Shilpa in South Cambridgeshire

Got home no garlic nan bread .. ruined our family meal .. as we had ordered light as it was .. avoid

Set on the corner of a roundabout at the entrance to Papworth Village near Cambridge, this family run restaurant is a delight and a find. The meal - I had the Kala Cashew Nut curry with Kashmir (almond, coconut and sultana) rice with melt in the mouth onion bhajis - was cooked to perfection and the flavours delightful and aromatic. I love Indian food and this is the best I've tasted in a long time. Set in a former pub, the surroundings are also delightful and the team polite and attentive. My compliments to the chef and kitchen team. Thank you Shilpa.

Very quick and convenient take away. Unfortunately the food was not as good as we are used to from here about 2 years ago. The chicken tikka massala used to be a deep red and full of flavour but it was pale orange and very mild like korma. The balti was very tangy and fruity not at all how it used to be. The chicken tikka was a bit dry but still flavoursome. The naan breads and lamb biryani were very good. The rice was white with a few bits of spice but not your usual pilau that you pay a high price for. All in all feel we spent a high price for a sub standard meal.

Best authentic Indian restaurant we have found. Excellent range of dishes cooked and presented to perfection. Staff always very attentive, helpful and discreet.

I’ve eaten Indian food all over the uk! This is up there in my top 5. Quality. Presentation. Taste. The onion barges are the best I’ve ever had! Thanks Shilpa!

Having not been here for about 7 years, we were concerned things may have changed. They haven't! A warm welcome, spotless table setting, delicious food and extremely attentive staff. Not many other diners which we liked but could be said 'lacks atmosphere '. That said, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Will return in future.

Unfortunately, food I ordered was bland. No spice in any of the dishes. Small portion sizes too. Onon Bhaji was nice but small. Nice staff

Lovely food, very quiet when we went, mid week, we stumbled on this restaurant on our way home from visiting family! It's quite expensive for the portion size that you get, but we enjoyed it!

We had a family meal here on Saturday night and despite them being very busy, it was a great night. The food was excellent, staff friendly and atmosphere great. Would highly recommend and will we most certainly be going back.

We have been loyal customers of the Shilpa for the past fifteen years, ever since we moved to the village. We firmly believe in supporting local businesses, and with very few exceptions our experience has always been very good. However, approximately five weeks ago, we ordered a take away and when we brought it home and lifted the lid of the dhal, the air in our kitchen filled with the putrid smell of fish, so much so that my husband asked who had ordered fish! I then made the mistake of tasting the dhal - it was truly disgusting and tasted just how it smelled - of rotting fish. I have no idea why it should smell/taste like that but it made us all feel pretty sick and not wanting to eat the rest of the meal. I called the Shilpa and spoke to a very helpful gentleman who was very apologetic and took my name and told me that he would give us a 50% discount on our next meal. When I called yesterday, I had the misfortune to speak to an extremely disagreeable man, who, when I explained what had happened previously, continuously interupted me and told me that he would not give me 50% discount and that he would only refund the cost of the Dahl. I asked to speak with the manager and he would not allow me to - he kept arguing and made me feel like I was a criminal. He really upset me and told me that there was no manager there. He kept on asking me what I wanted to order, but to be honest, by this stage I would not have even considering ordering a meal from him. As soon as I had put the phone down, I received a call from the man that I had spoken to on the original night that we had had the "fishy dhal" - he was very apologetic about the behaviour of the man that I had just spoken to and stated that he remembered me and that he would apply the 50% discount to our meal. To be honest, I was so shocked and upset by the actions of his colleague that my family have vowed never to return to this restaurant. We instead went to the Lalbagh at Bourne - super meal and super polite staff. Shilpa - your horrible member of staff has lost you four very loyal customers of 15 years.

Best Indian we have ever had. We travel especially to Shilpa from Norwich simply because the food is so so good. Back again this Friday. We shall keep coming back.

Not much taste to the biryani. And we were not even offered the desert menus.

We visited Shilpa to celebrate a family Birthday. Service was great and the food was superb. The decor of the restaurant was well designed and the background music was pleasant. I would highly recommend the Red Chilli Chicken, it was just the right amount heat. We will definitely return to sample the rest of the menu as well.

