazing food and atmosphere. We have been regularly coming back at least once a week. The kitchen even follows my personalised salad recipe! We come here for date lunches/evenings as well as family of five meals. It is our default place when we have guests over and we choose to go out with them. Always a treat everyone is looking forward to. The hosts always accommodate us on short notice or as walk ins even when very busy. Service (Megan) top notch:)))Highly recommend. :)))

Excellent! Staying in a holiday cottage in the village. Had takeaway pizza it was wonderful! Booked ahead for collection time, lovely customer service on phone, really helpful. Pizzas ready at exact time. 4 pizzas ordered, all of them outstanding. Will definitely use again if visiting. Highly recommended

Birthday meal steak and salmon very impressed with the food and location the staff are very friendly and polite.. The options of beers is good 👍 and popular. We fully intend to revisit the special food options are good for midweek.

Food was good, but the menu is uninspired beyond pizzas and burgers with Cambridge prices while being outside the city. £8.50 for a pudding is really OTT especially when it was a pretty tasteless sponge (meant to be ginger) and then orange flavour was just compote on top. No draft ale, everything electric pump, so that was disappointing. The people in the bar area were noisy so found conversation difficult as we were seated close by. Was a good halfway place to meet friends, but next time we will go elsewhere.

Great beer, Great food, great service

My wife and I ate here for lunch today. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had eating out with allergies and intolerances. They were very well informed and went well out of their way to accommodate our needs. The food was superb, and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. The seat by the window was a really lovely touch. Parking was easy. I can't think of how the experience could be improved! Even the way they explained the service charge was really transparent and non-pressuring (and it all goes to the staff). We'll definitely be coming back soon!

Very good reputation locally Second time of staying. Wasn't sure of the concept of the B and B, but I guess it works? Maybe upgrade guests to The Studio as I notice it was not occupied.? The choice of cereal was just coco pops, which wasn't good, no cheese or ham or berries., no fresh pastries. A little too basic perhaps? Being a solo traveller I did wonder if anyone at all was on site? I was alittle concerned?

Nice little pub which serves really nice food. The only downside is its a bit small which makes for a nice atmosphere but you really need to book ahead to make sure you can get a table. Beer good well looked after. Great little village pub.

Apart from no Aircon, and it being very hot, this is a lovely place to stay at.

Visited for Sunday lunch. The food was ok. Choice of turkey, beef or pork.

We really like going to the Porterhouse. They do some good beer and I like that the cask beer changes so I can try different ones. The food is so nice whenever we’ve eaten there. It’s a bit restrictive for us not allowing kids in there after 7pm - tricky to have dinner out after work in the week.

We had a lovely evening; great atmosphere, great food and great service. Couple in the party ordered steaks requesting different ends of the cooking spectrum - one blue, one medium/well done. Both were cooked to perfection. I had the fish special of panko crumb halibut which was melt in the mouth. Husband opted for the guest dessert - white chocolate and baileys bread and butter pudding. To be honest, he didn’t get much of it as after I had tasted it, it was too delicious to stop! Thank you Porterhouse for a lovely meal and looking after us all so well.

We didn’t stay in a room but I can only imagine they would be at least 4 stars after the fantastic meal and service we had in the pub. Awesome food and very very good service. We will be back!

Great atmosphere, service and food

During our recent stay at this B&B, my partner and I, both of whom have traditionally male names, encountered an issue that brought to light an important consideration for the hotel's booking process. Our room was initially prepared with twin beds, which seemed to be an assumption based on our names. This incident has underscored the need for the hotel to reevaluate its room assignment policies to prevent making assumptions about guests' bedding preferences based on their names or perceived relationship, ensuring an inclusive and respectful approach for all guests. Given this experience, I suggest that the hotel consider making twin beds the default setting for room configurations, allowing guests to request a double bed if that is their preference. This adjustment could help minimise assumptions and ensure a more comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of the nature of their relationship. Despite this initial oversight, our concerns were quickly addressed after we communicated them to a very attentive staff member. (However, this prompt resolution makes me reflect on the possibility that, had we arrived later, the issue might not have been resolved as smoothly). The room was reconfigured to feature a double bed within 45 minutes, which I was very impressed with, during which we enjoyed a delightful meal in the dining area. The food was slightly pricey but justified by its freshness and quality. The room, once adjusted, was spacious and inviting. The combined beds created a large and comfortable sleeping area. The bathroom was simple yet impeccably clean, and the shower stood out for its ample space and consistent hot water, accommodating even for someone of my height of 6ft 4. We were also pleased with the shared kitchen, which was well-stocked for breakfast and even late-night snacks, including chocolate yoghurts. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable, thanks to the staff's willingness to accommodate our needs. We look forward to returning but will make a point to specify our bed configuration preferences in advance to avoid any confusion. This experience highlights the importance of adaptable and considerate hospitality practices that cater to the diverse needs of all guests.

Another fabulous meal here this evening. With a special valentines menu in place and cleverly available the night before for those of us who can't make it out on tge 14th. Free glass of fizz and the usual wonderful service. Can't recommend this village pub enough great food, good setting and fantastic service. If you are in the area well worth a visit. Middle of the road. No better, no worse. Good was acceptable. Staff were ok and bill was fine. No complaints but a 'half empty' experience. Empty feeling.

Bit of a wait for service but excellent food

There’s 3 rooms upstairs and we stayed there when visiting family. Small cute countryside pub, foods alright and this place gets very busy for drinks. Our large bed were 2 twins put together which is the norm in Europe/UK but our beds were different heights and lumpy on this trip. Update 12/29/2023: we got the studio room this time and is much better. Services in the pub are excellent.

