Six of us, old school friends going back over seventy years, meet here for lunch at this delightful venue every six months. During our last visit on 8th October, we all enjoyed an excellent lunch served up in generous quantities. The staff were very attentive and looked after us very well, with a special mention for Rachel who really knows what customer service is all about. Needless to say, we are all looking forward to our next reunion lunch at The Three Horseshoes in Madingley.

Having heard good things about The Three Horseshoes we decided to give it a go. Everything about our experience was positive. The staff were incredibly attentive, food tasty, we had the set lunch. Must importantly it is wheelchair accessible. Entrance via a ramp, which is put down on request. The entrance to the restaurant is a bit tight, but there is enough room for a standard size wheelchair. Good disabled toilet, which was big enough and clean. I couldn't see any disabled parking, but the car park was very full. Would return again.

Superb meal – well thought-out menu; great combination of flavours; cooked perfectly. One of the best meals out we've had in the area. The restaurant was lovely and not too noisy. Staff were fantastic. I have no negative comments at all. We had a really wonderful meal out.

Needed somewhere for an early supper when visiting the area with my 80 year old Mum. From the minute we walked in everything impressed. Clean, tidy decor , Staff team working together ( our waitress was very helpful and friendly without being overly attentive and pushy ) the beer was great and the food delicious! Mum said “ This is the sort of place we like, especially as the children here are well behaved” which sums up the clientele too , I guess. Will be back when we visit Cambridge again.

It’s hard to fail at a restaurant owned by Cambs Cuisine and under their management. The restaurants are well kept, the staff are incredibly attentive and clearly hand selected from good families in and around Cambridge, and the food selections are well thought out. I regularly drink at the Three Horseshoes with a friend and we are always welcomed despite us only having 1 or 2 drinks and no food. So I didn’t hesitate to book a table for lunch with my partner on our way home from a quick shopping trip in the city. Despite a late lunch booking, the service didn’t fault, the food was fresh, cooked with care and service was good. The only negative was the atmosphere and the bar full of collected empties waiting to be washed but I’m really just clutching here… Thanks for a nice lunch.

I was advised this was a good place to go for lunch Lovely staff and no issues with them but the food!!! I asked for a pastrami sandwich Now I’m not looking for a New York style stuffed to the gunnels sandwich but I got ………… One slice of pastrami and not a thick juicy slice but a wafer thin one like you get in Tesco. Absolutely disgusting I did mention this to the barman but I wasn’t paying so didn’t labour it too much but come on I repeat one thin wafer thin slice

It was off to a great start from parking - it was busy but clearly an ample car park; no fighting to find a space! Lovely building and lots of interesting artwork on the walls. Clean throughout. Brilliant atmosphere. We didn't sit outside but it looked like a great area. Staff were all welcoming, friendly, prompt, and efficient. Great selection of dishes, specials and drinks, all of which was tasty. I'd thoroughly recommend The Three Horseshoes.

We collected our take away package on Christmas Eve, followed the clearly explained instructions and had a very tasty Christmas lunch. Better than cooking by numbers. Delightfully thought through with the full works from starters to the cheese course. The wine was good as well! This could become our default option in years to come. Would appreciate a fish option of some sort next time.

We had a lovely meal. I'm a coeliac, but their gluten free menu has almost everything the normal menu has.We had Tandoori Monkfish Tail with bombay potatoes, coconut curry sauce, pak choi and sesame rice cracker. Delicious. That was gluten free anyway, so required no changes. Then I succumbed to a Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce, vanilla ice cream. Again, that was gluten free anyway and the portion was huge. I needed help to finish it.All the servers wore masks, but otherwise it was as normal as a restaurant can be in these strange times.

Good French wine list with the addition of Chapel Down sparkling wine a bonus though the Addams cider was pretty special too! My partner and I met a friend for food and drinks on a Saturday afternoon. We were promptly served by very friendly staff and took our drink orders straight away. I had a wonderful bloody mary and the fellas had some beers. We had olives and cauliflower fritters for a starter, both were excellent. I had a delicious vegetarian mezze board and my partner had the slow cooked venison. The venison dish was a very hearty size and cooked to absolute perfection...moist, tender, and full of flavor! We had previously had an unfortunate experience with take out but this more than made up for it! On top of that after coming back previously we were given a complimentary drink, a gesture we very much appreciated. We look forward to coming back soon!