Lovely welcome, amazing food and great service. A must for curry lovers who fancy something slightly different. All the traditional options are available but this was probably the best Indian we have been to in a long time.

Disappointed. My first time ordering takeaway from Shilpa and I have never had this type of Indian food. I believe the food was tweaked to be bland. I don’t think the food should be changed to meet the demographic preferences of the area. If I was in India they would not make the food different if they were serving to a non Indian person. They make the food the same spice and taste for everyone. I never asked for bland or non spicy so I believe the food should be prepared traditionally. As an Indian person who has gone to India many times I can say this food was appalling. The roti was stale, tasted like shop brought or a day old. Rice was bland. And the curry… I ordered the butter chicken and all I can say is I have never seen butter chicken like this in my life. It was bland, the meat was not marinated. The colour is usually a bright dark orange and taste is usually creamy and rich in spices. This was far from the traditional butter chicken. All the food was cold too. I ordered a starter of tandoori meat, butter chicken, garlic rice, 2 chapati and 1 Nan. This cost £35. Very poor value for money and will not be eating from here again.

I've been here a few times and always been very impressed with the food and the service. Some of the best curry I've ever eaten. Great flavour and everything is cooked beautifully. The lamb is always especially tender and delicious.

As is with everything, the prices have gone up since our last visit, but the food and service is still fantastic.

Went here for a recent birthday, with 2 other friends and was most charmed. From the moment we arrived, sat down, ate and drank, the whole experience was just excellent. We were even blessed with complimentary drinks at the end of our meal, courtesy of the delightful manager. Would we come again? Absolutely 💯

One of the best Indian meals we’ve had in the UK. 5* Food, lovely staff, lovely decor and really happy to have found this place on the way back from St Ives. Will definitely stop here again in the future and recommend anyone else to stop by too. Free parking on site, easy access and very clean. All food high quality and very reasonably priced also.

Beautiful food! Always fresh and delicious. Great service too! Be mindful, we were offered poppadoms to start with (fully expecting that we'd be charged for them of course) - didn't realise it would be £9 for 6 poppadoms and an additional £4.50 for the chutneys which weren't mentioned, just arrived. So quite expensive! But the food really is out of this world and all the staff are great.

Been eating here for 4 years and always a great meal. Great service and always consistent through the years. Nice simple menu with all the usuals. Always go for the specialty dishes.

Our first visit today and unless a new chef is hired, also the last. We got a takeaway. Ordered online which was easy, so was the pickup. The restaurant has a very pleasant and clean feel and the person who gave us our order was friendly and courteous. The food was well packed and ready when the website said it would be. Sadly, that is where the positives end. The food was by far the worst Indian food we ever had. We ordered: South Bengal Fish Curry House Paneer Vegetable Massala Vegetable Passanda All 4 dishes were bland, lacked any spices and what they lacked in spice, tried making up with sugar. All 4 bland and sickly sweet, to the point one couldn’t tell them apart. 3 of us ate it, all agreed that this was the worst Indian food either ever had. It is a pity, I was so hopeful.

Unbelievable. As succinctly put by one of my fellow diners this is a "restaurant that serves Indian food, not an Indian restaurant". The restaurant, customer service and food are of such a high standard you'd be hard pressed to find a better Indian anywhere. As a self confessed Indian aficionado I can confidently say that there is no better Indian in Cambridgeshire or Bedfordshire, I should know, I've tried them all.

High quality, fresh-tasting food. The Bengal prawn dish was really succulent but all the dishes were most enjoyable. Strongly recommended.

I rang pre-booking letting them know for eight people on a birthday with two kids requesting two highchairs when we got to the door they told us no kids allowed after six after checking their policy it was clearly lies very rude staff at the door don’t recommend for family meal

Food and service were exceptional but the prices have gone up and are pretty extortionate now. Really like this reaturant and have used it a lot for the best local indian cuisine, but the prices being what they are now simply mean I will very rarely want to eat there again.

Yet another little gem of a Indian restaurant/takeaway. I ordered a chicken patia with onion and garlic rice. Onion bhaji and a keema nan and I have to say the taste and quality of the food was outstanding its well worth a visit...