Met some colleagues for dinner and drinks. I didn't stay over but a colleague did. Food was great - interesting twists on classic Christmas food. Lovely service.

Cozy pub, very friendly staff and good food, we ordered a chicken tikka pizza and cheese + bacon burger, both were tasty, well cooked and a decent portion size. Good variety of menu choices and some good beer. Thankyou for a nice evening, will definitely be back.

First time and last time. Got to say the food was very tasty and the waitress very good but she need someone else to help her as she was rushed off her feet and I had to wait an age to pay the bill. I couldn’t enjoy my meal as there was a party of people with kid from the age of 3 to 8 years old screaming their heads off with no control for their parents. I really didn’t want to be there with screaming pitches and was giving me a headache. Who in there right mind as a pud owner let this happen? Not a great experience and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Nice food but rather limited vegetarian choice. Friendly server, sadly only the 3 of us in the place for lunch.

We wanted to mark our wedding with a small celebration - the Tipi was ideal for this. It is a lovely space to mingle and chat. The food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a relaxed, memorable day. I would thoroughly recomend this for family occasions, or celebrations.

We attended a party for friends who recently married. We were so impressed with the venue and organisation of the event. The team at the Porterhouse couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. We used the teepee which was most comfortable and there were rugs and hot water bottles (yes, it was during Storm Antoni) which some guests really welcomed. The food was excellent especially the thin crispy and freshly cooked pizzas. Everyone had a great time and what more could you ask!

The welcome, the room, and the decor were excellent. I stayed for 4 nights, for me, this was a little bit much. The pub is on a very busy junction with juggernauts going past often, even into the night, very noisy in the room, and quite often made me jump and woke me up. If not lorries, then there were noisy boy racers or motorbikes. Clearly this is not the pubs fault, but 2 nights at most would be OK. The breakfast was OK as a continental, but again, a bit much for 4 mornings, bananas were over ripened, no butter 2 mornings, even though I had told staff, and mouldy crumpets one morning. Just little things that are important, that were missed. My bed was made daily, but no cleaning done, bin not emptied or loo roll replaced. I bought some butter and left it there in the fridge. I had tissues with me for the bathroom. I had one meal in the pub while I was there, which was very good. The kitchen for the rooms was stocked well with a variety of drinks, so could have a hot drink at any time. Generally, as I said, 1 or 2 nights at The Porterhouse would be fine. This was booked for me through work, so I had no idea about the place before hand.

This is our second great experience eating at the Porterhouse in the last couple of weeks. I don't normally write a review for all the places we visit on our travels (unless it is really bad!), but this is an exception based on the quality of the venue and food and exceptional standard of friendly interactive service by staff. We chose to eat in the 'Tipi' on a warm summer evening and staff were thoughtful to locate our table with comfortable ventilation. Highly recommend a visit to try it out for yourselves.

The tipi was a lovely setting with fairy lights, blankets and a cosy hot water bottle to keep us snug. The food was delicious and they were happy to adapt the menu to all our fussy requirements. The service was great too. A lovely night and we will definitely be back!

Had been here before with a friend so thought I would try again with my family. Absolutely shocking food. Ordered the beef bourguignon which on the menu said served with creamy mash and greens, the only way to explain was a dollop of mash with what looked like a tin of stewing steak on top with a large portion of red cabbage on the side that clearly looked like it was being used up from Christmas! Lots of mushrooms added to the mix but not one piece of beef just tiny streaks of steak. Absolutely vile. Will not ever recommend or return.

Very clean beautiful modern decor and nice con atmosphere we were met with as we came through the door greeted by a lovely young lady who took out order and showed us to our table. My friend had a duck pizza and I had a Mediterranean platter and some small fries absolutely beautiful food very nicely presented perfectly cooked and brought out to us in a timely manner great prices.

Staff were friendly. Food was awful, quesadillas vegie, missing the veg. Money has to stretch these days, wont be back. I complained about the lack of content, minimal cheese, one mushroom and olive and was told the chef would be told.the bill was not reduced, awful.

Could not fault it from service to atmos to food, thumbs up all round. Good choice of wines and mains. Tbh starters not such good choice but chose bread with oil and vinegar from add ons to main as a starter and was great. Dined in the teepee and was so good, great idea. The gravy on the venison sausages and mash was just divine, I would drive 100 miles for that alone! Pudding we shared and was just right size. I will be thinking about this meal for a long time!

Week night visit to our local eatery - didn’t book, and chose a table which was not cleared, but although really busy, staff very quickly cleared the table and took our order. Shredded beef chilli was suitably spicy and very well seasoned with rice. Try the gammon steak, which was absolutely lovely, freshly grilled pineapple brought out the flavours alongside a fresh medley of green vegetables - a delightful meal!

I looked forward to the meal as the setting was nice in the tipi outside. The starters were nice despite the flatbreads being burnt but the main was possibly the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. I ordered the Stuffed Chicken with roast new potatoes and seasonal veg. The stuffed chicken itself was nice but the roast new potatoes were disgusting, tasteless with a hint of plastic. The veg was rubbery and difficult to eat. I won't be going back.

Very nice outdoor eating area. The middle Eastern style Gazebo outside was very nice and cozy. We went with a group of friends in a very warm day but there were fans available and the Gazebo had open curtains around it to let the air in. Food was good and every one liked it. Pizza was very nice and crispy . The only small criticism I have is that there is a small step over before getting into the Gazebo which is not marked properly and my friend tripped over it very badly. In a sunny and bright day, it is a lot darker inside and easily missed. He was lucky that his head did not hit the table in front of him. I brought it to the attention of the waiter and he didn't take it very seriously.