We had been recommended this restaurant by the hotel we were staying at. The location is great and would be very picturesque in the summer time when the nights are longer.Great menu- had the venison which was delicious along with root vegetables- although didn’t really need them as portions are well sized - but the twist of toasted cumin seeds and fennel meant that we devoured them. No room for a sweet so next time would sacrifice the starter. House white lovely and dry and they stock Chapel Down - what more could you want.Very reasonably priced for good quality food.

Our second visit here en famille with dog. My previous review last year was generally positive but not effusive. This time, we sat in the bar area to accommodate the pup, and the whole thing was very good. Super-friendly and efficient service. The food was all very satisfactory; I had a selection of sausages, served with buttery chive mash, cabbage and onion gravy (there’s a choice of sausages, mashes (?), and gravies). The bangers were delicious - among the best I can remember - so I would highly recommend. Indeed, all of our chosen dishes were well-received. Decent value too, having the 3-course lunch menu at £22. I enjoyed the overall experience, the location is beautiful and the food was very nice. I'm not fussy with service so I won't complain, but we did have to wait a fair time between being served. What ruined the experience was to find a 10% tip automatically added to the bill, and a £1 donation to a charity nobody told us about. I understand these are "discretionary" and can be removed if requested, but this trend of adding an automatic tip relies on people not wanting to handle the awkward situation if asking for it to be removed and looking like a bad person. A tip should be an optional extra that a customer can decide to leave to show their appreciation for staff who go above and beyond. An automatic tip not only removes this option, but pressurised tips out of customers who may not have felt it was warranted.Stop adding automatic tips. Especially for small groups/couples. Pay your staff for their service, we'll pay for the food.

I decided to try a takeaway meal from the recently reopened Three Horseshoes and was left thoroughly disappointed. We arrived at the designated collection time and were told the food would be brought out to us. Waited outside the restaurant for 15 mins before going back inside to check on the order - found it sitting unattended on the bar. The barman said he "thought it was our food" but seemed unsure. We live less than 1 minute from the restaurant, but by the time we arrived home the food was cold and needed to be reheated! The ice cream for the sticky toffee pudding had been inexplicably replaced with double cream. I returned to the bar and was told that they don't do ice cream with takeaway orders. The barman also assured me that the food had been delayed because it was still being cooked when we originally arrived. This was patently untrue since the food was cold. I ordered the beef burger, which was overly salted and served on a hard unappetising bun, with cold soggy fries on the side. My partner had the jerk tofu skewer, which was satisfactory but cold. Dessert included, the total cost was £35, which I feel is exorbitant since half of the meal ended up in the bin. As a local resident I wanted to do my part to support their business. However, after this experience I won't be in a hurry to go back any time soon.

Very quiet lunchtime, good service but food was disappointing. Had read lots of positive reviews, and decided to choose this restaurant as a half way meeting point, for meeting up with relatives. We both travelled an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the restaurant and were all looking forward to it. Sat in the bar area. It was cold. Log burner was lit but just sat and smouldered for the two hours we were there. It was a cold and miserable day so a cosy feel would have made it a warmer welcome. The restaurant says it offers a good vegetarian selection but we found it poor. The caramelised onion, spinach and mushroom tart was awful. The pastry wasn’t cooked on the bottom and everything on the tart looked overcooked. Half the plate was covered in potatoes, there was a small spinach and radish salad and a few peas. Very unappetising. There was gnocchi on the menu and a salad with tofu or halloumi. Not a great choice. Other diners had roast beef salad, fennel seed crusted pork tenderloin and king prawn linguine which everyone enjoyed. Desserts were disappointing too. Lots to choose from. Tapioca was served cold, poached peach wasn’t poached for long enough and the sticky toffee pudding was heavy and dry. Maybe my expectations were too high. Vegetarians rarely have a lot of choice on menus, but if the meal is cooked well it makes up for it. Won’t be choosing this restaurant for our next get together.

Upon arrival we were seated by the friendly staff on a large table in the corner of the bar, perfect for our group size. The older children spotted some board games in the corner and settled on connect four to keep them amused. This gave us the time to select from the drinks and food menu in peace. The food itself was excellent when it arrived, with a great choice for the children, particularly the children’s roast dinner. Bright winter’s day with a festive feel lent an agreeable tinge to our lunch visit. Felt well-organised, although (smiley) service was a little slow (1h 45m for a regular 3-course service). Dishes generally viewed as “very nice” rather than yum. My venison special had evidently been under the hot lamp for a while, as the meat was a bit over and sauce dried to the plate, but nonetheless the butteriness of the veg survived. (Not sure why not taking the tops off carrots is considered gastronomic). Typically punchy gastropub pricing at £34/head with one alcoholic drink. But overall a decent effort and I would probably visit again.....just.

Perfect evening. We live nearby and came here after reading the reviews. We were 6 and had a wide variety of dishes. Sizes a bit on the small side - but my were they delicious. And the best part - room for outstanding desert. Pub has a cozy feel in the bar area, there is also a nice restaurant area that fits quite a few people. Will be back.

Had the Boxing Day menu table was booked for 1pm with per orderd food at £40 per head !! we hadn’t even got our coats off and the starters were on the table.. I had to go and see the manager to put the brakes on. We finished the starters and didn’t even have our drinks on the table. I know I asked for a delay in having the mains but asking after an hour are they coming out. I had the beef 2 hard carrots fresh hard parsnip cubes 2 slices of beef 3 hard potatoes dribble of gravy we asked for some more but this never turned up... the table look like something from joes cafe.. we paid £464 for 9 people quite frankly it was a rip off .. service and food shocking.. sorry if you can’t do it , don’t do it next time stay shut on Boxing Day..

I always think that the real test of any restaurant is whether the standards can be maintained when the chips are down and it is really busy. They certainly were on Wednesday at T3H.

The restaurant is about 3 miles from Cambridge and close to the American Cemetery, in the small village of Madingley. The pub has a proper old-fashioned bar and then the restaurant, which is spacious and airy. We went for dinner in December, so the very dim lighting made reading the menu difficult, but the friendly waitress was clearly used to this and gave us a small portable light to use for the evening.

Just enjoyed a delicious dinner at this cosy country pub (even brought our dog too!). We sat in the bar area next to the fire & it felt really homely & welcoming. I’ve eaten here before & nearly always choose a fish dish as it never disappoints. I chose the hake fillet this time & it was a good choice. Served on a bed of crushed new potatoes with broccoli stems on the side. Yum! I saved room for dessert as I saw they had a gooseberry Eve’s pudding on the Specials board & that’s one of my faves. It was just delish! So nice to go to a genuine village pub, serving home cooked meals all day. A nice way to end a lazy Sunday. A really lovely evening as always, so I will definitely be back soon.

I picked this restaurant for a 2nd date! ... the atmosphere, staff, service and food was excellent... lovely wine and coffee... We both enjoyed the evening and we were one of the last to leave.. I would strongly recommend this restaurant... a bit pricey, however, the gentleman paid for both of us... just to let you know... there wasn’t a 3rd date! ... it’s complicated! ...

Been here before for various family get together, and today went for mother in-laws 90th birthday meal. The ambience was, as usual quite good, and the service was good. We were a party of 12. The starter I had, chicken terrine, was quite nice and presented well. My main, good old roast beef Sunday dinner would have been much nicer I imagine if it had been warmer , and I found the bee quite tough. My husband had beef ravioli which again was luke warm. Cost wise on the expensive side, £550 for the 11 of us( the baby had her own food brought in). That was including some wine and alcoholic drinks though of the 10 adults 5 were driving and so stuck to soft drinks. The birthday girl seemed to enjoy herself which was the main thing but not sure I would drive thee again from Lincolnshire for Sunday lunch

We had a light meal in the bar area. We just had starters and sides. Quite nice. We felt that mains were a little pricy. The service was quick and friendly.

We were a group of four adults with a table booked for 115pm. We arrived on time and were given a table at the end of the bar - convenient but noisy. The a la carte menu is extensive and interesting. We each had a starter plus main (total cost £107.50) and we shared a bottle of west Australian chardonnay (£27.00). Including the automatic, but "discretionary" 10% service charge made our total bill £147.95. The food was all tasty and the portions were generous. With hindsight, I should have ordered only two starters because I could not finish my main (stuffed guinea fowl). The serving staff were friendly and efficient. Obviously, a popular place because it was very busy while we were there.

We have been here before and it has always been good. Busy but efficient and the food was excellent. Squid as a starter which was fresh and very soft to eat. The roasts, which I can’t avoid on a Sunday we’re really well cooked with flavoured gravy that was so moorish. A range of vegetables that were crisp with firm roast potatoes. Others had fish which was equally well received. A wide choice of wines and good value for money. Staff made it all good. Very friendly and efficient despite a busy lunchtime.

Had a lovely relaxed meal here on a cold wet Saturday night in November. The welcome was warm and genuine from all the staff. We had booked the restaurant but were offered the opportunity to stay and be served by the log fire if we wanted. We went through tho as it was just as cosy in there. The menu is not vast but ample choice plus specials are available. Tenderloin pork was melt in the mouth. Good choice of wines. Shared a sticky toffee pudding with my other half...wish I'd had room for a whole one as it was so light and delicious! All in all, a very satisfying evening. would definitely recommend and return! Thank you

We came to celebrate our son's birthday. We were made to feel welcome and the staff were friendly. The food was very well presented and absolutely delicious. One had the haggis fritters and one had the game terrine for starters. For our main courses, two had the beef pie, two had the guinea fowl and one had the risotto. The three men were able to manage puddings too! Everyone enjoyed their dinners very much. Our son was made to feel special as his sticky toffee pudding came with a candle and Happy Birthday iced on the plate. An excellent evening, thank you!

Went here as a group of 15 (10 adults and 5 babies aged between 4 and 6 months), we had booked in advance and they had arranged it so we had a large area in the bar section away from other people with all the extra room needed for prams/sitting to feed etc. They had been incredibly helpful in regards to allergies, going as far as changing cooking oils and offering to source a different ice cream in order to accommodate an allergy need. It made me feel very well catered for and gave me options which normally I would not be able to have.

Nice Pub lunch with a large menu. They pride themselves on fish and I tried their signature crusted Hake. This was tasty but very small at £18.50. No interest when I mentioned this.

I was very taken with the smoked haddock and linguine starter which was unusual and extremely tasty. For my main, I chose fish of the day (which was stone bass) beautifully cooked and presented, which came on a bed of crisp, roasted baby potatoes and accompanied by broccoli. It was nice to be able to order a 500cl carafe of wine from the wine list and not be limited to a house wine. The service was excellent and we had an enjoyable evening. The menu is quite extensive but a little fancy. J's preferred choices came with either mustard mash or red wine jus, neither of which are family favourites. We are old fashioned and love a nice creamed potato and prefer a simple gravy but that's us! Nevertheless we managed to find a selection of starters to make up a first and second course and had an enjoyable meal. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert which was a pity as there looked to be some nice dishes on offer.

Hadn’t eaten here for quite a while and was very pleasantly surprised by the delicious food. I had an amazing fish dish which was very fresh and tasty and a poached pear for pudding which was done perfectly. Well worth a visit. The bar area is particularly welcoming with an open fire and friendly bar staff

The Three Horseshoes is always a sure bet when planning a celebration meal, and this was no exception. Sunday lunch was excellent as were the entrée (a soft-boiled scotch duck egg in my case) and the desert (I’m a sucker for sticky toffee pudding and this did not disappoint!). Full marks for friendly service and delicious food. Can’t recommend this place more highly!
